Support Night Clerk Radio on Patreon It's time for our monthly new music episode! What month do you ask? We're not saying! We definitely didn't call the July episode “August New Music.” Stop asking. Anyway, in this episode, we're exploring the duality of man as expressed through music. First up, we have a beautiful ambient album from Bon Odori that moves seamlessly between bliss and despair. We then blast off to the optimism of the 80s with some masterful vaporwave/future funk from Late Arcane. Grab a copy of these albums and join us! It's happening! After close to three years, we're finally talking about maybe our collective favorite movie ever: 1980's Caddyshack! No movie has been more quoted, more watched, and more important to bringing us together with our friends than Caddyshack. In this episode, we talk all about what makes it great in our opinion. One of the reasons Caddyshack is so wonderful is the performance of Bill Murray. While Ted Knight (Judge Smails), Rodney Dangerfield (Al Czervik), and Chevy Chase (Ty Webb) are also at the top of their game, Murray's Carl Spackler stands out as much as anyone else. We cap the episode off by drafting our favorite Bill Murray movies and other credits. If there is one thing we love at PCY more than nostalgia, it might be trivia. The arrival of Trivial Pursuit in the 80s took the board game world by storm. At least that's how we remembered it. We talk about our first memories of the game (Spiro Agnew) and even pit Brad against Giff in a quick trivia match. After the exciting mano a mano, we finish the episode by drafting our favorite board games. Do you like Scattergories, Pictionary, Monopoly, Sorry? A beloved feel-good comedy no one expected to see again is back after three years, this time swapping the men's pitch for a women's team. Same warmth, same UK humour, same wholesome heart that made it a lockdown obsession, and stars you fell for returning. Then, reality TV's most chaotic new fixation has one very charming (very red-flag) leading man, 20 women, a 30-day countdown to a proposal, and a Call Her Daddy mogul pulling the strings behind the scenes. Need I say more?Plus if you refer something with a pulse of dread? There's a stylish, deeply creepy 80s-set teen thriller with a supermodel lead, a Hollywood serial killer, and all the sex, drugs and cigarettes the decade promised. "A lot of production companies who decide to do stories about people of color are not used to having the people of color they hire coming in with an opinion. Coming in contradicting them on certain things." — Neema BarnetteREWIND EPISODE: Happy Summer! We made it to August. This is our last rerun episode of the summer. In a few weeks we'll be bringing you brand new episodes! We loved rewatching A Different World and learning about the show from our incredible guests. We think this interview with legendary producer and director Neema Barnette is so powerful and timely. We hope you enjoy it, too!Sharon and Susan welcome legendary producer-director Neema Barnette to talk about her incredible journey from Harlem to Hollywood. Ms. Barnette made television history in 1986 when she became the first African American woman to direct a prime-time sitcom (What's Happening Now?). She followed this historic milestone with episodes of Frank's Place, It's A Living, and The Cosby Show before directing seven iconic episodes of A Different World. With over 50 film and TV directing credits to her name, she was also the first African American woman to sign a three-picture deal with Sony Pictures.Neema also served as producer-director for Season 1 of Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey's Queen Sugar. In this episode, she shares stories of making the transition from New York theater to Hollywood sets, fighting for creative integrity, inspiring new generations with the truth, and applying actual "strategies for revolution" to transform the entertainment industry.

The Big Mates discuss studying, relaxing, chilling, and Post by Björk. Adam, Steve, and Lucas continue their exploration of the career of Björk and their track-by-track analysis of her second studio album. Sarah is back from the Windy City, and boy are her arms tired. Susie's whole body is tired because she had to lead a cat rescue operation. We discuss the Bang My Box documentary about Robin Byrd's New York cable access show in the 80s, and how she was a gay icon and advocate, but got spooked by the internet. We learn why Burning Man was in distress over Covid, why white people love the festival, and why we wish there was a Burning Man for nerds. We hear about a fella who cut off his member and set his neighbor's house on fire. We learn why there are far more shellfish now than there used to be. And we get a shocking update about the mountain climber who left his girlfriend in the Alps to die of hypothermia, and what happened when he was tried for negligent murder.00:00 - Sarah's Windy City Adventures and Toy Story 5 Review06:26 - Susie's Wild Cat Rescue and Pet Parenthood14:56 - Exploring the Provocative 'Bang My Box' Documentary22:11 - Sarah's Glowing Review of OneSkin Skincare24:03 - Unpacking Burning Man's Allure and Controversies33:53 - Thanking Donors and Lottery Pool Last Call35:54 - Unbelievable Headline: Penis, Garage, and Fire39:17 - Octopus and Squid Now Classified as Shellfish43:19 - The Tragic Alpine Death and Climber's Trial01:01:50 - Supporting the Show and Joining the Candy Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:For up to 65% off your order, head to https://veracityhealth.co and use code BRAINCANDYGet 15% off OneSkin with the code BRAINCANDY at https://www.oneskin.co/BRAINCANDY #oneskinpodTDM-RESERVATION: 1. Matt and Eric journey into the seedy world of 52 Pick-Up, based on Elmore Leonard's novel. Roy Scheider plays the kind of role Michael Douglas would build his career on: a flawed husband caught up in dangerous games of life and death.
Ian Grant has spent years collecting all elements of the Gremlins films and now he's sharing it with everyone. The Gremlins Museum Collection is, for now, an on-line repository of his collection of scripts, photos, props and, oh yeah, actual Gremlins. And if that wasn't enough, Ian's work and dedication has led to the discovery of the legendary almost 3 hour long cut of the original Gremlins. For more information and to see the collection for yourself, check out their website.
What happens when three pop culture podcasts collide? A lot of laughs, plenty of friendly trash talk, and a serious test of music knowledge! This week, Giff joins Jim from the Children of the '80s podcast to square off against Mike and Brian from The 70s vs. the 80s podcast in an epic Name That Tune and Pop Culture Trivia Challenge comparing hits from 1977 to 1987. The Big Mates discuss chance, big band jazz, sampling, and Post by Björk. Adam, Steve, and Lucas continue their exploration of the career of Björk and their track-by-track analysis of her second studio album. They explore the composition, tone, lyrics, meaning, and context for each song in turn - all from three differing perspectives, from being deeply into music and analysis, to not caring for art or critique, and everything in between! They also look at how Björk collaborated on some lyrics, her wish to surprise listeners, and how she linked herself further to the Bristol trip-hop scene. What surprises lie in wait for us? Will Steve get into electronic music? Can a kestrel play hip-hop? The Angels are on the case of a missing man. Turns out he was dating a girl through an electronic dating service that wasn't all it is made out to be. The agency is a front for a thieving ring, but this time the stole something from someone they shouldn't. Make sure to stay for the skateboarding scene. It's totally rad!
Matt and Eric dig into a 1986 flick they knew only from Madonna's "Live to Tell" video: AT CLOSE RANGE - which stars Sean Penn as a young man who wants to bond with his criminal pop, played by Christopher Walken.
