School is back in session, and this week we're flunking out of reality with a double feature of academic anarchy: Classof 1984 (1982) and Class of 1999 (1990). Two movies, two decades apart, same message: high school is the worst.First up is Mark L. Lester's Class of 1984, starring Perry King, Timothy Van Patten, and a very young Michael J. Fox. It's a gritty tale of punks, classroom chaos, and teachers who have officially had enough. We're talking gang violence, courtroom drama, and a soundtrack by Alice Cooper that absolutely shreds. Then we crank the absurdity dial with Class of 1999, also directed by Lester, where robot teachers go full Terminator on the student body. Featuring Pam Grier, Stacy Keach rocking a mullet-rat-tail-combo, and Malcolm McDowell as the world's most exhausted principal. Basically, it's RoboCop meets after-school detention. The guy's debate whether a punk army with switchblades is scarier than Pam Grier's robot arm, if Michael J. Fox was already plotting Back to the Future during filming, and how Stacy Keach somehow looks both 40 and 400 years old at the same time.

We're back to time travel through rock history with another issue of the Decibel Geek Times. In this edition, we pay tribute to several rock legends on their deathdays, honoring the lasting impact of Dick Wagner, Jack Russell, Eric Wagner, Les Paul, Dave Williams, and Pete Way. We also celebrate a wide range of album anniversaries spanning 15 to 40 years. From Iron Maiden's The Final Frontier — the album that trolled fans into thinking it could be their last — to Dio's Sacred Heart, we revisit the stories, chart stats, and behind-the-scenes moments that made these records memorable. Highlights include Halford's triumphant Resurrection, Extreme's career-defining Pornograffitti, Mother Love Bone's bittersweet debut Apple, and many more milestones across the decades. On the new music front, there's plenty to be excited about. Alice Cooper returns with The Revenge of Alice Cooper, reuniting original band members and even featuring vintage guitar work from the late Glen Buxton. Honeymoon Suite drops Wake Me Up When the Sun Goes Down, Halestorm climbs to new heights with Everest, Ellefson Soto unleashes Unbreakable, and fresh releases from Chevelle and The Rods round out your next listens. It's all that and a whole lot more in this issue of the Decibel Geek Times. We hope you enjoy and SHARE with a friend. Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts Family. Contact Us! It's another two-for-one on Talkin' Rock! Up first, drumming legend, Mike Portnoy. He and Dream Theater are about to kick off their fall tour, with a stop at the Fox Theater on September 21st. We discussed his love for the Beatles, his relationship with Neil Peart, and the multiple bands he is a part of. He shared his thoughts on the passing of Ozzy and the only time he ever met the legend. Great to interview Mike for the first time after I'd met him a few times before. Next, it's Alice Cooper band bassist, Dennis Dunaway. The Revenge of Alice Cooper is out now. He told me they had a lot of material to choose from. So much they could've recorded many more albums. He shared some Detroit stories, a stage prop that didn't work as planned, and much more. Thanks for listening!

This week, Bushy and Metal Mike sit down to discuss the brand new album from the Alice Cooper Group: The Revenge of Alice Cooper! This is the first time the entire band has recorded an album together since "Muscle of Love" in 1973. Has it been worth the wait? Or is this just another sad cash grab by an aging legacy band. Do the songs hold up, or are they campy and ridiculous? We give our thoughts as we discuss the album track by track, giving our very own pathetically subjective opinions! Enjoy!

ALICE COOPER, the Godfather of Shock Rock returns! In this riff-soaked episode, Team Derringer welcomes lifelong Alice Cooper fangirl Kathy Derringer to trace the Godfather of Shock Rock from his Phoenix-area origins through his chart-smashing heyday. IN THIS EPISODE The Band's Wild Origin Story: From Phoenix high school act to the Earwigs, then Spiders, Nazz, and finally Alice Cooper. It's a name this is as deceptively innocent as the stage antics were outrageous. Classic Albums, Shock and Awe: Early psychedelic albums Pretties for You (1969) and Easy Action (1970). Paul Derringer labels these albums “shockingly bad” but crucial to the band's formation. (To disagree with Paul, send an email to feedback@derringerdiscoveries.com – ATTENTION: PAUL)

What's up, dudes? In memory of Ozzy, Duane Bailey from Tinsel Tunes and Matt Wheeler from Resurrection Metal Radio join me to talk 1988 Headbangers Christmas! Yes, it's Christmas Eve on MTV's Headbangers Ball, and Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde are hosting the festivities. We're introduced to a slew of ‘80s metal bands, but kicking off the festivities is Ozzy himself with “Crazy Babies!” Poison, Judas Priest, Winger, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and Guns N' Roses follow. Ozzy and Zakk have a great time introducing the videos. In fact, they even dress up in Santa hats. Ozzy even wears an odd mask and a pirate hook. Next up are videos from KISS, Hurricane, Alice Cooper, RATT, Aerosmith, and Cinderella. Ozzy suddenly appears in a picturesque Christmas fireside, but now inexplicably has on caveman feet and a club. Subsequently, videos from Lita Ford, Anthrax, Bad News (with the only Christmas song), Def Leppard, and Iron Maiden air. Finally, Hear N' Aid sang “Stars” and Headbangers Christmas concluded! Go get ‘em, boys!AC/DC singing “That's The Way I Wanna Rock 'N' Roll?” Yep. Yngwie Malmsteen performing “You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget?” Uh huh. Sam Kinison? Sam Kinison?!?! The massive success of the "Back To The Beginning" fest got us thinking. There are a number of other legendary artists in the twilight of their careers and are deserved of this kind of tribute treatment. We immediately thought of the Master of Shock Rock - Alice Cooper. Like Ozzy, Alice really took off in the early 70s and is one of the most influencial artists ever. So this week we fantasy promote our own Alice Cooper tribute fests. Which artist, their setlists, which Alice cover, etc. And of course Alice's own headline set. The ideas are endless. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss the "Fantastic Four: First Steps" flick and the whole coldplay thing. Musically, we crank new and used from Terror (HC) Ghoul, Entrails, Anvil Bitch, The Pist, Caustic Christ, The White Swan, Jaded Lady, H Bomb and we introduce Philly crust punkers Psych-War in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!

On this episode, Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys takes us behind the scenes of the band's 1989 hit “Scared,” a track born from fear, adrenaline, and a deep love for theatrical rock. Inspired by Alice Cooper and crafted in a quirky home studio setting, “Scared” blends personal storytelling with pounding percussion and a structure that wastes no time getting to the hook. Jason shares how the lyrics were shaped by real-life anxieties, how spontaneous moments and misheard lines sometimes added unexpected charm, and how collaboration played a key role in bringing the song to life. Along the way, he and Chris reflect on the nostalgic glory of late '80s rock, the emotional weight that music can carry, and what keeps the creative fire burning decades later. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with Gary Graff, editor of "501 ESSENTIAL ALBUMS OF THE '80s: The Music Fan's Definitive Guide"! In this conversation, we talk about some of the major musical trends of the ‘80s and how Gary felt about them in his early days as a music journalist. And since we had both recently seen Devo on their current tour, Gary shares his review of that show. From there, we dive in on some Classic Rock selections that he wrote the reviews for, specifically albums from Genesis, Steve Winwood, Toto, Night Ranger, Alice Cooper, among others. We also discuss why so many ‘60s artists had comebacks in the ‘80s, and of course I had to ask him about what Bob Seger was up to in that era.
