In this episode we sit down with a long time family friend Farrah Bledsoe and talk about how life will offer you the chance to build a story of resilience. During our chat Andretta and Farrah share how continuous loss of family members, businesses and more forced Farrah to truly get in touch with her competitive side and grow out of the shell that others designed for her as she was growing up. While known to be the pretty one that always has it together - Farrah shares that her gifts of having a business mind, competitive spirit  and keen sense of opportunity have always been the core of her foundation. We dive deep into the power of knowing your story and how your story shows up in the way that you decide to live your life. We break down the power of resilience and the necessary mindset needed to push through everything life throws your way.5 Ways to Build Resilience It's common for people to credit their success to confidence instead of resilience. Resilience is one of the most overlooked character building attributes a person can have.  But not many people are able to explain how building one's confidence is often based on how they  utilize resilience. It's tricky, because life often throws different things at us, but overall we grow from the choices and accomplishments that feed our passion and make us feel proud of who we are. Discovering these fundamental things can be one of the most worthwhile pursuits of your life. Here are 5 ways you can begin building your resilience today and bounce back from tough times:1. Get Things Done  Resilience is built on accomplishment. If you achieve small and big goals, you're going to feel much better about yourself after facing a hard time in life. Those day-to-day goals are what you need to accomplish things today, tomorrow, next week or three years from now to help meet your goal and heal from trauma.2. Monitor Your ProgressTry to quantify your accomplishments: write down how you're able to show up for yourself in hard times. If you're able to exercise daily or be more mindful of the things you eat- write that stuff down. It is important to see how the small things can turn into big things while building up your strength at the same time.  Doing so  will help you stay on course, and you will build resilience as you see the progress you're making in real time.3. Exercise   Besides benefiting your health in general, exercising helps memory retention, improves focus, helps manage stress and prevents depression. It's harder to be anxious when there is no excess energy to draw upon, and outside of being difficult and uncomfortable at times, exercise improves every aspect of your life.4. Think Long-term The foundation of unhappiness is a decision made for short-term comfort that impedes long-term goals. You have to decide if your short-term comfort is more important than your long-term goals, but know that long-term goals will bring you far more happiness in the long run than your short-term comfort. This is the fundamental element of resilience. The ability to have vision beyond where you are now and realizing where you need to be in order to truly prosper. 5. Do More Of What Makes You Happy What do you love to do in your spare time? Whatever it is that you love, create space for it, because life is short- you need time to enrich your life and to recharge to be your best self. Living in the present is the best gift you can give yourself along with permission to enjoy your life. Time is precious- no matter how much life throws at you, your ability to take it, grow from it and move on better because of it will help you build a testimony that can change the world.

Jumping rope for most may seem like a child's activity but for a Chicagoland woman it was the unifying element of a life changing purpose realized. Brown Women Wellness founders Andretta and Aaqila sit down for an enlightening discussion with 40+ Double Dutch Club founder Pamela Robinson to talk about all things health and wellness for brown babes around the globe.During this podcast, the strength of unity and organization rings deep within the realms of the mental fortitude needed to embrace what it is that you love in order to give your body what it needs to be strong. The women break down the perks of working out without it feeling like a chore and the added benefit of sisterhood being sprinkled on top of it. While reminiscing on the last opportunity they had for such a refreshing activity- the women recalled in shock, highlighting their early teens. While dealing with transitioning to an empty nester and challenges within her marriage, Pamela saw the Double Dutch club as something all her own that gave her mental peace and support. A random jump rope in the trunk of her car led to a national movement encompassing over 12 thousand women. Her goal to provide a safe haven for physical exercise, connection and accountability has assisted in redefining what age appropriate past times are. She saw a chance to create a space and opportunity to work out that made being healthy a priority. Pamela sees the 40+ Double Dutch Club as a way to support and galvanize minority communities under the umbrella of physical activity worldwide. Double Dutch isn't for kids any more; it is for anyone that wants a full body workout that assists with keeping your mind and social skills strong as well. Make sure you enjoy some of our amazing tea before, during and after your double dutch work out. And my story is a testament to this.I started in the fitness industry when I was only 18 years old, and I knew that it was where I belonged.  I had always been into fitness and enjoyed being active throughout  my whole childhood. I was involved in Martial Arts, Wrestling and Football throughout high school and was generally a very physical person.I have been in the field for 26+ years and plan to stay here for many more.  While I always enjoyed my work and was successful with it, I was not as passionate then as I am now.  The passion didn't come until much later.  The passion came through the most painful loss I have ever experienced…the death of my mother. It was my mother's life: her sacrifices, support and guidance that made me the man I am today.  It was her death that birthed a passion in me.  After I lost my mother, I had a renewed sense of purpose; I vowed that I would make her proud.  It was during this painful season that I realized that I was put here to help others, to guide others to be their best selves, and to continue striving to be my best too.My parents were always an anchor for me.  They raised my siblings and I to be the best we could be, instilling  a deep faith and the principles of Respect, Love and Discipline; principles that I apply to everything I do even to this day.  After my mother's death, my father became a beacon for me.  He demonstrated a great strength even through great tragedy.  He inspires me to push through the pain and grow stronger through difficult situations.Since then, I redefined my purpose.  I became more passionate about helping others to reach their goals, but even more I longed to help them evolve into their best selves.  I work with clients to help them move forward towards their future instead of dwelling on the past.  One of my favorite analogies of this evolution is when a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.  After the butterfly emerges from the cocoon, he never goes back to being a caterpillar.  Once you start living as your true self and growing into your best self, you don't go back to who you used to be.Since this awakening, my path has led me towards many great career opportunities.  I have worked as a Spartan SGX trainer and had the incredible honor of giving motivational speeches at Spartan and Battlefrog events along with at the OCR World Championships.   I have spoken to groups of first responders and to youth at schools.  When I speak, I do not write a script, I speak from the heart and in the moment.  My hope with each motivational speech is that I connect to the hearts of the audience, that they will be able to feel my energy and passion and that it will ignite something inside of them too!  I view every speaking opportunity as an honor and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. As far as training goes, I have developed my own unique style that represents who I am as a fitness coach.  I have built the foundation for my training on my years of experience with various approaches.  My training sessions are all about functional movement, but I am constantly changing things up to keep my clients interested and challenged.  This style is not for everyone, but those who want to be pushed and who want to become mentally tough as well as physically strong love my combination of movements and motivation.Ultimately it has been the painful situations in my life that have grown me the most.  It is because of my loss and my struggles that I have become who I am today.Who am I?I am confident.I am humble.I am hungry.I am eager.I am ambitious.I am hard-working.I am willing to do what it takes.I am Coach Pain.MY EXPERIENCEI have over 26 years of experience in the fitness industry and as a motivational speaker. Some of my professional accomplishments include: Motivational Speaker Fitness Coach Nutrition Specialist NPC 2011 Midwest Ironman Physique American Ninja Warrior Participant – 2011, 2012 Jeet Kune Do & Wrestling Background (12 years) Naval Special Warface Orientation Course Instructor Announcer and Motivational Speaker For Spartan Race and BattleFrong Series

Brown Women Wellness founders Andretta and Aaquila sit down for an enlightening discussion with 40+ Double Dutch Club founder Pamela Robinson to talk about all things health and wellness for brown babes around the globe.During this podcast, the strength of unity and organization rings deep within the realms of the mental fortitude needed to embrace what it is that you love in order to give your body what it needs to be strong. Klipper adds the two artists are “zany, and maybe most of all very perplexing.” The exhibition runs through Aug. 15. Lanesboro actress Lizzy Andretta is looking forward to attending the Rhythms on the Root concert series this summer, held outdoors in Lanesboro's Gateway Park. Next up in the monthly series is blues guitarist PK Mayo, who is originally from the Iron Range. The concert is Friday at 6 p.m. The series wraps up Sept. 10 with Iowan folk singer Pieta Brown. “It's just very exciting to get people out in any way they can to experience the arts,” said Andretta. Tickets are required for this outdoor event, and seating is first come, first served, in socially distanced pods. Katie Drahos of the band Butter Boys had a shout-out to a fellow Minneapolis band, Serious Machine. “They have such a great, ethereal sound,” Drahos said.

Even though retailers may be struggling through the coronavirus pandemic, few of their customers are defaulting on their credit card bills. As the crisis unfolded, Alliance Data Systems Corp. managers looked back to the 2008 recession for credit management models to follow and what to avoid, CEO Ralph Andretta said. "During the Great Recession, I'm not sure Alliance Data had a deep enough bench when it came to the forbearance programs they offered customers," he said. "That has changed." The company has offered some credit forbearance, such as offering plans to skip a payment, but few shoppers are taking up the most extreme 12-month program. “What we've also seen is people are paying not just their minimum due, but a bit better than their minimum due on their cards,” Andretta said. “They're keeping up with their bills; they're spending and they're paying. That's that that's exactly the type of loyalty you want.” Andretta started in February, joining a growing list of Central Ohio leaders who took the helm right before or in the midst of the pandemic. The latest episode of our Crisis Management podcast series represents his first interview with Columbus Business First since taking the job. The Columbus company branded credit cards for retailers, such as fashion, beauty and home improvement stores; and a division in Texas operates loyalty programs like airline miles. Andretta is optimistic about the future of retail and the shopping mall – maybe they'll be more showroom than point of purchase, but physical gathering places will eventually return, he said. We discuss how the company can emerge stronger due to renewed focus and reduced expenses, both temporary and ongoing, as well as how Andretta landed the job and what it was like to be "battle tested" right after taking the reins. Andretta previously was managing director of the U.S. credit cards business at competitor Citigroup Inc. He was named last November to succeed Melissa Miller, who had moved the HQ to Columbus from Plano, Texas.
