ILM Immersive & Marvel Studios is releasing What If...?: An Immersive Story exclusively on Apple Vision Pro tomorrow, and I had a chance to take an early look and speak with producer and executive producer Shereif Fattouh as well as technical art director Indira Guerrieri about the process of creating this experience. It's mostly an immersive story with light interactions, but you can't actually die and so it's more about immersing yourself into these worlds with first-person embodiment and exploring around 10 different gesture-based interactions in nearly 50 different interactive moments across the 40 to 45-minute experience. There's also some disembodied moments where you're watching 3D movie cinematics on shards of glass floating in the environment, and so they're also really leaning into how good 3D movies look on the Apple Vision Pro within this experience. Overall, it's blending lots of elements together that feels like something new and a new genre of immersive storytelling that's building upon existing IP, and giving new opportunities to engage with these character's stories as well as their worlds. This is also the first Unreal Engine experience releasing on the Apple Vision Pro store, and so Fattouh told me that ILM Immersive has been making private modifications to get things working. There are features like mixed reality passthrough that are not available yet in Unreal Engine 5.4 yet. Agile Lens' Alex Coulombe told me, "The Epic Games XR team is small so I would I err on the side of assuming no major Vision Pro updates coming soon from Epic. To have the current features working it still requires a source build of Unreal Engine 5.4 (the Epic Games Launcher doesn't work) and current features include fully immersive mode, hand tracking / gesture recognition, forward and deferred rendering." So hopefully we'll get more on this soon from Epic Games, but at least we know it's possible and we'll start to see more Unreal Engine experiences on the Apple Vision Pro soon. Be sure to check out the transcript below for more information, and also don't miss my episode featuring my talk on an Elemental Theory of Presence, Experiential Design, and Immersive Storytelling, as well as my previous 480+ episodes on the topic of immersive storytelling over the past decade including previous coverage on Cycles, Myth: A Frozen Tale, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, and a conversation with John Gaeta about ILMxLab's The Holo-Cinema from Sundance New Frontier 2016. A new track by DJ Habett from the album "Mental wedge structure" (2024-05-20). Tags: House, Ambient, Ladder, Hypnotic, Cinematics, Kicks, Deeper, Fortune, Sampler, Modal, Crush CC(by). Production notes: Days off are plenty of ideas uncaptured. Feels like sunday with a twist. Double checked the BPM higher. Easy.

In this episode, we interview Mr. Bryggman, a new member of the Nichols community this year. With a rich artistic history and a degree in Cinematics from Binghamton University, Bryggman's experiences led him to eventually pursue a career in visual arts and move to Buffalo, a city filled with art to explore. As we dive into Bryggman's story, we hear about his dual love for baseball and the arts and how he has balanced these two passions throughout his life, from high school in Westchester to working at Nichols as a coach and teacher, and so much more. Hosted by Sofia Suero and Tommy Maidment.

Don't mind this: SKmW1OYni0tWQd9S8iYc Episode 3 Show Notes: Opening: Tyrande and Shandris talking about the future of the Night Elves in a Bel'Ameth in-game cinematic. Welcome to episode: Welcome to January, to 2024, and to Episode 3 of Solo Queue! Starting in Bel'ameth to celebrate the drop of 10.2.5 and the opening of the new Night Elf capital city. Big news of the week is the arrival of 10.2.5. My first content update as a content creator. A fair amount of early online reactions seemed to be on the negative side, and I do not want to get drawn into that. I will look for the positives because I think there are positives in 10.2.5 and I think there are realistic limits to what we can expect from a .5 patch, from an MMORPG in terms of story, and from a development team that I do believe is trying to turn a very large ship towards a better future. In the show, we are going to talk about the big activities of 10.2.5: The arrival or return of two capitals for two Alliance races Some Azerothian Archives A little bit on the Follower dungeons My adventures in the Season of Discovery The news A video for advice on gearing as a solo player And my mostly positive thoughts on 10.2.5 overall, despite some of the negative feedback that may be out there. Some extra big thanks. Big thanks to the Thrall's Balls podcast for support of Solo Queue on their own show. Check out their recent episode #124 on Spotify, Apple, or your own podcast feed or say hello @Thrallsballspod on Twitter Thanks to my first two Patreon subscribers! Andrew and Righteous Bandy have taken the leap and are supporting the show with actual money! Some firm Patreon goals and rewards, including extra episodes, are coming. And, thanks to you! Yeah you. I see you listening and reading these show notes! I want to hear from you with feedback and suggestions. soloqueuewow on socials, at gmail, and even at the Patreon. I will be recording occasional interview episodes entitled "How Do You Solo?" I am going to be reaching out to players and content creators alike to hear how they play the game. There just might be another episode in your podcast feed before the February episode scheduled for the 21st. News and updates: 10.2.5 is out. Remember that dynamic flying is now available anywhere normal flying is offered in the Warcraft universe. That includes Outland, and the Outland Cup. The event ends on February 1st. 10.2.6 is on the PTR, as was reported in December, but it is fully-encrypted, so there has been no data-mining and still, no one knows that that mysterious black pirate flag hanging off the 2024 roadmap actually means. Visually, it sits between winter and spring, so possibly March? We will see. Looks like it may be followed shortly by The War Within Alpha. And season 4 looks to be spring, so likely April at the earliest. On the Classic side, the next phase of Season of Discovery arrives February 8. The level cap will rise to 40 and a fresh slate of runes will be waiting to be found. And the Gnomeregon raid will be the end-game content for level 40 characters. If you are of the PvP persuasion, Stranglethorn Vale will once again be the most dangerous place to take a casual walk in Azeroth! Side quests: On being bad at video games, SoD, and HC Self-found mode I am not very good at video games. Have played games for decades. Now I find myself still alone at a desk playing games, but there are potentially millions of other players running by and "watching". Not quite as alone as before. Because of not wanting to either actively compete or passively be judged, I work to play alone. In SoD, I am trying to be self-reliant by creating more characters that can help outfit and supply the first character. That becomes the game within the game. Self-Found mode is interesting to me. It is how I tend to play, although HSF takes away the support of alt characters. SF has my interest piqued. Popping in to a tavern or inn for a local drink: I don't think the Night Elves are big drinkers, but if you head to the Silver Feather, the inn at Bel'ameth, you can grab an Azure Leywine that refresh, but still leave you clear-headed to help get the city set up. Today I Learned: You can accept all of those pesky weekly quests from the Adventure Guide (Shift-J, second tab after Traveler's Log). Main topic: What do we want from these video games? Reviews of Bel'Ameth and Reclamation of Gilneas. What the addition of these two capital cities might mean. Talk through the Bel'Ameth experience. Difficult to find the quest. What and who is in the new zone. This is the capital city, but might it serve as a new starting zone in the future? Music is amazing and reflects that changes Night Elves have experienced since initial WoW zones. Cinematics associated with Bel'Ameth are looking ahead in the story. Playing the Reclamation of Gilneas. Not the most engaging questing, but the story is interesting. After recapture, the city is quite empty, but that is how it should be. Feels like both cities are being seeded and renewed to play a part in the expansions and stories to come, a long-term view of the developers. I am optimistic about that. Quick hits Azerothian Archives: Early feedback was it was buggy and not very engaging and I sadly have to agree. The activities seem more like pushing buttons and do not yet feel like an improvement over old archeology. Admittedly only halfway through the initial quest chain. Will come back to it, but so far feels like a miss for something I was looking forward to as solo content. Follower Dungeons are as promised. Did a Halls of Infusion and was able to clear three dungeon quests. These quests are from stories from much earlier in the expansion. Only now continuing them makes for disjointed gameplay. It will be nice when they are in place already in The War Within. AND, Blizzard, give us Follower Raids for all the same reasons. Solo-friendly roundup: Dungeon Dojo works to make dungeons and raids more accessible for those who do not like group content for various reasons. Check them out on Discord. Useful video from SignsofKelani on YouTube - How To Gear Up ILVL 476 ALL BY YOURSELF - No Group Content Needed! Good advice to get you to 447 ilvl. Feels like it gets a bit crazy and confusing after that with crafted gear and all the crests and such. Outro: Music credits: all in-show audio from Blizzard; intro and outro music by my real friends in the doom metal band OGRE. Check them out at ogrereal.bandcamp.com. Thanks to my lovely, supportive wife and to Podbean, the host for Solo Queue. Huge thanks to Andrew and Righteous Bandy for their support at Patreon.com! You can support Solo Queue there as well. Subscribe at any of the podcast feeds. Please leave reviews and 5-star reviews when possible, as they will help grow this little podcast adventure. Solo Queue is at soloqueuewow on all the socials, Gmail, and Patreon. Send me feedback on the show, as well as your solo play tips and stories. I want to feature them on the show. Coming soon, and possibly ahead of the February episode, I am launching a new interview series on how people play this game called “How Do You Solo?” Players, fellow content creators, and I am close to announcing the first guest, but not quite yet! Back again in the Solo Queue in a month, possibly sooner! I'll see you out there!

We enter the new pod-century on the Electronic Wireless Show a man down, as Matthew won't be here for a few weeks. Not to worry, though, as myself and Nate are ever ready to hold down the fort. This week we're talking about our favourite cinematics in video games, a fitting subject because last weekend I saw the greatest piece of cinema yet conceived by man: Michael Flatley's Blackbird. I do spend quite a lot of time explaining Blackbird to Nate, but after that we do talk about some cutscenes and cinematics in games (as well as litigating the difference between the two, and Nate tries to remember the first time he saw a cutscene in a game that was in-engine rather than being pre-rendered). And today the Cavern Of Lies is a Cavern Of Justice, after we received a troubling missive from one [squints] Brond Coatwear?
In this episode of Off The Record we take a look at the following films: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2013), Californication TV Series, Odd Thomas (2013), The Last Exorcism (2010), The Snake and the Silver-Haired Witch (1968), Tender Bar (2021), The Girl Who Kicked the Hornests' Nest, and a notable mention of Samaritan from (2022).
This week Kellan Stover joins to talk about his work in 2D animation & making cutscenes and trailers for video games, specifically the recently released Sonic Origins. We also cover all the recent news and rumors including the new NSO Genesis games, Nintendo trademarks, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Switch Pro speculation, and much more. We close the episode with the games we've been playing. Hello, and welcome to yet another episode of Some Patches Required. Yep, we're still doing the dang thing. This week, we're proud to introduce a special guest by the name of Bruce Evans, who just so happens to be a technical artist at Blizzard. We invited Bruce to talk a bit about what exactly a technical artist does, how he got to where he is today, and to give some advice on the potential merits of going to grad school to get a job in games. What we got was a hearty helping of the above with the welcome addition of some relatable stories of career struggles, tales of time spent in Japan teaching English, and a bit of affirmation for anyone struggling to break into an industry they love. What you won't hear is anything about the recent headlines regarding Activision Blizzard. We'll save that for another episode, and we think Bruce's insights are just what the doctor ordered right now - no controversy required. Please, enjoy.Listen to Beach Girl on Spotify Check out edouggieart on Etsy Check out even more edouggieart on InstagramCheck out Bruce Evans at https://twitter.com/brucemevans
The Last of Us. Yep, we decided to play it one more time (or in Alon's case, the first time). Teddy and Danny have played this many times since its release, and to no one's surprise, still loved it. It's a game that gets its storytelling so right. The voice acting is 2nd to none. The plot is familiar, and even has its fair share of tropes, but its characters are so well developed that we didn't mind. The level traversing and combat leaves something to be desired, but hey, nobody is perfect. While this game might not have GOAT status, it was a great ride and a lot of fun to talk about. This may be one of the best pods yet, but that's for you to decide. Next game for Gameclub is Mega Man X. Happy gaming. #PopVultures Ep 54: Dissecting Singapore's Night Owl Cinematics influencer scandal 38:52 mins Synopsis: The Straits Times examines the ins and outs of pop culture in the Asian entertainment and Hollywood scene. This week, #PopVulture Jan Lee talks about the biggest influencer scandal in Singapore now - the expose related to media outfit Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) and its co-founder Sylvia Chan. All, complete with leaked audio and video recordings. Be aware that this podcast episode contains discussions of mental health troubles and suicide. The saga initially began as anonymous allegations of Chan, 33, being verbally abusive to her employees. It later evolved into more serious accusations of Chan misappropriating company funds and delaying payment to talents, among other allegations. After influencer Xiaxue sat down with Chan for a nearly two-hour long interview, the issue has since grown to encompass private details of Chan's personal life, including the breakdown of her marriage with Ryan Tan - her ex-husband and fellow co-founder of NOC. Jan Lee briefly recaps the unfolding saga and examines what missteps were made in Chan's crisis management, why Xiaxue's interview with Chan left much to be desired and who truly emerged a winner from the scandal. Here's what she covers: 'Condensed' recap of the complicated saga - everything from @sgcickenrice to that Xiaxue interview (3:12) Jan's views of the counter-productive first statements from NOC and Chan (16:40) Brief recap and review of Xiaxue's interview with Chan (24:54) Ryan Tan's response to the saga and the initial overwhelming public support for him (33:00) The real winners of the NOC fallout (36:53) See new developments since the recording of this podcast: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVhSYwCJGZG/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CVmeGV8vYIm/ Produced by Jan Lee (janlee@sph.com.sg) and Penelope Lee Edited by: Penelope Lee & Hadyu Rahim Subscribe to #PopVultures Podcast series and rate us on your favourite audio apps: Channel: https://str.sg/JWad Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/JWaA Google Podcasts: https://str.sg/Ju47 Spotify: https://str.sg/JWaP Website: http://str.sg/stpodcasts Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg Follow Jan Lee on Instagram: https://str.sg/Jbxc Read Jan Lee's stories: https://str.sg/Jbxp --- Discover more ST podcast series: Green Pulse Podcast: https://str.sg/JWaf Health Check Podcast: https://str.sg/JWaN ST Sports Talk Podcast: https://str.sg/JWRE Life Weekend Picks Podcast: https://str.sg/JWa2 #PopVultures Podcast: https://str.sg/JWad Bookmark This!
