The dream of the full '90 died in Portland. Darren and Vince take the reigns after a loss in Portland so depressing and thorough that Travis, an LAFC fan trying to enjoy any woods at all, was forced to take the L too and was stripped of his internet connection. But that also set the bar high for Darren and Vince to descend further into darkness than "millennial stuck alone in the woods with no internet," so they let Heel of The Foot Geoff Tock come on and liken state of the season to euthanizing a pet, and that took care of that. They also cover The Bogusz Bright Spot, the team's inability to play from behind, the failed possession game experiment, whether the transfer window was officially a failure, and a whole lot more. After a two year hiatus, Innovation Bay and ARENA teamed up once more for the ARENA Renewable Energy Founder Forum.    Across the course of the evening, four promising founders from a pool of 40 applications in the renewables space were invited to pitched their business to a room of experts and enthusiasts in the industry.    We heard from ARENA's Darren Miller, past alumni 5B's Dr Nicole Kuepper-Russell and an expert panel, recorded the night, featured Renate Egan from the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics, Kate Vidgen of Macquarie Group and Kristin Vaughan from Virescent Ventures.   Today we're thrilled to share the panel discussion with you for this week's episode. Across this educational and eye-opening conversation, Innovation Bay's own Ian Gardiner alongside renewables experts Renate Egan, Kate Vidgen and Kristin Vaughan cover a range of topics.    We investigate the renewable energy industry shifts across the last 12-18 months, Australia's evolution relative to other international markets in relation to EVs and hydrogen and where Australia is going to win within the emerging technology space. We also discuss how the world is recognising the need to globalise the supply chain, export opportunities for Australia's energy commodity or IP and the increasing need for negative omissions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Darren Miller is the CEO of Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) - whose purpose it is to support the transition to net zero emissions by accelerating the pace of pre-commercial innovation.Darren is deeply committed to net zero and improving our chances on planet earth. He believes we have all the technologies we need between now and 2030 - from solar, wind, lithium batteries, electric vehicles, rooftop solar, and household energy management - and if we can deploy these things at scale quickly in the economy, we'll overshoot what we need to do by 2030 in order to reach net zero.ARENA does this by utilising federal funding to invest and support renewable energy startups and projects for the Australian economy. ARENA and Innovation Bay have teamed up for the third year running for the ARENA Renewable Energy Founder Forum on 28 July. The event showcases Australia's most exciting early stage renewable technology startups and pairs them with Australia's leading venture capitalists and angel investors - to supercharge their growth through funding, connections, and advice.Founders in the renewable space are encouraged to pitch to apply (closing 31 May). Applicants will be considered from a broad scope including technology, software digitisation, and consumer behaviour - essentially anyone working on the transition. He states that trillions of dollars needs to be invested in this space and that we need the best people working on the problem. Getting back into the flow of college wrestling season is always one of those things where you’re all fired up and excited and doing so many things, and then by April, you’re like totally spent. Only this year, April means the Olympic Trials! Yes, it’s the first week of November, it’s already snowed twice here in Minnesota and I might already be overdoing it here with Short Time Shots. But have no fear, it’s still pushing through the adversity that is week one of the college wrestling season. It’s too early to whine, I’m Jason Bryant.    Dual Meets: With Tommy Baranowski and Kevin Claunch from Bloodround on the call, Division II Davenport went into Alma College’s gym and beat the Division III Scots 25-20. Rock On. Tommy offered his referee-endorsing apologist viewpoint, while Claunch was spending so much time looking at wrestler’s feet. Ok, he’s a shoe guy, Promo Code Blood20, right guys? The Danny Irwin era at West Liberty got off to a strong start as the Division II Hilltoppers won nine of 10 bouts to defeat the NAIA Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech 48-3. Fastest fall of the night came at 285 where Chase Logan of West Liberty picked up the win in 1:41. The Nick Soto era at St. Andrews wasn’t as welcoming as Division II Belmont Abbey cruised past NAIA St. Andrews 43-6 in a matchup between North Carolina schools. Quick fall for Belmont Abbey was Chandler Echols’ 41-second fall at 174 pounds. In a dual that actually involved two teams from the same Division, that being Division III, Ferrum beat Greensboro 30-6. Both of Ferrum’s returning All-Americans, Levi Englman and Mario Vasquez earned victories at 133 and 141 – respectively of course. Both schools are relatively new programs. A fall at heavyweight by Bridgewater State’s Ryan Higgins was doubly impactful on Wednesday. Not only did his fall tie the team score at the end of the 10 bouts, it was the tie-breaking criteria as it was the dual’s only one and it lifted Bridgewater State past New England College 20-19. I watched most of that dual. Nebraska Wesleyan spoiled the debut of the new Division III program at Fontbonne, that’s in St. Louis. The Prairie Wolves won 38-13 with All-American Eron Haynes, the newly minted American Rivers Conference Wrestler of the Week, picking up a fall in 86 seconds at 133 pounds. In the NAIA, Graceland fell behind the brand new program at Central Methodist 12-0 after three weights, but would win the six of the next seven weights and come away with a 27-15 win in Fayette, Missouri. In the NJCAA, Niagara Community College opened up with a 28-20 win over Mercyhurst North East. Niagara won three of the last four weights to pull out the win, highlighted by Adam Mateo’s fall at 184 pounds. Northwest Tech beat Otero 42-18. PROMO CODE WARNING: I’ve recently posted on Twitter about the number of wrestling podcasts currently out in the wild. There’s about 63 active shows with 20 of them on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. Notables on the Docket for November 7: Nebraska hosts Division II’s Chadron State and Nebraska-Kearney. NAIA Hastings is in there too. Life Pacific and San Francisco State head up to Vanguard, a newly reinstated program in Costa Mesa, California. Up the coast, Warner Pacific heads over to Corban to take on the brand new program there in Oregon. The Battle of Montana continues with Montana State-Northern facing off with Providence – yes, the one in Montana that used to be Great Falls. Iowa Conf- Excuse me, American Rivers Conference action gets underway with Buena Vista traveling East to take on the top-ranked team in Division III – the Loras Duhawks. Yes, there’s another team in Iowa starting the year ranked No. 1. In the Dakotas, Concordia-Moorhead will cross the Red River and face Mary, while St. John’s does the same, only a little further south, facing Division II Northern State – which is in SOUTH Dakota. In Wisconsin, UW-Oskhosh faces UW-Whitewater. Other than Nebraska, the only other Division I action is in New York as No. 7 Wisconsin takes on Buffalo. Note: This isn’t every dual on the schedule, but a good sample of the better ones or more notable things going on. FROM THE DWN: Biggest news of the day came in the brunch hours as Flowrestling and MissouriWrestle both reported three-time Missouri All-American Jaydin Eierman has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Eierman, a native of Columbia – the one in Missouri – is taking an Olympic redshirt this year. This is another major shakeup with a second big name hitting the portal in a week. While behind the Flo Pro paywall, Flo’s Mark Bader had a Skype call with Eierman, who said he’s got a top choice, but didn’t say it on the video. The Daily Herald in Utah reports that 2018 Final X runner-up Jason Chamberlain is making the switch from freestyle to Greco-Roman to challenge for a spot on the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team. Chamberlain placed five times in Fargo at the age-group levels, twice in Greco, with is best finish in that style coming in 2007 when he was the runner-up at 135 pounds. Following up on that news, the kids at the Home Mat Advantage Podcast have Jason Chamberlain on the show to talk about it! Over the weekend, Pat Pecora, the head coach at Pitt-Johnstown, picked up career victory No. 600 in the Mountain Cats win over LIU. The Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown breaks down Pecora’s 44 years at the helm. He’s 16 wins behind Oregon State’s Dale Thomas, who has the all-division record with 616 dual meet victories. com with another strong athlete feature, this time from veteran media professional Darren Miller. This one’s on Kaleb Young, the Pennsylvania native and returning All-American. Columbia also offers up a solid inhouse feature with volunteer assistant Shelton Mack as he breaks down his trip to Russia in Taking Down Cultural Boundaries. Lehigh’s Cory Cooperman and Ed Hamer, American’s Josh Glenn, and Penn State’s Jack Light were announced as the induction class of the 2020 EIWA Hall of Fame. Trackwrestling’s Andy Hamilton keeps an eye on the market – the wrestling market – with Stock Watch, a new feature that identifies who’s up and who’s down in the Division I rankings this week. The Great Falls Tribune features Providence interim wrestling coach Steve Komac, a local high school coach thrust into a post coaching one of the NAIA’s top teams. The Predicament showcases the Galanakis-Sundell showdown on Inside the Rivalry, Chapter 7, Part 4. Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling writes about Transition Wrestling as part of #WomensWednesday. Gary, who will be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame next Spring, has long served on committees and headed up special projects involving women’s wrestling. He talks to the site’s founder, Gabrielle Lord-Klein about Transition Wrestling on TheMat.com. In line with our upcoming Renewable Energy Founder Dinner, we were thrilled to host Darren Miller, CEO of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Established in 2012, ARENA’s purpose is to accelerate Australia’s shift to affordable and reliable renewable energy.Being in an influential organisation such as ARENA, Darren has a very interesting perspective on the future of energy. His knowledge and his passion for renewable energy truly reflects in his words. In this ep, Darren shares some striking data and insights into the renewable energy sector and where Australia stands in the whole picture. He emphasizes especially on the severity and impact of climate change and explains how in this day and age, renewable energy can make us more adaptable to the current havoc and challenge the status quo.Previous to ARENA, Darren was also an entrepreneur and founded two businesses. In 2007, he co-founded the startup ‘Sumwise’ which is an advanced online spreadsheet platform (and had even pitched at one of our past Founder Dinners!). Following sumwise, he was also the co-founder and CEO of Mojo Power, which provides competitive solar feed-in tariffs for households in NSW and QLD.ARENA has invested over $1.3 billion in grant funding to 469 innovative projects, leveraging over $3.8 billion in private investment across a range of renewable energy technologies. It is an organisation making an honest impact in empowering upcoming startups in this industry. This year in March, ARENA funded a renewable energy sensor startup ‘Fulcrum3D’. The startup secured just shy of $1 million for two of its projects, focused on forecasting for wind and solar farms. Darren takes us through ARENA’s ‘A-Lab-incubate’ which is their outstanding accelerator program. This exhibits the organisation’s role in improving the Australian startup ecosystem. We hope you enjoy this thought-provoking episode with Darren! If you’re a founder building a startup in the renewable energy space, make sure you apply to pitch to sector-interested investors at our upcoming Renewable Energy Founder Dinner on October 8th. Why do so many people so revile Boston sports teams and their fans? Because Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are so hateable? Sure. Because they have an easily mocked regional accent? Of course. But also maybe because people are jealous? No. It's because they win the most and sports fans hate the people who are lucky enough to win the most. Duh. Darren Miller is someone who happens to have been born in New England and who happens to like Boston sports and also who happens to be self aware enough to see why some people might be sick of all the Boston teams winning.
