The front cover of The New York Daily News featured a photo of patrolman Ray Cusack, who rescued many children from a fire in Hempstead, New York. Dwight Eisenhower was still undecided on whether or not to seek a second term, while Democrat hopeful Adlai Stevenson claimed Ike's recent State of the Union Address was merely a veiled State on the Republican party. Meanwhile the families of both US diplomats and UN officials fled from the Jordanian sector of Jerusalem after violent anti-western riots broke out for the second day in a row. If you turned on your radio at 8:15PM eastern time, you'd have heard a Boston Symphony concert on NBC, and Metropolitan Opera auditions on ABC. WOR aired True Detective, but if you wanted the best in radio detective fiction you'd have turned on CBS, where Bob Bailey was starring in Jack Johnstone's production of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, written by E. Jack Neuman. The prison where Vance served time is Sing Sing, originally opening in Ossining, New York in 1825. Among the executions in their electric chair were Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, on June 19th, 1953, for Soviet espionage. A good mink coat cost about twenty-five-hundred dollars in 1956. Both Orin Vance and Don Freed were voiced by Lawrence Dobkin. By 1956 Dobkin was a radio legend with experience in both New York and Hollywood. The Westin Hotel Chain was launched in 1930 by Severt W. Thurston and Frank Dupar as Western Hotels. They were the first hotel chain to introduce credit cards in 1946. Today the chain, called Westin since 1981, is owned and operated by Mariott. There are Westin Hotels in both the Times Square and Grand Central area. In January of 1956, 57th street was home to various art exhibitions like Kay Sage's surrealist paintings at the Catherine Viviano gallery, a contemporary Greek Art exhibition at Sagittarius gallery, a European group show at the Matisse gallery, and art and artifacts of various Central African tribes at 57th and Lexington. The Sutton theater, also on 57th street, was showing The Night My Number Came Up starring Michael Redgrave and Sheila Sim. Gloria Tierney's fictional apartment at 1231 East 57th is an impossibility. You're used to hearing about beer, but in this conversation, we're pairing that topic with food. Brewpubs and beer-focused bars and restaurants across the country all have their particular takes on menus that incorporate the two. What you'll hear momentarily shares philosophy and strategy around what people can expect from California's Fort Point Beer Company, which features full-time culinary director Cecile Macasero. Cecile has worked at prestigious restaurants recognized with James Beard awards and Michelin stars. He's organized menus for staff at Google. And as you'll hear, the things he's learned elsewhere have helped him conceptualize what food can provide to beer lovers when they visit Fort Point and what it means to create dishes that try to capture the spirit of San Francisco. Along with Cecile, we're joined by Dina Dobkin, co-owner and chief brand officer at Fort Point, who sheds additional light on the ideas and processes to create a special on-premise experience for people who visit the brewery to drink and eat. Together, Cecile and Dina explain why it's important to have a component of food at a taproom, how their family histories from outside the United States have shaped their own appreciation for food, and how beer and food can find a fun middle ground between what's interesting and what's easy to love.

According to Gartner's 2022 CEO study, the workforce has become the third most important priority for CEOs in 2022 and 2023,1 making this a top issue for the highest-level executives of the enterprise. A number of these workforce issues are the great resignation, hybrid work and burnout. All of these are at the forefront of the VP of HR agenda. Gartner has extensive research addressing these topics (see recommended reading below). However, the shift from the human capital function to CEO and boardroom conversations often has additional dimensions. Beyond attracting, acquiring, retaining and training talent, the collective delivery execution of remote, globally distributed personnel, workflows, processes, and enabling tools and technologies add to the complexity. This translates to productivity and utilization of personnel in pursuit of team-based synergistic collaboration. The collective impact on time (cycle time, elapsed time, reaction time), quality and risk is the boardroom conversation of “labor volatility.” The biggest market implication is business disruption; specifically, the inability to:Launch a new product or serviceDeliver an existing product or serviceAvoid significant delays that have a “material” financial impact The term “material” is an accounting term that means significant financial consequence that must be explained on financial disclosures. This podcast features a case study of global talent resilience to showcase the art of the possible for addressing labor volatility. The case study is about EPAM, which started in the U.S. in 1993 as a software engineering services company. The focus was to deliver application development and engineering services from Eastern Europe. Now, EPAM is a service provider that is a consulting firm, system integrator or managed services firm.PAM had been consistently growing at a strong pace from its foray into the public market (2012 IPO). At the time, financial and industry analysts had identified one of its areas of vulnerability as its unusually high concentration (85%) of personnel in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Thus, EPAM's leadership developed and began executing a multiyear plan to derisk by shifting talent across 50 countries around the world. The plan was moving forward with investments in highly distributed collaboration tools, client engagement and people platforms, and new agile development approaches targeted to multicultural and time-zone-agnostic work techniques. Starting in 2014, a series of disruptive events occurred. There were significant geopolitical issues in Belarus, Crimea and other areas of importance to EPAM operations. This forced EPAM to accelerate its plan. Then, we were all impacted by the pandemic. Similar to many other companies, EPAM was navigating the complexities of the pandemic-mandated, almost instantaneous shift to fully remote operations.hen EPAM entered the public markets in 2012, it had 8,000 employees, with 82% concentrated in Central Eastern Europe (CEE). By 2015, it lowered its concentration in CEE to 71%, having grown to 18,000 employees. There was continued progress over the years. In the second quarter of 2022, EPAM had 60,000 employees, with a concentration of 31% in Central Eastern Europe. In this podcast, EPAM's CEO Arkadiy Dobkin recounts how his team made the incredible shift of people and resources out of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine to more than 12 other countries. From August 2020 through May 2022, EPAM shifted close to 10,000 employees from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine to countries such as Poland, Georgia, Turkey, Lithuania and many others. In summary, EPAM went from 85% of its people in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine in 2012, to 69% in 2015, to 31% in 2022. By any standard, this kind of people pivot is amazing and is a demonstrated example of global talent resiliency.About the GuestOur host Frances Karamouzis is joined by Arkadiy Dobkin. Dobkin is the CEO, president and chairman of the board at EPAM Systems, a leading digital transformation services and product engineering company. Under his leadership, EPAM has grown from a New-Jersey-based startup with Eastern European roots to the foremost global digital transformation services provider — leading the industry in digital and physical product development and digital platform engineering services. Today, EPAM is a global enterprise and part of the S&P 500 Index.

The Roamers dive into the book Sprinting Through No Man's Land by Adin Dobkin who painstakingly chronicled the journey of the 1919 Tour de France cyclists many of whom had recently completed service in World War I. The ink on the Treaty at Versailles had barely dried when the riders took off on a route around the country's border. Most of the competitors lacked the fitness, resources, and tolerance for pain necessary to endure the 3,450mi race for it was a far cry from the modern tour with teams that posses unlimited funding. The 1919 riders didn't just pedal, they acted as their own mechanic, dietician, doctor, manager, masseur, seamstress and even blacksmith. It was a Tour rich with mythology- the first to introduce the Maillot Jaune (Yellow Jersey),  the second longest of all time, but most importantly a race that reunited the war-torn people of France.

On June 29, 1919, one day after the Treaty of Versailles brought about the end of World War I, nearly seventy cyclists embarked on the thirteenth Tour de France. From Paris, the war-weary men rode down the western coast on a race that would trace the country's border, through seaside towns and mountains to the ghostly western front. Traversing a cratered postwar landscape, the cyclists faced near-impossible odds and the psychological scars of war. Most of the athletes had arrived straight from the front, where so many fellow countrymen had suffered or died. Sixty-seven cyclists, some of whom were still on active military duty, started from Paris on June 29, 1919; only 11 finished the monthlong tour. The cyclists' perseverance and tolerance for pain would be tested in a grueling, monthlong competition. To discuss this story of human endurance is Adin Dobkin, author of Sprinting Through No Man's Land. He explains how the cyclists united a country that had been torn apart by unprecedented desolation and tragedy, and how devastated countrymen and women can come together to celebrate the adventure of a lifetime and discover renewed fortitude, purpose, and national identity in the streets of their towns. Dobkin profiles competitors including Frenchman Eugène Christophe, whose commitment to finishing the race after he lost the lead while stopping to repair his bike's broken frame captured the country's imagination, and vividly describes arduous ascents, rubble-strewn streets, and the crowds that lined the route, waving flags and shouting encouragement. The result is an immersive look at the mythical power of sports to unite and inspire

In today's episode, we focus on what it means on a practical level to "let go" of behaviors, thought patterns, and relationships that are no longer serving us and how we can embark upon this process in a personalized, realistic, and concrete way. In addition to defining "letting go" and framing it as a practice, I highlight some key elements that are involved in the practice of letting go, including clarity, radical acceptance, and compassion, and key findings from neuroscience research that can inform and support our letting go process. On August 9th, 1986, actor and director Lawrence Dobkin was part of a SPERDVAC ( www.sperdvac.com ) panel along with Don Diamond and Lilian Buyeff to discuss their lives and careers. During the course of the conversation, Dobkin spoke about working for Cecil B. DeMille shortly after AFRA lifted DeMille's membership card. In 1944 DeMille was at odds with the American Federation of Radio Actors because of a ballot proposal called Proposition 12. It threatened unions by making California a “right to work” state. If passed it would have allowed any non-union member to work in radio at a reduced scale. AFRA chose to take one dollar from every Union member to fight the bill. DeMille was sympathetic to union ideals, he just disagreed with being forced to donate to the cause. The argument dragged through late 1944. Eventually, the courts ruled against DeMille and he left the show on January 22, 1945.

COWS --After looking at all of the available evidence on holistic grazing, and claims made by the likes of the movie, 'grass-fed livestock are not a climate solution'. Grazing livestock are net contributors to the climate problem, as are all livestock. Rising animal production and consumption, whatever the farming system and animal type, is causing damaging greenhouse gas release and contributing to changes in land use. Ultimately, if high consuming individuals and countries want to do something positive for the climate, maintaining their current consumption levels but simply switching to grass-fed beef is not a solution. Eating less meat, of all types, is.Good news- Governor Newsom announced an executive order to elevate the importance of stewardship of our lands to secure our future. It is great Governor’s focus on climate solutions for agriculture and our natural resources at large. We cannot address the state’s profound wildfire risks without addressing the conservation and management of our forests, grasslands, and farmlands. Nor can we address our pandemic-induced recession without addressing the resilience of California’s food and farming systems.3. GG Big story - for me, Goldman Sachs: A democratic sweep would mean faster economic recovery. Contrary to what the president is saying, GS says that polls suggest a blue wave in which Democrats take control of Washington, and they in turn would upgrade their forecasts. Taxes may go up but Biden is promising a bonanza of government spending that, couple with extremely low-interest rates, would likely speed up the economy.I just watched Biden in his Florida Town Hall )- the WH declined the invitation - and it was refreshing to hear whole sentences, sensible responses, and a caring approach. It gave me a bit of heart. Unfortunately, I saw headlines about it being a bit of a setup, so need to look more into that.GG - Awful quote of the day: Senator Mike Lee - Democracy isn’t the objective. Liberty, peace and prosperity are. We want the human condition to flourish. Rank democracy can thwart that.3 MM In a few days, more people in Trump’s orbit tested positive for coronavirus than in all of Taiwanhttps://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/in-a-few-days-more-people-in-trump-s-orbit-tested-positive-for-coronavirus-than-in-all-of-taiwan/ar-BB19LxxU?utm_source=nextdraft&utm_medium=emailMore than a dozen White House officials have recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus, including some who are among the at least nine guests and two journalists who tested positive after they attended Amy Coney Barrett’s Sept. 26 Supreme Court nomination event in the Rose Garden. Trump announced his positive test early Friday, and was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center later that day. He returned Monday to the White House, where he removed his mask, despite doctors saying he was still contagious. Meanwhile, Taiwan — the self-ruled island home to 23 million people — reported just eight new cases in the past week.4. GG Talking to Strangers in a Pandemic Meet Cart maven Emily Hope Dobkin, founder of a company called Betterish, brings people together by having them share their stories in online sessions. Emily Hope Dobkin is the creator of the “Meet Cart,” an actual cart that Dobkin once wheeled around Denver as a prop at the pop-up events and hands-on workshops that she presented at festivals and other events and venues. A one-time arts educator, last year Dobkin founded a company called Betterish, which brings diverse groups of strangers together to share their stories. “Everyone you meet,” she says, “has something valuable to teach us.”The pandemic put a halt to Dobkin’s mobile cart, but not to her efforts to connect strangers. “Amidst the pandemic, though we are finding new ways to connect with friends and family,” Dobkin said, “we’re not able to connect to new, fresh faces.” That matters, because research shows that our interactions with strangers create what sociologists call “fleeting intimacy,” and that people often are more open about their inner selves with strangers than they are with their friends and families.https://www.pcma.org/betterish-share-stories-covid-19-networking/?utm_source=pardot&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=careercenter&utm_term=organic6. GG I plan on getting chicks by the end of this month. Next week is a busy one and I need to get all the stuff sorted for the little tikes. I’ve had hens before but not chicks since I was a little tike so I am excited about that. They’ll need to live in my spare bedroom as they need warmth. I’ve signed up for a how to care for your chicks webinar. Bit concerned about the dogs’ reaction but I think they’ll get used to them.6. GG I have a prolific vine that is giving me loads of passionfruit and never was quite sure what to do with them, until now. They are a bit offputting to look at - a bit testicle-like, but they are scrumptious if you squeeze the juice from the seeds and use that to make vodka cocktails. And they are delicious with plain yogurt and honey; the fruit is a tad tart so the honey just takes that edge off. Do you still have your bees, by the way, Mike? (yes he does) 6. Charlie X was the second episode of Star Trek's debut season to air, bringing a wildcard aboard the Enterprise in the shape of orphan Charlie Evans. In this episode Gerry and Iain take a look at problems that come up when you don't make new people feel welcome and also they have the power to vanish you. Along with Charlie (Robert Walker Jr), we are introduced to Captain Ramert (Charles Stewart) of the ill-fated Antares, a young Yeoman named Tina (Pat McNulty) and an eerie representation of an ancient Thasian (Abraham Sofaer) For the only time there is a role for series creator Gene Roddenberry in the episode, appearing (in audio if not in vision) as the voice of the ship's chef as he struggles with Charlie's intervention in Thanksgiving dinner. Charlie X was directed by Lawrence Dobkin and was written by Gene Roddenberry and D.C. Fontana, both legendary figures in the history of Star Trek. Dobkin did not direct any further episodes, but as an actor went on to appear in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In this episode Gerry and Iain considered how Kirk and the crew handled Charlie's immaturity and lack of control as well as looking at the resolution and whether it was fair to allow the Thasians to take the boy back. The discussion continues in the comments below and please keep in touch with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram where we're @trekpodcast. You can listen to the show here on the website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Pocket Casts, TuneIn, Stitcher, Google or wherever you find your podcasts. Charlie X was released in 1966. It is 50 minutes long and originally aired on the NBC network. It can be viewed on CBS All Access in the United states, Netflix in the UK and is available on DVD and Blu Ray in other countries, including a comprehensive remastered set of all three seasons released by Paramount Home Entertainment.

President Dobkin served for the past 10 years as provost and vice president for academic affairs and professor of communication at Saint Mary's College of California, a private, comprehensive, and Catholic university of approximately 4,000 students. She oversaw the academic vision and operational management of the college, with specific responsibility for academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, communications, institutional research, diversity and inclusion, accreditation, and technology. President Dobkin served as a commissioner for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and on the boards of the Foundation for Hispanic Education and Ujima Family Recovery Services. A little bit about Women's History Month: The national celebration began in 1981, when Congress authorized the President of the United States to proclaim the week beginning in March 7, 1982 as “Women's History Week.” After turning it into a full month in 1987, in 1988 Congress passed additional resolutions giving the power to the President to sign off on every March being designated as “Women's History Month.”

One year ago acclaimed actors Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall appeared together in the film The Judge. The movie is about a big city lawyer returning to his childhood home where his father, the town’s judge, is suspected of killing someone after running them over. It was directed by David Dobkin, was the first feature release from “Team Downey,” Robert and wife Susan’s production company AND Duvall even received a Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. It must be great. No it’s a steaming pile of garbage. You the fans did not ask for it, but in this week’s special episode hosts Griffin and David judged the Judge. Together, they discuss at length the trajectory of RDJ’s career and what lead him to turn down roles in Gravity, Oz the Great and Powerful and Inherent Vice to produce and star in the Judge, why Dobkin thinks he’s funny and why possible incest is always a great sign for drama.
