Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. On this episode, I'm bringing back Keanna, the current esthetician and former Richmond Police dispatcher. I enjoyed talking to her so much, I asked if she could find any other people who wanted to come back with her.. In about two seconds, she shot me a text and said that Dria, a friend of hers, and a dispatcher wanted to come and do an episode. Two former Richmond police dispatchers in one episode? How could I turn that down? So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy our conversation. And after you listen, tell me what think of Keanna and Dria. There's just something about police dispatchers that amazes me. I've worked with them for over thirty years and can't imagine doing the job that they do. They have to stay calm when nearly everyone else is in the midst of a crisis, be it a caller or a police officer. I'm not sure that I could do it. And touching on something else that they, as well as another Richmond dispatcher that I've interviewed, Demetria Ross, mentioned was therapy and simply needing someone to talk to. Someone that you can trust. I think that that's so important in this crazy world that we live in and I sincerely hope that everyone has or can find, someone that they can talk to.As always, take care of one another, and thanks for listening.

It's a Farm Bill year, which means there's an opportunity to change agricultural policy in the United States and the way it helps—or hurts—farmers. Right now, policies reward and finance agriculture that produce singular crops or livestock at an industrial scale, often to the detriment of communities, animal welfare, and the planet. So, what happens when farmers want to do things differently? In this episode, we'll get to know farmers Dria Price and Halima Salazar and their diversified farm business, Justevia Teas. In many ways, their story is emblematic of a beginning farmer success story: their small, biodiverse farm brought in multiple revenue streams and responded to the needs of their community. But even with their successes, their journey to moving off leased land and borrowed land, to owning their own farmland has not been easy. In Just Starting Out we'll find out about some of the barriers they met and the solutions that supported them along the way. Dria and Halima were interviewed for this podcast in December 2022 by Tiffany LaShae, host of Marbleseed's podcast, In Her Boots (Bootless). People featured in this episode: Dria Price & Halima Salazar, Justevia Teas and Gimbia's Kitchen Lulu Moyo, Co-Director of the Braiding Seeds Fellowship Program Lori Stern, Executive Director of Marbleseed

Mark Evans DM is a 10X best-selling author, owner of multiple multi-million dollar businesses, real estate mogul, and angel investor to countless partners. He's involved in everything from real estate deals, restaurants, media companies, e-commerce stores, real estate developments, private lending, and everything in between. Mark's able to run multiple companies without ever going to an office due to his business philosophy which he talks about in his book: 'Magician vs. Mule' Mark is also a mentor to 1000's of business owners around the world. But it wasn't always like this. Far from it. Mark grew up in a trailer park outside of Columbus, Ohio with his parents and 2 sisters where money was a constant source of stress for his family. He knew he wanted a better life and working a traditional 9-to-5 wasn't going to cut. ... so he went the entrepreneurial route and never looked back. At 18 he purchased his very first company (a gutter business) for $2,000. By 30 he was flipping upwards of 60+ homes per month without ever stepping foot into a single property. At 40 he has his hands in over 30+ businesses, multiple cashflow streams, and has created a name for himself in the business world as "The Deal Maker" (that's what the DM in his name stands for) due to his ability to make it happen. However, cliche it may sound Mark Evans DM "walks his talk." He's traveled the world for 7 years straight, given away homes to the less fortunate, built an entire village in Haiti, and continues to give his time and fortune to those in need. Mark has a business mind like no other and lives a lifestyle that most can only dream of ... but his best quality is his character. He does what he says ... and in a world full of posers and shysters ... it's refreshing to see a man keep his word and follow through. Mark is one of the good ones. He currently resides near Cleveland, Ohio and Parkland, Florida with his beautiful 2 children, Mark & Dria, and his loving wife, Deena. Meet Monti Washington aka "Montivation" - an inspiring friend, motivational speaker, actor, director, poet, and author of "From The Streets To The Stage." Monti has impacted the lives of 1000's of students nation wide. Recognized as "America's Adversity Coach" for his ability to show students how to turn adversity into opportunity and success by telling his own story. A couple years ago, Kristin and Dria met Monti at Dria's first poetry reading hosted by Philosopher's Stone Poetry on a night they shared the stage. When Monti came on, both were blown away by his lyrical rhythm, warm nature, and his ability to turn messy topics into a message that resonates with all. The three became fast friends and collaborators participating in Monti's video "THIS IS AMERICA", a spoken word piece inspired by Childish Gambino's hit and our current political climate. Now, we reconnect and talk to Monti about his story starting with what it was like to grow up as a product of a one night stand who never knew his father, how that affected him as a teenager battling with depression and suicidal thoughts, and his overall experiences as a black man in America. We touch on the brutal reality of social inequality, police brutality, sexual assault, systemic racism, and how privileged allies can help. Support Monti on his platform giveadose.co, a judgment free space to share stories, learn from others, and check subconscious bias, and by following him on instagram @MONTIVATION along with the recommended @ShaunKing. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Dria + Kristin
With the start of 2020 bringing in apocalyptic tragedies versus raining good fortunes, we think it's safe to say that everyone's been through the wringer lately. This year has been anything but smooth sailing for most. Personally, it's been quite a turbulent ride for us. We're Dria + Kristin, two best friends who share common interests and diverse experiences, and we're ready to open up tough conversations in order to connect and relate with you. This very first episode we bring to you... personal insights and enlightening epiphanies about "the game" of life, finding your voice, and owning all that you are, a personal encounter & tragic experience with COVID-19 as Dria recounts the heroic details of her father's life and celebrates his memory in honor of his untimely death, and Kristin reveals her vulnerable journey with publishing her first poetry book, 'This Will Set Me Free'. Actor Dria Brown talks about playing Joan in Bedlam's almost postmodern production of George Bernard Shaw's St. Joan in DC's Folger Theatre. It's stripped down in every way: minimal sets and costumes and a cast of four; Dria plays Joan and only Joan; the other three actors juggle 26 roles. The rehearsals were interesting. We hear about her growing up in South Carolina, how time in her father's church readied her for the role, and her desire to get the audience to engage with the performance.
