In this episode of the Electromagnetic Nutritional Hub Podcast, we explore the growing interest surrounding bilberry, vision, light exposure, and the modern pressures being placed upon eye health. With increasing screen use, artificial lighting, disrupted circadian rhythm, and prolonged visual strain now forming part of everyday life, many practitioners and researchers are beginning to ask whether modern living may be influencing visual wellbeing in ways we do not yet fully understand. This episode explores the historical interest in bilberry and naturally pigmented foods, alongside broader discussions surrounding oxidative stress, recovery, circulation, light exposure, lifestyle balance, and systems-based observational thinking. We also consider how the eyes may be viewed within wider terrain-based and Electromagnetic Nutrition perspectives, where rhythm, environment, nourishment, recovery, and whole-body resilience are often seen as interconnected.Importantly, this discussion remains educational, reflective, and professionally cautious in nature. No claim is made that bilberry or any nutritional approach can diagnose, treat, or cure eye disease, and listeners are encouraged to seek appropriate professional medical advice regarding any visual symptoms or concerns. This episode is intended to encourage thoughtful discussion, broader observation, and balanced wellbeing reflection within the context of modern environmental pressures and visual health.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Emma: Hi Dr Cabral! I have a question regarding the sclera of the eye. I have never had really nice white sclera, even though I do seasonal FM detoxes (8 years now), coffee enemas, gallbladder flushes etc (I am an IHP2) I have also run my genetics, and I have 'optimal' detox genes. I was wondering how much of this is genetic as my parents are the same. They are definitely not yellow, but they're just not bright white. I consider myself healthy. I have had mold toxicity, heavy metals, candida/bacterial overgrowth in the past, but I think I have cleared most of it all out although I would like to retest soon. I have friends who have the whitest scleras even though they've never done any detoxing in their life :) Would love your thoughts and thank you for being such an incredible teacher! Stacey: Hi Dr.Cabral! I'm almost done with my IHP2 & I'm constantly researching things. Lately I've been reading a lot about B1 and its benefits for people who suffer from ibs, diabetes, thyroid issues etc. Now I know the question is..why are we all so low in b1 to begin with? But I'd like to get your thoughts on this recent rise in b1 popularity. Is it something to consider or just another trending supplement and are there benefits to taking benfotiamine vs thiamine? Thanks so much! Hope you're doing well. Darrel: Hey, Dr Cabral. I saw a report stating the leading cause of throat cancer in the USA is now HPV mainly from performing oral sex. Not tobacco. Not alcohol. Aside abstention, is there any means to prevent that from happening? I'm seeing most practitioners recommending HPV vaccine. Will that be necessary? Nicole: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am a 41 year old female. I listen to your podcast daily and just ordered my 7 day detox, I cannot wait to start it. My question is.. what do you think I should do for my symptoms? I have a ferritin level of 5 and I am already taking iron(bovine)For the last few months I have had unexplained hives. I get them out of nowhere sometimes when I hold something on my arm or something is tight on my body. I have also had a swollen lymph node for about 5 months and have been to several doctors. No answers. I had a positive ANA test, however all the other tests for autoimmune came back negative. The ENT is not concerned about the lymph node said it is not that enlarged. But I feel it and it bothers me. I take your Berberine, B complex and Infla-sooth. Along with iron and Glutathione Grace: How do I know if I'm over-supplementing? I take a whole list of supplements with each meal. It seems like 40% of my water intake throughout the day is just to take supplements. Especially with breakfast (as I take the supplements one at a time). At breakfast, I take iron (dried beef liver), fish oil, vitamin B complex, methyl folate, myoinositol (for insulin resistance due to PCOS), a probiotic, fiber and vitamin D. Dinner has the myoinositol, fiber, and iron. Lunch has the fiber and iron plus a multivitamin, vitamin C, n-acetyl cysteine, and a turmeric supplement. It seems like a lot. Am I over-supplementing? In this episode, we talk with ophthalmologist Dr. Jennifer Grin about a practical, high-yield approach to evaluating eye complaints, documenting findings, and knowing when to urgently refer. The conversation covers a breakdown of an “easy eye exam” any clinician can do from starting with visual acuity as the eye's vital sign to realistic expectations for the fundus exam. Dr. Grin reviews warning signs such as sudden vision loss, abnormal pupils, flashes/floaters with a curtain (retinal detachment), and concerning trauma. She also highlights common pitfalls like mislabeling serious diseases like conjunctivitis, missing open globe injuries, and prescribing topical steroids or anesthetics without a clear diagnosis. Astaxanthin is showing up everywhere, from eye health supplements to skin and brain formulas, but most people still can't answer the basics: what is it, where does it come from, and what does the research actually suggest it can do. We walk through why seniors are at higher risk for macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and dry eye, then connect those real-world concerns to the bigger drivers behind aging and vision loss: oxidative stress and inflammation. We explain astaxanthin as a marine carotenoid made primarily by microalgae and found in seafood like salmon, trout, shrimp, lobster, and krill. Then we dig into why it stands out in the antioxidant conversation, including comparisons to familiar nutrients and how it supports the body's antioxidant defenses. We also talk about its photoprotective angle for UV-related oxidative damage and why that matters for skin health, including moisture and barrier support. For vision, we focus on practical use cases like computer eye strain and visual fatigue, plus the deeper eye disease topics that matter most with aging. We connect astaxanthin's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to macular degeneration, discuss abnormal blood vessel growth linked to wet macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, and cover the neuroprotection frame for glaucoma and optic nerve health. We also touch on brain health, including research on memory outcomes and typical supplement ranges mentioned in studies, and we wrap with food sources versus microalgae-based supplements. If you want clear, evidence-informed natural eye care guidance you can actually use, listen now, then subscribe, share this with someone who spends all day on screens, and leave us a review. For more information, visit naturaleyecare.com and doctorgrossman2020.comOur email address is info@naturaleyecare.comIf you have any questions, call us 845-475-4158

187,000,000 views. 1.3 million subscribers. +- 500 long-form videos. And right now, thousands of people are watching his content live. Not a media company. Not a full-time influencer. A doctor. In this week's Power Hour, Dr. Joseph Allen, Founder of Doctor Eye Health, breaks down how he built one of the largest eye care education platforms on YouTube, from zero experience in 2018 to a global audience today with over 1.3 million subscribers. But here's what makes this episode worth your time: It's not about going viral. It's about understanding how content actually works.
In a special edition of the This Week in Development podcast, Devex Executive Vice President Alan Robbins sits down with Ambassador Keisha McGuire, chief global affairs officer at RestoringVision, to explore the profound economic ripple effects of addressing near-vision loss, or presbyopia. While often dismissed as a mere "annoyance," age-related vision loss is a significant barrier to global health and economic development. RestoringVision has coined the term "visionomics" to describe the vital intersection of vision, health, and the economy. For millions in low- to middle-income countries, the inability to see clearly can lead to a devastating economic impact on households, communities, and countries. The case for investing in vision is mathematically undeniable: For every $1 invested in vision services in these regions, there is a $28 return on investment. Despite this, eye health has historically lagged behind other global health priorities. However, the tide is turning with major new funding commitments and increased political mobilization leading up to the first-ever Global Summit for Eye Health in November 2026 in Antigua and Barbuda. By treating vision not just as a medical cost but as a catalytic investment, organizations can advance at least seven Sustainable Development Goals, proving that a simple pair of reading glasses can be one of the most cost-effective tools for reducing global poverty. Listen to this episode of This Week in Global Development to hear the whole discussion.

Your eyes are not separate from your brain. Indeed, they are part of the same system. That is why we take nutrition seriously when we talk about protecting vision as you age, especially if you are worried about macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye, or the slow creep of cognitive decline. We dig into the MIND diet, a research-backed blend of the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet for blood pressure, and explain why it is so compelling for both brain health and eye health. I break down what the science is really saying, including long-term data that tracks older adults over years and findings that link higher MIND diet adherence with dramatically lower Alzheimer's risk. We also talk honestly about supplements: they can help, but diet and lifestyle do more heavy lifting when your goal is healthy circulation, lower inflammation, and stronger protection against oxidative stress. You will leave with a clear “what to eat” list you can actually use: whole grains, vegetables with an emphasis on leafy greens, nuts like walnuts, fiber-rich beans, antioxidant berries, olive oil, plus fish and poultry if you include them. We also cover what to limit, including pastries and sweets, fried foods, margarine with trans fats, and excessive red meat and cheese. To round it out, we pair the food plan with practical movement, including a simple aerobic routine and a short workout concept aimed at boosting nitric oxide for better blood flow.If you care about keeping your mind and your sight, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find these natural, complementary strategies.
In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I sit down with my good buddy Ari Whitten to talk all about red light therapy (photobiomodulation) and why it's become so popular lately. We dig into how red and near-infrared light fits into an evolutionary sunlight context, why those wavelengths penetrate tissue differently, and how they can influence mitochondria, recovery, and performance. Ari also breaks down the confusing part most people miss: device choice and dosing aren't one-size-fits-all, and “more power” isn't always better, especially for sensitive areas like facial skin and the eyes. We also get into emerging research on sleep and melatonin (including intracellular melatonin), as well as practical considerations such as clothing and light penetration. Ari's updated book, The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy (2.0), is out now. This episode of WarDocs features Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Charisma Evangelista, the Air Force's leading voice on refractive surgery and an expert in ocular trauma. The conversation begins with her upbringing in the Philippines and her unique path to military medicine, driven by a desire for service and the supportive, collaborative culture she found at the Uniformed Services University. Dr. Evangelista explains her transition from a prospective general surgeon to an ophthalmologist, highlighting the precision of microscopic surgery and the profound impact of sight restoration. She provides a detailed look at the "shield and ship" protocol for managing ruptured globes in combat environments, emphasizing the critical importance of preventing further injury at the point of care. Dr. Evangelista also shares her experiences as the sole ophthalmologist deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, where she managed severe, multi-system trauma cases while navigating limited resources. A pivotal moment in the interview occurs when she describes her own experience as a patient; she suffered a retinal detachment while performing surgery, an event that deepened her empathy for those facing vision loss and shaped her leadership style. Currently serving as the Refractive Surgery Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, she discusses the technological advancements in corneal collagen cross-linking and refractive standards that maintain pilot and warfighter readiness. Host Dr. Doug Soderdahl introduces Dr. Charisma Evangelista as a deeply compassionate healer and a leading expert in military ophthalmology and refractive surgery standards. (01:12-05:13) Foundations in Medicine and the Choice of Ophthalmology: Dr. Evangelista shares her journey from a small town in the Philippines to the Uniformed Services University, highlighting the family-oriented culture of military medical training. She discusses her transition from general surgery to ophthalmology, sparked by a love for microscopic precision and the collaborative nature of the specialty. (05:14-09:32) Specialized Training and Combat Deployment to Afghanistan: The discussion follows Dr. Evangelista through her prestigious civilian fellowship and her subsequent deployment to Bagram Airfield. She details the challenges of serving as the sole ophthalmologist in a combat theater, managing severe ocular trauma and multi-system injuries with limited resources. (09:33-17:00) Ocular Trauma Protocols and Innovations in Refractive Surgery: This section focuses on the "shield and ship" protocol for point-of-injury care and the rewarding outcomes of sight-restoring surgeries. Dr. Evangelista also explains her role as a consultant for the Air Force Surgeon General, detailing how advancements like corneal collagen cross-linking keep service members mission-ready. (17:01-22:35) Personal Resilience as a Patient and Leadership Philosophy: Dr. Evangelista provides a moving account of her own retinal detachment and the traumatic recovery process that followed. She explains how being a patient informed her leadership at the Department of Defense's largest eye center, prioritizing trust, empathy, and perseverance. (22:36-27:10) Advice for Future Medics and Defining a Military Hero: In the final segment, Dr. Evangelista offers encouragement to pre-med and medical students, emphasizing the unique opportunities for growth in military medicine. She reflects on her "Hero of Military Medicine" recognition and her desire to leave a legacy of inspiration and compassionate service. Take Home Messages Protecting the Ruptured Globe: In cases of severe ocular trauma, the most critical step for non-specialists is the "shield and ship" protocol, which involves placing a hard, protective shield over the eye without applying any pressure to the globe. Preventing additional injury at the point of care is essential for giving specialists the best chance to restore a service member's vision. Refractive Surgery as a Readiness Multiplier: Laser vision correction and specialized treatments for conditions like keratoconus are more than elective procedures; they are essential for warfighter readiness. By reducing dependence on eyeglasses and stabilizing corneal conditions, military ophthalmologists ensure that pilots and ground troops can perform their duties with maximum agility and precision. Empathy through the Patient Experience: True compassion in medicine often stems from understanding the fear and uncertainty of the patient. Experiencing a serious medical crisis personally can transform a surgeon's perspective, allowing them to lead with greater empathy and build deeper trust with those under their care. The Collaborative Power of Military Medicine: The military medical system thrives on a culture that prioritizes collective success over individual competition. This foundation of unit cohesion ensures that physicians work together across specialties to provide the highest standard of care in both domestic hospitals and austere combat environments. Persistence in the Face of Adversity: Success in high-stakes fields like ophthalmology requires the ability to persevere through personal health crises, professional challenges, and the rigors of deployment. Growth and innovation often occur as a direct result of these struggles, making a leader more resilient and effective in their mission to serve. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Sarah: Hi Dr. Cabral. Thank you for all you do! Every time I get a cold or virus I break out in full body hives and it takes my body weeks to reset. I've tried your 21DD but seem to be really sensitive to herbal supplements. (Lots of reactions) Please help! Mohamed: Hey Dr.Cabral, 2 part question. Firstly, how are you? Where are you in terms of your overall well-being. I know you get a lot of baggage trying to help others! Just wanted to let you know You helped me a lot. Thought I'd ask, how is your well-being. My secondary question is about water pH, I have an under sink AquaTru without the alkaline remineralization. I sometimes add mineral drops.. wondering about optimal pH range for water. No Kangen yet haha it's expensive for a college student! Jenny: Hi Dr. Cabral - I know you have given recommendations in the past for the community to look into biological dentists, especially when it comes to removing past fillings, alternatives to root canals, etc. What about for regular 6 month check ups and cleanings? If we continue to go to a "regular" dentist for those visits, what is your recommendation about the dental x-rays they require? Thank you! Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral - I have a question about eye health. My father had Glaucoma which eventually led to full blindness. His eye doctor prescribed multiple eye drops to help maintain the eye pressure to help delay the progression, but he was on those for probably 20-30 years (Lumigan, Alphagan, Cosopt). My eye doctor is watching the pressure in my eyes and would like me to begin drops, as the pressure is higher than the "normal" range. I don't want to use drops, but also want to maintain eye health. I follow your protocols, including 2 Omega 3 soft gels and the Daily Vision and Eye Health. Do you have any other recommendations? Is Inflamma Soothe something I should take on an ongoing basis, as well? Thank you for all that you do. Dyan: Hello! Thank you so much for all you do! My boyfriend was diagnosed at 26 with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, with him being so young there are great chances he will go into remission in five years or so and stop his medication. Doctors say CML is a genetic mutation but I know most cancers are from environmental factors. He's taking 50mg of a TKI inhibitor pill daily (considered chemo). I don't feel confident enough in my knowledge to have him stop his chemo pill just yet, but I know we would both love for him to stop it. What is your thought on Ivermectin for cancers patients? I have read it would respond great with his medication. He is super open to anything I've suggested whether it's diet changes or supplements. What supplements or action should we be sure to take? Sleep acts as a nightly repair cycle for your eyes, helping regulate eye pressure, tear balance, immune defense, and retinal cleanup that protect vision over time Irregular or fragmented sleep disrupts your eyes' internal timing, allowing inflammation, dryness, and visual strain to build even if you eat well and stay active Circadian rhythm controls when eye tissues repair and defend themselves, and disrupted sleep timing weakens this protection long before obvious eye disease appears Sleep apnea places extra stress on your eyes by reducing oxygen delivery and disturbing sleep, increasing the risk of optic nerve damage, retinal changes, and surface eye problems that often go unnoticed early Consistent sleep timing, controlled light exposure at night, deep uninterrupted sleep, morning light, and habits that keep your airway open work together to restore your eyes' natural resilience and long-term health

Many people with headaches and migraines don't realize their eyes may be contributing to symptoms. In this episode, Dr. Taves speaks with optometrist and dry eye specialist Dr. Pam Theriot about the growing connection between screen time, dry eye disease, eye strain, and headache symptoms. Dr. Theriot explains how prolonged screen use reduces blink rate dramatically—from about 21 blinks per minute to around 7—which prevents the eyelids from releasing oils that protect the eye's tear film. Over time, this can lead to chronic dry eye disease, fluctuating vision, and discomfort that may feel like pressure or pain behind the eyes. The conversation also highlights why dry eye disease is affecting younger patients than ever, how workstation setup impacts eye strain, and practical daily habits to protect long-term eye and head health. Dr. Theriot shares actionable strategies including the 20-20-20 rule, screen positioning tips, and a simple at-home test to check for dryness. If you struggle with headaches, eye strain, or migraines—especially in a screen-heavy lifestyle—this episode offers a holistic, preventative approach to improving both eye comfort and overall wellness.
