We have the hilarious, refreshingly honest duo Cat and Nat join us to spit some real truths about motherhood and marriage -- everything from feeling lost as a new mom (which is what bonded them together) to why marriage isn't a fairytale (don't worry, they're both happily married). We're also discussing how Covid has changed them forever, how they balance a sex life with 7 kids between them, why you shouldn't look for a "best friend" in the person you marry, and their team of male strippers (spoiler alert: they've stripped for us, too). And we tell a story about something hilarious/embarrassing that happened to Rayna, Ashley recaps her latest date, and we have a slew of recs for you. Enjoy and happy holidays! It's long overdue, but finally here: Our STYLE episode! We have our friend and incredible stylist/professional hype girl Lillian Charles in the house to talk about all things clothes, closets, bodies, boobs, and more. She explains why "it's not your body, it's your clothes", gives life-changing advice for cleaning out your closet, tells us what the majority of women are doing wrong with their wardrobes, and shares tips for dressing for your body type (tall, short, plus-size, big-breasted, flat-chested, etc.) including the best brands to shop. We're also talking about dressing for dates AND sharing our listeners' submissions for the most ridiculous things guys have showed up wearing. And we're talking about mastur-hating and reminiscing on awkward "I Love You"s. Hope you enjoy! Follow Lillian on Instagram @LillianGrayCharles and see her offerings on her website. To be Black in America means living at several different intersections. Writer and thinker Marcie Alvis-Walker joins For the Love Podcast to share the inspiration behind her beautiful, thought-provoking space called Black Coffee with White Friends. Marcie shares about her experience having to code switch as she grew up—she’d have to adapt her language, her likes and dislikes based on the group she was with—and what it’s like for her family to navigate the world being members of different races. Marcie leads us to think about what it means to “celebrate” holidays like 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Columbus Day when your skin isn’t white, and how siblings of different races can use their influence to help their Black siblings. * * * Thank you to our sponsors! Since journalist (and now podcaster!) Jeff Chu came on the show in spring of 2019, we haven’t forgotten his poignant storytelling or his answer to the powerful question he’s asked himself since he was a kid: “Does Jesus really love me?” Jeff grew up immersed in a family of theologians, where knowing and sticking to the Bible’s rules were prized currency. As Jeff approached high school, he realized he was gay. Over time, while he prayed for God to change who he was, Jeff threw himself into his work to escape his inner turmoil and realized he was a gifted storyteller who loved talking with people from all walks of life. A few years ago, Jeff found himself on the road, searching for the answer to his long-held question across America as he interviewed everyone from nice church ladies to members of the Westboro Baptist Church. And as he talked to more and more people about their spiritual beliefs, he concluded that, yes—even though Jeff doesn’t feel like it some days—Jesus really does love us all. And if we actually believed He did, we would speak differently, tweet differently, love differently—in a nutshell, believing we’re loved would transform our lives. And don’t forget to check out Jeff’s brand-new podcast called “Evolving Faith,” which he’s co-hosting with FTL fan favorite Sarah Bessey! * * * Thank you to our sponsors! Today, I'm joined by my very own pastor, Robby Gallaty--and you'll find out why my family calls him the “pastor with a past". Robby shares his testimony of opioid addiction, robbery, homelessness, and hitting rock bottom. He'll also share how Jesus dramatically changed and restored his life, and offer advice for family members with a loved one struggling with addiction. In this episode we discuss: 1. The opioid crisis and how to help loved ones 2. Our struggles as God's refining instrument 3. His health recommendation I refuse to try Favorite quotes: 1. If you keep being that person's savior, Jesus never can be 2. Our struggles don't define us, God uses them to refine us. It's God's refining mechanism, His divine instrument for shaping us into the image of His son is a trial, is a tribulation, is suffering. 3. God uses everything to bring us closer to Him. 4. We have to believe nothing happens by happenstance so if that's the case even our pain and suffering are used by God. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What do you when you feel stuck and don't know what to do? (48:11) 2. What is the quickest way that God gets your attention? (54:36) 3. I know I need to put content out there but I just don't know where to start. Should it be a blog, a youtube channel, a podcast or just focus on Instagram? We are so honored to have the Beyoncé of Porn (our words, not hers) Erika Lust join us for a real and raw discussion about adult films and fantasies. She's an erotic film director/producer and truly a pioneer in the female-oriented porn world, and we're talking to her about how porn has changed peoples' sex lives for better or for worse, fantasies (and how to use erotic videos to make them a reality), where to watch ethical porn, tips for making your own x-rated home video, fluffers (still a thing?), and more. We're also catching up on our latest tour and all the shit that went down, and playing an appropriately sex-themed round of Is This Weird? Enjoy! I'm with the lovely Rebekah Lyons today to talk about her recent adoption journey, her new pace of life, and how she manages stress and anxiety. She'll also share how to rest when we experience burnout and how to see those seasons as an invitation for intimacy with God. In this episode we discuss: 1. Practical advice for those struggling with stress and anxiety. 2. Why she finally agreed to adopt right when she became an empty nester. 3. Why we shouldn't feel guilty for resting. Favorite quotes: 1. Bravery is moving scared. You have to step into the things that are the most terrifying or they will hold power over you. 2. God doesn't promise that fear and anxiety won't come knocking but He always promises a way of escape. 3. The good thing about fear is that the best way to approach it is exposure. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. I know you're a business coach but do you also coach people who aren't entrepreneurs? (38:05) 2. Are we supposed to forgive people even if they aren't sorry? How do I keep from getting hurt again? (40:39) 3. How do you handle the guilt of being a working mom? Jess shares the heart and story behind her latest book "You're The Girl For The Job" and how women can start walking more confidently in their calling, even in the hardest seasons of life. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why we doubt our roles and abilities and how to combat those feelings of inadequacy. 2. How obedience sometimes looks like less and not "yes". 3. How to lean hard on the faithfulness of God instead of our feelings. Favorite quotes: 1. The ultimate truth is I was not the girl for the job. I actually have really messed up some big things up and that has been my story. God has still allowed me to be here. He still places me here on purpose and is still using everything I give Him and everything I do for the good of others and His glory. 2. If you want good for others, you're gonna win. You win. If you want good for others and the glory of God, you're really gonna win. It might not look shiny and might not look tidy but you can't lose if you want good for others and the glory of God. 3. A no, for now, is not a no for later. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. You finally convinced me to give the enneagram a try? Where do I start? (1:04:46) 2. Alli, I have a hard time staying focused and consisted in prayer. What do you do? (1:08:47) 3. What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to start their business? On a fall evening at the Mississippi State Fair, Linda Price was approached a blonde stranger named Glen Rogers. He was charming, mysterious, and exactly what Linda had been looking for. On episode 56, Jac, Alexis and Billy speak with Linda's daughter Chrystal about the horror she and her family experienced at the hands of Glen Rogers, also known as The Casanova Killer. I'm with the legendary Max Lucado--pastor and author of 44 brilliant books! Max is funny, gracious, and full of wisdom and it was a true joy to have one of my heroes on the show. Today, Max shares all about his latest book on happiness, what he's learned about Biblical happiness in his decades in ministry, and some simple ways we can pursue it. In this episode we discuss: 1. His book-writing process and how why his editor of 30 years is still brutally honest 2. The roadblocks he sees to true happiness and why it's harder than ever to find contentment 3. Why the simple act of saying "hello" is profoundly important to him Favorite quotes: 1. Happiness is a deeply rooted contentment in life. 2. I think we can make a great case that God wants us to be happy because happiness makes us healthier, happiness makes us a better husband or wife or parent to our children. 3. Most people are not joyful or happy. Some people are seriously unhappy and so anything we can do to help them step toward happiness is a great service. 4. The big idea in Scripture when it comes to happiness is happiness happens when we give it away. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What are some practical things I can do every day to be happier? I want to create an environment of happiness not just for me but for my kids too. (45:29) 2. What is the best faith-based book that you are reading right now and would you recommend it? (49:32) 3. I know so much of building a platform involves putting yourself out there. How do I get over feeling uncomfortable promoting myself? (51:28) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Max Lucado 2. How Happiness Happens 3. Is He Worthy 4. Movies of the 90s 5. In this episode, I am joined by one of my kindest and most brilliant friends Sharon Hodde Miller to talk about why "nice" can be dangerous. We'll also talk about women in ministry and what it looks like to have someone call out your gifts and strengths. In this episode we discuss: 1.The differences between kindness, harshness, and niceness 2.How to do a heart check for your motivations 3. How to respond to and love others well Favorite quotes: 1. It's really important that when you see a gift in somebody, it doesn't matter if it is a gift of teaching or preaching or any gift in them because that is how they discern what God created them to do. 2. If you are merely being nice and someone is not nice to you in return then that flips really quickly. It flips into entitlement, flips into resentment, bitterness, cynicism but kindness understands this isn't to get a response. This isn't about me. This is about loving people radically and unconditionally the way that Jesus loved us. 3. Niceness can appear to be about others but it's ultimately about us where kindness is ultimately about others. Christ models this better than anyone else. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. I learn so much about the importance of self-talk in Fierce Faith. I loved the whole book and it literally changed my life. There's one thing I still need more help with. I can't seem to break the habit of negative self-talk. Do you have any advice? (49:14) 2. Sometimes I feel like I can hear God very clearly and sometimes I don't feel like I can hear Him at all. I panic when I can't hear from Him and I wonder if its because He's upset with me, is this normal? (53:30) 3. I keep bumping up against struggles in my business. How do I know if its a sign to stop? (57:45) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Sharon Hodde Miller , Instagram 2. Nice https://sheworships.com/nice-book/ 3. Thomas Newman 4. Avengers 5. Alia Joy Glorious Weakness 6. Today, I'm with my battle buddy Bianca Olthoff. With humor and transparency like no other, Bianca is going to get us fired up about finding amazing mentors, avoiding unnecessary ruts and mistakes, and living a life that won't suck. In this episode we discuss: 1. How to pursue a mentor and get the most out of your time with them 2. What she wishes she would have known in her teens and 20s 3. How she accidentally came up with her brilliant new book title #notsuck Favorite quotes: The season and the time that we are in, we are putting forward everything that is awesome. We will post it on Instagram and put a good filter and we'll tweak it and we'll geotag from tropical locations. We will do all these things but I think that this is an opportunity for us to go first and for us to tell people this was a really hard season. This is a dark season. This is a season of failure and there are things that I learned. “Hey, you will probably fail, you probably will fall, you probably will falter, but this is how you can shorten up that curve, this is how you can still have your faith intact. Hey, this is some ways you can survive this season of suck in a way you can thrive and not just feel like you are barely making it out.” I feel like if we can be for each other, we can go further and faster and farther if we sincerely care about this Biblical principle; love your neighbor as yourself. Do you know what our greatest commodity is? Time. So when someone gives you time, don't squander it. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How do I know if I'm self-sabotaging myself and if I am how do I stop it? (54:06) 2. How do I learn to trust God? (1:01:08) 3. How should the “about me” page on my website be written? I'm with the brilliant Lauren McAfee to discuss her adoption story, the Bible, and why younger generations are reading it less than any other generation before. We'll also discuss what shapes a person's view of the Scriptures and connotations that drive others away from reading it altogether. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why the Bible can withstand our tough questions. 2. How Social Media and access to the Internet is shaping the view of the next generation. 3. How it's our responsibility to teach the younger generation to love the Bible. Favorite quotes: 1. We each have an opportunity to make a difference with our lives and that doesn't mean building up fame more, lots of money or these things we can often think will leave an impact in the world but it's stewarding our lives in a way for eternal purpose and looking to live out our faith in whatever area God has placed us in. 2. Looking at the long view, looking down the road saying what do I want my legacy to be? What do I want to be the impact when I leave this Earth and then living our today in light of that perspective. Having that eternal mindset of our days. 3. We hope that people will take their hard questions to the Bible because if it is what it claims it is, which is the Word of God with the truth and the way. Those are bold claims so if it is that, then we should be able to take hard questions to the Bible. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. Do you have a Bible reading plan that you recommend? (37:31) 2. How do you know if a friendship is healthy or toxic? (39:36) 3. How do I name my business? (44:05) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Lauren McAfee, Instagram 2. Not What You Think 3. In this episode, the incredibly wise and gracious Susie Davis talks about her passion to mentor other women. She also shares the lessons she has learned in life, in ministry, and what she wishes she would have known as a younger woman. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why our weaknesses shouldn't stop us from leading and helping others 2. Why women need and can thrive with mentoring 3. How we can point the next generation to vibrant faith and leadership Favorite quotes: 1. Show me the man or woman who at the end of their life says “I felt totally confident in my skin every moment, every day of my life because I love God.” I don't think it works like that. Even when you look at the stories you read in Scripture, they struggled. The people in the Bible struggled greatly. So why is it unusual that we struggle too? 2. It's a life of faith and God is asking us to do more than we normally would do if left to our own devices. 3. Most of the learning, and this kind of goes back to mentoring, should be face-to-face, across the table because that's the only way to really know someone. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. I love your life tips. What is a simple change I can make in my conversations that will help me seem more confident? (57:16) 2. Why does God not answer some prayers? (58:54) 3. Do I need to create a business plan for my new business? (1:01:46) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Susie Davis 2. Kacey Musgraves 3. In this episode, the inspiring Nicole Unice is going to call us to the next level of purposeful living, share why leaders should embrace humility and live transparently, and the key to living brave and courageous In this episode we discuss: 1. What it looks like to live brave and courageous enough for today 2. Why we shouldn't be the hero in our own stories 3. And why hustle alone will never be enough Favorite quotes: 1. You actually can't have anything redeemed unless its broken. Redemption is a word that means inherently that something is broken. Something needs to be fixed or healed or need to be undone or unbound. 2. We all have these amazing incredible lives that God's given us and every single person has a great story in their life. 3. That is where courage is. We get to these places like a rock and a hard place and we have this moment of clarity where we set intention for who we want to be and we just kind of have to jump off the cliff in that direction. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. I feel guilty when I practice self-care, help? (58:05) 2. What's a great devotional that my husband and I can share? I don't want anything girly! I'm with the wonderful Lisa Jo Baker, as we talk about the changes, challenges, and the beauty of being in the middle. Lisa tackles how we can truly develop a healthy mindset that allows us to enjoy and stay present in this fulfilling and fruitful season of life In this episode we discuss: 1. How to live your middle-age years to the fullest 2. How we can see our bodies as lovely and strong despite changes 3. Why she wasn't afraid to share her muffin top picture with the world Favorite quotes: 1. I don't need to seize the day. I just need to make time to see it. I don't have the energy to seize the day. I can barely seize the moment to do laundry. But here's what I can do, this is why I wrote a whole book about it. I can see the day. That is a much lower pressure threshold. 2. Somehow as women, we want to erase the marks of time, the things that show what it took to get here. I just believe so strongly, I think about that verse so often that says ‘the Lord has made everything beautiful in its time,' and that applies to us as women. 3. My kid's feelings aren't supposed to be the boss of me. I'm not supposed to be the boss of me. The Holy Spirit is supposed to be the boss of me. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. I have three little kids and can't keep up with all the details. How do you do it with 5 kids? How can I remember all the little things for them? (51:01) 2. How can I introduce God into people whos had zero exposure and not overwhelm them? (58:21) 3. I can't work at home without getting distracted, should I pay for a fancy coworking space? We are marching on with my "Summer Of Favorite Women"! Today, we are with the fabulous Lisa Whittle. I invited Lisa back on the show to talk about pursuing careers we love without guilt, balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and why your parenting doesn't have to be perfect to produce great children. In this episode we discuss: 1. How to know when your work has become an idol 2. Finding work/life balance 3. How to mold your business mind with your ministry heart Favorite quotes: 1. I appreciate other truth tellers in my life because I do think when you're healthy and you're operating by the control of the Holy Spirit (which has not always been the same for me by the way) but I think when that happens you can take it and you say I'm ready to hear what someone else has to say to me so I'm going to walk through this world boldly and speak bold things. I want someone to say that back to me because I know that I need to be told in the same manner. 2. (That encouragement) let me have this exhale of, “Well, yeah maybe I just really love what I'm doing. Gosh if God has gifted me to this area, He's called me to this, I should live it.” 3. I think this season (teen years) of mothering is challenging for me and it's amazing. I love it, it's some ways my favorite. But I am dying to myself by kind of letting my own position go in many ways and releasing my kids to the world, believing we've done enough, and just praying. 4. I can't really have a friendship where someone won't be real and raw with me and that doesn't mean I need them to tell them all their business, I just need the things we talk about, whether it be topics or whatever is going on, whatever we're going to be talking about. I need you to be completely real with me about it. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What advice do you have with helping our kids deal with acne? (49:15) 2. How should we handle our own inner critic? (54:40How can I make sure my professional email communication is both professional and effective? 3. I'm with the wild and hilarious Melanie Dale who coaches us through the terrifying process of making new friends. We'll talk about how to effectively put ourselves out there no matter our personality type, the importance of staying authentic, and how to round the "bases" of friendship. In this episode we discuss: 1. How to bravely make female friends 2. Advice for introverts and extroverts when approaching new friendships 3. The horrifying and hilarious fail that Melanie experienced when she tried to host the perfect girlfriend gathering in her home Favorite quotes: 1. There are two different kinds of people. There are people who are naturally gifted at initiating and there are people who that's not really their thing. I think if you are an initiator that's a superpower that not everyone has and you need to realize that. 2. I think we affirm people. We're developing a sense of trust. You can share your real beliefs and your real feelings and the way that you do life and the way you're raising kids. You can share that with me and I'm not going to be judgy about it. I'm going to listen and I'm gonna be interested more about you even if we arrive at different conclusions. 3. Don't bother putting on airs because your kids or pets will out you s the faker you are. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How can I become a more bold and courageous woman? (45:44) 2. What do I do if I think God is telling me one thing but no one in my life supports it? (56:50) 3. I'm multi-passionate in my pursuits, can I launch my brand and focus on multiple things at once? (1:01:44) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Unexpected.org 2. I'm with the bold and brilliant Kat Armstrong and she tackles the role of women in the church and how we can break away from unbiblical expectations and tradition. She shares amazing insight from Scripture and women in history to inspire us to lead strong, stop hiding, and fulfill our purpose. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why most Christian women downplay their strengths 2. The inspiring role of women in Scripture 3. How the Church can heal and lead out in women's issues Favorite quotes: 1. We need both genders working together in partnership to show the watching world what it means to love God when we're all in for Jesus. 2. We ask about women, “Is she going to be submissive?” When really the question should be “Is any Christ follower submitting to the Holy Spirit?” 3. Submission, I think, has really become the capstone ‘this is what a godly woman is like' and I think we really have gotten away from the fact that the fruit of the spirit should be the hallmark characteristic of any Christ follower whether they are a man or woman. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What is something small that I can do every day to enjoy life more? (47:56) 2. How can we keep our boys ages 2 and 4 engaged in church? (51:27) 3. What simple business truth do people not understand? (54:13) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Kat Armstrong , Polished 2. Fav 4 Curls 3. Hillsong 4. Great British Baking Show 5. I'm with the delightful Christi Straub. Christi is a licensed family and marriage counselor. Christi shares about the challenges she sees most families facing today. She also talks about why owning and naming emotions is so crucial, both for parents and children. In this episode we discuss: 1. Breaking the busy cycles in family life 2. The most important thing our children need from us 3. Why emotional safety is a vital part of your family's health Favorite quotes: 1. I think once we start to really see ourselves as just a human, or our spouses as human, and our kids as humans, we start to recognize our individual strengths and weaknesses and we're not trying so hard to create little super beings that they're not going to be. There's a whole lot of rest and peace and purpose that comes from that! 2. A feeling is just a feeling, it's not in charge of you. 3. We have to first name and recognize what we're feeling in order to gain control of it so it doesn't get to control us. 4. Are we creating an environment that is emotionally safe? Meaning that emotions are talked about and that starts with us. Are we modeling emotions? In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How can I get my kids to do chores? They're 6 and 8. (47:54) 2. What is your take on the law of attraction? (51:46) 3. How do I know if I'm ready for a business coach? (56:51) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Christi Straub 2. What Am I Feeling 3. I'm calling this "The Summer Of My Favorite Women" so it's only appropriate that I'm joined again by the marvelous Jo Saxton. Today, Jo shares some tips for women who tend to self-sabotage and what to do when imposter syndrome strikes. She also shares about what she's currently dreaming to accomplish and why. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why women tend to shrink back from leadership. 2. How to get out of your own way 3. How to surround yourself with the right people Favorite quotes: 1. Just because it's your vision, doesn't mean other people have the eyes to see it and they don't have to. 2. Virtual access is still better than no access at all and it can be the start of a different kind of mentoring, a different kind of illustration for how you can step into what you are called to do. 3. Some of our dreams and visions are ahead of the technology we have at the time. 4. One of the biggest life givers or life killers of your dreams, ideas, business -- the people you surround yourself with. 5. We are all people of influence and we don't need to be afraid of it because leadership doesn't automatically mean a certain personality type. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. Could you give me just one tip that will make me a better communicator? (43:16) 2. What's the difference between religion and a relationship with Jesus? (43:44) 3. How do you know how much to charge for your services? (49:20) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Jo Saxton , Jo's Instagram 2. Beyonce Before I Let Go 3. Wine Country 4. Padded Bike Shorts 5. WWKERK. What would Katie Ann Ectchevarria Rosen Kitchens do? A heck of a lot. Why? Because she’s everything in one. She’s everything so many women strive to be. A mother. An entrepreneur. A writer. A play producer. A scholar. And my favorite, a human. Yes, contrary to popular belief, FabFitFun Founder, Katie Kitchens, is in fact, a human. She’s relatable. She’s reasonable. She’s well-rounded. And she has no problem telling someone that she is still figuring it all out, while keeping goal- crushing on the front burner. Listen in as Katie and I discuss childhood, the work-life balance, and raising the bar in all facets of life. New to FabFitFun? Use code OFFTHERECORD to receive $10 off your first subscription box. Today we are joined by nutritionist and cleaning living enthusiast Alexa Schirm. I wanted her back to the show as a repeat guest to get practical tips on how to make small changes in our beauty and health routines that add up for big benefits. In this episode we discuss: 1. How our beauty routine can help or hurt our overall wellness. 2. Understanding our hormones and why they are so important. 3. How certain anti-aging products can actually have a reverse effect. Favorite quotes: 1. If you really want to come and work with your body and get healthy and lose weight possible, one great place to start is our hormones and the reason is because that's what is communicating with our entire body. 2. What have we learned in the past by giving up a whole entire macronutrient? That we always end up sicker on the other side. Carbohydrates are an essential part of hormone function. 3. Fruit was a gift from God, I just can't say that is safe to give up. 4. Naturally speaking in some cases it is better for women to be a little bit on the heavier side then underweight, fertility speaking. And so it is hard for women to lose weight, it's not something that our bodies naturally wants to do and do it well. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How do I overcome a victim mentality? (46:13) 2. Do I have to go to church to be a Christian? (53:25) 3. How long should I work for free in hopes that it will pay off in the long run? (57:16) Links to great things we discussed: 1. In this episode, we are joined by business powerhouse Ruth Soukup. Ruth shares her incredible journey of overcoming depression, suicide attempts, and self-harm to becoming a healthy mom and wife and successful entrepreneur. Ruth also shares why her motto "Do it Scared" is so important for her both in life and business. In this episode we discuss: 1. Why you should bravely take action in your life and business, even if you're terrified 2. How to recognize your unique brand of fear 3. How to break through debilitating cycles and find courage Favorite quotes: 1. Stop chasing the numbers that you think mean you're popular and start chasing the numbers that are actually going to make a difference in your business. 2. So often people think that “well I need more page views or I need more likes on Instagram or I need more followers in order to make more money,” and that's absolutely not true. If you're not leveraging the audience you have, you're never going to be leveraging the audience you wish you had. 3. It is because of those hard times, not despite them, that I'm now able to have the business that I have. 4. There was never one moment when it magically all turned around. I think so often in life we expect there to be this magical moment, you know this huge turning point of saying “oh from now on my life is going to be different.” It didn't work that way for me. 5. No matter how badly you screw up your life, you can always turn it around. 6. Fear impacts us, whether we call it fear or anxiety or we call it this apprehension about moving forward. 7. Once you can start to identify that fear and start to see those patterns in your life, that's when you can start to do something about it. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What do I need to do to make my skin look great as I near my 40s? (48:26) 2. What should I do if I don't agree with all of my church's teachings? (54:50) 3. This week on the Alchemized Life Podcast, we welcome spiritual guru - Kelsey J Patel, a Los Angeles based Reiki Master as well as yoga and meditation instructor, specializing in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). After climbing the ladder in both politics and the corporate world for many years, Kelsey was on the brink of “burnout”, suffering from crippling anxiety, excruciating back pain and chronic sickness. Although she sought relief from countless doctors, she unconsciously realized that “popping pills like candy” was not the solution. Despite her skepticism about alternative healing modalities, Kelsey turned to yoga, meditation and reiki for help. Little did she know, energy healing would become her life's calling. Using her spiritual toolbox of reiki, yoga, meditation and EFT, she healed body, mind and spirit from the inside out. How did she become the radiant goddess she is today? By releasing suppressed emotions and reframing her thoughts, beliefs and behavioral patterns, she learned how to cultivate creative and intuitive flow in all aspects of her life, including work. Seeing the profound shifts these spiritual practices have had on her own life, Kelsey decided to dedicate her life to guiding and healing others. Through public speaking events, corporate workshops at Fortune500 companies, retreats and one-on-one sessions, she helps her clients release old patterns and uncover their authentic truth, so they, too, can experience true fulfillment. In addition to her energy healing practice, she is the owner and creator of Magik Vibes, an online shop and solo podcast (which is releasing this week!) for all of your energy healing needs. Reiki, crystals, journaling, smudge sticks, essential oils… My oh my! In the meantime, check out her podcast with Ryan Weiss, Break Up with Your BS, for tips on how you can break up with your ego and tune in with your higher power. When Kelsey is not working, you can find her dancing, spending time with friends and family, and creating community everywhere she goes. We talk about: Kelsey's story and how she found her calling as an energy healer The importance of reframing our stories to overcome workaholism and heal after burnout How we can use EFT to process unresolved emotions and move negative energy out of the body Simple practices we can use in our everyday lives right now to heal and live in alignment with our Higher Purpose Resources: https://www.kelseyjpatel.com (WEBSITE) | https://www.instagram.com/kelseyjpatel/ (INSTAGRAM) Magik Vibes https://shop.kelseyjpatel.com (WEBSITE) Listen to Break Up With Your BS Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/break-up-with-your-bs/id1413714334 ( HERE) Stay Up To Date: Follow https://www.instagram.com/thealchemizedlife (@TheAlchemizedLife) and https://www.instagram.com/avajohanna (@AvaJohanna) on Instagram https://www.avajohanna.com/sign-up (Subscribe to Newsletter) Visit https://www.avajohanna.com (AvaJohanna.com) Sponsors: Athletix CBD Oil: Use code ALCHEMIZED15 on their https://www.athletixcbd.com (website.) We have been big fans of Iliza Shlesinger for-ev-er. Her ability to find humor to connect people around important topics, to stay relevant and inclusive, and to make audiences laugh show after show, is so inspiring. Iliza has been a comedian for over a decade now, but since winning Season 6 of Last Comic Standing, she has truly been unstoppable and ever-evolving. With four Netflix comedy specials, a co-star in her first movie out next year, her 5th special on the horizon, and material that is vulnerable, empowering, and hilarious, Iliza is making people laugh and think. . We talk about what it’s like to be recognized in public, positive and negative feedback from society, and what it’s like to be a powerhouse woman in comedy. With Iliza working on a new movie, we also take a minute to laugh over our fake Boston accents! It’s so refreshing to watch Iliza perform. Whether she’s in character as a gazelle or herself, there is truth in both. You can tell she has been herself since day one. Iliza is playful, unbelievably smart, and has worked hard on her way to the top. We also talk about… Letting comments and remarks go The #metoo movement Iliza’s evolution as a comic Creating and preparing for her special, Elder Millennial Why she decided to not share her relationship on social media Plus, Iliza answers questions from #ALMOST30NATION Find more to love at almost30podcast.com! #Almost30nation! Hello friends! Excited to introduce you to this week’s guest. Evita Robinson founded the NOMADNESS Travel Tribe, a first-of-its-kind movement bringing together and representing the underrepresented in mainstream travel. Their mission is to show the world that travel has no racial, gender, religious, economic, or interest limitations through community representation and relevancy (like the $50,000,000 being injected into the travel industry every year). In today’s political climate, it’s more important than ever to get out and travel, meet different people, and immerse yourself in diverse cultures. It allows us to gain perspective and see ourselves as just a part of humanity; something to keep you modest, keep you grounded, and keep you connected to what’s REAL! We love the way Evita embodies this, and we know you are all going to love her. We discuss… A stark view of how people of color are underrepresented in the travel industry The highs and lows of NOMADNESS’ group travel events (but mostly highs) How NOMADNESS came to be Reverse culture shock: when home feels like a foreign country How Evita approaches building a community Navigating a new challenge + stepping into your light How social media changed travel Evita’s relationship with spirituality The Airbnb experience for people of color + partnering with Airbnb Why you need people of color in your marketing teams + HR Creating safe + sacred spaces What’s next for NOMADNESS: the first U.S. festival for travelers of color!
