Hello to you listening in Great Falls, Montana!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you enjoy jigsaw puzzles. The more pieces, the more complicated the better. Yet, with hundreds or even thousands of little pieces you run the risk that one or more could get lost leaving your puzzle with gaps.It got me thinking: what if the Divine Plan is like a jigsaw puzzle. And each of us is a piece of the puzzle. We bring our purpose to the Divine Plan and bit by bit it takes shape. Ours is a collective effort. If we don't bring our purpose to the Plan it will have gaps; it will be missing us and what we have to offer. The stuff the world needs. That's why we do the work we do. To be of use, to be of good, to be a community. Question: What's your piece? Recorded: May 5, 2022 Duration: 1 hour 47 minutes Marsha Barnhart talks to Dr. Joan Bird, author of the book Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials: Extraordinary Stories of Documented Sightings and Encounters. Dr. Bird is a Zoologist who specialized in animal behavior. She moved to Montana in 1973 to pursue graduate studies in zoology at the University of Montana, and in 1983 she completed her Ph.D. on inter-island variation in West Indian finches. Dr. Bird worked as a conservation biologist for the Montana Environmental Information Center, The Nature Conservancy, and Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. She has also worked as a fire lookout in both Washington and Montana. Joan freelanced as a nature interpretation writer and has written numerous articles for scientific and conservation publications. Actively involved in women's empowerment, she was a columnist for Crone Magazine. A lifelong student of unexplained phenomena and long-time member of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, she has worked as a community educator and change agent. When Joan was a teenager, her mother had a near death experience. This engendered a lifelong interest in exploring paranormal and esoteric subjects. And, although steeped in scientific materialism from her academic training, Dr. Bird eventually began to study and attempt to understand the inexplicable. In this episode of API Conversations, Marsha and Dr. Bird discuss the contents of her book, Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials, and delve into a host of related philosophies, concepts and theories regarding UFO's, the ET Hypothesis, the Nature of Reality, the possibility of Past Lives and the value of Consciousness Studies. I had Tom Figarelle on the podcast today and he's the Executive Director of the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana. This podcast is unique because we get to hear the extent of Tom's love for his hometown which is Great Falls, MT. It's where he's from, where his parents are from, and where he lives and works to honor a historical figure that loved Great Falls just as much. The idea that a Western artist who died in 1926 can have such an impact on the world of art, but also have an immense influence on the state of Montana where he's kind of a superstar... It's mind-boggling stuff. You see, I'm very fortunate in my personal, most recent connection to the C.M. Russell Museum. I was actually invited to go and lecture there on August 20th of this year (2022) at this massive Charles Russell show that they have. There's a major auction component to the show and they give out an award, the Western Heritage Award, which I'm very fortunate to be the recipient of this particular year. I encourage everyone to listen to this and if you can come out and see the show in August, it sounds like it's going to be an amazing event.I guess what really amazes me is that in some parts of the world, in some parts of America, there are artists that can break through and we can really see how important these people are. So I was thrilled to talk to Tom because he really could talk about this in a very intimate and personal way, having grown up in Great Falls and really kind of ended up with his dream job of being the executive director of this museum.Learn more about the upcoming show and auction at the C.M. On today’s show we’re talking about investing versus speculating, and we’re answering a listener question about where to invest in today’s environment. This question comes from David in Great Falls Montana. David asks, I want to thank you for all the hard work you put in on putting out great content that is filled with such helpful information. I had a question on the podcast you put out on April 14th about stagflation. I was wondering what are good assets to buy to hedge against stagflation in the economy. David this is a great question. One of the best short term hedges against inflation is precious metals. I definitely recommend parking cash in precious metals during a time like this. But I have to tell you that it’s extremely difficult to buy gold or silver at the retail level today. The supply has completely dried up and almost all the dealer’s I’ve researched have zero inventory. I like the way you phrased the question. Instead of asking where to invest, you asked what asset you should buy. In this context, I’m going to use Robert Kiyosaki’s definition of the word asset, where he defines an asset as something that produces positive net income. We are of course at a moment in time where problems are everywhere. I’m continually shocked by the fundamental lack of understanding of what investing is really all about. Some people just focus on buy low, sell high. The true investor mindset understands the value of an asset, but not just because it sold at a certain price. My thought is to focus on tactical problem solving. We are going through a global problem with supply chains right now. These are not going to resolve quickly. The recovery which is months away will be incredibly messy and inefficient. The path to earning is to solve problems that people are willing to pay money to have solved. The most trivial example is the guy walking through the crowd at a summer music festival selling cold bottled water for $2 per bottle. They paid $0.30 per bottle and are making a healthy margin. But they’re solving a problem. The problems abound right now. 90% of the doorknobs in the world are manufactured in China. There is a global disruption and everyone in construction is experiencing shortages of hardware for doors. That’s a problem that needs to be solved. Supply chains are going to be re-evaluated in the coming months with a greater emphasis on security of supply. It used to be that everything was being commoditized and lowest price always wins. That may change in the future. There will be a shortage of spare parts, globally. Anyone with a machine shop who can manufacture spare parts from a CAD file will do very well. Any machine shop that can create the CAD file by copying an existing part that might be broken by digitizing the dimensions will do very well. There are shortages in the food supply that have opened up and will become increasingly acute in the coming weeks and months. Someone with a few hundred thousand tomato plant seedlings would probably get a good price for them. It would only take a couple of acres to produce a few hundred thousand seedlings. It likely that many men in North America are going to be reluctant to go to the barber shop to get their hair cut anytime soon. Sales of hair clippers have gone through the roof. Inventories are sold out and many orders are experiencing long lead times. Here’s another problem to be solved. They’re literally everywhere. You get the idea. It’s about discovering the real problems and finding a way to add real value, not just being a middle-man in the transaction. I want to thank you David for a great question. This is a question that we’re going to be looking at repeatedly over the coming days and weeks.

In this episode we sat down and had a chat with Liz Donaldson known as huntress.life.liz on Instagram. What a great story and message she has. Her husband Ian and her are fortunate enough to be stationed in Great Falls Montana and they take full advantage of the opportunities that area has to offer. Taking up hunting to spend more time with her husband was the beginning of an outdoor journey that will never cease to provide an enriched life for them. It was so refreshing listening to her tell her story on why she started hunting. She has gone from a non-hunter to a full blown hunter, conservationist and outdoorswoman. Take Liz's example and get out and volunteer. She's in the process of becoming a Montana Hunter Education Instructor! During the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union, each side developed and demanded more military might. The best deterrent for an all out war, they thought, was a strategic nuclear armament, so large, that each side would ultimately destroy each other, and the whole earth, some 300,000 times over if anyone made the first move. It was a time of high tension, of nuclear holocaust fear and duck and cover propaganda. To reach the Soviet Union, the United States placed 1000s of nuclear armaments in Northern Montana strategically placed near the Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. The country-side was literally dotted with Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile installations. Today, most of these have been decommissioned as part of armament treaties and partly due to age and lack of upgrading. There is, however, a significant amount of newer, more powerful, nuclear weapon silos on and near the base.On our last episode we discussed the Mariana UFO incident and we left you with a question why there has been and continues to be a high number of UFO sightings in Great Falls Montana. And I think by now you have already figured this one out. This is Unsolved Mysteries of the World, Season 3 Episode 14, The Minutemen Guardians. Through his story, you'll learn about the dedication, the networking, the opportunities you must grab, the hustle and grind and above all, the patience that it takes to make it to where he's at. Story 1 - Castle Parks are Expanding Whenever we hear about new parks being established, it's great news - and this January, we got a double whammy as the Alberta Government finalized the boundaries of Castle Wildland and announced the creation of Castle Provincial Park on January 20, 2017. These two parks protect more than 1000 square kilometres or almost 400 square miles of the southern Alberta Rockies known as the crown of the continent. They provide a critical habitat that encompasses the spine of the Rockies which is one of the most diverse ecological areas in the entire Rocky Mountain chain. Bordered on the south by communities like Missoula and Great Falls Montana, it follows the Rocky Mountain Ridge northward to Alberta's Kananaskis Country. These newly established parks will help to provide more consistent protection along the Rocky Mountain Ridge and runs all the way from Waterton Lakes National Park to the Crowsnest Highway, or Highway 3, in southern Alberta. The Wildland Park will focus more on low-impact access and will contain the most critically sensitive landscapes in terms of headwater protection, wildlife movement corridors and critical plant and animal habitat. The provincial park will have more frontcountry development and includes former Provincial Recreation Areas like Lynx Creek, Castle Falls, Castle River Bridge, Syncline, and Beaver Mines provincial Recreation Areas. Story 2 - Whirling Disease Updates Just this week, aquatic specialists with Parks Canada announced plans to remove all the fish from Johnson Lake. Parks is planning to use nets and electrofishing this spring to begin the removal process. They'll pack it in for the summer months between Canada Day on July 1 and the end of the Labour Day weekend in September. The lake will be open for visitation this summer, but all watercraft will remain banned. This includes stand-up paddleboards as well. The spores are just too easily spread by watercraft and all too often the boats are not cleaned well enough to make sure they are spore free. In the fall they'll continue to collect fish and also lower the water level using pumps in order to make it easier to force the fish into a smaller area and facilitate their capture. It's also a better time to lower the water level as park biologists are worried about the local amphibian population and they're more prevalent in the lake during springtime. Story 3 - Shocking Bears As part of a recent study undertaken by Parks Canada in coordination with Canadian Pacific Railway, park officials are continuing to investigate the use of electrified mats or electromats along with electrified fencing in areas that have become hotspots for bear fatalities. The mats are still in the experimental phase and the heavy snowfalls that occur in the mountains still provide limitations to their effectiveness. A number of different solutions are being investigated and many different solutions may eventually be incorporated to reduce the number of bears fatally struck by trains passing through the mountain parks. Story 4 - Pine Beetle Updates The past 2 decades has seen our mountain media full of stories of the mountain pine beetle. This tiny beetle has decimated pine forests through the mountain west for the past 10-20 years. Pine beetles are barely the size of a grain of rice, yet they are the most damaging insect pest in North America. The odd thing is that they are not some introduced pest from Europe or Asia, but a natural part of the mountain forest ecosystem. Every species is a reflection of its habitat as reflected in the climate, landscape, and plant communities. The mountain pine beetle has always been a part of this larger ecosystem, but in the last 20 years, it has exploded in numbers and in many ways overwhelmed the forests that it has called home.
