It's a vital part of life. It saves us from getting hit by cars, it helps us focus on – solving problems. But when stress becomes a way of life instead of a part of life, – that's when we see more of the problems.” — Jordan Friedman [0:20:13] “Yes, meditating can help you feel calmer. It can take the edge off [your] stress and anxiety, but if that stress and anxiety continues to flow into your life – you might get into a situation where meditation isn't enough.” — Jordan Friedman [0:26:52] “Something we get wrong – is that we're putting band aids on things that need more attention than a band aid.” — Jordan Friedman [0:27:25] “We have great control over our fight or flight responses; maybe not initially when we're first slammed with the stressor, but pretty soon after, the way we think about things [and] what we do can help us get back on our feet and move in a clearer, more confident, less stressed way.” — Jordan Friedman [0:34:37] “It's not only about changing your life situations to stop the fire hydrant of stress. It's also doing things to – keep your roots solid; breathing, sleeping, exercise, all of it.” — Jordan Friedman [0:38:34] “Reliable, predictable things in your life, [like] going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, – will help counter a lot of the lack of predictability that causes so much stress in the world.” — Jordan Friedman [0:44:09] Watch our Finding Brave episodes on YouTube! In this heartfelt and soul-deep episode, I open up about my evolving relationship with movement and exercise after years of body shame, self-hate, and disordered eating. I share a tender personal story involving a powerful angelic encounter and a song that arrived like a divine signpost on my path. Through the lens of healing, I explore how the term Light Warrior is helping me reconnect with my body—not as something to control or fix, but as a sacred vessel of light, strength, and love. I also read a passage from a book on Lightworkers called, Lightworker by Sahvanna Arienta that beautifully affirms this journey for me. This episode is an offering of vulnerability, spirit, and playfulness—a reminder that healing our relationship with our bodies is possible, and it all begins with love.I'm Emma Freeman, a Mixed Media Artist, Reiki Master, Psychic Medium and Teacher in Wisconsin. In today's episode, I share a profound personal experience of connecting with a young boy in spirit named "Owl-Led" while setting up to teach a Reiki class in my healing space which is in an old historic building. I feel called to share this experience and the emotional journey of understanding Owl-Led's story, reuniting him with his mom in Spirit, and learning to trust my body to tell me this was, in fact, a real experience. I reflect on the significance of these spiritual experiences in my life and encourage others to embrace their own encounters with the unseen aspects of life. I also share a poem I wrote called, "Bodies Full of Birdcages" that speaks to my need to share these kinds of stories from deep within me. Highlights:I set a serene scene before sharing my story, inviting you to sit with me at my art table with the windows open and beagles snoring behind me. I encountered a young spirit named Owl-Led during a Reiki class I taught. Owl-Led expressed his desire to stay and connect with me.I learned Owl-Led's name through a unique telepathic experience. The connection with Owl-Led deepened as I engaged with him through kindness, curiosity, compassion and gentleness. Owl-Led revealed he was alive during the 1800s and has a very playful spirit.I introduced Owl-Led to my Reiki students, one of who could also sense him.Clementine, another young spirit, is called in to keep Owl-Led company.I facilitated a reunion between Owl-Led and his mom, leading to a very emotional goodbye.I encourage others to share their spiritual experiences with me or someone they trust which can help us feel seen, understood and known on a deeper level. 185 Every marriage needs a foundation of respect to thrive. Yet, in so many marriages, there's a lack of respect. Studies show that men, especially, feel its lack, which tends to take a big toll on the sense of love and connection in that relationship. Why is this so common? Well, for one, it does not always come naturally to be respectful. And, as women, we may sometimes shy away from giving our respect to our spouse because we have a misunderstanding of what it looks like when it comes to intimate relationships. Or we wait for them to be more loving first. So, in this episode, let's:Clear up the misconceptions about what respect looks likeClarify exactly what many women do that leads men to feeling disrespected (it can be less obvious than you may think)Discover why, if your partner is feeling disrespected, it is hurting your whole relationship and making it harder for you to feel loved, too Learn about why it matters so much to cultivate respect–especially if you are married to a man.And get 10 specific things to do and ways to communicate to build more mutual respect– and ultimately love– into your marriage. If you want to feel more loved, and even like a treasured queen, you want to start leading more respect into your relationship. It's like an aphrodisiac to most men–and will create a positive snowball effect in your marriage as you build it into your daily life together. It's just easier to avoid overwhelming and overstimulating places, spaces, things and people as a Highly Sensitive Person, isn't it?! Well ... sometimes but not always. Like everything, the honest answer is 'it depends'. If you are a Highly Sensitive Person then it's likely you know the feeling of wanting to avoid the things that are dysregulating. Whether it's a social situation, a high pressured environment, public speaking or something else, you might be familiar with the urge to avoid. Sometimes that is the kindest, most supportive answer. And sometimes? Sometimes we WANT to be in those overstimulating places - we just don't want to be overstimulated!Join me, Erica Webb, for this episode of the podcast, SelfKind, where I'm sharing some questions you can ask yourself to figure out: avoid or not? Mentioned in this episode:
When you feel like you're always second-guessing yourself, it's tempting to idealize being a "one-and-done" decision-maker! But what if changing your mind isn't a sign of weakness but actually a sign of wisdom? In this episode, we're tackling the myth that Highly Sensitive Persons are “wishy-washy.” You'll learn how “trying on” different options can free you from the guilt of sunk costs, help you honor your real-time needs, and lead to better choices in the long-run. You'll also gain permission to update out-dated decisions, while embracing God's grace as you grow. Changing your mind does not make you flaky. So often, it simply means that you're paying attention! Chances are, you're not short of knowledge as a Highly Sensitive Person. You know all about some of the things that could support you to feel better. But sometimes? It's easier to think about them than it is to *do* them!As a Highly Sensitive Person, this makes a lot of sense. Depth of processing is your jam. But when thinking becomes a proxy for doing, you risk missing out on the full benefits of your self-care practices. Join me, Erica Webb, for this episode of SelfKind - a Podcast for Highly Sensitive People. In this episode I'm talking about the challenges faced by highly sensitive people in transitioning from knowledge to action, particularly in the realm of self-care. You'll hear: - some of the emotional and cognitive barriers that might prevent you from implementing self-care practices- why cognitive knowing is not enough and how somatic, felt experiences can make all the difference- practical strategies for translating knowledge into action.'Mentioned in this episode:
In a world that idealizes instant answers and snap decisions, Highly Sensitive Persons often get labeled hesitant ... indecisive ... over-thinking. But what if your HSP brain and body are not motivated by being told to “Hurry Up”? What if your soul responds to pressure by asking, “Can we please slow down?” What if you need a counter-cultural approach to decision-making? In this episode, I share a real-life story of navigating a big decision (with a looming deadline) as an HSP who is, by definition, a reflective thinker. You'll learn how scripture, curiosity, and community can lead to clarity and confidence. If you, too, struggle with decision-making, I hope you'll find encouragement to honor your God-given pace and—whenever possible—to Take. Your. Time. This episode is one of the -- if not THE-- #1 most essential episode of this podcast, if you want to have a loving, connected lasting marriage. SO important I'm updating and re-publishing it so you can listen again--or for the first time. Most of us limit ourselves (unconsciously, of course!) from feeling as much love as we could in our marriages. We therefore not only miss out on all the love available, but we also miss out on the benefits it brings to our marriages, and to our own selves–of which there are SO many, especially for you as a highly sensitive person. Now, you may want to feel more love, but you may also feel like it's not really up to you. That how much love you feel is contingent on how loving your spouse is. You may tend to only experience feeling love when it's easy to do so, and not so much when your husband does things that make it hard to love.Today, my friend, we begin to change all of this. Because love is always available to you, and you can even love what is hard to love (only if you want to, of course!). But it is a skill you may need to learn, so it can become habit–or simply natural to you. When you make a habit of loving without conditions, only good can come of it. Listen in to this episode to find out what I mean, how it can bring out the gift of your sensitivity, and how you can be empowered to have so much more love in your marriage and life–no matter what your husband is or isn't doing– by no longer withholding love unconsciously, and instead making unrestricted love a regular and deeply nurturing part of your life.SHOW NOTES:ACCESS THE COURSES MENTIONED: Stop Taking It So Personally Closer To Your Husband in 7 DaysENJOYING THE SHOW?Get the HSHM Podcast Map, so you can quickly identify the episodes most helpful for your unique relationship, by supporting the podcast (for as little as $3) HERE. It wasn't so long ago that Georgie learned there was a name for the way she felt ... being a Highly Sensitive Person. Maybe you've been there too? Discovering, for the first time, that there are words and experiences that are shared by others who also have this trait. That you're not actually 'too much' or 'too sensitive', but that you are a part of that minority percentage of the population who are more sensitive. Georgie found that discovery to be pivotal. And one of the biggest shifts ? An enhanced capacity to meet herself with compassion. Join me, Erica Webb, host of SelfKind, as I chat with Georgie Druckmann - doula, mother and highly sensitive person - about the impact of putting words to her high sensitivity and what we can all learn through her work as a post-partum doula. We talk about compassion, the importance of community care, and how, as Highly Sensitive People, we can navigate asking for and receiving support.About Georgie Druckmann:Georgia is a mum and postpartum (and previous) birth doula, living in Naarm/Melbourne. With her relatively recent discovery of being a HSP, many pieces of how she moves and feels in the world now make so much more sense and she can see how being HSP has made things harder at times but has also been her super power in how she nurtures others through being a doula, mother, partner and friend.Connect with Georgie:https://www.instagram.com/nurture.mummaAbout your host, Erica Webb:Erica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach and highly sensitive person. Being able to pause is immensely powerful when it comes to communication and navigating conflict is a graceful way– and even avoiding conflict and reactivity altogether. I would go so far as to say being able to Pause, in the way I describe in this episode, is a sacred skill. It gives you the ability to respond skillfully, instead of reacting in a way that makes things worse. But, as simple as the idea of pausing is, it is HARD to actually do. This episode will change that!So listen in to hear:What the pause actually is, Why it's so key to success in loveWhy it is so hard to do (without the key I will teach you)They 1 major key to being able to successfully do itAnd the practical and simple practice that will make you a pro at the Pause in a matter of weeksOnce you've tuned in and done as I suggest in this episode, you will be so much further ahead of most people in your ability to respond to your spouse, no matter the situation, in a way that invites peace, understanding, connection, and even collaboration, and you'll be well positioned to preserve and deepen the integrity and strength of your relationship for the long haul.SHOW NOTES:CHECK OUT THE COURSES MENTIONED: Stop Taking It So Personally Closer To Your Husband in 7 Days ENJOYING THE PODCAST?Don't miss an episode!
