Sensitivity has been demonized by overbearing parents, sensationalist media, and systems of oppression. Mory and Melissa report back on their own experiences with being able (or not being able to) sense changes in their environment, how one might approach being overwhelmed by physical sensation, and how this overlaps with being an empath. Navigating Autism and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance or Pervasive Drive for Autonomy)  I discuss being diagnosed Autistic with a PDA (pathological demand avoidance) profile. I express frustration with the DSM criteria for ADHD and autism, as I don't see myself in the criteria. I highlight the common misdiagnosis of PDA as oppositional defiant disorder in children, emphasizing the need for a deeper understanding of neurodivergent experiences. I advocate a shift from viewing differences as deficits, and the importance of recognizing the unique perspectives of neurodivergent individuals. HIGHLIGHTS Summary In this episode, Patricia shares her personal reflections on being diagnosed autistic and the challenges she faces with Pathological Demand Avoidance, (PDA). Patricia prefers Pervasive/Persistent Drive for Autonomy instead. She discusses the differences between autism and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) and emphasizes the importance of understanding the lived experience of autism. Patricia also explores how PDA affects parenting and the need for low-demand environments. She reflects on her struggles with holiday traditions and the importance of self-acceptance and embracing stimming. Additionally, Patricia discusses the impact of seasonal changes and offers insights into managing PDA in daily life. She concludes with a book she enjoyed reading that has coded autistic characters in it. Some of the challenges and awarenesses about being autistic and having a PDA profile: ·         Patricia shares her frustration with the DSM criteria for ADHD and autism, as she does not see herself in the criteria. It was written for white boys who externalize their symptoms. Many late-diagnosed, high-masking folks tend to internalize their presentation, and they go undiagnosed and don't see themselves in the criteria, which needs to be updated. ·         Patricia emphasizes the importance of understanding the lived experience of neurodivergent individuals and the need to look at differences rather than deficits. ·         She expresses her passion for wanting researchers and experts in the field of ADHD, autism, and HSP to work collaboratively to find commonalities. ·         Patricia talks about the challenges of being formally diagnosed with autism and how it has led to a year of "Ahas." ·         She shares insights into how PDA shows up in her life, including anticipating things that could go wrong and giving people permission to not respond. Takeaways Understanding the lived experience of autism is crucial for creating a supportive environment. Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) also known as Pervasive/Persistent Drive for Autonomy, can be misdiagnosed as oppositional defiant disorder and is characterized by nervous system dysregulation. Parents with PDA may face challenges in parenting neurodivergent children and may benefit from creating low-demand environments. Embracing self-acceptance and allowing oneself to stim can lead to a greater sense of joy and freedom. Seasonal changes can impact mood and energy levels, and it's important to listen to one's body and practice self-care. Anticipating demands and setting boundaries can help manage PDA and reduce stress. The book 'Lessons in Chemistry' features characters who are coded as autistic and explores themes of feminism and neurodiversity. Break the Anxiety Cycle in 30 Days- Online Course- https://courses.therapyinanutshell.com/anxietyskills Being highly sensitive doesn't mean that you take things personally or that you're fragile. It means your nervous system processes information more deeply and intensely than the average person. You are more impacted by lights, smells, sounds, body language, facial expressions, and emotions than the average person. While this sensitivity sometimes requires extra time to rest, recharge or process, being an HSP is a difference, not a disability. It's something you're born with, and when you let go of the cultural shame around it, it can be one of your greatest strengths. Looking for affordable online counseling? Were you told as a child "stop being so sensitive", or felt the need to apologize for your sensitive + soft Nature? In a world that does not revere + respect sensitivity, this can leave those of us who are to experience micro-traumas (or as we talked about in Ep. 71, covert traumas) and feelings of aloneness, anxiety, and frustration in not feeling understood and accepted as you are. In a beautiful conversation with Alissa Boyer of the Sensitive and Soulful podcast, you will learn how to overcome this shame of being sensitive and learn how to harness your HSP powers which is the joy and divine gift of deeply experiencing life. As Alissa speaks about, being highly sensitive is a missing barrier between you and the rest of the world, but what if that missing barrier allowed you to access portals that create the visionaries and luminaries of life? For those listening that are not highly sensitive, Alissa also shares guidance for being an ally and how to help those in your life that are highly sensitive feel loved, respected, and accepted for their sensitive nature without being ostracized. By the end of the episode, you will truly be feeling the embodiment of Alissa's teachings which is an "I have my own back" kind of energy to surrender the feeling of being a "canary in a coalmine" (which is one of my fave Police songs, fyi!)  - listen here! In fact, my highly sensitive soul is even crying now writing this listening to this song, LOL. After a break, the podcast is back with series 6 and I am so pleased to be joined by co-host Robbie Leigh for what we're calling the HSP Connection series. We are both really excited to bring you these conversations about all things high sensitivity and HSP. We will talk about our experiences of being HSPs, how we found out, what it means, what it means for us, how we bring it into our work as high sensory coaches, what it means in our everyday lives, what it means to the people around us and how amazing it is to be a HSP. You might be a HSP or know someone who is and Robbie and I want to have a bit of fun and spread the word about being an HSP, what it means and how HSPs can really thrive when they look after themselves. There's something in this series for everyone not just HSPs. HSPs are not better than non-HSPs and we're also not worse. We're just a bit different and what's good for HSPs is good for everyone. For those of you who don't know, HSP stands for Highly Sensitive Person and is a term coined by Dr Elaine Aron in the1990s following her study of people with sensory processing sensitivity. It's an innate trait and whilst it can heighten a person's experience of trauma, it is not, as some think, caused by trauma. In this episode we talk through what Dr Aron listed as the main tenets of being a HSP: depth of processing ease of overstimulation emotional responsiveness acute awareness of stimulations empathy As we mention at the end of the podcast, we would LOVE to hear from you so please do get in touch. Melanie shares several tips for enjoying the holidays in this episode. She also highlights some of the common holiday happiness traps that can cause folks a lot of sorrow, resentment and anger.   As she says, “while almost everyone has fantastical dreams of perfect holidays that go all the way back before we were able to talk and encode explicit memories, almost as many of us are stressed, overwhelmed, sad or depressed, and can even become bitterly disappointed … every holiday season.”   There's a lot of good news, though! When you slow down and mindfully manage your holidays, you'll feel a lot better. And your beloveds will, too. (If they don't? They're not really beloveds, are they?)   Melanie also offers the latest neuroscience research findings to help you feel more ease-full and peaceful this year.   Her first tip? Don't give away your ability to choose how and with whom you spend your time. As she says, “You don't have to keep giving yourself, or your very precious time, or your emotional health and wellbeing away to ideas about how it's supposed to be, or to people who cannot see you, respect you and offer you, at the very least, kindness.   “You don't have to choose to keep on doin' the holidays the same old ways it's always been done.   “We're living in a new world. And to the extent we can accept that, even surrender to the new reality, then we've given ourselves some sacred space to begin building new rituals and ceremonies and traditions.”   Can you give yourself some sacred space and create new rituals and ceremonies and traditions that are in alignment with who you are and what you need?   As usual, Melanie doesn't shy away from talking about the difficult things that most of us would rather not think about. Things like toxic families, grieving your losses during this supposedly “HappyHappy” time, and how to navigate the season as an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person).   And she also shares that a couple of the creative ideas that showed up surprised her, including her favorite, which she's calling The Soup Circle!   She ends the show with a few poems to help sooth your nervous system and calm your weary mind, including this one entitled The Shortest Day, by Susan Cooper:   So the shortest day came, and the year died, And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world Came people singing, dancing, To drive the dark away. They lighted candles in the winter trees; They hung their homes with evergreen; They burned beseeching fires all night long To keep the year alive, And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake They shouted, reveling. Through all the frosty ages you can hear them Echoing behind us—Listen!! All the long echoes sing the same delight, This shortest day, As promise wakens in the sleeping land: They carol, feast, give thanks, And dearly love their friends, And hope for peace. And so do we, here, now, This year and every year. Welcome Yule!   More about Dr. Melanie Harth here: https://thesantafetherapist.com/about-santa-fe-therapist/

We can choose how we view the adversity and challenges in our life and see them as tools that shaped us into who we were meant to be. It is essential to work through the pain and suffering in our lives by reaching out for help and not burying or numbing the pain through various vices. Once we have done the proper work through our healing journey, we can come out on the other side with a sense of gratitude for the painful and sometimes tragic experiences we have gone through. Today's guest is on a mission to end self-inflicted mental suffering because she knows what it is like to attempt to bury the pain and shame through addictions and negative behaviors that feed into prolonging our pain.Monica Burke is an entrepreneur, real estate expert, and author of her new book, “Power On: Using What's Meant to Destroy You to Create You.” Having grown up in a family of addicts and experiencing the tragic loss of her father when she was a child, Monica learned to take the building blocks of suffering, pain, abuse, grief, and abandonment to create life-changing and mindset-shifting habits. She believes that inside our deepest suffering lies our greatest strengths, and that is what you can expect from both this episode and her book.In this episode, Monica strives to teach others to shortcut their pain and the learning curve to living a better life. She offers advice to learn to silence every voice except your own and search for the truth within yourself. She also teaches how to get the truth from others, and why it is so important to “ride the emotional wave” and know that decisions and actions don't need to be immediate. No response is a response, and making decisions when emotions are high is not aligned with our highest self. Tune in to learn how to stop beating yourself up and use your pain to elevate you to your true potential.Key highlights:Monica's background and childhood growing up around addiction, losing her father, and having a strict upbringingA story of a teacher that recognized Monica's worth and changed her lifeMonica's story of assault and absorbing the shame that came with itThe core belief that kept her pushing through the painBeing an HSP: Highly Sensitive Person - and why she felt she needed to numb herselfMaking the conscious choice to view our situation differentlyHow to quiet every voice but your ownHow to get to the truth from yourself and othersMonica's mantra of accepting herself and others for who they areReleasing the idea that you need to get along with everyone Being okay with being wrongMonica's advice to “ride the emotional wave” and what that looks likeConnect with Monica Burke:Facebook: Monica BurkeInstagram: @monica_burke_poweronTikTok: @monicaburkepoweronGet her new book: “Power On: Using What's Meant to Destroy You to Create You”Connect with Alison:Instagram: @alisonanswers | @lagercounselingWebsite: LagerCounseling.comYouTube: Alison AnswersFacebook: Alison Lager Lcsw Casac

Discovering I am a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) has been a big part of my healing journey and Willow McIntosh has played a big part in the uncovering of my HSP gifts. I invited Willow onto the podcast because I wanted him to share his expertise in this area with you. As HSPs, discovering and understanding our sensitivity helps us to find happiness and bring meaning to our life. That has definitely been my experience. There can be negative connotations around sensitivity but it doesn't have to be like that. HSPs have great gifts to bring to the world and Willow and I hope to inspire you to not get caught in your own soup and to embrace your gifts. Even if you are not a HSP, you may have family and friends who are HSPs and also as non-HSPs I think you will get something from this conversation. You'll hear how much I got from it as you listen and I hope you do too. To be an HSP, or a highly sensitive person means someone has a heightened sensitivity to physical, emotional, or social stimuli and being a highly sensitive person can come with many challenges. In today's episode, Certified Professional Coach, Sarah Koestner shares what it means to be HSP, what unique HSP attributes are, as well as how HSPs can work through their anxiety.  Our culture does not necessarily cater to HSPs so this refreshing conversation with Sarah includes tips and techniques that can help HSPs develop their voice so they can connect with themselves and feel more confident about who they are.

On today's episode, I speak with yet another person I find truly fascinating, Jessica Sueiro. Jessica and her husband, Will, along with their two children, Avalon and Largo, are world traveling, homeschooling, bohemian vagabonds in the best possible way. They have an amazing YouTube channel called World Towning, where they document their full-time travel family adventures and share their passion for dreaming big. Jessica joins me from a boat in Majorca to discuss her family's decision to leave their Boston 2013 in favor of trekking around the world together, how they have thrived throughout their traveling adventures, and the experience of managing homeschool in the process. Jessica talks about overcoming the fear of screwing up your kids or being judged by others to step out of the box and follow your own path. She shares how her family maintains a sense of stability, routine, and deep connection as world travelers, how her children have navigated their social needs through this experience, and her thoughts on minimalism. We chat about the delicate balance of transitioning grandparents away from giving stuff in favor of experiences, and I ask Jessica how she handles being with her kids all day long as a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). Finally, we discuss the importance of community and asking for help, how traveling makes you a better, more humble person, and Jessica offers her best advice for listeners who are considering a major life change or transition from the norm. For more information about the Sueiro family and their traveling lifestyle, visit WorldTowningVoyages.com or check out their YouTube Channel, which features new videos every Friday. Thank you for your listening! I appreciate your patronage more than I can say. For more information on my potty training and parenting resources, please visit the links below. The Finer Details of This Episode: Jessica and her husband, Will, always wanted to travel with their kids but didn't think it was possible A summer trip to Paris sparked their interest in international travel They realized they all thrived in their travelling adventures and decided to make it happen on their own They wanted to instill a global education for their children, have more time together,  forge a tighter bond as a family, and create memories over buying stuff Most people have a fear of stepping out of the box - accepting that we will f-ck up our kids no matter where we are gives us the freedom to take that leap It took them seven years to finally decide to change their lives - they are planners and it was not an impulsive decision They have a travel-based business, which works for their lifestyle They have maintained a sense of rhythm and routine as travelers by reading at night, eating dinner together, and having consistency as a family Home is in the heart, not the house you're living in They have an ‘open-door policy' where you can always interrupt if you have a question or need emotional support They have always prioritized their children's social components through the homeschooling experience, which has been challenging during the pandemic Her daughter started her own book club, to help meet social needs and connect with friends Listen to your kids' interests, create what you need, and be open-minded about the way kids make friends today Jessica shares how their travels informed a minimalist lifestyle - she is a minimalist by nature For the first three years, they left with eight bags and eight carry-ons, and lived in different countries for nine to twelve months at a time They traveled from Costa Rica to Ecuador to France, then they moved to an RV Their policy was if something came in, something went out Focus is on experiences over stuff Grandparents traditionally show their love through gifts and toys, but Jessica and Will have really tried to transition grandparents to giving experiences instead Grandparents get joy out of watching kids open presents, but Jessica and Will try to bring the focus back to experiences that will give the child joy instead Jessica is a self-proclaimed HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) Being with her kids all day long while also working is all she's ever known and it doesn't bother her They have done the work to create the life they want The importance of community and asking for help Traveling makes you a better person because it's humbling and you become so appreciative If you're looking to make a major transition or change in your life, remember that as a parent, you are tough The worst that can happen is you go back to where you started, but you will have learned and grown so much along the way   Quotes “Will and I had always wanted to travel with the kids. But we were responsible career people. And we had no idea that you could just do this on your own.” “We came out of the summer going, Wow, that was a pretty cool summer. Our kids thrived, our relationship thrived, you're able to work and adventure and parent and do all this kind of stuff. At the same time we realized, Hey, I could probably do this on our own. So why don't we try and do this?” “We wanted to do it for global education for our kids, more family time, tighter bond as a family, and also to be creating memories over buying stuff. And so that's kind of the basis of why we did it.” “The first thing we all need to realize is we're all going to f-ck up our kids. So it doesn't really matter where we are and where we are in the world… Inevitably, if I stay right here, I'm going to do something wrong. And if I go over here, I'm going to do something wrong, too. So why wouldn't you just take that leap?” “Stepping outside of what is normal, it's difficult. There's a lot of criticism, everyone has an opinion, people are going to tell you you're screwing up your life, your career, their American dream that they have for your children. Grandparents, friends - everyone has an opinion. So I think that that's a natural and normal fear. Absolutely hands down. We've definitely had it. But fear is part of life.” “It took us seven years because we were raised in a society and in families where the responsible thing to do was have this career, have the house, follow this path.” “For well over a decade, that was one of our things that connected us as a family, was the reading. We've always had dinner together wherever we are in the world.” “Often our backdrop is ever-changing, our timezone is changing, the language we're navigating is changing, the currency might be changing, but the consistency we keep within our family is always there.” “People will say, Well, there's no stability in the way that you're living your life. And you don't have a home. I'm like, We have a home - we just don't always have a house we put it in. The stability is in these traditions and these rituals that we create as a family to connect us deeper.”  “I found that those times where they can come and know that you're accessible has been really, really helpful for them to have that connection with us.” “Let's talk pandemic and pre-pandemic. The pandemic's been incredibly difficult for them. How we normally navigated social has been thrown out the window.” “It's really important, as well as difficult, for our generation to change our thought process on how kids make friends and how they maintain them. And like you said, we have to contribute to that.” “If you want to choose this different path, it's going to be more work.” “When we left the United States, we left with eight bags, and eight carry-ons. So you get two free checked bags and two carry-ons per person… We left with what seemed like very little, but it's so massive now. We lived in places for nine to twelve months at a time.” “Everybody who listens to me, tries to ask the grandparents for experiences. But the grandparents want the joy of the opening of the present.” “If you ask them why they're buying all this plastic sh-t, and whatever, it brings them joy to do it. But isn't the idea to bring the kid joy?” “Traveling, I always say - it makes you a better person. Because you become so appreciative.” “It's very, very, very humbling to have that assistance and to learn that we all need help.” “If you're looking to transition your life and you're unhappy in your life, like you're saying, go out and find that other life, find that community.” “We need to look at self-care as well as lifestyle choices - just do it. Just make the choice to do it, and then set a date and do it.”   Links: Jamie's Homepage -  http://www.jamieglowacki.com/ Oh Crap! I believe that finding the truest version of ourselves (or versions as we can all adopt variations of our true self depending on the situation - there will always be the same core elements of us in all these version) is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. In this episode I'm talking about how I found the truest version of myself (so far - the journey continues) after I came to terms with my childhood trauma, growing up as a COA (Child of An Alcoholic) and understanding how my wounded inner child was driving my adult behaviour. It has been quite a ride over the last 5 years. I talk about the two people who have inspired me in my liberation of this truer version of myself and helped me embrace that I am a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). I am not too sensitive. I process information deeply. Learning to calm my nervous system helps me avoid the severe overwhelm I frequently experienced before I embraced my sensitivity super power. This episode is mainly about these two amazing people and the challenges they face daily. I don't want to spoil the surprise of who these people are! How to know if you're an Empath and what to do about it! No one wants to absorb all the energy from others and the outside world. It's draining as FUCK. And Why would you do that to yourself, not healthy...HSP- Highly Sensitive Person to sound, touch, sensations, energy, etc.Ive been told and I know its a true statement that I’m “Delicate like a flower” Pure sarcasm because of almost the complete opposite. I tell people hat they need to hear not necessarily what they want to hear. Theres no point in sugar coating, to soften the blow. Brash and direct personality, but on the contrary, Ive very sensitive, sometimes I can’t handle loud noises and crowds because I absorb all that shit. And I have to remove myself from the space. As extroverted as I am, I still need peace and quiet to recharge my internal batteries and maybe you are the same way. Here's how to tell!Empathy- take on others emotions and feelings as if they were our ownvs sympathy - feeling sorrow for someones elseDo you have a hard time not caringNot like crowded placesPeople tell you their problemsGood intuition, wonderful gift, sense of just knowingLie detectorvibe in the roomunderstand where people are coming from- subjective POVcalming effectChallenges- getting stuck on thoughts and internalizing themThe answer is Setting boundaries- It's okay to say NO to protect your own energy! How To SHIELD Yourself As An EMPATH Or A HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) . #shieldyourenergy #empath #HSP . Hey what's up you guys! In this video - How To SHIELD Yourself As An EMPATH Or A HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). Many of us are realizing that we are empaths otherwise known as highly sensitive people, or highly sensitive to energy. I always say that being an empath is a gift of awareness however this can be overwhelming for some people that are new to the idea, or those that are expanding their awareness or gifts might not know how to go about this in a way that is safe or comfortable for them. As a HSP (highly sensitive person) or an empath, you are very susceptible to other people's energy. As I said before this is a gift of awareness, and many spiritual healers are also empaths. Though on your early journey and spiritual awakening it helps to have guidance on the matter. Empaths are the ones who are always sticking their heart and neck out for others, because we can feel them on deeper levels. I say we because I am also an empath that has learned how to develop my abilities and gifts so I am speaking from experience. We (empaths) are the ones that can understand others on a deep and emotional level, and will try to help someone in any way that we can even if that means putting them above ourselves and thus hurting ourselves in the process. That's why in this video I'm sharing six powerful ways that I have found to shield or protect your energy as a HSP (highly sensitive person) or AKA an empath. Don't worry, you will still be able to help others with the huge heart that you have. These tips are meant to show you how to keep your own energy levels high, and not get drained out while being the empathetic person that you naturally are. These are six powerful ways to protect your energy, shield your energy field or aura, all while continuing to be the HSP or empath that you know you are. Follow these six tips and tricks and you can continue being yourself and expand into who you are meant to be while not getting your energy drained anymore. As a matter of fact, these tips will help you to generate more energy. ENJOY! . . . Guided Meditations With Christopher - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLERhVnft9fXspZUXkzFRQJxN0mby8ooVU . Focusing on any type of negative thought pattern doesn't serve you and it spends all of your energy. Listen and discover why the 1 hour that you spend in the gym is much less impactful than the 23 hours that you dedicate to lifestyle, stress management, nutrition, supplementation, time management, and recovery. The 5x2 Method Click here to get your copy of The 5x2 Method Did you know you use at least one of your five senses every moment of the day, even when you are asleep? Each sense has its own special power, but it is when they are used in combination that we create those unforgettable experiences. We all have a set of daily habits that tend to dull our senses and encourage us to lead a pretty basic life of existence. We often find ourselves in the vicious cycle of wake up, repeat and go to sleep. Chirs DiVecchio developed the 5x2 method to help wake those senses back up and create a whole new way of thinking, acting, being and doing so that you can start living the life of happiness you deserve! As we know, the five senses are controlled by five organs: Touch - Touch has a memory Sound - Music to your ears Taste - Taste the rainbow Sight - The windows to the soul Smell - Stop and smell the roses In this book, Chris breaks each sense down in detail to help you understand a bit more how they can be used to shift you into a more positive state of being.   "Having control over how I look, feel, and take care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually costs me nothing. I don't have to pay a cent to register, process, and choose my thoughts and feelings." - Chris DiVecchio  Listen To Episode 266 As Chris DiVecchio Uncovers: What his upbringing was like with such loving parents that he sought out "tough" guidance from his friends' parents. The varying degrees of trauma that people might experience from neglect to no support from their family. Why there's nothing better to him than to make a living to make a difference. How he was able to find general peace and happiness throughout each day with the 5x2 Method even though he wasn't making a lot of money as an actor. Which of the 5x2 Methods help people the most go from doing nothing to creating something. The healing process that the current fitness industry is going through to focus more on wellness. Why he gives his clients a Giving Key necklace as part of working with him on their wellness journey. The deep questions he asks clients to really know who he's working with at their core. The common fear of taking a photo at the start of a weight loss transition and why we shouldn't feel that way. Why we naturally want to deal with what we need to focus on when the stakes are higher. Why losing weight will never be the end of our wellness journey. How to approach working with a new client when they're currently a client of another personal trainer you know. Why you have to be a greater listener to be a great trainer. What lessons we can learn when we pay more attention to something and see all of its benefits and worth. His unique connection to animals throughout his life and how they inspired the 5x2 Method. The biggest lesson that he's learning and teaching at the same time. How he implements his spiritual side to his training and helps his clients do the same. Why he doesn't believe in "good vibes only" with his optimistic outlook and will do the inner work with his deeper emotions. Why being given too much love as a kid was a problem for him as he grew up into adulthood and explored different relationships. About his other program, The E7 (Emergency 7), which is a 7-day protocol to help people naturally drop weight by their target date for a specific event such as a wedding. Power Quotes From The Show "If you feel good emotionally, then 9 times out of 10, your body is going to match that." - Chris DiVecchio "The growing fitness trend of using performance-enhancing supplements has its place but the healing process is really what people are focusing on now. Our main concern today is caring about how we feel rather than how we look. That's where the world of fitness and wellness is going. We're now realizing that if you feel good, then 9/10 times your body is going to match that vibration." - Chris DiVecchio "I had to put in an insane amount of trust that I was doing the right thing and I was in the right space. For me to freak out, panic, or to buy into any type of negative thought pattern I have right now, it's just not going to serve me. If I have control over how I look, feel, and take care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, then I have to do that at least. That costs me nothing; I don't have to pay a cent to register, process, and choose my thoughts and feelings." - Chris DiVecchio "Taking inventory is important in order to look back and reflect on your lifestyle situations, habits, or traumas. Being able to learn from past experiences and dissect some of the emotional turmoil that you've been through without allowing yourself to get stuck in it is a skill. A lot of people don't get as deep in their past to clear house is because they're afraid of what they might see along that journey." - Chris DiVecchio "Forget about discipline; discipline doesn't mean anything. What we actually need to do right now is care. The people who are at the top of their game in optimal health and wellness are those who care enough about themselves and care enough about their bodies to focus on what contributes to a healthy looking vessel." - Chris DiVecchio   Links From Today's Show Chris DiVecchio Facebook Instagram Twitter Premier Mind & Body Facebook Twitter The 5x2 Method Emergency7 Man loses 70 pounds after his poker buddies bet him $1M that he couldn't TED Talk with Joshua Klein: A thought experiment on the intelligence of crows In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts with Dr. Gabor Mate The 5 Love Languages The Giving Keys Shawn Stevenson WFR 058 Rob Dionne WFR 242 Aaron Hinde About Chris DiVecchio Chris DiVecchio, Founder & Trainer, brings a wealth of self-development transformation mixed with a very practical technique to his fitness training. This is my little rant about how empaths take on others' stories and pain and find it so hard to move on from it. In this podcast I talk about some of the ways I have taught myself to think about and deal with some of the more extreme expressions of sadness/injustive/unfairness I have seen in the world - especially navigating the world as an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) and Empath. I hope it sparks some potent conversations on your own dinner tables, and personal conversations with friends. From one intuitive empath to another, Rhi

Episode 28- Are you (or someone you know) highly intuitive, always physically uncomfortable and emotionally overwhelmed? You could be a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), and be in good company. Jenna talks about her own experiences as a HSP, and Amber discusses discovering this quality in her child. The most psychic and intuitively advanced empaths are HSPs, but it is also a challenge to feel things so deeply in a dark and troubled world. How can we help and better understand ourselves, our children, our friends and family who fall under the category of Highly Sensitive Person?

Artist and Author, Peter Messerschmidt talks about his creative path with Alchemy Stones, "I started drawing patterns when I was very small, maybe five or six years old. I would see stars, snowflakes and other natural patterns inside my head and would then try to draw them. As I grew older, the patterns grew more complex. I was maybe nine or ten when my first crude attempts at free-hand geometric patterns saw the light of day. By the time I was thirteen, they had become fairly complex. I would draw them on paper with the finest point black marker I could get my hands on, and then give them to my mother to use as bookmarks, in her vast collection of cookbooks. For the past 30+ years, I have added small versions of these intricate designs to greeting cards, envelopes and letters; sometimes they have just "appeared," during quiet moments ..." Peter Messerschmidt is a 55-year old Danish national, now living in Port Townsend, Washington, in the US Pacific Northwest. He was born and raised in Denmark, but also lived in Spain, the UK and about a dozen other places before coming to the US to attend University in 1981. Here in the US, his time has primarily been spent in/around the Austin, Texas area as well as Dallas, Phoenix, Portland, OR and most recently Port Townsend, since 2006. This week we're focusing on all of you who might see yourself or someone you love as being a HSP - or highly sensitive person. Given that 15 to 20% of the population is thought to “have” it – and I say that in quotes because it's not something you have, it's something you are - it's not an illness or a problem. It's a personality trait. It characterizes you. It's what people might say about you when they're trying to describe you. Like he's stubborn or she's persistent. They might say, “She gets things before many people do.”I'll read the messages and questions that several people had in contacting me, and will do my best to answer. We'll cover the gifts of being highly sensitive, but also some of the struggles inherent within it. But also this episode will have lots of great information for you – one link is a self-test for HSP researched and designed by the psychologist who coined the term HSP, Dr. Elaine Aron.Vital Links: Dr. Elaine Aron's website where you can find the free self-tests!Dr. Judith Orloff's website and her books on empathy Dr. Caroline Leaf's interview with Dr. Aron and tips and techniques to cope with itRecent study comparing those who are HSP and those signaling they "have" HSPAdvertiser's Link: Click HERE for the NEW fabulous offer from AG1 – with bonus product with your subscription! You can hear more about this and many other topics by listening to my podcast, SelfWork with Dr. Margaret Rutherford. Subscribe to my website and receive my weekly newsletter including a blog post and podcast!
