However there are places on Earth that could be considered hell – no not Detroit or Wichita. We're talking about actual places that look like the entrances to purgatory. And perhaps they really are. When Mary Reeser was reduced to ashes in her favorite recliner with no sign of fire spreading beyond her body, investigators were left with an unsettling question—was this a tragic accident, or proof of spontaneous human combustion?IN THIS EPISODE: When police found her in 1951, she was almost entirely ash. But mysteriously, the rest of her apartment remained almost perfectly intact. We'll look at the death of Mary Reeser – which became known as “The Cinder Woman Case”. We have, of course, seen numerous recreations of the creature since the original Universal film, but still, the image is grotesque and frightening no matter the incarnation. To see a mummy in real-life is that much more shocking. But real fear… real terror… would be if you yourself were to be mummified… while still alive.
