In this jam-packed episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank and Thomas review Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 5 and 6. The duo dives into the show's shift from classic "villain of the week" storytelling to its high-stakes narrative arc, breaking down standout performances, hidden MCU connections, and an unforgettable rooftop showdown with Muse. They discuss the return of fan-favorite characters like Swordsman, the rising threat of the vigilante task force, and Kingpin's brutal transformation. From deep-cut comic references to cinematic sound design, this is peak Marvel television—and we're here for it. MCU connectivity is on full display with the return of Swordsman and nods to Kamala Khan, making the world feel more alive. Episode 6 raises the stakes with a deeper look into Kingpin's power grab and the introduction of the vigilante task force. Muse is an intense, terrifying villain with eerie presence and a comic-accurate brutality. Daredevil's enhanced abilities are showcased brilliantly through sound design and visual storytelling. Faith continues to ground Matt Murdock's character, adding emotional depth to his choices. Fisk is on a collision course with total corruption—mirroring his comic book roots as Kingpin. Visual and auditory cues are used to elevate both action and emotional beats in the series. Quotes: “It felt like a villain-of-the-week episode in the best way—just like those 90s shows we loved.” – Frank “They finally made the world feel alive again. You never know which hero or villain is going to pop up next.” – Thomas “Daredevil isn't surviving despite being blind. He's thriving because of it.” – Frank “The pressure is building inside Fisk—and now it's bursting at the seams.” – Thomas “This is Marvel TV at its best.” – Frank Call to Action: Love what you heard? CHADWICK BOSEMAN: PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST is a 21-minute documentary about the late actor's dedication to his craft. It compiles interviews from past co-stars, producers and directors. This past weekend, Three Cranes Grove, ADF, took our first steps toward reopening our public ritual practice: we conducted a small, semi-private hybrid ritual, where folks attended in person (masked and socially distanced) and remotely. On their way out to our Cutios (Rain Moon) ritual, Revs. Avende and Dangler discussed their preparations, and the basics of the setup for the ritual, along with what they hoped it would be like. Then, on the way back, they looked a bit critically at what worked, and what they found most interesting about the format after being away from public ritual for so long. Intercut into this episode are a few audio examples of how the rite sounded (an artifact of the recording process), which will let you hear how the priests worked in (and how the folk responded to) the immediate pandemic experience that was at the top of their minds. Our hope, as a Grove, is that as other pagan groups reopen (locally and distantly), some of our experiences might serve to help them build a plan to serve their communities in a safe, careful manner. Find us on Facebook, check our our Grove at threecranes.org, and learn more about Druidry at adf.org. We can't wait to see you again soon.

“Music is mystical. At the beginning, you don’t even know why. You just feel. Then you hit a point when you forget that feeling and you have to meet it again.“Rodrigo SánchezIt’s one thing to be an artist. But to become a successful creative — revered for your art — is quite another thing altogether.Even more rare are the few who deftly navigate the vicissitudes of an acclaimed artistic career (or any career for that matter), with a highly conscious, devotional approach.Musicians Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero – popularly known as the Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela — are not only incredible masters of their craft, they fully embody this ethos. It's a sensibility that has carried them from obscurity in Mexico. To busking on Grafton Street in Dublin. And ultimately to playing premier sold out venues all across the globe.Along the way, Rod & Gab have performed at the White House for the Obamas. They've collaborated on film scores with world renowned composers like Hans Zimmer. And lent their talents to television shows like Breaking Bad — all while staying true to themselves and their utterly unique Metallica meets Flamenco artistic sensibility. For those unfamiliar with this dynamic duo, prepare to be amazed.I had the good fortune to witness them perform live at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles the night before this conversation. Unlike anything I had previously seen or heard, it was a transcendent experience that defies attempts to adequately describe.Fortunately, I don't have to. Today, in addition to the quality conversations you've come to expect with this show, we expand the format to weave a mini-concert into the experience — a rare treat certain to delight.Beyond the acoustic wall of sound, this is a conversation about a creative spark that began with heavy metal roots in Mexico City. It's about how busking on the streets of Dublin led to a huge break. And the extraordinary career that followed. We discuss the influences and evolution of Rod and Gab's unique style. The importance of mastery in their musicianship and personal lives. And we explore the role meditation, spirituality and veganism has played in their self and career development.Gab and Rod call it Mettavolution.Intercut with live performance, along the way they share amazing stories. What it was like playing Letterman. Performing for the Obamas. And working on big Hollywood films like Pirates of the Caribbean.Lastly, this is an episode you're going to want to watch on YouTube. It's one thing to hear Rod & Gab perform. But it's another thing altogether to observe their mastery in motion. To bear witness, visit bit.ly/rodrigoygabriela477I’m in love with these two. I'm super excited to share their unique gifts with you today. And I sincerely hope you enjoy this experimental twist on my typical format.Peace + Plants,Listen, Watch & SubscribeApple Podcasts | YouTube | Spotify | Stitcher | Google PodcastsThanks to this week’s sponsorsNative: Safe, See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Life is unpredictable, and if you've ever read Katherine Paterson's popular children's book, Bridge to Terabithia, you may still feel a lingering grief from this tragically beautiful tale. On today's show, Lindsay talks to Katherine Paterson about the book's creation and its lasting effect on readers. Katherine walks us through the shockingly true and emotional story behind this story. Authors Laurel Snyder (Orphan Island) and Margaret Peterson Haddix (The Greystone Secrets) will discuss what the book means to them, personally and professionally, and how they've brought their own personal experiences into their stories. They'll also talk about the importance of reading books that scare you, no matter your age. Intercut with audio excerpts from the book, this episode will take you on an emotional journey through a book's important history, its cultural impact, and how we cope with life's great big unknowns. In our last episode Mindy and I covered the history of Hammer Film Productions and their evolution from B-movie studio to champions of cult horror. We followed Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee's beginning's in their groundbreaking roles as Victor Frankenstein & his creature, and Van Helsing & Dracula. In part two of the monsters of Hammer two we'll be rounding out with 1958's The Revenge of Frankenstein, 1959's The Mummy, 1960's The Brides of Dracula, and finally Oliver Reed's Curse of the Werewolf from 1961. Intercut will be moments from a conversation with Mindy's dad, Mark Learnard—who was a guest on our Universal Monsters installment (which was episode 2), and in our Real Life Horror episode spoke about his background as a probation officer dealing with sex offenders and the darker elements of society.
In our first-annual STAPLE Special, we dive into some of our mutual comfort foods: autobiographical and otherwise-great indie comics. Intercut throughout are interviews with an all-star, all-woman super-team lineup of comics creators.
