About "True Justice: Family Ties" This movie was directed by Jonathan Wright. He is no stranger to Hallmark having directed “A Not So Royal Christmas” from the 2023 Countdown to Christmas line up. He also directed “Family History Mysteries: Buried Secrets” last year as well as “The Royal Nanny” and “Jolly Good Christmas” in 2022.   Related: Girls Gone Hallmark loved “Family History Mysteries: Buried Secrets” - listen to the review here. We last saw Katherine in “Love, Classified” from 2022. She has 70 acting credits including tons of episodes on the following the series: “Walker: Independence,” “Arrow” and “Shadowhunters.” Her resume is long and varied, and it's nice to see her back on Hallmark. Related: "Love, Classified" makes Girls Gone Hallmark top 5 movie list for 2022. Markian Tarasiuk plays Eli Flint. Something about a dude in a cardigan, hello wowie-zowie. We've seen Markian in previous Hallmark projects like “Welcome to Valentine,” “Christmas at the Golden Dragon,” and “Our Italian Christmas Memories.” And grab your bingo cards… He was also in 2 episodes of “Virgin River.” Marisa McIntyre plays Sarah. This appears to be Marisa's second project for Hallmark having previously appeared in “Never Too Late to Celebrate” from 2022.  Sabrina Saudin plays PJ. About "Sealed with a List" This movie premiered on Saturday, December 16th as part of the Countdown to Christmas closing weekend. “Sealed with a List” was filmed in and around New Westminster, BC. Some scenes were also filmed in Langley at Martini Town, a set owned by Martini Film Studios. Emily Ting and Melynda Bissmeyer, along with Robin Gadsby are the writers on this film. Emily and Melynda had previously worked together on “Christmas at the Golden Dragon” in 2022 and Robin wrote “A Christmas Cookie Catastrophe” and “Christmas Sail” - which is a super under rated fave of ours from 2021. Katie Findlay plays Carley. Katie has 30 previous acting credits including “Love Strikes Twice” in 2021 for Hallmark. You might also recognize her from “The Killing” on Netflix - which is an incredible crime thriller if you haven't seen it. Katie was also in 26 episodes of “The Carrie Diaries” which was a SATC prequel, “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” and most recently “Walker: Independence” with fellow Hallmark actor, Katherine McNamara. U Guys, it's a special Holiday edition of the BwayWorld Recap! Then I am joined by my dearest sister-friend, Kat McNamara, to chat about her incredible career which spans from Broadway to TV/Film. Her co-stars included Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as Elaine Stritch and Bernadette Peters. Kat shares her experience making her debut alongside some of Broadway's biggest stars, and how she learned from each of these incredible women. We spoke with Katie Findlay, who currently stars on The CW's Walker Independence. Fans were disappointed when the network decided not to renew the show for a second season. So, while the show remains in limbo with hopes of finding a home somewhere else, we spoke with Katie about her history in the industry, why she loved working on the show so much, and what her hopes are moving forward. Katie was one of the nicest people I have ever spoken to and I felt so comfortable speaking with her that we could have a deep and honest conversation that was extremely refreshing. So I hope the show finds a home, but if not I am sure we will be seeing Katie on another great project soon. = Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Shamindri De Sayrah Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Set in the late 1800s, an origin story of "Walker," "Walker Independence" follows Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. Abby arrives in Independence, Texas, where she encounters diverse and eclectic residents running from their pasts, chasing their dreams, and keeping their secrets. Abby runs into Hoyt Rawlins, a slippery rogue, thief, and con artist with a dented heart of gold who quickly eyes Abby as a mark until she turns the tables on him. In seeking justice for her husband, Abby and Hoyt soon find themselves precariously aligned, both seeking to uncover the truth about the identity of Abby's husband's killer, and vow to save Independence -- a frontier boomtown where nothing is what it seems. *All episodes of Walker Independence are available to stream for free on The CW app. Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @SilenceonSet and Instagram @SilenceonSetPod

The CW Is Shifting Away From Superhero Shows

Geek Freaks Headlines

The CW network is undergoing a significant transformation in its programming lineup, with a notable rollback of its superhero shows that have been a staple for over a decade. During the network's Upfront presentation, Brad Schwartz, The CW's entertainment president, outlined the vision for the future of programming, highlighting a shift away from the superhero genre that helped build the Arrowverse and other series like “Riverdale” and the Nancy Drew reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwartz acknowledged that while these shows had been the hallmarks of The CW for a long time, they are no longer resonating with the network's linear viewership. He attributed this change to the fact that the young adult audience no longer makes appointments to watch broadcast television. In an effort to attract a broader audience and increase profitability, The CW aims to go bigger and appeal to older viewers. The move is part of a broader strategy to meet the profit goal set by The CW's new owner, Nexstar Media Group. Nexstar primarily owns local TV stations across the country. Interestingly, Tom Carter, Nexstar's president and chief operating officer, shared in a conference call last August that the average age of the CW broadcast viewer is 58 years, as reported by TV Line. This revelation came just before the network's acquisition by Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, both of which retain minority stakes in The CW. In the first half of 2022, several shows met an abrupt end, including “Legacies,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman,” the Charmed reboot, and “Dynasty.” Additionally, “Kung Fu,” the Supernatural prequel “The Winchesters,” and “Walker Independence” were also canceled ahead of the May 18 announcement. Last year, it was announced that both “The Flash” and “Riverdale” would conclude with their upcoming final seasons. The fates of “Gotham Knights,” “Superman & Lois,” and “All American: Homecoming” are still uncertain. Schwartz indicated that decisions regarding these shows would come “soon” as the respective companies analyze the costs of producing these “expensive” programs. “We have to be entrepreneurial in the way we look at content,” stated Schwartz. “We can't write a per-episode $10 million check for a show with dragons.” Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Schwartz unveiled upcoming co-productions, including “Joan,” a series starring Sophie Turner as an infamous jewel thief. He also mentioned “The Librarians: The Next Chapter,” a spinoff of the TNT drama, as well as the acquisition of “The Swarm,” a German eco-sci-fi series, and “Sullivan's Crossing,” a Canadian medical drama based on books written by Robyn Carr and starring Chad Michael Murray. Schwartz also expressed excitement about unscripted acquisitions, such as the Max castoff “FBoy Island.” He believes that a bold and impactful unscripted show like “FBoy Island” has the potential to break through and captivate audiences.

ABC had a relatively modest number of cancellations this season. “Alaska Daily,” “Avalon,” “Big Sky,” “The Company You Keep,” and “The Goldbergs” all got the ax. “A Million Little Things” ended its multi-season run. In terms of renewals, “Abbott Elementary,” “American Idol,” “The Bachelor,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Claim to Fame,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “The Good Doctor,” “Grey's Anatomy,” “Press Your Luck,” “The Rookie,” “Station 19,” “Will Trent,” and “The Wonder Years” are all coming back. CBS was busy renewing its shows this season, with many getting the green light. Among those renewed are “48 Hours,” “60 Minutes,” “The Amazing Race,” “Blue Bloods,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “CSI: Vegas,” “The Equalizer,” “FBI,” “FBI: International,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “Fire Country,” “Ghosts,” “Lingo,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Hawaii,” “The Neighborhood,” “So Help Me Todd,” “Survivor,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Tough as Nails,” and “Young Sheldon.” “East New York” and “True Lies” were canceled, while “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended its run. Over at The CW, “Kung Fu,” “Tom Swift,” “Walker: Independence,” and “The Winchesters” were canceled, while “The Flash,” “Nancy Drew,” “Riverdale,” and “DC's Stargirl” all had their final season orders. “All American” and “Walker” were renewed, while “All American: Homecoming,” “Gotham Knights,” and “Superman & Lois” are still waiting to hear if they will return. Fox canceled “Call Me Kat,” “Fantasy Island,” and “Monarch,” while “9-1-1” moved over to ABC for its seventh season. “The Cleaning Lady,” “The Great North,” “HouseBroken,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and “Welcome to Flatch” are all waiting to hear their fate. “9-1-1: Lone Star,” “Accused,” “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” “Animal Control,” “Bob's Burgers,” “Family Guy,” “Grimsburg,” “Krapopolis,” and “The Simpsons” were all renewed. NBC had a mix of cancellations and renewals, with “Call Your Mother,” “Debris,” “Good Girls,” “Law & Order: For the Defense,” “Manifest,” and “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” all getting canceled. “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” “Chicago P.D.,” “La Brea,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Lopez vs. Lopez,” “Magnum P.I.,” “Night Court,” “Password,” “Quantum Leap,” and “The Voice” were all renewed. In conclusion, it's important to stay informed about the TV shows you love, but with the industry shifting toward streaming services, it can be hard to keep up. However, with reliable sources like Entertainment Tonight, viewers can stay on top of whether their favorite shows are canceled or renewed.

Katherine McNamara Interview: Revisiting Shadowhunters, Walker: Independence Canceled

Not only is it a colossal challenge trying to spark a career in film and television, but once you get there, the pressure rarely lets up. How does one manage such non-stop stressors, especially the ones that are entirely out of an artist's control? There's no be-all, end-all answer to that question, but over the years, Katherine McNamara's built up an especially effective and inspiring set of tools and ideas to ensure she'll continue forging forward, and likely inspire others to do the same in the process.McNamara joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to put the spotlight on two recent projects, Charlie Day's feature directorial debut, Fool's Paradise, and her new CW series, Walker: Independence, which sadly was canceled the day after we recorded. Fool's Paradise stars Day as a mute man who's plucked off the street by Ray Liotta's character, a producer desperate to replace an actor who won't come out of his trailer and, it turns out, Day's character looks exactly like this actor. As for Walker: Independence, that one was a prequel series to The CW's Walker starring Jared Padalecki. Set in the 1800s, McNamara headlined as Abby Walker, Padalecki's character's ancestor. Even though The CW did cut the show after just one season, there are reports circulating that it is on the hunt for a new home.Whether Walker: Independence continues on elsewhere or not, there's no doubt McNamara will thrive in front of and eventually behind the lens. During our Collider Ladies Night conversation, we revisited her journey in theater, film, and television including a number of key influences she met along the way who proved pivotal in shaping her outlook on industry operations and what it means to be a strong leader and collaborator on set.Hear all about it on this edition of Collider Ladies Night! We spoke to Katherine McNamara shortly after announcements were made, leaving 'Walker: Independence' in limbo. Not sure if the show will be picked up or not, we went on to discuss the importance of having a show like it on the network, how much change it was doing, and the importance of being able to show a vast range of people coming together despite their differences to work towards a common goal. McNamara and I spoke about a possible Outlander and Walker: Independence crossover (I would love for it to happen, and McNamara is friends with the cast of Outlander, including its male lead, Sam Heughan). We also went over Abby's journey, how Abby could sleep with Tom, my hope that she has at least a one-night stand with Hoyt next season, and of course, where we stand regarding the show moving forward. McNamara is one of the nicest people to talk to; she has become a great friend and spent extra time with me to make sure she answered all of my questions and a rapid-fire of fan questions pulled from Twitter. She is generous, she is gorgeous inside and out, and she is a fantastic person. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a renewal or a pickup somewhere. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Shamindri De Sayrah Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Set in the late 1800s, an origin story of the series "Walker," "Walker Independence" follows Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. Abby arrives in the town of Independence, Texas, where she encounters diverse and eclectic residents running from their pasts, chasing their dreams, and keeping their own secrets. Abby runs into Hoyt Rawlins, a slippery rogue, thief, and con artist with a dented heart of gold who quickly eyes Abby as a mark, until she turns the tables on him. In seeking justice for her husband, Abby and Hoyt soon find themselves precariously aligned, both seeking to uncover the truth about the identity of Abby's husband's killer, and vow to save Independence -- a frontier boomtown where nothing is what it seems. *All episodes of Walker: Independence can be found for free on the CW app to stream or on HBO Max (if you have a subscription) Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @SilenceonSet and Instagram @SilenceonSetPod

We spoke to Justin Johnson Cortez exclusively about all things 'Walker: Independence' and how important having a show that is real and authentic (especially when it comes to diversity, native languages, and wardrobe). Cortez went on to discuss his character, Calian, and how much he evolves over the season from being Abby's friend to ultimately becoming part of the gang trying to take down the "bad guys." Of course we also had to discuss some fun things like his costume, if he took anything from set, and his hair regime (because we are all jealous of the beautiful hair), and the shenaniganson set. Cortez also gave us some insights into some fun happening when the camera was not rolling and what he is looking forward to if the show gets renewed. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Marianna Randazzo Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Set in the late 1800s, an origin story of the series "Walker," "Walker Independence" follows Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. Drake Rodgers took on John Winchester, one of the most famous fathers in television history. The Winchesters is a prequel to the fan-favorite Supernatural which had a few versions of John Winchester over a decade, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan cast as the original. So now that the first season of The Winchesters has ended, Drake sat down with us exclusively to do a deep dive into getting the role, the wardrobe, fun moments on set, behind the scenes details, acting with his cast mates, and a bunch of things he learned from Jensen Ackles (including some entertaining stories). I asked for an update on the latest renewal news and his plans now while the show is on hiatus. Drake even took the time to answer many fan questions from you directly. We also have something fun coming related to The Winchesters, Walker, and Walker Independence (but more to come later, so stay tuned to my social @Monica1236). In the meantime, enjoy! Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: A prequel to the long-running series "Supernatural," "The Winchesters" tells the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester met Mary Campbell and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world. When John returns home from fighting in Vietnam, a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father's past. In his journey, he crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary, who is also searching for answers after the disappearance of her own father. Philemon Chambers plays Deputy Augustus on The CW's Walker: Independence. Chambers (who said I can call him Philly) spoke about the importance of diversity on the show and how it's not being used to further the storyline but exists because it should. We discussed the evolution of Augustus from when we first met him to the epic finale, with Augustus being the one to get that final shot in. Philly is one of the most accessible people to speak to; we found ourselves laughing and connecting personally before hitting the record button. We spoke about life, what we have in common, and our overall experiences. He is so loving and supportive of his cast and is humbled by the position he has been graced with. In addition, we both shared our mutual appreciation of trying to destigmatize mental health. We hope to be able to create a more serious forum in the future where we can discuss it in depth because, as he mentions, 'no one is alone in this.' Regardless, Chambers was one of the brightest lights we have had on the podcast, and his insights into the storyline, his character, his castmates, and ultimately his life are ones that I aspire to bottle up. Hope you enjoy getting to know "Philly" as much as I did. *Walker: Independence is available to stream for free on The CW app.  Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @SilenceonSet and Instagram @SilenceonSetPod

Matt Barr has to be easily one of the nicest people I have ever interviewed. Barr was easy to talk to, engaging, excited, and was like a ray of sunshine on the screen. He bursts with energy when he talks about his characters, bringing them to life in his stories. We began one of his beloved but short-lived characters on One Tree Hill, to my obsession with Valor (I still think it should have gotten renewed), and then finally to one of the best cowboys of all time Hoyt Rawlins. Barr said there is nothing better than playing a cowboy and seeing the changes that have slowly begun happening to Hoyt as the season progresses. We talk about how open he is on camera, his honesty, and why we all love him. He answered everything from the picture that broke the internet to if he knew he was going from Walker to Walker: Independence. He was as charming as ever -- which makes sense because his acting falls nothing shy of perfection. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Set in the late 1800s, “Walker: Independence” is a story of vengeance and retribution, as Bostonian Abby sets out to find and kill the man who murdered her husband on the way to their new life in ramshackle Independence, Texas. *Walker: Independence airs Thursdays on The CW at 9 p.m. Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @SilenceonSet and Instagram @SilenceonSetPod

It is a pleasure to welcome actor and dancer Lawrence Kao to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Born in Hacienda Heights, California, his parents groomed Lawrence to become a pediatrician. However, when his mother forced him to play musical instruments as a kid, his path toward a future in the arts began. He received a bachelor's degree in Theater at the University of California at Irvine. While at the university, he expanded his passion for dance and joined the Kaba Modern dance group. Lawrence and the group found themselves in the national spotlight when they auditioned for the inaugural season of MTV's American Best Dance Crew. Week after week, the group's impeccable choreography impressed judges JC Chasez, Lil Mama, and Shane Sparks, and the audience and Kaba Modern took home third place. After graduating from the University of California at Irvine, Lawrence worked at award-winning theater companies such as the Guthrie Theater, East West Players, South Coast Repertory, and San Diego Repertory. In addition to joining the dance group Kinjaz, Lawrence continued to land roles on several popular television shows such as Hawaii 5-0, Law & Order: SUV, NCIS: Los Angeles & New Orleans, The Originals, and The Walking Dead. Recently, Lawrence Kao was a series regular on Netflix's Wu Assassins, where he portrayed Tommy Wan. He reprised the role in the 2022 original film Fistful of Vengeance. He joined the cast of the CW's latest Walker spin-off: Walker Independence, as Kai. Kai is a newcomer to the town of Independence, looking to restart his life. Actors Katherine McNamara, Katie Findlay, Matt Barr, and Justin Johnson Cortez also star in the show. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lawrence Kao spoke about portraying Tommy Wah in Netflix's Wu Assassins and Fistful of Vengeance, plus teased Walker: Independence fans about Kai's journey during the first season.

Katherine McNamara, plays Abby Walker, on The CW's new hit prequel, Walker: Independence. The prequel was announced after Walker (starring Jared Padalecki) became an instant success. McNamara who is no stranger to playing a bad ass, plays Abby Walker, a survivor who is determined to keep moving forward after her husband gets murdered in front of her eyes. Walker ends up in Independence, Texas in search of justice and comes across all sorts of fun characters. McNamara said she had so much fun playing Abby Walker and working on developing her story and getting into the details of her character. She had fun in the period clothing (which she said is a mix of vintage and hand made items), as well as, working with Matt Barr (Hoyt Rawlins). McNamera said its quite a ride that Abby is going to go through this season but is proud of what she has accomplished so far. So lots of chaos ahead! Also for all those Outlander fans, McNamera does discuss not only the tartan in her promo photo but a little side anedote about Sam Heughan. As this is Justin's first series regular role, he talks about some of the surprising technical aspects behind working on a series that takes place over 100 years ago, how much it means to him as Latino Indigenous actor to take on an Indigenous role, and how his mixed heritage allowed him to connect with his character.   “With Calian I felt like when I read the character I connected with [him] being caught in two worlds with the changing landscape of the West, his interest in the town, I felt like I could really do that justice,” he shared. “I think for a long time I fought certain parts of myself and put myself in a box that people might have liked more. I spent a lot of time not going in the sun when I first got into acting because I wanted to be able to play white if I could. Coming in with the name ‘Justin Johnson', people didn't really see me for what I was, fully. They looked at one little aspect and I tried to fit into that little box.”   “I was nervous going into [Walker Independence] because you never know,” he said of the uncertainty behind the authenticity of his character and Calian's culture. “It's different if you're on Reservation Dogs where you have Native producers, Native showrunners so you don't know what to expect. But the team behind this show really made it clear early on that they want to do something different here and do something right. It feels amazing to finally get to work and represent the culture and be part of a project that welcomes that.”   Walker Independence airs Thursdays at 9pm ET on The CW, available to stream next day on The CW app.
