In this inspiring episode, we sit down with Claire Carlin, an accomplished age-group triathlete, karate black belt, and dedicated Assembly of God minister. Claire shares her journey as an athlete navigating the unique challenges posed by her co-occurring conditions of autism and dyspraxia, conditions that often impact her ability to perform coordinated movements. Despite these hurdles, Claire has tackled multiple triathlons, including three full-distance Outlaw triathlons, and recently achieved an impressive PB in each discipline at Ironman Barcelona – crossing the finish line in just under 15 hours. Claire talks openly about how dyspraxia impacts her swimming, cycling, and running, and how she's found creative ways to overcome each challenge. She also delves into the ways her faith fuels her athletic journey, including her role as a minister and her involvement in the Outlaw prayer gatherings. I'm sure you'll enjoy this episode, as we discuss: Claire's journey from her first run in 2019 to finishing a full Ironman in under 15 hours How dyspraxia and autism shape her training approach and impact her performance Tips for overcoming skill-based obstacles in triathlon for those new to the sport The importance of faith and community in her life, both on and off the race course Whether you're struggling to master the skills required for triathlon or simply looking for some powerful motivation, Claire's story reminds us that with perseverance and heart, we can accomplish extraordinary things. Tune in for an episode full of insight, resilience, and inspiration! Follow Claire on Facebook to keep up with her triathlon journey. Claire has 2 book recommendations. She said you wouldn't expect a minister to ignore the Bible, so she directs you to the Book of Hebrews.

Sarah Svensk's transition from doctor to triathlete illustrates her remarkable resilience and adaptability, overcoming substantial challenges to excel in a completely new field. Starting her triathlon journey in 2015 in Germany, Sarah quickly turned professional despite having no traditional background in endurance sports. In this episode, Sarah discusses overcoming recurring injuries, notably stress fractures, and how adjusting her training and recovery strategies was crucial. She highlights her record-setting performances at Ironman Barcelona and Ironman Cozumel, emphasizing the role of rigorous training, expert coaching, and the Lever Movement system in maintaining her competitive edge and managing her recovery. Sarah shares her ambitions for the upcoming season, including competing pain-free and aiming for the World Championships. She offers insights into managing bone stress injuries and balancing training with recovery, providing valuable advice for athletes facing similar setbacks. Quotes “There was an overlap when I was trying to balance working 50% and being a triathlete, but it was hard. It's easy to get the training in, but to get the recovery and all the other necessary stuff, it's very hard to balance with a day job, actually.” (02:05 | Sara Svensk) “In the beginning, you get devastated when you get an injury. In triathlon, there are so many other things you can do. If you have these bone reactions, then you can usually swim and usually bike, so you can develop that side of the sport. But then mentally, it's super hard and you lose the trust in your body… It's just like regaining the trust in the body again. But then I'm also surprised because I always heal. The body's amazing.” (16:03 | Sara Svensk) “For the Mallorca race now, I didn't have the biggest build for the run. I think the longest run I did was 12k, but I had the lever. And I think that was a game changer for me, because then I could add on some mileage. First and foremost, I could start the run build a lot more secure and with lower impact. And then I could add some mileage and actually a little bit of speed.” (26:13 | Sara Svensk) “The best thing is that almost all the stress fractures heal. And I think just stay calm in that. Take time off. Don't stress about it. It will heal. Just give it time.” (39:45 | Sara Svensk) Links Connect with Sara Svensk: https://www.instagram.com/svensksara/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/levermovement/ https://www.instagram.com/bradmiles/ https://levermovement.com/ Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
Greg O'Shea is a proud Olympian, IRONMAN and Limerick man who spent a few short days in the Love Island Villa in 2019 and was catapulted to fame when he was crowned the winner of the hugely popular reality show with his love interest at the time Amber Gill. Shying away from the spotlight, breaking the unwritten rules of engagement post his Love Island win, Greg headed for home in Ireland to pursue a lifelong sporting dream of becoming an Olympian. With his focus firmly on achieving his boyhood dream, his drive, focus and determination saw him and his team mates achieve success as Ireland's Rugby Sevens team at Tokyo 2020. Retiring from professional sport, Greg started to dip his toes into the exciting world of endurance sport, from cycling a stage of the Tour de France, to completing a UTMB race, he completed IRONMAN Barcelona as his first ever triathlon last October and in April of this year he completed his first IRONMAN 70.3 and only his second triathlon at IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia. It is fair to say that the bug for endurance racing has firmly been caught. His passion for chasing goals, fitness related in particular and for inspiring people to follow their own fitness journey has seen him set up his Bettr App designed to improve the mental and physical health of its users. Whilst all might seem perfect from the outside looking in at the life that Greg has carved for himself, as an athlete, presenter and recognised name at home and beyond, a darkness descended on him not so long ago where his mental health was significantly affected. Thankfully Greg sought the help and professional guidance needed to find his way through a very difficult time to come out the other side in a much better place. Greg now uses sport and exercise as one of his five pillars to keep him on track with his mental health. This is a great chat with Greg who has worked hard to get where he is today, his perseverance, determination and focus have paid dividends personally and professionally, the future is bright and the world his oyster as he pursues his passions in sport, love and life!
In the episode we hear from Darryl Dalton. Darryl shares how he got started in triathlon and walks us through his experience at Ironman Barcelona 2023.

Topsport is hard, dat lijkt evident. Maar hoe hard? Wat is geoorloofd en wat niet? Hoe ver mogen atleten gaan?

This week's episode is a first-hand recap of what it's like to qualify and compete at the IRONMAN World Championships in Hawaii from our own co-host Finlay McAndrew.Kona is a unique event in all sports. Thousands of triathletes pilgrimage to Hawaii in October every year, each and every one of them having earned their coveted spots as professionals or in their age-groups to compete on IRONMAN's main stage. Finlay last raced in his age-group at the world championships in 2016, but having only qualified a few months before, fell short of his own expectations. Having qualified again at IRONMAN Barcelona in 2019 with a PB of 8:42:11, with the subsequent delays due to the pandemic, the 2022 race represented the culmination of over a decade of racing long distance triathlon. It presented an opportunity to go back to Kona and race in a way that he could cross the line and feel satisfied with what he'd done. Regular listeners will be familiar with the extent of Finlay's preparation for his return to Kona - working on developing his metabolic plasticity through a high fat, low carb approach to nutrition, and utilising heat training protocols to prepare for Kona's unique racing conditions. If you've followed his journey at all, this is not one to miss, but even if this is your first experience of the Run4It Podcast and you're just a fan of a hard-working athletes on long pursuits of lofty goals, the same applies. October 2, 2022 - After a 2.4-mile swim in the rough waters of the Mediterranean Sea followed by a 112-mile bike ride in what felt like 30 mph winds I got off my bike feeling ready to crush my marathon run with over 6 hours left on the clock. Next thing I know a race official came over to me and told me I missed the bike cut-off by 8 minutes. I was forced to stop racing - DISQUALIFIED. Here's what went down. Should've prepared better, should've trained harder, and should've biked faster. Even though this was not the outcome I flew halfway across the world for I'm feeling super grateful for many things. #1 Feeling extra grateful for my legs but feel even more gratitude for other opportunities to challenge me beyond my self-limiting beliefs. I will work harder and I will be better moving forward. My new book "Live Better Now" is available on Amazon.... Mark and I discussed his role and the tactics involved in this event at some length, but before we do so we talk about Mark's own sporting background and achievements which are certainly wide-ranging and considerable! From junior triathlons to winning fun runs and then going into cross-country skiing and biathlon before returning to triathlon and winning the overall age-group title at Ironman Barcelona on his debut at the distance. Today on the For What's Ahead Podcast, James sits down with Maddie Stambaugh. Ms. Stambaugh is the middle school art teacher and assistant cross country and track & field coach at FCDS. In this episode, she talks about the connection between both of her passions: running and art. Further, she describes the stepping stones toward her growth creatively and athletically. Finally, she recounts her training for Ironman Barcelona this past fall and provides an inspiring message for those looking to embrace a passion.
Having originally planned to participate in the Race Around Ireland Ultra in 2021, when this event fell victim to Covid she jumped at the chance to race in Mondello. No stranger to endurance racing events she has completed multiple, sprint, olympic and middle distance triathlons and has also completed IRONMAN Barcelona. In recent years she has been fascinated with endurance cycling and has been chomping at the bit to complete a solo endurance cycling race. The catalyst and driving force behind the set up of our Galway Baybes cycling team with myself, Bríd Neachtain and Marie Boyle she has embraced endurance cycling in the past few years and has really focused on going solo and going long since our Race Around Ireland and Donegal Ultra success in 2017 and 2018. Balancing her home, work and training life in a busy household, to get to the startline in great shape was as much a challenge as getting around the 24 hour race. But, her meticulous planning, dedication and focus on her goal along with the unrelenting support of her husband Noel, her sons Cormac, Dylan and Jack along with her colleagues at Fat Tony's and fellow Galway Tri Club members saw her in the shape of her life to fly solo in Mondello and successfully soar to be crowned the queen of the track. Rounding up her experienced crew of Padraic Benson, Pat Dirrane, Damien Moloney, Brid Neachtain and myself she was in great hands for her first solo adventure and we had plenty of fun during the Mondello 24 Cycle. I know that we are all incredibly proud of what Karen has achieved and are looking forward to finally getting together to celebrate her success.

With a string of successes to his name already including; the winner of the Bearman Xtreme Long Distance race in 2017 and the Lakesman in 2019 he set the fastest long distance triathlon time ever recorded in the United Kingdom on the day in a winning time of 8:21. In the same year he finished 7th at Ironman Barcelona in a time of 8:05. He was recently 2nd at IRONMAN UK behind Joe Skipper which saw him jump up the PTO rankings to 26th on the global list. Moving to France with his family as a young child he grew up embedded and engrossed in triathlon as his parents set up Sancture Sportifs Triathlon Training Camps in the South of France. Surrounded by sport, meeting a wide range of athletes from different cultures and backgrounds his passion for triathlon was fuelled and the fire ignited to pursue a life in sport where anything is possible. Sam has a drive, focus and commitment to the sport that many of us can be inspired by, he is still very young in age but he is very much dedicated to his craft. He may have big goals and dreams but I fully expect that those goals and dreams will become a reality and Sam Laidlow is one to watch for the future!
Sara Svensk blazed to an 8.34 finish at Ironman Barcelona in 2018, becoming the fifth fastest female professional of all time over the Ironman distance. Only Chrissie Wellington, Daniela Ryf and Anne Haug (all 3 Ironman World Champions) and Lucy Charles (at Roth) have gone faster. She also had the fastest run split of the day and a top 10 finish at the Ironman 70,3 World Championships in Nice in 2018. Sara achieved these Ironman results while working part time as a medical doctor in a hospital. Sebastian Najmowicz rocznik 1991. Aż w końcu trafił do triathlonu. Zapraszam do wysłuchania Marcin Dybuk
Zapraszam do wysłuchania Marcin Dybyk

On this week’ss show my guest is Elliot Smales, one of the exciting breed of younger men and women developing their career as long distance triathletes. Elliot is a Yorshireman who has based himself in Leeds, a city that has developed a deserved reputation as the centre of triathlon in the UK, Europe and maybe even the world. Elliot was a member of the Yorkshire Triathlon academy who came to study at Leeds University and was part of the triathlon development squad. He dabbled in short course racing but at the age of 23 decided to have a go at a 70.3 event. In 2018 he turned pro and started to post some big wins including Ironman 70.3 Dun Laoghaire and 70.3 Staffs. In 2019 he also won Ironman 70.3 Sweden before deciding at the last minute to enter his first Ironman (Barcelona) just a few weeks after the 70.3 worlds in Nice, France. Elliot has certainly packed a lot into his relatively short triathlon career so far and we cover a lot of ground in this conversation including: Getting started in triathlon with Sheffield Tri Club and never forgetting the club spirit, even when you are a pro triathlete What it really takes to race long distance triathlon Why even no-drafting triathlon has ‘bike packs’, and the tactics involved in racing at the highest level Entering an Ironman event because your clubmates were having a party afterward Thinking that anyone can run a sub 2:40 marathon, when your longest run of the year is just 14 miles The financial reality of trying to make a living as a young professional triathlete To find out more about Elliot and his training and racing exploits you can follow him on Twitter https://twitter.com/elliot_smales and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/elliot_smales/ You can watch the Pre Race interview that Elliot did before 2019 IM Staffs 70.2 HERE Watch Elliot riding his REAP bike in South Africa HERE To find out more about Simon’s SWAT programme, please click HERE To comment on this podcast, please visit Simon's Facebook page HERE Visit Simon's website for more information about his coaching programmes For any questions please email Beth@TheTriathlonCoach.com

This week marks our 52nd podcast, which means that we are almost celebrating our first anniversary! To mark this special occasion, I have a very special guest today. A lady who will inspire you because of her athletic achievements all the while overcoming a very serious personal challenge. Gill Fullen came to triathlon late, only completing her first triathlon in 2009. By 2011 she had represented GB at her age group in the world championships and completed her very first Ironman. Since that time she has won World Championship Gold medals in duathlon at every distance from sprint to long distance. She has also won Gold medals at ITU world middle and long course triathlon, as well as her age group at the world 70.3 championships in 2015. On top of that she has raced at the Hawaii Ironman World Championships twice and this year she will return to the Big Island for a third time. What makes this year so remarkable is that in 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram, after which she had a mastectomy and months of chemotherapy. She completed her treatment just before Christmas 2016 and in July 2017 she won the Outlaw Full triathlon outright, setting a new course record of 9hrs 44 minutes. Just 3 months later she won her third slot to race in Kona at Ironman Barcelona. Gill is not just a remarkable athlete, she is also an amazing person. Settle down and listen in as we chat about: The not so natural move from karate and dressage into triathlon Competing at a very high level in dressage Coping with a cancer diagnosis How to train for triathlon while undergoing chemotherapy The similarities between training horses and triathletes Why most doctors don’t understand the mindset of triathletes Gill’s advice for anyone who is diagnosed with cancer The NEW cancerfit.me project which Gill is involved with To read the full article with Gill Fullen in Tri247 https://www.tri247.com/triathlon-features/interviews/gill-fullen-interview-cancer-strikes.
