On the night of October 11, 1973, two shipyard workers drove into the Jackson County Sheriff's Office in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and told a story that neither of them expected anybody to believe. Charles Hickson spelled his name into a tape recorder and said that even if they laughed him out of the county he was going to tell it anyway. Then he described a blue light coming down over the bayou, three figures floating out of an opening, and something that looked like a big eye moving over his body while he lay immobilized inside a machine. Calvin Parker, the younger of the two, said almost nothing about the inside of it, because by his own account he passed out at the beginning and didn't come around until it was over. What makes Pascagoula different from almost every case like it is what the sheriff did next.Fred Diamond and Captain Glenn Ryder finished the interview around 11 p.m., walked out, and left the two men alone in a room with the recorder still running, expecting to catch a hoax. What they caught instead was a 42-year-old man trying to talk a terrified teenager down, and then, after Hickson stepped out for coffee, a young man from Jones County praying out loud to a machine he didn't know was there. This episode is the Mississippi stop on the Backwoods Cryptid Road Trip, and it goes in deep. I work the case from the primary recording rather than the retellings, which means you get Hickson's actual answers to the deputies, including all the places he told them he didn't know.I lay out the geography of the Pascagoula River, the Singing River legend and why I don't trust the version that got printed for a century, and the Phantom Barber summer of 1942, because this is not a town with no history of strange. I walk through the 1973 flap that was already in the local paper four days before any of this happened, including the service station operator who called in a light around 8 p.m., roughly two hours before Hickson ever knocked on a newspaper door.I also deal with the part a lot of tellings skip, which is what Charles Hickson did with the next 20 years of his life, the ongoing contact claims, the television circuit that started with Dick Cavett on November 2, and the arrest in January 1974, and why none of that gets to reach backward and rewrite what's on that tape. There's a witness who waited 45 years and came forward in 2019, eight years after the man who spent his life asking for her had already died. And there's a historical marker, unveiled June 22, 2019, standing today at the spot where Hickson was certain he'd be run out of town. The back half of the show goes into the woods, because that's the other reason we came.I get into the Choctaw material collected by Henry Halbert in the 1800s, David Bushnell in 1910, and John Swanton after him, including Shampe and Nalusa Falaya, and I'm careful about what that material does and doesn't prove. Then I go county by county through Mississippi's actual documented Sasquatch record, including a very close encounter in the Homochitto National Forest on November 28 of either 1978 or 1979, with 14-inch three-toed tracks and corroborating witnesses, and a report from the Stennis Space Center buffer zone in Hancock County from January 18, 2025.We finish with listener accounts out of the DeSoto, the Delta, the Pearl River, the Tombigbee, and Noxubee. No body, no bone, no photograph worth arguing about. But there's a tape sitting in a county file that anybody can listen to, and I still can't tell you what came down over that bayou.Email BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteHave you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? Most acquisitions look strong on paper. The real challenge begins after the deal closes. In this episode of The Authority Company Podcast, Joe Pardavila sits down with J. Michael Coffey, author of G.A.L.E. Force: Navigating Strategy, Culture, and Value Creation in Modern M&A, to explore why so many mergers and acquisitions fail to meet expectations, and why culture often becomes the biggest obstacle after closing.Michael shares lessons from helping H.E. Parts acquire 14 companies, expand into seven countries, and eventually become part of Hitachi. He explains the principle behind his G.A.L.E. Force framework: global aim, local execution.Joe and Michael discuss the evolution of private equity, the rise of growth through acquisition, the hidden complexity of post-merger integration, and why financial projections often miss the human realities that determine whether a deal succeeds.Michael also shares stories from Chile, global mining operations, competing against industry giants like Caterpillar and Komatsu, and what it feels like to move from acquirer to acquiree. If you're a CEO, founder, investor, private equity leader, operator, or executive involved in M&A, this conversation offers a practical look at how companies can create lasting value after the deal is done.Chapters00:00 Intro00:43 Buffalo Bills vs. Jets01:00 How private equity changed M&A02:55 Why the book opens in Chile03:10 Building H.E. In 1988, at Birmingham, Alabama radio station WZBQ (now WDXB), disc jockey Coyote J. Calhoun engaged in an heated confrontation amidst his protest of the station's playlist, which reportedly got him fired on-air, but, according to Calhoun years later, the incident turned out to be a scripted, pre-recorded stunt designed to capture listener attention.

"some strange and inexplicable horror in the background" [CARD] This Morley-Montgomery award-winning article is the only one written under a pseudonym (thus far). In "The Case of 'J': A Psychoanalytic Case Study with Particular Attention to `Marriage Neurosis', one D.K. Andrews provides a 1920s medical journal-like case study. In it, Dr. Andrews presents the background of an individual every Sherlockian is familiar with, providing some Freudian analysis on decisions this individual has made. It's a fascinating approach and it's just a Trifle. If you have a question for us, please email us at trifles@ihearofsherlock.com. This week's story is the bizarre true tale of Leila Davidson Hansell, known as "The Sunshine Woman," and the controversy surrounding her final resting place in Hendersonville, NC.Leila's final wish upon her death in 1915 was to be buried above ground in a unique mausoleum topped with 147 squares of prism glass, designed to let the sun shine down on her remains. For over two decades, her glass-topped tomb became a must-see tourist attraction, fueled by a 1926 newspaper article that confirmed the skeleton could, indeed, be seen through the glass, contrary to the designer's adamant denials. Doctor Max Jacobson, whom the Secret Service under President John F. Kennedy code-named “Dr. Feelgood,” developed a unique “energy formula” that altered the paths of some of the twentieth century's most iconic figures, including President and Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis. JFK received his first injection (a special mix of “vitamins and hormones,” according to Jacobson) just before his first debate with Vice President Richard Nixon. The shot into JFK's throat not only cured his laryngitis, but also diminished the pain in his back, allowed him to stand up straighter, and invigorated the tired candidate. Kennedy demolished Nixon in that first debate and turned a tide of skepticism about Kennedy into an audience that appreciated his energy and crispness. What JFK didn't know then was that the injections were actually powerful doses of a combination of highly addictive liquid methamphetamine and steroids.Author and researcher Rick Lertzman and New York Times bestselling author Bill Birnes reveal heretofore unpublished material about the mysterious Dr. Feelgood. Through well-researched prose and interviews with celebrities including George Clooney, Jerry Lewis, Yogi Berra, and Sid Caesar, the authors reveal Jacobson's vast influence on events such as the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy-Khrushchev Vienna Summit, the murder of Marilyn Monroe, the filming of the C. B. DeMille classic The Ten Commandments, and the work of many of the great artists of that era. Jacobson destroyed the lives of several famous patients in the entertainment industry and accidentally killed his own wife, Nina, with an overdose of his formula.https://amzn.to/4okPHoVBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
Betty Medsger : The Burglary: The Discovery of J. Edgar Hoover's Secret FBIThe never-before-told full story of the history-changing break-in at the FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania, by a group of unlikely activists—quiet, ordinary, hardworking Americans—that made clear the shocking truth and confirmed what some had long suspected, that J. Edgar Hoover had created and was operating, in violation of the U.S. Constitution, his own shadow Bureau of Investigation. It begins in 1971 in an America being split apart by the Vietnam War . . . A small group of activists—eight men and women—the Citizens Commission to Investigate the FBI, inspired by Daniel Berrigan's rebellious Catholic peace movement, set out to use a more active, but nonviolent, method of civil disobedience to provide hard evidence once and for all that the government was operating outside the laws of the land. The would-be burglars—nonpro's—were ordinary people leading lives of purpose: a professor of religion and former freedom rider; a day-care director; a physicist; a cab driver; an antiwar activist, a lock picker; a graduate student haunted by members of her family lost to the Holocaust and the passivity of German civilians under Nazi rule.Betty Medsger's extraordinary book re-creates in resonant detail how this group of unknowing thieves, in their meticulous planning of the burglary, scouted out the low-security FBI building in a small town just west of Philadelphia, taking into consideration every possible factor, and how they planned the break-in for the night of the long-anticipated boxing match between Joe Frazier (war supporter and friend to President Nixon) and Muhammad Ali (convicted for refusing to serve in the military), knowing that all would be fixated on their televisions and radios.Medsger writes that the burglars removed all of the FBI files and, with the utmost deliberation, released them to various journalists and members of Congress, soon upending the public's perception of the inviolate head of the Bureau and paving the way for the first overhaul of the FBI since Hoover became its director in 1924. And we see how the release of the FBI files to the press set the stage for the sensational release three months later, by Daniel Ellsberg, of the top-secret, seven-thousand-page Pentagon study on U.S. decision-making regarding the Vietnam War, which became known as the Pentagon Papers. At the heart of the heist—and the book—the contents of the FBI files revealing J. Edgar Hoover's “secret counterintelligence program” COINTELPRO, set up in 1956 to investigate and disrupt dissident political groups in the United States in order “to enhance the paranoia endemic in these circles,” to make clear to all Americans that an FBI agent was “behind every mailbox,” a plan that would discredit, destabilize, and demoralize groups, many of them legal civil rights organizations and antiwar groups that Hoover found offensive—as well as black power groups, student activists, antidraft protestors, conscientious objectors. The author, the first reporter to receive the FBI files, began to cover this story during the three years she worked for The Washington Post and continued her investigation long after she'd left the paper, figuring out who the burglars were, and convincing them, after decades of silence, to come forward and tell their extraordinary story. The Burglary is an important and riveting book, a portrait of the potential power of nonviolent resistance and the destructive power of excessive government secrecy and spying.https://amzn.to/48haHbjBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

When Brahmā saw this little child in Vṛndāvan playing with his friends, some of them were stealing food from one another, putting it in their mouths, taking it out, and giving it to another, like kids do sometimes, he thought, “Why is everybody making a big deal? This couldn't be the Supreme Personality of Godhead.” So he played a trick and stole the calves and cowherd boys. Kṛṣṇa re-manifested them exactly the way they were, and Brahmā became extremely bewildered and offered prayers to Kṛṣṇa. One of the first prayers, which is very famous, is: jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir ye prāyaśo 'jita jito 'py asi tais tri-lokyām (SB 10.14.3) You're going to be happy to hear this, because in this verse spoken by Lord Brahmā, he says, “Forget about trying to understand God with your intellect, completely forget.” He's the smartest person—he got 16 million on his SAT—and he said, “Forget about trying to understand God with your intellect.” Jñāne prayāsam udapāsya! 'Jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām.' Jīvanti means, “If all you do is stay alive somehow or other so you can make it to the Bhāgavatam class and hear about Kṛṣṇa, if that's all you do, “What do you do?” “I just try to stay alive.” “Why?” “Because I want to go to the class. I just want to hear about Kṛṣṇa.” 'Jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām.' He said, then your life was perfect. You don't have to do anything else. And then Brahmā says: 'Sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir.' This means you don't have to quit your day job. No moving to the Himalayas. "Sthāne sthitāḥ.” Sthitāḥ means, “Stay, stand, don't move. Just stay in your position and hear about Kṛṣṇa and worship that vibration with your body, mind, and words.” And then he says something remarkable and that is just by that simple process of bhakti—of hearing about Kṛṣṇa, revering the transcendental vibration, the līlā of Kṛṣṇa, the instructions of Kṛṣṇa in the Bhagavad Gītā— 'sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir ye prāyaśo 'jita jito 'py asi tais tri-lokyām." Kṛṣṇa is known as ajita, which means he's unconquerable, but he becomes conquered by the love of his devotees. He's submissive to his devotees' love, and one develops this love by hearing about Kṛṣṇa from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

In 1954 Johnnie Frank Griffin witnessed the violent death of Attorney General-elect Albert Patterson, of Alabama. Six months later he told a grand jury what he knew. The next day he was stabbed. Though his wounds seemed slight, that night he died in a hospital built from the profits of crime. Nine years later, less than an hour after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Johnnie Frank?s son, Frank Griffin, saw Lee Harvey Oswald fleeing the scene of the murder of a Dallas police officer. Between these two events Frank grew up in one of the strangest decades in American history. His story touches that of one of the era?s best known governors, John Patterson of Alabama. It intersects with mob bosses and CIA operations. There?s even room for country music and barroom brawls. This story shows how Frank Griffin?s life was truly Touched By Fire.https://amzn.to/41bIGNSBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

A Voice for Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens is much more than a memoir; it is a humanizing tribute to Chris Stevens the man, by the woman who loved him. Lydie M. Denier, former fiancée and the love of Chris Stevens' life, paints an intimate portrait of the brilliant and mercurial diplomat, teacher and Arabist that was Chris Stevens.Murdered in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, along with Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, Chris' voice has been silenced, his personality buried beneath an avalanche of sordid headlines, political agendas and lies. In her book, Ms. Denier gives Chris a voice, finally setting the record straight about their passionate and turbulent love affair, his commitment to the people of the Middle East, and her dedicated quest to uncover the truth about what really happened the day Chris Stevens was killed and more importantly, why he was not protected. From Hollywood to Cairo, Washington D.C. to Libya, Ms. Denier shares the joy and pain of love, loss, tragedy and healing.https://amzn.to/4kn4fliBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

She lives in New York.In late 1970, a mild-mannered Haverford College physics professor privately asked a few people this question: “What do you think of burglarizing an FBI office?” In remarkable detail and with astonishing depth of research, Betty Medsger reveals the never-before-told full story of the history-changing break-in at the Media, Pennsylvania, FBI offices. Through their exploits, a group of unlikely activists exposed the shocking truth that J. Edgar Hoover was operating a shadow Bureau engaged in illegal surveillance and harassment of the American people.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
James Orr was living the life of a young, high-flying lawyer when, after a few drinks at a New Year's Eve party, he asked for signs that God existed. The signs came; among other things, he narrowly avoided a fatal skiing accident. Now he is a passionate Christian and a conservative culture warrior who helped defeat an attempt to impose the tyranny of critical race theory on Cambridge University, where he is an associate professor of the philosophy of religion. He's also an intellectual mentor to the vice president of the United States; Politico describes him as 'J.D. Vance's English philosopher king'. Dr Orr says Vance is 'extremely articulate, but he takes no prisoners'. As you'll hear in his conversation with Damian Thompson, that's an observation that could easily apply to the man the vice president calls his 'British Sherpa'. Produced by Patrick Gibbons.

Who Really Killed Nicole?: O. J. Simpson's Closest Confidant Tells AllFeb 25, 2022The True Story Behind the Murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, from O.J. Simpson's Closest ConfidanteIt's the greatest crime story ever to play out on national television—the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson, the 35-year-old wife of famed pro football star O.J. Simpson, and Ron Goldman, a 25-year-old restaurant worker and friend of Nicole, who were brutally murdered by an unknown assailant outside Nicole's home in Brentwood, California, on the evening of Sunday, June 12, 1994. Charged with the murders, O.J. Simpson underwent in October 1995 a nationally televised murder trial that lasted nearly nine months, ending in a dramatic acquittal that was watched live by over one-hundred-million people – one of the largest audiences to ever witness anything in the history of television. It was called the “trial of the century.”But people still want to know what really happened that summer night when Nicole Brown Simpson's and Ron Goldman's lives were literally cut short, and now, Norman Pardo—O.J.'s closest confidante and business manager for twenty years—offers readers the true story behind these murders. With revelatory never-before-seen evidence and previously undisclosed interviews with people who knew Simpson and Goldman, Pardo makes the case that the real killer was not O.J., whose only aim was to protect his children from Simpson's lifestyle. Rather, Pardo argues, the true murderer was notorious serial killer Glen Rogers, whose testimony in this book just may hold the key to unlocking the case once and for all. Equal parts eye-opening, shocking, and entertaining, Who Really Killed Nicole? is essential reading for everyone interested in the O.J. Simpson trial and the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, anyone interested in the case of Glen Rogers, and all those who still want to know the truth of what happened that fateful June evening in 1994.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
