Bestselling author and TEDx speaker and coach Ashley Stahl joins me to discuss the nine different ways to tell a story. This is useful for anyone regardless of your profession because story telling is a way that connects us all. Ashley Stahl is the international bestselling author of YOU TURN: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, Design Your Dream Career, host of the You Turn Podcast, ranked on Apple in the top 100 mental health shows in the US, and a keynote speaker with a top 100 ranked TEDx talk. Ashley started her career in counterterrorism under the Obama administration and learned speech writing while working for the government. After pouring 10s of thousands of dollars into her own personal brand, Ashley realized that many entrepreneurs are spinning their wheels and wasting their budgets on personal brand and PR efforts that are not actually moving the needle in their career. After doing two TEDx talks and seeing both of them go viral, Ashley has learned that TEDx is the super highway to launching and scaling your personal brand, whether you want to amplify your authority, leave a legacy or create exponential opportunities for yourself.
Following is a story that is far more common than we realize. A childhood trauma that directs our lives, for better and/or worse. When I first started focusing on drive and researching for my book, this is one of the earlier conversations I had with an influential person, digging into their personal story of drive. Ashley got a Master's degree from King's College London's Department of War Studies, as well as a Master's in Psychology from University of Santa Monica. She started her career in counterterrorism under the Obama administration and learned speech writing while working for the government. She went on to write a bestselling book that put her on the map as an influencer, YOU TURN: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, Design Your Dream Career. Today she runs the Wise Whisper Agency where she helps people create their signature talk and get on big stages. There is the fancy, public bio. My interest however was in her deeper story. The one where at age 10 her Dad had a panic attack about a business turned bad and he exclaimed to Ashley that money was going to kill him. Right then and there Ashley vowed, “I'm going to make a lot of money so that life is easy and I can save my dad from dying." I pulled on this thread and we discussed how it influenced her lifelong quest to save and rescue and help people. What is true to who she is and how much was errant from that early experience with her dad? It will bring up your motives and which are authentic to you and which are influenced by life experiences that could take us down a wrong path. We will learn: The truth about the barriers hindering open and inquisitive conversations. How the need for acceptance hinders our boundaries. The mysterious connection between your mother and your own sense of self. Do you ever find yourself caught between wanting acceptance and wanting others to change? Family has a particular way of amplifying this mental dilemma, especially our mothers. It's this tricky thing where we're trying to be our own person, but we also want that nod from our moms, like, "Hey, you're doing great." It's known as the "Mother Wound." It's about navigating the delicate balance between seeking our mothers' pride and approval while also honoring our own truths and the unique ways we choose to live our lives, raise our children, and even rest our souls. So that's what we're talking about today. Our guest is one of my favorite people and close friends Ashley Stahl. She's been on the show a few other times and I'm so glad to have her back. Although she is currently without children, she's found that suddenly her relationship with her own mom is experiencing a little more friction than usual. So, as friends tend to do, we're going deep into our experiences, and as podcasters tend to do, we're sharing our mess with all of you in hopes that it brings relatability, a little insight, and maybe even some compassion and healing. Ashley is the author of You Turn: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, and Design Your Dream Career. She is the host of the podcast of the same name. How do you monetize a podcast? In this episode I brought on my friend Ashley Stahl, host of the You Turn Podcast, to talk about making an income from your podcast. First Ashley shares her personal story of leveraging networking events to land a job at the Pentagon, only to realize it wasn't for her due to the traumatic nature of the work. While paying off half a million dollars of debt and finding alignment with herself after a perceived failure in her career coaching business. This was really relatable and valuable for her to share. The most valuable lesson from this episode is the importance of sustainability and nourishment when starting a podcast or business. Ashley and I emphasize the need to find a structure that works for you, focus on consistency, and build trust with your audience before monetizing. She also shares tips on repurposing content, choosing the right category for your podcast, and being a big fish in a small pond. So, if you're looking to start a podcast, listen to this episode for valuable insights on how to build a sustainable and successful venture. B”H My guest on Jewish Money Matters Podcast, Ashley Stahl, is a counterterrorism professional turned career coach, international bestselling author, and Fortune 500 spokesperson. Her book is You Turn: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, Design Your Dream Career. With more than 7 million views, her TEDx talk on intuition and fulfillment is ranked amongst the top 100 TED talks on the Internet, and her self-development show “The You Turn Podcast,” The post 311: Making a YOU Turn and Designing Your Dream Career with Ashley Stahl appeared first on Jewish Latin Princess.
Ashley Stahl and I met when her book You Turn came out – and to prepare for her interview on SelfWork, not only did I read her book, I watched a couple of her TedTalks – yes she has two! And I thought her advice was solidly based on the importance of values in choosing a career. I saw that she'd established herself extremely well in the entrepreneurial world, giving career advice to many world wide – while at the same time, being very transparent and giving of herself. So I wanted to feature her and her work – so that SelfWork listeners could approach their professional lives more clearly. Here's her actual bio: Ashley Stahl is a counterterrorism professional turned career coach, an international bestselling author, a Fortune 500 spokesperson, and expert on intuition, personal branding, and fulfillment. Daymond John (Shark Tank, Fubu, NYT bestselling author) says Ashley's bestseller, You Turn: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, Design Your Dream Career, is “the ultimate guide to discover your path in the workforce.” Between her online courses, subscribers, and show “The You Turn Podcast,” (with 2M downloads), she's been able to support clients in 78 countries in self-discovery, upgrading their confidence, and finding career fulfillment. When I asked her to be a guest host, she energetically jumped right in – which was more than meaningful for me. And I loved listening to her episode! She's going to share eleven what she calls “mindshifts” that have been vital for her to learn in 2022 and take now into 2023. Here's a sneak peak into her list… she's learned the difference between a “connection” and a true relationship – the first being highly seductive perhaps but the second holding within it security and consistency , which is so needed by us all. Brave Table fam, welcome back for another super juicy episode today with my dear soul sister Ashley Stahl. This woman is wise beyond her years — a total wordsmith whose incredible life experiences have provided her with many profound lessons and insights, which she shares with us today. Ashley went from counterterrorism professional to career coach, journalist, TEDx Talk speaker (one of the most-watched of all time!), and author of the bestselling book, You Turn: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, and Design Your Dream Career. In this chat, Ashley cracks her heart open as she takes us through her egg-freezing journey and offers poignant reflections for anyone considering doing it themselves. We also talk about the power of following your intuition (and why so many of us lose touch with it), the sneaky ways family dynamics shape your beliefs, and how to be present with your thoughts and feelings and make the YOU-turn back home to yourself. What you'll get out of this episode…. - The reasons why you get cut off from your intuition - Exercises to help you strengthen your intuition and discover what you actually want - Family dynamics and what the environments you grew up in tell you about your beliefs - How to notice when and where you are being your most authentic self, and how to capture and leverage it - Advice for slowing down so you can make intentional decisions in life (and not have to go back and clean up messes later) - What actually happens in the egg-freezing process (I share my own story of researching the experience, too) - Why your problems have to do with how you feel about certain situations and how to reframe your circumstances If you loved this episode, make sure you check out… - Ashley's website at https://www.ashleystahl.com/ and find her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ashleystahl/ (and make sure you check out her egg-freezing highlight) - Watch her Tedx Talk and hear her absolutely chilling story about being held hostage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRtBHF-WPpM - Grab a copy of her book https://www.amazon.com/You-Turn-Unstuck-Discover-Direction/dp/1950665690 - The Hoffman Institute (which Ashley talks about going to at the beginning of the episode) https://www.hoffmaninstitute.org/ - More on healing family trauma https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/healing-generational-trauma-breaking-free-from-asian/id1608226580?i=1000553426419 - More on following your intuition with Amber Rae https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amber-rae-exploring-the-art-of-creativity-the/id1608226580?i=1000565344139 - Taking Ownership of Life Circumstances by Reframing Your Reality To Make It Work for You with Emily Hirsh https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/emily-hirsh-taking-ownership-of-life-circumstances/id1608226580?i=1000566487215 Thanks for listening, and I hope you loved this episode! This episode taught me a lot about myself, and I hope it will do the same for you. It will change you to think about your core values in a NEW way. It'll inspire you to really think about yourself, who you are, and maybe what a better career is for you OR a better partner (there are TONS of similarities between job search and partner search)! In this episode, I interview the inimitable Ashley Stahl (I watched her Ted talk and knew I had to interview her, stat). Ashley Stahl is counterterrorism professional turned career coach and bestselling author of the book You Turn: Get Unstuck, Discover Your Direction, Design Your Dream Career, and she's on a mission to help people get into a career they're excited about and aligned with. Ashley is also single, out there in the dating world, and is very open about her dating life (and you know I LOVE that). Here are just a few of the topics we cover this week! Ashley tells people not to follow their passion. Why? Amazing answers that NO one gives us. What was the moment that she knew that she was in the WRONG career at the Pentagon? She teaches us how you REALLY define what your core values are. This was a mic drop moment for me. What are some myths that keep people stuck in their career and life, and how do we become more experimental? What were my 'dark years' in my life, and what were the two lists I made to find who i "am" and start Smart Dating Academy? How do you get into your masculine/feminine energy for dates? How do you get reconnected to yourself? Why 'backing up' doesn't mean 'backing down' in life If you'd like to read Ashley's book if you're considering a career pivot, here it is! https://amzn.to/37325aL

I'm not going to lie: I was a bit burnt out after working in the COVID units, and this allows me to go out there and tackle global health issues and disparities in a different way than what I'm used to – and on a large scale.” ~Shannon Goldrick MSN RN “My quality of life has improved a ton by making this career change [to writing]. ~Shannon Goldrick MSN RN Resources mentioned in this episode CardioVisual: https://cardiovisual.com/ CardioVisual on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cardiovisual/?hl=en Next steps Download and listen to the podcast of this episode at RN2writer Start your journey from nursing to writing with the ebook Design Your Dream Career as a Nurse Writer Follow RN2writer on social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn

Writing skill – while you need it, and you should continue to hone it – is not at the top of the list of what clients value necessarily in a nurse who writes.” – Elizabeth Hanes “Prospective clients are not going to look at your blog to see how well you write. They're going to look to see if you're up on the industry trends, and do you know what's going on in the industry, and then how are you explaining that through your prose.” – Elizabeth Hanes “I think the content marketing industry in healthcare is just going to constantly expand. I don't think there's every going to be a shortage of [writing opportunities].” – Marna Palmer, studioID “If you're showing up in my inbox at a reasonable cadence with relevant content so that I don't have to go [searching] on LinkedIn, you're making my life easier.” – Marna Palmer, studioID Resources mentioned in this episode studioID: https://www.studioid.com/ Industry Dive: https://www.industrydive.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com Next steps Download and listen to the podcast of this episode at RN2writer Start your journey from nursing to writing with the ebook Design Your Dream Career as a Nurse Writer Follow RN2writer on social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn

Ashley worked in counter terrorism at a very young age and today has a large following around designing your dream career and a new book titled, “YOU TURN: Get Unstuck. Discover Your Direction. Design Your Dream Career." But it was her personal story that intrigued me. At age 10 her Dad had a panic attack about a business turned bad and he exclaimed to Ashley that money was going to kill him. Right then and there Ashley vowed, “I’m going to make a lot of money so that life is easy and I can save my dad from dying." She did that, but the thread I pull on is her lifelong quest to save and rescue and help people that is true to who she is, though today she does it with health and peace. From it you’ll find yourself clarifying what of your motives is true, even if you’ve pursued them, as I have at times, in some unhealthy paths. I encourage you to tune in with Ashley Stahl, find her at Y-o-uturnbook.com and her podcast by the same name. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
