The Kouri Richins murder case just took a sharp turn nobody saw coming — and it's not about the defendant. It's about how the prosecution has allegedly been treating its own witnesses.Defense attorneys filed a motion this week revealing text messages they say show lead detective Jeff O'Driscoll threatening a reluctant witness with arrest, jail, and a "catch pole for the dog" if she didn't comply with witness prep. A second witness with immunity was allegedly told by investigator Travis Hopper that their deal was conditional on continued cooperation — cooperation they say they already provided two years ago.This is the same Detective O'Driscoll whose credibility was challenged in January suppression hearings after the defense claimed he testified falsely about knowing Richins had an attorney. An outside investigation found no evidence of untruthfulness, but the questions remain.Meanwhile, the prosecution's key drug source — Robert Crozier — has recanted his statement that he sold fentanyl to Richins' housekeeper. He now claims it was OxyContin. Prosecutors argue the recantation doesn't hold up. The defense says it "throws a grenade" into the state's case.Kouri Richins has pleaded not guilty and maintained her innocence since her May 2023 arrest. She's accused of fatally poisoning her husband Eric Richins with fentanyl in March 2022. The de la Pole family were one of the great noble houses of Tudor England, who awkwardly possessed a big dollop of York royal blood, tracing direct descent from Elizabeth of York, a sister of Kings Edward IV and Richard III. It was the de la Pole family whom Richard III intended to be his successors, and would in turn become figureheads of rebellion against the Tudors. Today, I am pleased to welcome historian and author Richard Anderton, onto the podcast, for a discussion based on his latest book, The Last Yorkists, Edmund and Richard de la Pole. What's up, dudes? It's the 40th anniversary of Santa Claus: The Movie! Pax Holley from Cult Film Club, Crestwood House, and I Read Movies is with me to talk all about the novelization!  Santa Claus: The Movie was released in 1985, and it chronicled the origin of the Jill old elf himself. Eventually, it transitions into anDudley Moore vehicle as his elf character Patch takes center stage. Patch feels unappreciated and sets out into the world to prove himself. The novelization fills some plot points the movie left out due to time constraints. For example, the elves used to deliver the gifts themselves, but stopped as it grew harder. Also, in preparation for the big flight, they built a simulator for Santa. The novelization even explains why Santa has to go down chimneys due to modern man's lack of trust in one another.
