In today's episode of Pitch Cafe, we have someone who can manage work and life outside work with excellence and she spills her beans effortlessly. So much clarity in thinking and execution, only a mom, a sportswoman, an artist and a person who can throw an event for 500-800 attendees every two weeks can do. "One of the things that always struck me is it takes a village to raise a child. Right? And that's how we grew up. We had a whole neighborhood bringing us up, we could stroll into anybody's house and be fed by some aunty or the other. Right, and the parents didn't worry. Now to the elderly, it takes a community to transition the elder into death. It takes a community you need the support expanded. You need, you know, you need all of the support of not just family in your old age. I think it needs a community. I think it needs the community of elderly who can empathize, who know exactly what you're going through and it's not the younger who can empathize, it's the same age." When Shubha Priya was in her teens, she heard Maurice Chevalier singing the lyrics of a song in the movie Gigi: ‘Oh I'm glad that I'm not young anymore!” Struck by the way he sang it with such conviction, she wondered how growing old could ever be joyful, Fast forward to her 60s, Shubha moved with her mother to what most people referred to as an ‘old age home'. The stark side of ageing was visible all around her, a daily reminder of a Shakespearean vision coming true. Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. Shubha's mother passed away in 2021. But Shubha chose to stay on at the old age home. In between the teenage years and those of living in an old age home, Shubha served as a Creative Director in leading advertising agencies around the world. She is currently fulfilling her lost childhood dreams of being an author and musician. She wrote, illustrated and designed her book of satirical verses for adults, called Whimsical Brew. Shubha is hoping to keep dementia at bay by learning to play the piano! When a woman is diagnosed with cancer, specialists usually only look at one aspect of treatment. However, this siloed approach to treatment does not equip the holistic healing we now know is critical. Thankfully, Bali has united four diverse wellbeing experts; a surgeon, a yogi, a designer, and a nutritionist to re-imagine a new approach to treatment. An approach that unites the alchemy of the senses in mind, body, and spirit and is elevated through the power of design, movement, and nature. A harmonious approach between the internal and external environments transforms one's ability to connect more deeply with the task of transformational healing. Please join Dr. Shubha Dhage, Heidi Blair, Insiya Rasiwala-Finn, and Paula Murphy in conversation with their Barn community...so we can all collectively discuss how the diversity of skills united can transform a women's cancer healing process for good.

We often talk about school segregation from a racial and /or class perspective, but an equally concerning issue is the segregation of kids based on dis/ability. And while many disabled students are marginalized by our educational system, it is particularly true for students of color. It's an overdue conversation for us on the podcast, and it's an important one, because, as the conversation makes clear, all forms of oppression are linked together, and destroying one will require them all to fall. We are joined for the conversation by Joyner Emrick, a disabled person with two disabled kids, and Shubha Balabaer, a non-disabled parent to a disabled toddler. They both offer insight and vulnerability about a subject that is often hard to talk about. From the choice for person or identity first language, to the medical vs social model of disability, the conversations lives in the nuance of a complicated topic. We try to ground ourselves in the disability justice movement and its dedication to dismantling systemic oppression. It is clear that the fight for disability rights is inextricably linked to the fight for social justice and equity for all. In This Episode So often there is a disconnect between what parents and students want and need, and what school systems offer students. In this episode, Diana talks with Shubha Bala, a parent of a pre-schooler. In spite of his young age, Shubha and her partner have already felt disappointment and frustration with their son's school experience. We discuss some of the ideological differences that have been at the heart of the embattled territory between family and school. My hope with providing a forum for Shubha to voice her perspectives, concerns, and successes is that my esteemed colleagues would gain a new understanding and appreciation for the love and commitment that guides families in advocating for their children. And with this new understanding, a renewed commitment to embracing the big picture in the scheme of long-term life quality for our individual students and their families. Furthermore, may those of us in the education field recognize that we are sometimes unintentionally vilified not through any fault of our own, but by our automatic association with an education system that is often outdated and inherently ableist and oppressive, both to students and educators. It is also my hope that this interview with Shubha will provide families hope and a sense of validation, community, and empowerment. The 70s was considered a golden era in the Nepali music industry and were incredibly diverse, both in sound and content. Over time, we witnessed the finest musician/influential Saxophone player’s birth, Shubha Bahadur Sunam(Retd Brigdiar General – Nepal Army), whose music and songs have inspired, influenced and enchanted generations of music lovers. His continued dedication, devotion and contribution have helped the Nepali music industry grow, mature and prosper. He recorded his first composition when he was merely 20. For the last 50 plus years, Subha Bahadur has served the Nepali music industry wearing multiple hats. He had teamed up with renowned composer Shambhujeet Baskota to compose Nepali films’ songs, calling themselves “Subha-Sambhu”. Subha-Sambhu’s first notable hit was ‘Ko Ho Tyo, Jasley Malai’ from the movie ‘Ke Ghar, Ke Der. He has also composed music for several TV series and films. SHOW NOTESShe is the author of ‘The Second Coming' a romantic fiction, published by Harper Collins India; and ‘Resilience - stories of Muslim Women' published by FrontPage. I recently caught up Shubha Menon to discuss her journey from being a copy writer to author of a chicklit; pivoting to a different genre for her second book and her upcoming passion project. In this episode she talks about the role of Buddhism in bringing calm into her life; the taboo around bipolar disorder; her difficult childhood and nurturing her own relationship with her daughter. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it was for her to hide her condition from colleagues friends and family for the longest time. However, what is admirable is that she has not allowed it to define who she is, author, wife, mother, mental health advisor and friend. Hi everyone i am your host dr. Rahat and today we will be discussing all things GUT. Intermittent fasting, childhood obesity, GERD and a lot more. Before we get on with the show notes I have some big news to share. OUR PODCAST HAS RANKED 11th AMONG THE TOP 25 PARENTING PODCASTS INTERNATIONALLY IN 2020! She is a certified diabetologist, nutrition and wellness consultant from the prestigious John Hopkins University USA. SHOWNOTES #1 We will be starting with dieting. It is like the new trend. People on any kind of diet are first advised to cut down on sugars. And they resort to artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners are a healthy alternative to sugars - myth/fact? #2 Next we speak about Intermittent fasting (IF) which is a diet regimen that cycles between brief periods of fasting, with either no food or significant calorie reduction, and periods of unrestricted eating. We have covered all that you need to know before you jump on the bandwagon called dieting. #3 Know how to individualize the regimens according to your own choice. Because there is no one diet plan that fits all. Dr. Shubha explains about 3 plans than one start with and slowly pace it up. #4 I've heard that intermittent fasting helps you look younger. If it is so, then I am starting right away and guess what I got my green flag because dr. Shubha explained how practising IF actually makes you look younger. Hear the science behind it. #5 Having spoken in great detail about IF we also spoke about the most important part of any diet, what to eat? How to break the fast? In other words, what are we allowed to eat during the eating phase? Because people fast for 16 hours but then end up binge eating chicken tikka and biryanis. Which nullifies all the efforts. Know all about this from our talk. #6 Childhood obesity is on a rise with the current sedentary lifestyle, being glued to screens either playing games or for online classes. it has tons of adverse effects. What steps can you take to keep your child from getting obese? #7 The most disabling yet common problem that everyone has to deal with is acidity. We hear these terms every now and then -heartburn, acidity, bloating, GERD? what are some practical ways in which we can avoid heartburn and acid reflux? RESOURCES Find dr. In this episode, we talk to Shubha Kayastha, a queer feminist affiliated to Body&Data, an organization that works in the area of internet freedom and digital rights. We asked Shubha what a feminist internet might mean or look like in the context of Nepal. We also talk about state surveillance (and other forms of surveillance) and how it almost always puts marginalized communities more at risk. How can we protect our privacy and our freedom of speech when the state begins to encroach upon our liberties, especially during the time of a pandemic that requires varying degrees and forms of surveillance in order to contain the contagion. One of the primary goals of education is to prepare youth for the labor market. This task is infinitely difficult because economies are constantly changing. What will the global labor market look like in 30 years and how will it impact specific countries? It’s impossible to know for sure, which therefore makes deciding which skills to teach inside national school systems difficult to pinpoint. It’s a major public policy question facing many governments. But there are some skills that employers want right now that they feel schools are not teaching. Plus, with the labor movement in decline worldwide, jobs have become precarious for many people. This reality requires laborers to have the grit and tenacity to be flexible in their job choices as economies change. Can schools teach these soft-skills to students? My guests today have recently co-edited a book that dives into the subject, looking at the skills deemed necessary by employers but lacking in students. The book is entitled “Bridging the Skills Gap: Innovations in Africa and Asia, which was published by Springer earlier this year. With me today are two of the co-editors, Wambui Munge and Shubha Jayaram. Wambui is a Communications Officer at Results For Development where Shubha is a Senior Program Officer. -- http://www.freshedpodcast.com/mungejayaram/ Twitter: @FreshEdpodcast Facebook: FreshEd Email: info@freshedpodcast.com

He also discusses his contribution to the book, "'If Music Did Not Pay': The State Court Roots of Justice Holmes’ Intellectual Property Jurisprudence," which reflects on how Justice Holmes's experiences as a state supreme court justice affected his perspective on intellectual property law and informed the opinions he wrote as a Supreme Court justice. CLC is a brokerage house for mortgage brokers in Canada that grew from just 6 in 2017 to 160+ in 2019 and is one of the fastest-growing mortgage brokers in the country. Shubha Nabar is a senior director of data science for Salesforce Einstein. Prior to working for Salesforce, she was a data scientist at LinkedIn and Microsoft. In the podcast she discusses Salesforce Einstein and the problem space that they are trying to solve, explores the differences between enterprise and consumer for machine learning, and then talks about the Optimus Prime Scala library that they use in Salesforce. Why listen to this podcast: * The volume of data, and hardware advances have made it possible to do machine learning to do them a lot faster. * AI is a science of building intelligent software, encompassing many aspects of intelligence that we tend to think of as human. * If you can’t measure something, you can’t fix it. * You have to think about what you can automate, rather than having a human to try and engineer out all those features. * Get feedback on design. Nora Jones, a senior software engineer on Netflix’ Chaos Team, talks with Wesley Reisz about what Chaos Engineering means today. She covers what it takes to build a practice, how to establish a strategy, defines cost of impact, and covers key technical considerations when leveraging chaos engineering. Why listen to this podcast: - Chaos engineering is a discipline where you formulate hypotheses, perform experiments, and evaluate the results afterwards. - Injecting a bit of failure over time is going to make your system more resilient in the end. - Start with Tier 2 or non-critical services first, and build up success stories to grow chaos further. - As systems become more and more distributed, there becomes a higher need for chaos engineering. - If you’re running your first experiment, get your service owners in a war room and get them to monitor the results of the test as it is running.
It's time to make the choice. You can't choose both, obviously. That would be ridiculous. Shubha guides you through. Grab tickets to Nailed It at GiantDwarf.com.au

For our Special Episode 15 Mother's Day edition of WDEK, we talk to the WDEK Moms. Shonali avoids getting spit on in the subway. Christian shares a story about a boy and his piggy bank. We first talk to Shonali's mom, Shubha Bhowmik who lives in Nashville, TN. She loves comedy and tv shows on TV Land. Giving birth to Shonali was no big thing. As for Justin, his mom, Dorie, lives in Walker, Minnesota and was a radio broadcaster and host of her own variety radio show. She tells us about Justin the lost adventurer. On one of his trips, Justin was confused when he was in Frankfurt, Germany instead of Frankfurt, Kentucky. Dorie also is a musician and has released some albums. We will play her Polka, Waltzes, and Foxtrots soon. Christian's mom, Madeleine lives in Evanston, IL and tells us some unexpected stories about Christian. Madeleine like Christian has a beautiful way with words. Teasers are Mother Theresa, to-do lists, and a hole in the wall. We all love our mothers so much. Now that may seem obvious, but heck it's not true for everyone. We feel lucky. Thanks Moms! We love you. Tame Impala takes us out with Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind!
