God bless James Gunn, who decided to follow up the success of Superman with a massive orgy in the first episode of Peacemaker season 2, released just weeks later. The idea of parents sitting down with their kids to enjoy the next chapter of the DCU and getting a whole lot of sausage is simply too funny to me.Before we discuss the episode (and the DC Comics easter eggs within) we cover a little bit of news, including the latest casting on Spider-Man: Brand New Day and just what the heck the next chapter in the "Superman saga" could be. If you don't care about that, skip to 27:03.By the way, the latest episode of our podcast Watch Men sees us talking about 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Devon is able to pivot from this topic to discuss how excited he is for the ambitious storytelling that seems to be on hand for the Second Season on Peacemaker after the thrilling first episodeThe next topic is movies, specifically re-releases in the wake of the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film doing 3.3 Million in box office sales in its now first week after they decided to extend its run. Finally we talk video games in the platinuming of “SteamWorld Heist II,” the non-platinuming of “Shadow Labyrinth,” each Say Reporters plan for there next game play endeavor, and the excitement surrounding the latest announcements for the Resident Evil series going Veronican.
1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cowabunga, dudes—we're diving into the sewer-slick world where radioactive reptiles deliver justice with nunchucks, sass, and an unhealthy dependence on pizza. But does this childhood favorite still kick shell, or are there too many red flags hiding under those bandanas—like the racial coding, abusing children, and torture? We're asking the hard-hitting questions: is this film a radical time capsule or just toxic ooze in VHS form? Either way, Splinter deserves hazard pay and some serious therapy. Hosted on Acast. The result is Ancientz—a faith-fueled franchise that combines raw imagination, biblical inspiration, and street-level grit. Quiggly's mission? To create a new kind of hero, rooted in truth, spirit, and courage, for the next generation. With a story that bridges pop culture history, personal redemption, and creative reinvention, Quiggly is a one-of-a-kind guest for shows about creativity, faith, comics, toys, entrepreneurship, and personal transformation. His energy is contagious, his journey is inspiring, and his message is clear: never stop creating, and never stop believing.KickStarterFace BookInstagramWebsite Under Construction
Oh happy day! We're coming back to the convent and doing our first ever sequel to an episode we've covered previously with "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" from 1993. Another iconic flick in the repertoire, which brings back the infectious buzz of Whoopi Goldberg, and that classic early 1990's feel-good atmosphere. While still a good time, filled with memorable performances, musical numbers, and copious amounts of montages, this movie feels more made-for-tv and somewhat trope-y at times. But that was the 90's man!Join us next time when we complete the Justin-Ninja-Karate trilogy (previous installments include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie!) with another 30 year old cult classic: 1995's "Mortal Kombat" - Hi-yah!--We are Uncultured Universe - the podcast where we introduce movies, tv, music, and books to each other to get a little bit more cultured. For the past year, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has been as exciting and essential as DC's Absolute Universe or Skybound's Energon Universe. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Juan Ferreyra have built an unmissable monthly comic, not to forget the numerous other splinter titles and crossover minis. Shortly before San Diego Comic-Con International, The Hollywood Reporter announced Aaron and Ferreyra's departure, and we were a little heartbroken. Their time on the book was too brief, but if they must go, the news that cartoonist extraordinaire Gene Luen Yang and lifelong Turtle maniac Freddie E. Williams II eased the pain some. One of our missions for this year's San Diego Comic-Con was to return with more news regarding the TMNT baton pass between Aaron and Ferreyra and Yang and Williams. After moderating IDW Publishing's “The New Era of Turtle Power” panel, we retreated to the Hilton Bayfront, where we had a lengthy conversation with Gene Luen Yang about his passion for the Turtles and how he would apply it to the series, starting with issue thirteen. Also discussed at San Diego Comic-Con, Andrew Joustra, the script coordinator for the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, will write an arc for the newly announced Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, bringing the iconic Fugitoid character to the latest iteration of the TMNT universe. As passionate fans of Fugitoid ourselves, we had to trap Joustra in a media room for a deep dive into his take on the character and why he put so much of himself into the troubled fugitive android. Today, you get two podcasts for the price of one. With Gene Luen Yang, we discuss where we find the Turtles when his story begins, how they've grown throughout the Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra run, and why a certain new antagonist was necessary for his story. With Andrew Joustra, we explore the Fugitoid concept, his relationship with the Turtles through the various franchise incarnations, and why this story is so deeply personal. Be sure to follow Gene Luen Yang on his website, Blue Sky, Instagram, and TikTok. Also, follow Andrew Joustra on his website, Blue Sky, and Instagram. The raw power of making something just for the hell of it—and why you should do it anyway.Yeah, I said it Krusty the Clown–style. It's Monday Motivation time, and you know what that means: caffeinate your soul, slap yourself awake with a paintbrush, and prepare to scream into the void—in the most beautiful, artful way possible. This week on FWACATA, we're talking total artistic freedom. That holy grail where there are no rules, no deadlines, no clients, no critics—just you, your tools, and that screaming void begging you to make something weird, raw, honest, maybe even kind of ugly... and therefore brilliant. But here's the trap: freedom is scary. Like, pants-half-unzipped-at-the-buffet scary. Blank canvases don't come with instructions. No guardrails. No gold stars. And when you strip away all the outer noise, what comes up? Imposter syndrome. Fear. Doubt. That voice that whispers: “You? Really? You think you're good enough?”I once painted a mural in Hialeah Gardens with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—up 12 feet on a ladder, baking in the Florida sun. My stomach turned. My hands shook. Not because I was tired. Because I didn't think I deserved to be there. I laughed to myself mid-brushstroke and said, “Oh… this is imposter syndrome.” And I kept painting.Because that's the secret: doing it anyway. You don't need permission. You don't need perfection. You need to ask, “Is this ME?”—not, “Is this good?” And that's the golden ticket. That's where the real art lives.Even if nobody sees it. Especially if nobody sees it.But hey—share it anyway. That weird little epoxy Max figure you sculpted? That strange sketch? That strange thought that bloomed into a poem? That might be the one thing that makes another artist out there—maybe in Akron, maybe in Argentina—feel less alone. That's enough.Artistic freedom means failing isn't failing. It's just research. It's the data you collect before making something even more you.So this week, make something messy. Make something dumb. Make something pure. Rip the caution tape off your brain and let it dance naked in the street. Be the beautiful chaos you were born to be.And as always—be good.
EPISODE 325 - We start our season on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with an in-depth look at the original issue #1. Famously created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, this issue was meant as a one-shot story. Not quite a joke, but not quite serious either, the creators had no idea they were creating a media empire. The comic is good! We meet the turtles, Master Splinter and Shredder! How much did Will know about the turtles going in (not much). But how much did he like the comic? A lot! ------- Email us at screwitcomics@gmail.com Subscribe for monthly bonus episodes at screwitpodcasts.com Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/phXVFgB4ck
