Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)
It's easy to claim your comic as "Evil Dead for Blerds," but accomplishing the cheeky elevator pitch is far more complex. Writer J. Holtham and artist Michael Lee Harris grab their inspiration from the iconic Sam Raimi splatstick horror franchise but do so in service of an entirely different purpose. Motherfu*kin Monsters rages with a political fire, throwing their protagonist into a university setting shrouded with white faces. Their JJ eagerly wants to find his place within this system, while his family stands skeptical, waiting for it to reveal a devilish intent. Of course, JJ's kin thought metaphorically, not the literal ghouls that quickly hunger for their flesh. Our conversation with J. Holtham and Michael Lee Harris begins with their love of Evil Dead, or Evil Dead II, more specifically. We start by exploring what the film does so well, for what reason, and why they were compelled to plant their mission atop it. Motherfu*kin Monsters is one helluva ride, filled with chills and thrills, but from page one, the comic also makes its anger known. J. Holtham and Michael Lee Harris, like all The Horizon Experiment stories, speak to the moment. Our hope is everyone reading is listening to what's on the page. In addition, our discussion addresses the economic realities of comics-making and comics-shopping in 2024. The Horizon Experiment's pilot system still raises eyebrows in comic shops, but by embracing experimentation, the series removes one of the veils between creator and consumer. Honesty is the best policy, and we need to buy the comics we want to see in the world. It's cold, hard math...er, capitalism. So, remember, Motherfu*kin Monsters arrives in stores on December 18th, courtesy of Image Comics. Continue the conversation with J. Holtham by following him on Instagram. Finally, we've come to the totally nonsensical "giant anthropomorphic turtles with googly eyes that make you uncomfortable" of time travel: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III." The lesser of the three original "Turtles" films, "TMNT III" includes time travel back to 1600s Japan for some reason. This is accomplished by a weird scepter, the rules of which make zero sense. Somewhat in honor of the release of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows", the second movie in the new rebooted Turtles continuity that Phil rather likes, we're digging into 1993's ignoble end to the live-action "Turtles" movies. It's technically a time travel movie! By the way, here's the ZZ Top song from the beginning of the movie that Nick incorrectly disparaged as being a knock-off of "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors. It makes sense in context! We'll be hitting up the Terry Gilliam movie "12 Monkeys" on our next episode, combined with "La Jetee," the French short that inspired the film. You can check it out on Vimeo or (but you might want to find it in French with subtitles instead). In this episode: Hey, remember "Out of Our Shells"? It's time to travel back to the dark ages of 1993, as we tackle Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, aka the one where they go back in time, aka the one they made so they could sell toys of the turtles dressed as samurai. And since this movie doesn't have much to offer, Will and Sam delve deeper into the Ninja Turtles as a multimedia phenomenon that endures to this day, despite the franchise-killing efforts of its only threequel. The Spin Chagrin, a concept that finds Frank having to watch a movie he's never seen before based on the random spin of a wheel filled with off-the-wall genres, continues into a new year. Welcome to Episode #2 of the 4ever in Electric Dreams podcast series - Supple & Lean | A Geekcast. Imran Mirza from London, UK, connects with Vahé Vishapakagh Koshayan from Melbourne, Australia, to delve into a series of conversations continuing their unwavering fandom for all things TMNT, Marvel, music and undoubtedly more! This episodes continues in the show's adoration of IDW's reimagined TMNT lore this time focusing on the 4-part miniseries, 'The Secret History of the Foot Clan'. Boasting a typical abundance of Ninja Turtle discussions throughout, we also take time to delve into the third feature film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), to decide whether the film is an overlooked masterpiece or a best forgotten entry into the pantheon of TMNT films. For MCU fans, we also squeeze in some Marvel discussions as part of our preamble discussing some points from Phases 4 and 5. ALSO, in the last episode, we unveiled the Vahé-produced/performed/written theme to our podcast with* 'Supple & Lean - Geekin' (Theme To S.L.A.G.)'. Now with the intention of creating a new topic-relevant track per podcast episode, the Mighty Vahé gifts us with the phenomenal 'Saki's Bane' exclusive to listeners of this podcast. www.4everinelectricdreams.com/ Emanating from London, UK, the 4ever in Electric Dreams website and podcast network is designed to help us celebrate the things we loved growing up and the things that continue to excite and inspire us today. With podcast episodes of the Close Encounters Minicast, 90s State of Mind and Supple & Lean, there's lots of reasons to visit us again and again, and to join us in our ongoing celebration of the things we can't leave behind.
We round out our classic 90's TMNT Trilogy episodes with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (aka Turtles in Time in some release formats). This film is mostly panned by fans and critics alike for being a departure from the lore of both the comics and the 1987 animated series. We discuss the replacement of the Henson's Creature Shop costumes, the simplicity of the plot, how the turtles have changed, and what probably would have been a better plot idea for what the studio was working with.Get 20% off + FREE SHIPPING at MANSCAPED using our code 'SUPER'Check out From the MiddleVisit supermediabrospodcast.com for all past, present, and future episodes, and to leave us a voicemail!Leave us a rating/review on Spotify, GoodPods, and Podchaserhttps://www.supermediabrospodcast.com/reviews/new/Subscribe to us on YouTubeSuper Media Bros MerchSuper Media Bros on Social MediaFacebookTwitterInstagramFounding member of OddPods Media

As we approach the halfway point of our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mega-series, we bid a final farewell to the live-action turtles. Following the defeat of the Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, the filmmakers had a big decision to make with regard to the story of the third film. Their answer? Send the turtles to feudal Japan! On this episode, Philip Boone of the Ultimate Gilmore Girls Movie Night podcast joins Franchise Detours to talk all about 1993's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. We'll discuss the movie's long-rumored subtitle, those downgraded turtle costumes, and all those pop culture references. In the end though, is the third TMNT film worth a revisit? Let's discuss! “Big mistake, dude!” Your Distinguished Professors tackle a movie that temporarily killed a franchise and that isn't X-Men 3! We suffered through the joyless simulation of a movie that is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, so now you have to listen to us chat about it! It's only fair! Topics discussed include the confusing proliferation of TMNT media, a plug for The Toys That Made Us, Corey Feldman's hacky voice acting, an interminable attempt to project our group dynamic onto the turtles, the bad targeting of the jokes for the adults, the degeneration of the turtle effects and Splinter's loss of his lower torso, the time swap plot, interspecies turtle lust for April O'Neil, magical time travel finally makes its appearance, Leonardo's Cyclops-like uselessness, endless attempts to try to figure out how racist this movie is, our intervention regarding Vanderpool's habit of falling asleep in movies, the unresolved mystery of the drawings of the turtles from the past, a digression into kappa, the ubiquitous ‘80s desire to become a ninja, arguably the worst 90s villain falling death, and Clink's insane double Michelangelo mask moment which dominates the podcast. Cowabunga dudes! This week the Bloody Good Film Podcast is back with the final episode in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. We go ninja go ahead and ninja wrap things up with the final film in the original trilogy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III and pair that with the 2007 animated film, TMNT. Join us to see if the turtle power is finally running out or if just maybe Elias Koteas playing two characters in the same movie is enough to keep it going. We talk how creepy the turtles have gotten as our deep dive into the franchise has gone on, and try to figure out exactly what Laurence Fishburne has to do with any of this. Noel MacNeal is a puppeteer who has performed in various Henson productions, working on Sesame Street on-and-off since 1982. His most well-known work has been his portrayal of Bear, the lead character of Bear in the Big Blue House.Born and raised in New York City's Central Harlem, he began his puppetry career on the television series The Great Space Coaster (taking over from John Lovelady as Knock Knock) and later made his way to Sesame Street, joining the show as a "puppet wrangler."MacNeal's first Muppet performance was a supermarket cashier in a Grover sketch; MacNeal flubbed his one speaking line, to tell Grover that his register was closed and to go to another line, which resulted in his character getting a close-up in a pick-up shot.MacNeal's other Sesame roles have included several full-bodied Snuffleupaguses, including Snuffy's mommy at various points, and his daddy in the unaired "Snuffy's Parents Get a Divorce." In the feature film Follow That Bird, he performed Madame Chairbird and doubled for Caroll Spinney as Big Bird in a scene where he's running from Bert and Ernie's plane. MacNeal has puppeteered Big Bird on several other occasions, such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In addition to performing, he has played an active role in hiring and training puppeteers for local Sesame Street productions in Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Jordan, Palestine, and India. During MacNeal's time on Bear in the Big Blue House, he served as principal performer, director, and wrote a few episodes. In 2005, he reprised the role of Bear for Breakfast with Bear. His more prominent non-Henson credits include the baby dragon Magellan on Eureeka's Castle, Leon MacNeal in The Puzzle Place, and Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. He also puppeteered on Between the Lions (taking over Lionel for the last two seasons), Blue's Room, and Oobi (Kako). MacNeal spent a stint as host (and writer) for Sprout's The Good Night Show and has puppeteered on more adult series including 30 Rock, Oz, Chappelle's Show (in the "Knee High Park" spoof of Sesame Street), and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He is the resident puppeteer for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. As a writer, he contributed scripts to The Puzzle Place, Eureeka's Castle, Gullah Gullah Island, The Magic School Bus, and Cyberchase. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

You remember those 90s movies where the main characters traveled to medieval times for no reason? That's this movie, but with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles time travelling to feudal Japan. Why? Who knows, but let's get into it! On today's Keep or Cancel, we're talking about the careers of once-aspiring, and since very successful, comic book writer/artist duo Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird! After almost 15 years, they finally made a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III... and it's awful! We're talking TMNT (2007) in the fourth installment of our impromptu Turtle deep dive. Oh, and cum. We're also talking about cum. Because of course!
We're going back in time (but not with Huey Lewis) to talk about 1993's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III! Is it as bad as everyone says? Or is the TMNT fanbase a bunch of grown men who take this all too seriously? Plus: bestiality jokes! Too many of them, actually.

Ben and Garth review the Wikipedia page for Back to the Future (franchise). Back to the Future has been around for ever like Bruce Lee and Star Wars. Let’s talk a little about the movies but mostly the tv show, the games, the ride and the short film. Did you know that Rocky was an arm wrestler before he was a boxer? What is your tongue of choice we have buffalo, cow ox or yak? You can't fight a gorilla so just let it keep your hoodie. lions and tigers and bears oh my! In the 1980s and into the 90s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a legitimate phenomenon. Based on a comic of the same name, the immense popularity of the "Heroes in a Half Shell" would spawn countless action figures, a cartoon series (that ran for 10 seasons!), a concert tour/album, a live-action television show, and, of course, big screen movies. If that sounds like the over-commercialization of something, well, that's because it was. By the time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III hit screens, the titular protagonists had jumped the Street Sharks (just one of the many properties they inspired). Premiering in 1993, six years after the cartoon version began, III would gross just over $42 million. On a budget of roughly $21 million, that doesn't sound too bad. Yet if you consider that it made over $35 million less than The Secret of the Ooze (its predecessor) and nearly $100 million less domestically than the original, a disturbing trend appears. Unlike the brothers insatiable love for pizza, the audience had had its fill. And like the box office receipts, reviews had also started to sag. Deservedly so. III is a mess of a movie. Nonsensically plotted, it's nothing more than poorly scripted pop culture jokes layered atop increasingly cheap looking creature effects. As a child obsessed with these characters, it was a deflating watch then and remains so now. This may all sound a bit drab, but III is good for one thing: Spirited comedic banter about its many faults! So sit back, grab a SuperEIGHT Super Gose from Dogfish Head, sharpen up those nunchaku skills (unless you're in the UK), and enjoy, as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Chumpzilla wax our shells to throw down with a host of bland, generic characters, who offer zero of the nostalgia from Ninja Turtles lore! Mark, Rick and Brian share some final thoughts on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, while also walking through the entire TMNT trilogy as a whole. The lads learn that there was a proposed 5th turtle if there had been a fourth film of the series, Brian relays some found footage of the TMNT Rock Tour and Christmas Special and they play the Parents Guide Game on the theme of comic book movies. The fellas also come up with some more holidays deserving of a turtle TV special, a victory song based on the Charmin commercials breaks out and the fire to still find Ninja Turtle Pies out in the world is reignited in Mark. Whether you a pizza with or a pizza without anchovies person, tweet these "Superb Snackers" @5DollarBinPOD then listen to this one over and over....because repetition of podcast listening is more acceptable than pacing back and forth like a feudal Japan background extra (who happens to be Rick's favorite character)!
Mark, Rick and Brian have a "reviewsit" of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (unofficially subtitled: 'Turtles in Time'), to finish out the original TMNT Trilogy. The lads ponder if the lack of Shredder cause this 3rd film of the series to feel somewhat off, point out how the special effects company changed to non-Henson leading to noticeable suit malfunctions and come up with the more mature version of the classic "Wet Willy" maneuver. The fellas also become in awe of the magic cannonball demonstration, Rick has a breakthrough from a childhood toy revelation and they all work together to make a new kind of pizza that would be the perfect snack to consume in feudal Japan times. Grab your warrior armor, a mystical scepter and then join these "Silver Screen Samurais" as they jump back through time with some Turtle Power. This one's more fun than being on the receiving end of a "Moist William!"

The first new episode of 2018 sees Nathan and Brendan bring on resident turtles expert Dame Malcolm Wallace to talk about the racially sensitive "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III." The boys have a lot to talk about including the wild inconsistencies regarding the space-time continuum, turtle genitalia, Elias Koteas inexplicably playing two unrelated roles, villains that suddenly get a weakness introduced in the final third of the film and... just why in the hell is EVERYONE speaking English? We're doing another podcrawl, along with Read it and Weep and Too Beautiful to Live! They covered the first two of the original Ninja Turtles movies, and we covered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III aka the one where they go back in time and wear samurai garb that is somehow fitted to giant turtles. Meanwhile, Stu reveals Elliott's diaper secret, Dan has an energy drink scam, and Elliott poses a question about inter-generational incest. Continuing the Bad Movies from our Youth and Terrible Third Installments series is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. This time featuring time travel to feudal Japan, this movie sadly is nowhere near as cherished as the time traveling video game. What it does feature is a much more interesting sideplote that mostly happens off-screen unfortunately.
Recorded live in Rochester, July 16th, 2016 On this episode, the gang treks out to the Little Theatre to chat about the completely worthless sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III! How could they cut the budget for these turtle puppets? How was no one concerned about the space/time continuum? And are we still talking about turtle genitalia in these movies? PLUS: An audience member gets publicly humiliated close to their birthday! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III stars Paige Turco, Elias Koteas, Stuart Wilson, Vivian Wu, Sab Shimono, and Corey Feldman; directed by Stuart Gillard.
The critical and commercial failure of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III didn't just derail plans for subsequent films in this franchise - it also represented a pretty definitive end point for our generation's "Turtle-mania". No one's suggestion that the movie hasn't earned its bad reputation, but it's grown so aggressively hyperbolic over the years that the HDYR gang couldn't help but wonder if the slide in quality was really THAT severe. Well. We have our answer. When we revisited the first two films with a more objective point of view, we realized that each of them had their issues - but boy oh boy is this third one a different beast entirely. It's probably no great revelation that this isn't a very good movie, but what was surprising were the reasons it felt like such a spectacular failure to us now... because the terrible Turtle costumes are the least of its problems. Topics include: how the studio's recognition of the Turtles' dwindling popularity influenced their decision to cut corners, the story behind those hideous new suits, the baffling choice to bring back Casey Jones and do nothing with him, some absolutely insane time travel logic and how easy it would have been to simplify this whole scenario, a more satisfying backstory for these new villains, a discussion about the right time to age out of this stuff, and much much more! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
The gang takes you into the weekend with an all-new WHM On-Screen talking about the latest example of cinematic turtle power, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows! What was the thinking behind that Krang voice casting? Take a look at that botch job they did with Casey Jones! And thank goodness Splinter finally took a bath! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Laura Linney, Stephen Amell, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Tyler Perry, Brian Tee, Sheamus, Gary Anthony Williams, Tony Shaloub, and Brad Garrett; directed by Dave Green. If you want to hear more of the gang talking turtle, be sure to catch WHM Live! at the Little Theatre in Rochester, NY on Saturday, July 16th as they chat about all things TMNT, but specifically, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III! It’s time to talk about Turtle Power! The Ninja Turtles have been America’s favorite reptilian crime fighting brothers since they burst on the scene over 30 years ago. In this episode we discuss the Turtle phenomenon and talk about Turtle toys, comics, tv shows and the celebrated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III!
Cowabunga! It's a turtle triple feature as Lyndsey gets radical with her VHS selections, picking the 1990 smash hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequels, 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and 1992's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Talking points: A triple feature. The comics, cartoon, and movies. The original film. Pizza party at Pizza Hut. Cartoons on VHS. The Foot as an allegory. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Corey Feldman as Donatello, and Josh Pais as Raphael. Rapid turnover in cast. A gritty first installment that feels like a reboot. Casey Jones. A violent and fully realized world. Secret of the Ooze. The BK Kids Club. Suburban Commando. Stepkids. Ernie Reyes Jr. These turtles look different. Paige Turco replaces Judith Hoag as April O’Neil. Out of the shell and on Oprah Winfrey. What does Splinter eat? Tokka and Rahzar fill in for Bebop and Rocksteady. Everything is toned down. Go Ninja by Vanilla Ice. Missed opportunity with the anti-mutagen. The third film. Army of Darkness. The soundtrack. A Hanes commercial. Surf Ninjas. All Effects Company takes over from Jim Henson, turning Splinter into a dog puppet. Oregon fills in for feudal Japan. Time travel. Romeo and Juliet subplot. Jokes for adults. A demon gives CPR. No pizza or consequences. Human-turtle relationships. Lame villains. A double role for Elias Koteas. Favorite turtles over the years. Buy it/rent it/tape over it for the series. Other adaptations of TMNT. Turtle nostrils. An American Werewolf in London.
It's 1993. It's a dark and desolate time. Everyone is sitting at home. No one wants to do anything. Alice In Chains is still a relevant band. Then, like a flash of light reflected off the bottom of a Pepsi can, we were gifted with time-traveling turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (now retroactively subtitled "Turtles In Time") is a horrible waste of everyone's time. Even still, we manage to stay on topic somehow. Hosts Allen Christian and Steven Granger are joined by the oft-mentioned Lacey Day, who didn't actually watch the movie before the commentary, yet still managed to grasp the plot better than the boys. Also in this episode, Casey Jones fronts Creed, Steven has to reminds Allen that this movie isn't a historical document, Allen really likes ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary Bad Boys, documenting the rise and fall of the Detroit Pistons, no one understands when anyone is making a joke, and Lacey Day has her heart touched. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Podcast In A Half Shell - The Anniversary Edition! That's right, it's been a year since Episode 1 came out, and so of course we decided to celebrate the only way we know how; with booze! This time around, I get completely over-excited by having met Kevin Eastman, Lief Tilden, Michelan Sisti and Nick Palma, Duncan shares some thoughts on a few TMNT video games, and we both try to wrap our slightly tipsy minds around the absolute madness that is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (aka Turtles in Time). Having only just watched the movie before recording, you'd think we'd actually remember what happened... On top of struggling to figure out what the actual point of the movie was, we discuss how much of a tit April is, wonder why Mikey is backwards on a horse, and dribble over 90's Elias Koteas... Also, there's a rogue Christopher Walken impression!Cowabunga, dudes!
Your Stupid Minds finishes off the summer ninja series with a ninja movie of the teenage mutant turtle variety: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III! Our heroes in a half shell (or full shell, if you want to be accurate) return for their final non Michael Bay film appearance. When a magical lantern transports April (Paige Turco) back in time to 17th century feudal Japan (and the prince Kenshin takes per place), the turtles must travel back to save her. The turtles almost immediately muck everything up and intersperse their heroic deeds with dated early 90s pop culture references. Michelangelo falls in love with the rebel leader Mitsu (Vivian Wu), and Raphael flies a kite with an adorable boy named Yoshi (Travis A. Moon). Meanwhile, the Japanese honor guard who replaces the turtles in the present have a great time with Casey Jones (Elias Koteas) playing hockey and arcade games.
We watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III and now that we've gone green, we cannot go back. This movie was chosen by Brad as his going away movie. It was a tear filled episode complete with lots of crying, hugging, name calling, asshole-ry and a shitty movie about time travel. Brad had to blow out his microphone twice more before leaving the show. This movie is also a fond LIW farewell to our first studio. This truly is a transition episode.
