Frequently Asked Questions Q: Will AI replace pet sitters? A: No. AI can't replace the trust, judgment, and relationships a pet sitter builds with clients and their pets. People hire a pet sitter for the human behind the business. What changes is that pet sitters who refuse to use AI will fall behind the ones who do, because AI now handles the marketing, content, and admin work faster. The work in the field stays human. The work behind the scenes is what gets transformed. Q: Will AI replace dog walkers? A: No. Dog walking is a hands-on, in-person service that AI simply cannot perform. What AI changes is the business side: scheduling, client communication, and marketing. Dog walkers who adopt AI get time back and reach more clients, while the actual walking stays exactly what it has always been. Q: Do I need AI in my pet business? A: Yes, as a tool. Bella compares ignoring AI in 2026 to refusing to use a computer or a cell phone in your business. It's no longer optional if you want to stay competitive. You don't have to automate everything overnight, but you do need basic AI literacy and a willingness to get in the sandbox and play. Q: What is “AI slop” and why is it bad for my business? A: AI slop is generic, lifeless content that looks obviously machine-made: stock-looking graphics, copy with none of your keywords, and posts that could belong to any business in any town. It's bad because it doesn't carry your unique value, it doesn't help your SEO, and it can actually put potential clients off. Good AI use takes your secret sauce, your tone, and your words, and makes them sharper, not generic. Q: How can a pet business owner start using AI? A: Start small and get curious. And I've done a lot of thinking about it. I have done writing about it, I have outlined it. I've even recorded this actual podcast twice already and decided to just like throw it all away. So right now it's I'm just gonna talk to you. I do have a little bit of an outline, and I Do not apologize ahead of time if I go off into tangents, because this is gonna be one of those episodes like when I was on my road trip and I talked to you and it's just gonna be me and you. I even thought about like moving my whole rig out to my living room and sitting on the couch with my big furry blanket because it just kind of felt like that was the feeling I wanted to come across with. But I digress. Hi, this is Bella with Bella in your business, the 270th episode. I'm sorry, not 270, 470th episode. What? I think it's a good place to start because I have had a lot of evolution as I hope that you have two in your life. And I hope that your evolution has or I want to encourage your evolution, your future evolution to be self-led instead of things are happening to me. I believe that we can make things happen for ourselves, but that we have to have a conscious mind. in order to do it and not be stuck in groundhog day every single day doing the same thing over and over. Cause that's just the way that we do it, right? Like I believe that we all need to think about our reactions and and our responses. And that there's Rumi said that there's power between what happens and our response. There's that that little window there. And the more we can create that, we have more of an opportunity to think. And that's a really great way to set up everything I'm about to tell you today. Bella (02:07.602) back in 2022, I'm gonna go all the way back there. I feel like I was like four different versions of myself. But I was I maybe I should start 2018. I started the mastermind and I started better marketing with Bella. Okay. And what we did is in the mastermind, it was the first mastermind ever and in our industry. And the way it was set was that what it was back then is not what it is today. and it's by design because we've evolved and things have changed. And I don't believe in teaching the same thing over and over and over again. I believe in evolving with the world and how people buy and how people receive information and just everything. Marketing with Bella has been evolving. It first started where we only had six people and we would create things for them that we don't necessarily we didn't create years later because Social media changed. And so we started providing videos and we started doing all this other stuff. And then social media keeps changing. And so the program kept changing. and so all of this change is necessary a necessity because things that worked a couple of years ago aren't gonna work now, and that's even more so. It's like how agile, like how much can you bend and ebb and flow to things? But you have to be seeing that this stuff is happening. So back in 2022, the crack happened. My team was already secretly using what we called Jarvis, which it was to help us write some blogs and scripts and things. and by the end of 2022, the November 2022, the last week, it was like Thanksgiving-ish. Chat GPT came online. And I was one of the first million people to join. At the recording of June 8th today, they announced last week that there's now one billion with a B. Beef or boy, people using Chat GPT. And it is historically the fastest growing app software ever. And it has taken on like a firestorm. As you probably know, you probably have a login for it. and so that happened, and it was like, ooh, what's this nice new shiny thing? You know, there's so many people making predictions, and but the predictions were still, you know, the predictions are the predictions, but the timeline. Bella (04:32.29) was the hard part to nail in. And I'm listening to all these amazing thought leaders. And that was when I started listening to podcasts and following people way smarter than me and following these tech companies and paying attention to their announcements and the commentary that comes from it. And in 2023 in the mastermind, I had Dustin who created Magi. I knew Dustin from all of my social media marketing days and speaking on stages around the world because he too Was a marketer who would start like lots of different companies. And finally, you know, Magi comes together fast forward to today in 2026. It's wildly amazing and helps tons of people. what Magi does is it takes all the LLMs, put it under one roof. So you only have one login, one password, and one price. Instead of paying $20 for like five different things, it's one. and I had him come into the mastermind to talk to us about AI because he was engulfed

A decade into the Better Leaders Better Schools Ruckuscast, Danny Bauer has coached and interviewed hundreds of school leaders — and the patterns are clear. Dan Watt, elementary principal in British Columbia and Ruckus Maker, flips the microphone and puts Danny in the guest chair. What follows isn't nostalgia. It's the unfiltered architecture of a school leadership development ecosystem that actually works — and what it means for how you lead your campus. The Ruckuscast turns 10 this year. That's 10 years of watching which principals grow and which ones stall, which leadership beliefs hold up and which ones collapse under pressure. This episode is the debrief.
Have you ever felt like you're doing all the "right" things—building your career, chasing success, checking the boxes—yet still feel like something is missing? If so, this episode is going to hit you right between the eyes and straight into your heart. This week on The Todd Durkin IMPACT Show, I sit down with a young man I've been business/life coaching in my Mastermind for a while. Brady Hutchins is a coach, author, and an overall IMPACT-maker with a great story. Brady recently released his new book, The God Within: Remembering Who You Are in a World That Tells You Who to Be, and in this episode, we unpack what it truly means to reconnect with your authentic self in a world constantly pulling you toward external validation. Brady shares his deeply personal story of navigating unimaginable adversity after a tragic car accident involving his father and younger brother, the lessons he learned from being forced to grow up fast, and how those experiences ultimately shaped his life's purpose. We also dive into the panic attack that became his wake-up call in 2022—a moment that forced him to examine whether he was living in alignment with who he truly was. Through powerful insights on identity, purpose, faith, leadership, personal growth, and the difference between living from fear versus living from love, this conversation will challenge you to stop looking outside yourself for answers and start reconnecting with the greatness that already exists within. Whether you're a high performer, entrepreneur, athlete, coach, parent, or simply someone searching for deeper meaning and fulfillment, this episode will inspire you to remember who you are and step into your true calling. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE: Why so many successful people still struggle with identity and fulfillment How Brady's personal tragedy became the catalyst for discovering his purpose The powerful story behind his new book, The God Within What "The God Within" actually means and why it applies to every single person The true meaning of enthusiasm and how it can transform your life How to identify the difference between your conditioned self and your authentic self Understanding the concept of "Magnetic North" versus your "True North" Why panic attacks, stress, and burnout can be important signals—not setbacks The daily practices Brady used to create greater alignment, peace, and resilience How meditation, breathwork, cold plunges, and coaching helped him expand his capacity The importance of auditing your decisions through the lens of love versus fear Why living from love creates greater impact, fulfillment, and freedom Practical strategies to reconnect with your purpose and become the person you were created to be How men in their 20s, 30s, and 40s can build an identity beyond career success and family roles The mindset shifts needed to live with greater authenticity, confidence, and purpose This episode is a reminder that your greatest power isn't something you have to earn, achieve, or chase—it's already within you. The challenge is learning to quiet the noise, break free from the expectations of the world, and reconnect with the person God created you to be. Brady's story is proof that even our greatest struggles can become the foundation for our greatest purpose when we're willing to do the inner work. One of the most common patterns I see among clinicians turned practice owners is that they struggle to pull the trigger, uncertain key things necessary to build a successful business… For many that "thing" is hiring … whether their first employee, or even their fifth. It's a process that makes them cringe, and therefore, is often put off way too long. The schedule is getting fuller. Their responsibilities are growing. They know hiring would likely help them move forward. Yet instead of taking action, they find themselves stuck in a cycle of hesitation. Not because they are lazy. Not because they lack ambition. But because hiring feels overwhelming. In this episode, I coach a Mastermind member who finds herself in exactly that situation. Her practice is growing, her responsibilities are increasing, and she knows she probably needs to hire. The problem is that when she thinks about recruiting, onboarding, management, payroll, and everything else that comes with bringing on an employee, the entire process feels so daunting that she ends up doing nothing instead. Hiring does not have to start with your dream full-time clinician. Sometimes the smartest move is learning how to attract, evaluate, and onboard the right person for the next small role first. If you want a deeper step by step system for that process, my "How to Attract Top Talent, Manage Like a CEO, and Fill New Clinicians' Schedules With Patients As Quickly As Possible" Masterclass walks through how to attract better employees, onboard them so they add value quickly, and manage them in a way that actually supports growth. And before you leave this page, make sure you scroll down and grab this episode's free resource, The Ultimate New Employee Onboarding Resource Guide. Most hiring advice focuses heavily on recruiting and interviewing, but what happens after someone joins your team can have an even bigger impact on whether they become a successful long-term employee. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why hiring often feels much bigger than it actually is The mindset trap that keeps many owners stuck in solo practice How to use "baby steps" to make intimidating business decisions easier Why your first hire does not need to be a full-time clinician How small hires can create significant growth opportunities The hidden risks of remaining the only revenue producer in your business A practical way to start building a team without feeling overwhelmed USEFUL INFORMATION: Check out our course: Automated Top Talent Attraction and Hiring System

Tune in to our weekly LIVE Mastermind Q+A Podcast for expert advice, peer collaboration, and actionable insights on success in the Probate, Divorce, Late Mortgage/Pre-Foreclosure, and Aged Expired niches! Today's episode focuses on a live probate role-play and conversation training session centered on improving lead conversion through better communication, stronger discovery questions, and more natural client interactions. Much of the discussion emphasizes how to disarm prospects early by avoiding scripted sales pitches and instead leading with curiosity, empathy, and thoughtful questions that encourage people to open up about their situation. Bruce walks through practical ways to handle common probate objections (such as already having an attorney, having things handled, or not being ready yet) by reframing them into conversational responses instead of resistance. The group also highlights the importance of consistent follow-up through calls, mailers, emails, and personalized resources to stay top of mind until prospects are ready to act. Throughout the session, the coaches reinforce that successful probate conversations are less about memorizing scripts and more about practicing authentic communication, active listening, and calm, non-threatening persistence that builds trust over time. Ultimately, the episode underscores that long-term probate success comes from combining empathy, preparation, consistent follow-up, and strong conversational skills to create meaningful relationships and lasting opportunities. Key Takeaways: - How to disarm probate prospects by leading with empathy instead of sales pressure. - Strategies for turning common probate objections into natural conversation points. - Why asking better discovery questions leads to stronger client relationships and conversions. - The importance of consistent follow-up through calls, mailers, and personalized resources. - How tone, pacing, and active listening help build trust during difficult probate conversations.- Why authentic communication and calm persistence outperform rigid scripts in probate sales. You already know indecision is costing you. What you probably haven't done is calculate exactly how much. In this episode, I'm walking you through the decision debt audit, a structured process I built after watching highly capable, established business owners sit stuck on the same decisions for months. We're going through five categories of common business decisions, attaching real dollar amounts to the ones that have been sitting unresolved, and diagnosing the specific blocks keeping each one open. If you've been meaning to make a decision that keeps getting pushed, this is the episode that will finally move it. Timeline Highlights [00:00] – Why indecision is a business expense and how to calculate the true cost of decision debt [02:24] – What the decision debt audit is and who it's built for [04:22] – Why highly capable, multi-six-figure entrepreneurs are the ones most affected by open decisions [06:35] – How to run the audit: grab your notebook and open to a fresh page [08:25] – Category 1: Offer and program structure decisions that haven't been finalized [10:51] – Category 2: Pricing decisions, including overdue price increases and underpriced offers [13:32] – Category 3: Team and operations, from underperforming hires to missing SOPs [15:55] – Category 4: Marketing and messaging, platform decisions, launch plans, and content that hasn't shipped [18:45] – Category 5: Big-picture business model and direction decisions [21:17] – How to calculate the dollar cost of each open decision and total your decision debt balance [35:06] – The seven blocks that keep smart entrepreneurs in decision paralysis [49:20] – Solo problems vs. room problems: how to know which intervention you need [01:00:21] – Introducing The Decision Room mastermind and what it's designed to do Top Quotes from This Episode "Your business moves at the speed of the slowest decision you're not making." "The cost of staying stuck in indecision looks completely different once you see the actual dollar amount. It's just another line item on your P&L." "The information you actually need to make a better decision lives on the other side of making the next best decision. You won't get it until you take action." "You cannot read the label from inside the bottle. That's what happens when you're making decisions that require objective input and a perspective you don't have access to from where you're standing." "Unmade decisions don't stay neutral. They accumulate. They compound. And at best, next year's version of that number stays the same. More likely, it grows." "The smartest people struggle most with indecision because they see too many angles. The people who don't struggle are usually the ones who aren't seeing the full picture." "A decision that feels like a verdict on your identity is almost never actually about the decision. It's about what your brain has decided that choice means about who you are." The Bay closed. Frank and Oak shuttered. Insolvencies have been climbing for years and the narrative everyone's repeating is that retail is in trouble. David Lui has a different read. Retail isn't dying. The operating model is. And the brands going under aren't the ones customers stopped loving, they're the ones whose people, product, and place stopped working. As CEO of Kit & Ace and co-founder of Unity Brands, David is doing almost the exact opposite of what you'd expect. He's buying beloved Canadian brands that almost didn't make it, and he's opening stores. In this episode, Marc and V sit down with David, a former colleague from their Canadian Tire days, to unpack what changes when a marketer crosses over to the P&L seat. We get into why every store opening is a bigger marketing spend than any ad campaign, the P's most marketers consistently underrate, what David learned scaling Korite into China through live-streaming when North America wasn't ready for it, why he calls his stores billboards, and the metric he ignored as a CMO that he refuses to take his eyes off as a CEO.If you've ever defended a budget, sat through a quarterly review, or wondered why a brand you loved quietly disappeared, this one's for you.Timestamps00:00 Cold open and intro: the Canadian retail paradox03:34 David's origin: Hong Kong factories and a counselor who got it wrong10:25 Canadian Tire days and the move to Mark's15:11 Selling Korite in China: live-streaming before North America was ready19:51 Kit & Ace's origin story and the DNA Unity Brands kept22:32 Building the Unity Brands portfolio: Tilley, Mastermind, and operational synergy28:02 From marketer to operator: the P&L reframe30:23 Why every store opening is the single largest marketing spend33:08 The P's marketers underrate: people and place35:06 The metric David ignored as a CMO and refuses to lose as a CEO40:34 Premium positioning and why fast fashion is fading43:36 What the next Canadian challenger brand has to get right46:24 Where Canadian retail is headedAbout DavidDavid Lui, CEO, Kit & Ace; Co-founder, Unity BrandsLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidymlui/Kit & Ace: kitandace.comTilley: tilley.comMastermind Toys: mastermindtoys.com
We look at this Harvard Business Review Press book about Taylor Swift. For more about the book, see here. There's Nothing Like This: The Strategic Genius of Taylor Swift, reviewed This book is certainly readable. As someone who is aware of who she is, knows a few songs, and has teenagers who may have even gone to see her in concert there are reasons why this book was of potential interest for reviewing. The author also cites a lot of business management and thoughtful marketing thinkers too, Clayton Christiansen and Seth Godin yes we are talking about you here. Similarly words like pivot and pilot are used with business dev enthusiasm. This is all fine and dandy, but, as we read it, it was hard not to wonder if this was an attempt to shoehorn the career of Taylor Swift into a startup ethos vibe. The other question, and challenge in reading this narrative, was that, were we looking at Taylor Swift's career through the prism of a confirmation bias. She was, now is, wildly successful for sure, but does that mean that all of her albums, and her musical steps, and decisions made were actually that strategic or as carefully considered as the subtitle of this book would like us to think? As Bill Gates may have said, success can be a lousy teacher. All the more so when you consider musical careers. Lou Reed was an awful grump and cranky guy, if many accounts are to be believed, the Velvet Underground were both wildly unsuccessful first time around, and yet created some great songs and are considered to be one of the seminal and most important bands to have come out of the sixties. Was this therefore a clever strategic performance, or did they, eventually, stumble onto fame and fortune. Walk on the wild side and Waiting for my Man would hardly be obvious topics towards musical stardom. Coming back to Taylor, the book was informative, interesting, but the business analogies felt a bit clunky at times. Many fans felt that The Tortured Poets Department was a good single, or perhaps double album, lost in a triple. It would have been good to see how the author factored in this mishmash of an album in the slightly breathless prose of her faultless strategic rise to the top? Perhaps the classic result of so many triples, like Sandanista for example, so great songs, mixed in with some slightly to very odd ones too. This book might fall between too stools, not Taylor enough for TS fans, and a bit of a reach for business insights for those coming from a business or marketing background. More about the book here A smart, page-turning exploration of the business and creative decisions that transformed Taylor Swift into an unprecedented modern cultural phenomenon. Singer-songwriter. Trailblazer. Mastermind. The Beatles of her generation. From her genre-busting rise in country music as a teenager to the economic juggernaut that is the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has blazed a path that is uniquely hers. But how exactly has she managed to scale her success–multiple times–while dominating an industry that cycles through artists and stars like fashion trends? How has she managed to make and remake herself time and again while remaining true to her artistic vision? And how has she managed to master the constant disruption in the music business that has made it so hard for others to adapt and endure? In "There's Nothing Like This," Kevin Evers, a senior editor at "Harvard Business Review," answers these questions in riveting detail. With the same thoughtful analysis usually devoted to iconic founders, game-changing innovators, and pioneering brands, Evers chronicles the business and creative decisions that have defined each phase of Swift's career. Mixing business and art, analysis and narrative, and pulling from research in innovation, creativity, psychology, and strategy, "There's Nothing Like This" presents Swift as the modern and multidimensional superstar that she is–a songwriting savant and a strategic genius. Swift's fans will see their icon from a ...
Principal Matters: The School Leader's Podcast with William D. Parker
In this episode of Monday Matters, Will Parker brings together a group of school leaders from Ohio who participate in an ongoing Impact Mastermind in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, Adkins & Company, LLC, and Principal Matters, LLC. The conversation centers on how collective coaching and collaboration strengthen leadership practice and help leaders better develop others. Meet the Ohio Impact Mastermind This week’s guests (pictured above) include Kelly M. Brodzenski, Breen Slauter, Julita (Julie) Flowers, Danielle Morris, and Renee Holt. Additional members mentioned but not present include: Jared Hawk, Allison Shardell, Joe Weisend, Ken Goodrum, and Chris Brooks. I'm grateful for each of them, and I'm excited to share lessons from our regular sessions together. Let's Keep Learning as Leaders A key theme throughout the discussion is that leadership can feel isolating, but being part of a trusted community creates space for honesty, reflection, and growth. The leaders describe how regular mastermind sessions provide: A safe, non-evaluative environment to process real challenges Opportunities to learn from others' experiences and apply solutions proactively Support in navigating emotionally complex decisions, especially around staff and school culture Accountability to stay focused on professional growth and reflective practice Several leaders highlight how coaching has sharpened their ability to: Listen deeply and ask better questions rather than rushing to solutions Separate emotion from evidence when making difficult decisions Build confidence and clarity in high-stakes leadership moments The group also emphasizes the practical impact of this work. They are not just learning—they are translating these strategies back into their schools by: Using coaching questions with assistant principals and staff Creating more reflective, people-centered staff meetings Encouraging team growth beyond just data and performance metrics Modeling collaboration and continuous learning within their own organizations Another major insight is the distinction between typical school meetings (focused on data and outcomes) and mastermind conversations, which focus on the “how” of leadership—mindset, decision-making, and personal growth. Parting Words of Wisdom As the conversation concluded, each leader offered a meaningful parting word of advice for fellow school leaders, reinforcing the importance of connection, growth, confidence, and purpose in the work. Danielle Morris reminded listeners, “You are not alone—seek out community.” Julita (Julie) Flowers encouraged leaders to remain grounded in their development, sharing, “Stay committed to growth to sustain leadership success.” Breen Slauter added the importance of trusting oneself while continuing to learn, noting, “Trust your instincts while remaining open to learning.” Finally, Renee Holt brought the focus back to purpose, urging leaders to “Always reconnect to your ‘why' for leading.” Let's Wrap This Up Great leaders don't grow in isolation. They grow through intentional, collaborative learning with others who understand the work. If you're interested in learning more from these leaders, reach out through their websites listed in the introduction. If you'd like to connect about opportunities for coaching, mentoring, or Masterminds for yourself or your leaders, reach out to Will at will@williamdparker.com Until next time, thank you for doing what matters! AI is everywhere right now — and most people are using it like a fancier Google. Ask it a question, get an answer, move on. Maybe ask it to write a caption. And then wonder why it's not actually saving you any time.In this episode I'm pulling back the curtain on exactly how I have Claude set up in my real life and business — from content planning to daily briefings to meal planning — and why the difference between AI costing you time and AI genuinely changing your life comes down to one thing: how it's installed. This isn't a theoretical conversation. If you are hiring in your practice right now, or know you eventually will be, this is an incredibly important conversation. Because the hiring landscape has changed dramatically over the last few years. Gone are the days where most private practice owners could simply post a job on Indeed and get flooded with great clinician applicants. In most markets now, that just is not happening consistently anymore. And honestly, I'm seeing this everywhere through my coaching clients across the country and internationally as well. This episode came from a conversation inside my Mastermind program with a practice owner who suddenly found herself with a waitlist, a surge of referrals, and the realization that she needed to hire much sooner than expected. The problem? She had never hired before. And that combination of growth, urgency, and uncertainty is something I see all the time with practice owners. In this episode, I walk through the exact strategies I'm using inside my own practice right now to attract significantly more clinician applicants in a market where many owners are struggling to get any at all. And make sure you scroll down to grab the free resource for this episode. It gives you the step-by-step process I'm using to get job posts in front of clinicians who are not actively searching on job boards, including how to use boosted social posts to dramatically increase visibility and applicant flow. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why Indeed and traditional job boards are no longer enough by themselves How to get your job posts in front of clinicians who are not actively job searching The exact social media boosting strategy I'm using to generate clinician applicants Why networking and recruiting must become an ongoing part of running a practice Creative places to recruit clinicians outside traditional hiring platforms How to position your practice as a premium opportunity for clinicians Why hiring systems matter even if you are "just trying to maintain" USEFUL INFORMATION: Check out our course: Attraction and Hiring System

Tune in to our weekly LIVE Mastermind Q+A Podcast for expert advice, peer collaboration, and actionable insights on success in the Probate, Divorce, Late Mortgage/Pre-Foreclosure, and Aged Expired niches! Today's episode centers on the importance of leading with empathy, providing value first, and positioning yourself as a true problem solver when working probate and distressed property leads. Members share real-world probate experiences involving complicated family dynamics, missing heirs, and long-term follow-up, reinforcing that patience, consistency, and relationship-building often create opportunities years later. Much of the discussion focuses on avoiding “commission breath” by prioritizing the client's needs, using thoughtful questions, active listening, and natural conversation to build trust and uncover motivation. The group also highlights the value of flexible communication strategies, strong referral networks, personalized outreach, and creative marketing techniques that help agents stand out in crowded markets. The episode concludes with a reminder that long-term success comes from combining empathy, consistency, and a solutions-first mindset to create trust, referrals, and lasting business opportunities. Key Takeaways Treat working leads like a full system: consistent follow-up, coaching, and marketing systems help to create more consistent long-term results. Leading with empathy instead of pressure: listen first, help people through difficult situations, and avoid “commission breath” during conversations. Using confidence and flexibility on calls: scripts are described as guides rather than rigid formulas, with tone and adaptability playing a major role in building trust. Probate success requires patience and persistence: One featured story highlighted how consistent follow-up over several years eventually led to a successful closing. Standing out through personalization and unique marketing: add personal touches to mailers and experiment with different marketing approaches to separate yourself from competitors. Creating value through referrals and additional resources: partnerships, referrals, and offering extra solutions will position you as a trusted advisor. When Carrissa Wu signed the lease on her first studio in a Fremantle warehouse, she remembers thinking, “What have I done?” She had just quit a stable corporate job at a Perth casino, had a growing stack of Etsy orders for paper flower bouquets, and a long list of dreams she had written down in that tiny first space: work with the King's Park Botanic Gardens, get featured in Frankie magazine, build a team. Every single one of those things has happened. In this Episode of Paper Talk Podcast, Carrissa joins hosts Quynh Nguyen, Jessie Chui, and Sara Kim to tell the full story of Jotterbook Flowers, her paper flower business based out of Perth, Australia. She talks about how COVID gave her the space to rediscover making, how a mentor's advice to pick one bread-and-butter revenue stream led her to workshops, and how Perth's post-lockdown environment created a surge in demand that she could barely keep up with. "You forgot the scissors for a workshop? We just learned to make a checklist. It's not a you problem, it's a systems problem." — Carrissa Key Takeaways from this Episode: Pick one reliable revenue stream before experimenting with others. Hire for personality and relational skills since technical craft can be taught. Train team members through a staggered observation-to-independence process. Treat mistakes as systems problems, not personal failures. Know your numbers and be willing to cut overhead when the math stops working. Being “finished” with one creative chapter is not failure; it is freedom to start the next one. The skills you build in running a creative business transfer to whatever comes next. Learn more about Carrissa Jotterbook Flowers is Perth's Original Crepe Paper Flower Studio, founded by artist Carrissa Wu. Principal Matters: The School Leader's Podcast with William D. Parker
In this special episode of Monday Matters, I had the privilege of sitting down with members of a leadership mastermind group from the Archdiocese of Louisville Catholic Schools in Kentucky. Recorded during Kentucky Derby season, I affectionately referred to this group as my “Derby Mastermind.” Together, we reflected on how collective coaching, mentorship, collaboration, and reflective practice shaped our growth throughout the school year. Guests Featured: From left to right: Dr. Trevor Timmerberg, Shelly Pence, Chasity Livers, Jessica Young, Dr. Karen Loper, and Morgan Wissing (not included in this recording but a member of the mastermind) Throughout the conversation, we discussed how mastermind collaboration helped us: Become better listeners rather than immediate problem-solversSeveral leaders reflected on how easy it is in administration to jump quickly into “fix-it mode.” Through coaching conversations and reflective questioning, we learned the value of listening first, seeking to understand root causes, and creating space for people to process their own thinking before offering solutions. Slow down and reflect more deeply before reactingThe group repeatedly emphasized the importance of pausing before responding to difficult situations. Rather than reacting emotionally or rushing toward quick answers, leaders described learning how to reflect more intentionally, ask deeper questions, and approach challenges with greater wisdom and perspective. Examine assumptions and refine decision-makingLeadership often requires reevaluating assumptions and seeing situations from multiple angles. Participants shared how collaborative discussion and “hot seat” conversations challenged their thinking and helped them make more thoughtful, nuanced decisions. Build confidence in their leadership capacitySome leaders entered the cohort unsure of what they could contribute, especially those newer to administration. Over time, the encouragement, collaboration, and shared learning within the group helped build confidence and reinforced that their experiences, instincts, and leadership voice mattered. Reduce the isolation that often accompanies leadershipA recurring theme throughout the conversation was that leadership can feel lonely. The mastermind experience created a trusted space where leaders realized they were not alone in their struggles, challenges, or questions. The relationships and shared experiences helped replace isolation with connection and support. Develop healthier rhythms around reflection, family, wellness, and personal growthThrough recurring reflection questions and accountability practices, leaders became more intentional about balancing their professional responsibilities with personal wellness, family presence, reading, reflection, exercise, and healthy routines. Translate coaching practices into stronger support for teachers and teamsLeaders shared how they began applying mastermind strategies within their own schools — including celebrating successes, revisiting norms, asking stronger coaching questions, holding reflective conversations, and intentionally developing leadership capacity among teachers and staff. We also explored how structured reflection, accountability, and collaborative problem-solving influenced our schools. Several leaders shared that the practices modeled during our mastermind meetings — including celebrations, norms, reflective questions, coaching conversations, and clear agendas — became strategies they intentionally implemented with their own faculty and leadership teams. A recurring theme throughout the episode was that leadership development is not selfish; it is essential. As Trevor Timmerberg reflected, effective leaders invest in themselves so they can better serve others. Parting Words of Advice from Each Leader Shelly Pence “If I don't invest in myself, then I don't have the capacity to invest in others. I have to continue to invest in my own growth to be able to invest in other people.” Chastity Livers “Take the time to learn and grow. It benefits your school, your professional growth, and even your personal life. I'm always recharged after every mastermind session.” Jessica Young “Having an opportunity to collaborate helps you feel supported and stretched. You become a better leader and a better person.” Dr. Karen Loper “Give yourself permission to spend the time you need to become a better leader. That's what we're all striving for.” Dr. Trevor Timmerberg “Investment in yourself as a leader is never superfluous and it's never selfish. You owe it to the people you serve to put the oxygen mask on first so that you can help others.” Now It's Your Turn Thank you for listening and learning together. When you intentionally invest in your own growth, collaboration, and reflection, you are: Learning and growing Supported and stretched Creating time for renewal and reflection Recognizing that leadership growth is not selfish Returning to your schools equipped with greater perspective, wisdom, and context As always, I hope this episode reminds you that leadership is strengthened through collective learning, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful relationships. So if your brand feels scattered, your voice feels diluted, or your content isn't landing the way you know it should — this episode is going to name exactly why.I'm breaking it down into three parts: building a brand world that creates unconscious trust, the formula for a voice that actually converts in 2026, and why your personal brand — the parts of you that have nothing to do with what you sell — might be your greatest untapped asset.Key Takeaways:What it actually means for your brand to be a world — and what happens when that world feels disjointed before someone consciously realizes itWhy visual consistency isn't about spending money on branding — and what it's actually costing you when it's missingThe three-part brand voice formula: brevity, clarity, and directness — and which one most business owners are skipping entirelyWhy jargon and "cutting edge" language is losing you people before they ever get to your offerHow showing up as a full human — values, hobbies, grief, the real stuff — creates the kind of resonance that converts cold strangers into long-term clientsLinks:My entire business runs on one platform — get 30 days free with GoHighLevel: https://www.gohighlevel.com/?fp_ref=taylorslangoContent References:Jawsh- almost 1M followers because his personality SHINES and the format & visuals of his videos are so consistency and the same every single time: https://www.tiktok.com/@chickenjawsh?_r=1&_t=ZP-95x2HHKcdgcJessi- started posting on social media literally 5 months ago and exploded because her video formats are consistent and engaging and her editing is the same time and time again: https://www.instagram.com/jessijeanhome?igsh=MnFkc2NqN2R1czN0One of my friends Alex is exploding and her carousels are so simple and repeatable and saveable: https://www.instagram.com/iamalexandriamaria?igsh=ZHdsd3V0bnZ3eHV6Scaling to multiple 6-figures? Most practice owners dramatically underperform at local events. They show up with a table, maybe do a few injury screens, collect some emails, hand out some flyers… and then wonder why almost nobody actually becomes a patient afterward. But the problem usually is not the event itself. It is the strategy used by the practice owner and their team. Because when you have a concentrated group of your target market standing in front of you for hours at a time, that should absolutely turn into real patients, referral relationships, and long-term revenue opportunities for your practice. This episode is essentially a mini masterclass on how to do exactly that. I walked one of my Mastermind members through the specific frameworks, conversations, positioning strategies, and conversion tactics that turn event interactions into actual cash-pay patients. And you can scroll down for a much more detailed checklist of everything you need to do to generate the most cash-pay patients possible. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why most local events fail to generate meaningful patient conversions The exact, proven structure for event injury screens How to guide conversations toward emotional buying triggers Why booking people on the spot changes conversion rates dramatically How to create event offers without sounding pushy or overly salesy The role urgency and scarcity play in event-based offers How to use lead magnets and giveaways more strategically, to generate business for years to come. RHLSTP #609 - Comedian Cancer Frankingstein - Rich hasn't got much to say at the start (hooray) and even then he is not as funny as a man in the audience. His guest is impressionist, comedian and podcaster Matt Forde. They talk about Rich's Mastermind failure (again?), working on Spitting Image and how weird it is that out of all the characters that show has done, it's the puppet of Paddington that has got them into the most trouble, working with the divine genius Alice Levine, interviewing the Prime Minister and other dodgy political figures, why there's a better option than going back in time to kill baby Hitler, plus a long chat about the negatives and surprising positives of having had spinal cancer, why it's helpful to talk about this and why cancer isn't as bad as the possibility of Nottingham Forest getting demoted. Principal Matters: The School Leader's Podcast with William D. Parker
When I was a boy, I loved watching Star Wars. I thought it was incredible when Jedi masters like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Luke Skywalker could persuade others through thought or outwit opponents through their use of “The Force.” Sometimes, I like to describe amazing educators as “Jedis” in their own work. You know that teacher who seems to master any classroom setting, or that inspiring principal who can be both firm and caring at the same time? It's hard to describe what makes them so effective, but good teaching and leadership is both an art and science. In this week's Monday Matters, I'm sharing a recording with one of my longest-running Mastermind groups—a group of Jedi educators. Six years ago, Sheila Vitale at the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce reached out about working with Ohio charter school leaders. We began with a series on my Hats for Leadership, and many of those leaders later transitioned into a Mastermind. For this episode, I invited the group that has been together the longest to record a session with me about how collaboration, coaching, and applying ideas have supported their growth. The takeaway for other leaders is simple: your commitment to collaboration, mutual mentoring, and coaching can protect you from isolation and inspire stronger connections with your teachers, students, and community. As we wrapped up the conversation, I asked each leader for a parting word of advice. I've included their insights below along with their school information. Anne Hyland – “Practice action-research cycles.” School: Franklinton High SchoolLocation: Columbus, OhioWebsite: https://www.franklintonhigh.org/ Jacqueline Flaker – “Find your people.” School: Rittman AcademyLocation: Rittman, OHWebsite: https://www.rittmanacademy.org/staff-directory/ Guyton Mathews – “Practice shared leadership.” School: Cincinatti Collegiate Preparatory AcademyLocation: Cinncinatti, OHWebsite: https://www.ccpalions.org/ Gisele James – “Believe in yourself.” School: PAR Excellence STEM AcademyLocation: Newark, OHWebsite: https://www.parexcellenceacademy.org/ Genesis Henderson – “Remember your why, and don't play the comparison game.” School: Cincinatti Collegiate Preparatory AcademyLocation: Cinncinatti, OHWebsite: https://www.ccpalions.org/ Laura Krulik – “Treat others as you want to be treated.” School: Utica Shale AcademyLocation: Salineville, OHWebsite: http://www.uticashaleschool.com/ Bill Watson – “Leadership is building others to accomplish the mission.” School: Utica Shale AcademyLocation: Salineville, OHWebsite: http://www.uticashaleschool.com/ Maria Rodgers – “Always take time to pause and reflect before taking action.” School: SCOPE AcademyLocation: Akron, OHWebsite: https://sites.google.com/scopeacademy.org/main Heather Wenger “You can't do it alone. Ask for help.” School: Arts and College Preparatory AcademyLocation: Columbus, OHWebsite: https://apcacad.org/ I'm grateful to each of these leaders, to Sheila Vitale, and to Adkins & Company for supporting the work we do with leaders across the state. Listen to the full conversation for even more takeaways. The post MONDAY MATTERS: Jedi Lessons from Legacy Mastermind Leaders appeared first on Principal Matters.
If you've ever said "I feel like I have all the pieces but something still isn't clicking" — this episode is going to reframe everything. In Part 2 of the Six-Figure Quarter series, I'm introducing you to the lens I use to look at every single business I work with: the ecosystem model. Once you see your business this way, you can't unsee it. And more importantly, you'll finally be able to identify why things feel scattered, why revenue feels inconsistent, and why working harder isn't moving the needle. This isn't about finding the missing tactic. It's about understanding the missing architecture — and how to build a business where every single piece is doing its job to move someone toward your anchor offer, without you being the glue holding it all together.I also walk through the exact process I take CEO Mastermind clients through when we build out their ecosystem design — including a real example from a client I just onboarded this week.Key Takeaways:What a healthy business ecosystem actually looks like — and the sneaky ways an unhealthy one bleeds your energy before you even noticeWhy the symptom you're trying to fix is almost never the real problem (and where to actually look)What an anchor offer is, why you need one, and how everything else in your business should relate to itThe difference between a business with rhythm and one that's just a collection of disconnected ideas and offersHow the client journey actually works — and what happens when your ecosystem is cohesive vs. when people are left wanderingLinks:The CEO Mastermind® — where we build your ecosystem design together: [LINK]Run your entire business on one platform. Strauss highlights that while tactics are for amateurs, logistics are for professionals, citing Marcus Agrippa as the mastermind behind Octavian's strategy. Instead of invading Italy, Antony and Cleopatra waited in western Greece, allowing Agrippa to strike first in early 31 BC. Agrippa launched a daring, pre-dawn amphibious assault on Methone, a vital supply base guarded by the deposed King Bogud. This surprise victory effectively severed Antony's supply lines from Egypt, trapping his fleet at Actium. Antony's forces were soon plagued by hunger and disease in the malarial swamps of the Greek coast. Strauss explains that Agrippa utilized local guides and superior naval training to achieve this logistical "one-two punch." By the time the main battle arrived, Antony was already strategically defeated, his options limited to a desperate breakout attempt rather than a coordinated offensive. Agrippa's foresight turned the naval engagement into a foregone conclusion. (5/8)457 AMBROSIAN ILLIAD
When a deal hits a rough patch, most syndicators go quiet — and that's exactly when investors panic.
