Vinnie Fiorello (The Punk Rock Museum) The Rad Dads Show and The Punk Rock Museum are kicking off Father's Week (it's official, we get a week now!) with this interview with Vinnie Fiorello, formerly of Less Than Jake, Fueled by Ramen Records, Paper + Plastick, and now the Punk Rock Museum. He's also a dad to Lily, and stopped by to tell us how he “surfs the waves” of parenting.
When you think "music" and "Las Vegas" there's likely a few names that come to mind almost instantly like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Liberace or Wayne Newton. But I'm willing to bet that "Punk Rock" isn't even on your radar. However, a new attraction, sandwiched between the growing Arts District and the World-Famous Las Vegas Strip is hoping to change that. The recently-opened Punk Rock Museum houses the world's largest collection of Punk Rock artifacts & memorabilia including posters, instruments, clothing, and artwork - all donated by the people who LIVED it. My guest for this episode of the podcast is Vinnie Fiorello, the former drummer & lyricist for the Ska-Punk band, Less Than Jake. Vinnie is also the Chief Marketing Officer and one of the co-founders of the museum. Vinnie & I talked about the inspiration behind the foundation of the museum, some of the notable names who've come together to create the museum, and the incredibly unique experiences offered by the Punk Rock Museum. Earlier this year Vi Viana released her first ska song in years. The song, "Burning The Bridge," (by her band Gutless) is a serious song about coping with trauma and abuse and features Jer on horns. One of the reasons she wrote the song was to push back on people's (false) idea that ska is silly music. Vi has been a fan of ska since she was a child. She was born and raised in northeast Brazil. Her mom introduced her to the music via The Specials and Brazilian bands like Os Paralamas do Sucesso. At 10, her family moved to Miami and she got into bands like Aquabats and Less Than Jake. But eventually, she would discover a great local scene at the Talent Farm. On today's episode with Vi, we discuss ska in Brazil (Abraskadabra, O Leopardo, Móveis Coloniais de Acaju), Jer's early ska band "Funkman's Inferno," why she sings in English and Portuguese (and how Less Than Jake's Vinnie Fiorello suggested she do it!), and we talk about the brilliant community on Ska Twitter, and new artists like Kmoy, Tapegirl, We Are The Union, Best of the Worst, Half Past Two, Catbite and Eichlers. We also discuss how her music was influenced by her identity as a Brazilian, an immigrant and a queer person. Oh, and we even mention her old ska-punk band Sluggage. Hey there friends, I hope you all are doing well and having a wonderful and productive day. I am very excited because today, I'm speaking with my friend Mr. Danny Freeman. Danny is in the UK pop punk alternative band A Few Too Many. He is the guitarist/co-vocalist for the band. Danny is also the founder and curator of the FB group The Pop Punk Networking Group. I wanted to have Danny on for a couple of reasons. One, I wanted to know what it was like being in a band across the pond in 2021. Especially considering how many bands have been popping up from that area infiltrating and inspiring the scene. I also wanted to know how Danny became such a networker and why that is such an important element when a person decides to do anything in this life. I wanted to know what inspired that. A Few Too Many was recently signed to Lost Music Collective co-founded by Vinnie Fiorello, the previous drummer of Less Than Jake and one of the co-founders of Fueled by Ramen Records. We talk about that, Fall Out Boy, and what it's like to get on the same page in a creative endeavor. It's a fun listen, I know you'll take away something from this conversation. So, without further ado, please enjoy my wide-ranging conversation with Mr. Danny Freeman.
Vinnie Fiorello's newest project The Inevitables incorporates multiple mediums including music and comic books. It was a personal challenge to one, just to see if he could do it, but also to exorcise some personal demons while reflecting on the first act of his life spent in vans and tour buses crisscrossing the world as a touring musician. Not only did he complete the mission of writing a complete story every day, the result is a collection of tales that are sometimes highly personal and heart wrenching, sometimes laugh out loud funny. Each tale is filled with irreverence and life lessons as the author tackles issues like wasted youth, the pains of growing older, and other universal topics that made him famous as the lyricist of the punk band Less Than Jake, a band known for its incredibly catchy music matched with Fiorello’s universally themed yet personal lyrics. Today we begin our in-depth look and conversation about the anthology by listening to the first four chapters of the book, followed by a brief conversation between Jim Tramontana and Vinnie Fiorello. Less Than Jake has been making music since the mid-'90s, and their ska-punk sound is just as popular now as it was during the third wave's heyday. The man behind the drum kit, Vinnie Fiorello, is the mastermind behind many of the band's most popular songs, and so it was a real treat to get him on the phone to talk about the band's work in films like Good Burger and Scream 2, as well as his latest project, the Inevitables. The Inevitables' Kickstarter ends at midnight EST on Thursday, September 3.

It's a new world we're living in... but at least sports are back. This week, tune in as Jaret and Gary chat fantasy leagues, coaches, and foiled tailgating plans. Of course if you're not headed to the field, you're probably still partaking in less-than-active activities. The guys cover those too, from comic books to Minecraft dragons, before welcoming this week's guests. The super-duper ska group The Inevitables calls in to talk about their new music and the fantastical story that goes with it. Made up of Vinnie Fiorello & Obi Fernandez, the bandmates and dads share how they maintain a work balance and "break the cycle" with their own families. New Geekscape time! As the drummer and lyricist for the popular ska punk band Less Than Jake, Vinnie Fiorello helped define the soundtrack to my life. As one of the co-founders of Fueled By Ramen Records, he introduced the world to bands like Fall Out Boy, Paramore, The Gym Class Heroes and Geekscape's favorite band and theme song artist Punchline! He also has his own collectible toy line and shop, new indie publishing label and more! Now Vinnie is a guest on the Geekscape podcast to talk about his new creative pursuit: the ska and comic book hybrid 'The Inevitables'! Fans of The Umbrella Academy, Tank Girl and Y: The Last Man will probably love 'The Inevitables', which also features the talents of Obi Fernandez (Westbound Train, Meen Machine) Jono Diener (The Swellers), Alex Stern (Big D and the Kids Table), Matt Appleton (Reel Big Fish), Billy Kottage (The Interrupters) and more! Welcome to the first episode of the NEW Concentric Circles, the show all about being a creative professional in the 21st century. In this action packed episode Vinnie Fiorello, Obi Fernandez, Jon Diener and Jim Tramontana have a frank discussion about the importance of trust when working in creative teams. The dudes share personal experiences from the bands they've been as well as the tons of other creative projects they've been associated with over the years. Some of you may recall Concentric Circles originally was conceived as a creativity podcast, but because of various extenuating circumstances we put the project on hold. And now, like a phoenix reborn from its own ashes, the show has been resurrected to a more glorious and elaborate format. By taking advantage of the increased availability and the consumption of online streaming, we are proud to announce the show will be live on Twitch and then rebroadcast over various social media and podcast platforms. Another exciting development is the show itself doubled in size, including musical and literary luminaries Obi Fernandez of Westbound Train and Jono Diener of Swellers to round out the original hosts Vinnie Fiorello (Less Than Jake) and, me, Jim Tramontana (you know me. I write, I rock...) Each of the four hosts brings a unique perspective on what it means to be a creative professional in the 21st century. We look forward to sharing insights, tips, and tricks from the quartet and from exciting guests who are out there crushing it. This episode broadcast live on June 11tH at 6:30 PM Eastern standard time at twitch.tv/concentriccircles. We hope that this is the start of a thriving community where in-depth discussions can begin and radiate out, inspiring and educating us all to be more prolific creators and enrich the world with our gifts and creations. He is the co-founder of Fueled by Ramen Records, founder of Paper and Plastick Records, an author, a toy-maker, a tattoo shop owner and the drummer of Less Than Jake (the only band to rival Kiss in the sheer volume of band merchandise they’ve created in their 26-year career).
