    Magnesium and your mental sanity

    Let's talk about how to attend to chronic pain, memory loss, and depression. What does magnesium have to do with that, you ask?My answer: lots! Feel inspire to add, e.g., almonds,  cashews, peanuts, for extra magnesium.  Let's dive in!Also, here is a resource for you that lists how your magnesium intake should be coordinated with other vitamins and minerals. Enjoy!P.S.:Let's not forget that magnesium needs to be in balance with calcium. They have opposite functions — for example calcium contracts muscles, magnesium relaxes muscles. The ideal ratio of calcium to magnesium is thought to be 1:1 to 2:1 so if you're getting say 800 mg calcium, you'd need 400 – 800 mg magnesium. That's a whole lot more than the 200 mg that most people get.     Sustainability 101: What's In It for Me?

    Today I want to do a very surface scratch on the idea of sustainability, which a lot of times has been used with regards to describing activities or ways how enterprises or procedures are set up, that are able to then conserve or preserve the resources in this world, in the longer term. And we often do not even give a second thought to well food or clothing medicine have come from. Yet if we are taking a more sustainability oriented lens, we should just remember how our parents, grandparents, or great grandparents, used plants, for example, to eat to cure diseases, and to create clothing. And as we return to the very roots as to the plants that we have close to us, around us, we may find that these capacities that we may have set aside as we learn to find production of clothing, food medicine, elsewhere, cheaper than where we are, that indeed, looking at these things in our neighborhood, can really help to sustain us in a different way. A Western mindset  has moved us away from that connection with ourselves in the present moment, as well as with the knowledge from our ancestors.     Foods against brain farts and for mental well-being

    Learn about how you can overturn your "brain fart" or forgetfulness and brain fog! There are a lot of helpful things we can do to protect our cognitive health. Believe it or not, the brain is composed of about half and half fat and water! Getting enough healthy fats in the diet will help nourish the brain - think things like olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds, and of course, omega-3 fats at least twice a week from seafood, ground flaxseed and chia seeds.    Staying hydrated will also lubricate the brain and help it function properly. In the last few years, there has also been research on how excess sugars can "gunk up" the brain, and may contribute to the development of dementia.Focusing on building a plate with mostly proteins with healthy fats, vegetables and whole grains, limiting sugary drinks and treats to once or twice a week, and drinking at least 8 cups of fluids daily can help keep up brain health. Reading the future:Do you find yourself predicting how you will react if you engage in certain activities or go specific places? Or do you often predict how others will react? Do you avoid situations, or alter the way that you live in a self-protective manner?4. Obsessing about fear: (of chemicals, fatigue, pain or anxiety):Do you find yourself constantly worrying about the future or your state of health? I5. Mood changes:Do you often find yourself feeling helpless, sad, resentful, angry, depressed or anxious? Do you feel like you are on an emotional rollercoaster? Do you have thoughts of suicide?6.
