His debut as a marathon competitor occurred December 3, 2016 at the California International Marathon (CIM). With a finish time of 2:31:48, Davis set a new American record for the T12/B2 visual impairment category. Chaz's CIM finish time was 29 seconds faster than the 2:32:17 finish of Paralympian Gold Medalist El Amin Chentouf at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. The 2016 Rio games marked another first for Davis. As a member of Team USA's track and field contingency, he finished 8th in the 5000m and 10th in the 1500m. CIM prides itself as a starting block for would be marathon runners. The CIM website notes being a qualifier event for the oldest continuously running Boston Marathon and US Olympic Trials Marathon. In yet another personal best, Davis ran the 122nd Boston Marathon on Monday April 16, 2018. Although he broke no records, Boston.com lists Chaz 5th among its 15 notable 2018 Boston Marathon finishers. His official end time was 2:56:22. Davis began his career as a teen racing for Grafton High School in MA. Determined to excel, he entered the University of Hartford and accepted a position on its cross country team. Shortly after completing his inaugural running season, Davis was diagnosed with Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). This rare disease destroys the optic nerve in the eye typically resulting in sudden vision loss which was the case for Chaz. Despite his legally blind classification, Chaz continues to make lemonade with his lemons. Davis currently works at the Massachusetts Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, a division of MAB Community services in the Greater Boston area. As the coordinator of Team With A Vision's para-athletics division and adaptive programs, Davis is responsible for leading the team of athletes. Having a master's degree in social work Davis will also work in the adjustment to vision loss counseling department. Our News is sponsored by Buddy Insurance. Endurance News: What We Learned from Tracking Cycling Deaths for a Year In December, the driver of a box truck plowed into a group of cyclists riding along U.S. Highway 95 south of Las Vegas. Five people died in the crash, and it was later discovered that the driver had methamphetamine in his system. At Outside, we were horrified by the tragedy, which was covered in local and national news, but we also knew it was part of a troubling trend: record numbers of cyclists (and thousands of pedestrians) on our nation’s roads are being killed by drivers often without any media attention beyond a brief local news story. In 2018, 857 cyclists died in crashes with drivers, the deadliest year for people on bikes since 1990. In 2019, while the total number of deaths dipped slightly, to 846, cities like New York recorded their highest number of cyclist fatalities ever. Last January, in response to those disturbing numbers, we launched the #2020CyclingDeaths project, which aimed to track every person on a bike killed by a driver in the U.S. over the course of the year. In the end, we recorded 697 cyclist deaths. Since we were only able to count deaths reported by local media, the actual total is likely significantly higher. The five victims of the Nevada crash were numbers 662 through 666 in our database. In late December, we partnered with the nonprofit BikeMaps.org, founded by Trisalyn Nelson, a professor in geographic information science at the University of California at Santa Barbara. BikeMaps.org has been collecting crowdsourced information about cyclist crashes, near misses, traffic hazards (like potholes and road construction), and bike thefts in the U.S. and Canada since 2014. Its team helped us analyze the data we collected and synthesize the information. While the overall number of cyclists deaths in 2020 appears to be lower than the past couple of years, likely because of the spring lockdowns in response to the pandemic, there is no sign that our streets are getting safer. Here’s what we found. Zwift bans two more virtual racers for ‘data manipulation’ The online training and racing platform has handed out more sanctions to riders it believes edited their power files Zwift has banned two more riders from virtual racing for alleged data manipulation. The online training and racing platform has released details of two more sanctions it has handed to riders accused of manipulating their power data after competing in online races. Both riders, Antonina Reznikov and Selma Trommer, have been banned from competing in official Zwift e-sports events for six months, after the Zwift Performance Verification Board found anomalies in the numbers. Reznikov, from Israel, has been sanctioned after competing in the Zwift Racing League (Season 2) Women’s Race 1 event, where she finished in fourth place. Announcing its decision, the Zwift performance board said following the race Zwift’s automated systems found that dual-recorded data from the rider’s power meter may have been edited, leading to further investigation. Maybe you’re aiming to get a competitive edge, increase your uphill power, or improve your performance on sprints. Whatever your goals are, resistance training with bands will be the key to unlocking next-level performance. Why Resistance Band Training is Good for Cyclists To become a more efficient cyclist, even the most-beginner level riders need to incorporate some form of strength training into their weekly training routines. Factoring in just one to three workouts a week can produce significant results that will directly feed your performance on the bike. Unless you’re a professional cyclist, the chances are you don’t have much time in your daily life to devote to extensive cross-training routines. Embarking on a progressive weight training program at the gym is all well and good for those who can devote their lives to cycling, but time is of the essence when it comes to balancing your job, family, and hobbies. This is why you need to start doing regular resistance band training. No matter where you are or how little time you have, resistance bands can give you an effective workout without the hassle of having to travel to the gym or set up awkward equipment. For a dynamic sport like cycling, resistance bands have the edge over conventional weights and dumbbells. When performing a banded exercise, the entire range of motion is carried out under tension, meaning that you activate and strengthen muscles on both the movement’s eccentric and concentric phases. Eccentric training can lead to more robust and resilient muscles, enhanced joint control and proprioception, and even reduce the post-workout fatigue you may experience. We have come to a time in life where cleanliness, being organized, effective personal hygiene, food choices and even the common sense to save a dollar on a deal, is considered “Gay”. We have all made the joke or said the term, I do apologize if it offends, yet most times this joke is made in a way to insinuate that a small thing or occurrence makes you look less manly than you say you are. Where I’m getting lost is when did washing your own ass become a problem? When did eating a banana become something other men paid attention to each other doing? When did being groomed properly become a non standard? You know what the issue is? You men who carry this tradition either have no fathers or are on the DL and this is your security blanket. "The Delights of Dogs and The Problems of People is a study of domestic abuse. It asks what causes a mind to unravel and why we don’t recognise the dangers lurking under our own roofs until it’s too late. This is not a story of a monster and a victim – life is not that simple. Performed by Duncan Wilkins (Romeo and Juliet, MokitaGrit) and Rosalind Blessed (Octavia, RSC Barbican) and directed by Caroline Devlin (King Lear, Guildford Shakespeare Company), the production holds dear the pure love of a dog and an owner even as human relationships become destructive. 09/17/2018 The History of Precious Metals Gold & Silver have been considered true wealth and a monetary asset since the beginning of written human history. Every civilization that has engaged in commerce has used gold & silver as their primary forms of wealth and monetary trade. This pattern has continued unhindered for 4000+ years. Repeatedly challenged by one great empire after the next, powerful rulers have chosen to debase the currency and convert it to a fiat based currency backed by nothing. In every single case, this has been followed by a full economic collapse. Our constitution demanded that all money be coined in gold & silver and regulated by the US Congress. This was inadvertently and unconstitutionally handed over to the PRIVATELY OWNED AND OPERATED Federal Reserve Bank in 1913 including the 16TH amendment allowing for direct taxation(on income) which was also constitutionally forbidden. Since this time we have survived on fiat currency, we have abandoned the gold standard in whole and are now on a runaway train of fiat currency creation with neither party objecting. It is as simple as a period if time before the crash occurs. This crash will literally leave all paper assets in an ash heap. Precious metals have endured and survived every crash throughout history and are biblically endorsed and authorizeed, allowing people to safely protect their assets in a product that has, does and will always survive all economic challenges.
William Shakespeare’s oldest daughter, Susanna, married Dr. John Hall when she was 24 years old. John was a faithful son in law to William Shakespeare, and as a medical doctor in Stratford had a unique look at what it was like to live and work in a small town of the 16th century England. John Hall’s surviving case books help Shakespeare historians piece together many realities about Shakespeare’s life, not the least of which is some of the medicinal herbs and treatments the bard and his family may have used while living in Stratford. To help us get to know Dr. John Hall, his medical practice, and his relationship to William Shakespeare, Dr. Sara Read is here to explore the life and works of the good doctor from Stratford Upon Avon. Dr. Sara Read is a lecturer in English at Loughborough University and is a specialist in early modern health and medicine. Her first academic monograph along with her history publication from 2015 focused on the reproductive health of women in the 16th century, while most recently she has co-authored a popular book on the history of 16-17th century disease and illness called Maladies and Medicine: Exploring Health and Healing, 1540-1740. Sara and her co author were featured in Shakespeare Magazine’s 13th Issue, which came out this year, sharing some of the more bizarre medical practices which were common in Shakespeare’s lifetime. Sara joins us today to focus on one of the topics covered in her book: the life and practices of Shakespeare’s son in law, Dr. John Hall, and what studying his life can tell us about William Shakespeare.

Watershed moments are those pivotal events on which history turns and the course of an entire nation can shift. Unfortunately, they are seldom recognized as such until many years later. In 1913, America experienced at least 3 watershed moments that have led us to serious consequences more than a century later. This reality underscores the importance of considering not only that which is seen when enacting a public policy but also the unintended consequences which are often not immediately seen.

You are in a Battle of Ideas. It will be getting more intense and you will be immersed in it. How you decide to deal with those ideas will determine if you are successful and if the right ideas are successful. Lincoln fought in the realm of ideas and the issue of slavery is extremely parallel to the abortion issue. Lincoln is also our example for how we must deal with the Supreme Court's decision to deny legal rights, or the 'Right To Life' to vulnerable human beings. Abortion and slavery very parallel in California. The child in the womb has no rights. The Several states even pays for the abortion and the abortion industry. Air Date: 2-11-2017

Most of us are familiar with the achievements of Galileo and Newton, but who were their peers? And what was it like to practice science in the 16th and 17th centuries? Come geek out with us as we travel back in time and explore what the world was like when science and the supernatural were not so far apart. We talk to two historians of science, Deborah Harkness and James Voelkel. Harkness is the author of The Jewel House: Elizabethan London and the Scientific Revolution as well asthe All Soul’s Trilogy, a popular fantasy series filled with witches, vampires, demons, scientists, and historians. Voelkel is the curator of rare books at CHF and an expert on Johannes Kepler, a 17th-century astronomer, mathematician, and astrologer. Though we were unable to time travel for this show (much to our dismay), we did get to visit the Making and Knowing Project’s laboratory at Columbia University, where a group of historians of science are reconstructing a 16th-century workshop and re-creating recipes from an anonymous craftsperson’s manuscript. And we made this video. From early in 1754 the Seven Year war started to bubble into full scale global conflict. In North America French and British colonists clashed over trade and disputed territory. In May 1756 the first naval action took place at Minorca in the Mediterranean where the British were forced to withdraw, opening up hostilities in Europe. In India the French and British East India Companies vied for influence over the region in a series for proxy conflicts as each would support local rulers against one another. At Plassey Robert Clive won a victory that would help secure the close relationship between Britain and India for the next 200 years. Dur: 16mins File: .mp3

WARREN S. RICHARDSON, J.D. Attorney at Law May 5, 2000 Mr. William J. Benson Constitutional Scholar 1128 East 160th Place South Holland, IL 60473 You may address me simply as Warren and I’ll call you Bill. My first comment is to applaud you for the tremendous amount of work you have done in bringing to light the enormous volume of factual data- over 17,000 pages of certified government documents from each of the 48 states (the number in 1913) as well as from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. In fact, the whole project, which includes your two books, is truly monumental. Before going to the subject of your books-the 16th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was not properly ratified-I wish to lay some groundwork. In 1895 the United States Supreme Court ruled a direct income tax to be unconstitutional in the case of Pollock v. Farmer’s Loan and Trust Company (158 U.S. 601). Since our forefathers who established our form of government (a republic, not a democracy) by splitting the federal power into three equal branches (legislative, judicial, and administrative), it was clearly within the Court’s discretion to render their verdict in the Pollock case. The Supreme Court’s decision in that case can only be changed by one of two methods: The Supreme Court, assuming it has valid reasoning, could reverse the Pollock case; or, An Amendment to the Constitution authorizing a direct income tax could be passed by a vote of two-thirds of both houses of Congress and then ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the States. Following the procedure of item 2, above, the Secretary of State has the duty of announcing to the public, the President, and the Congress that a proposed amendment has been accepted or rejected. The people who wished to overturn the Pollock case chose the second alternative. In my professional opinion your two books demonstrate, at least to me, that the 16th Amendment was not properly ratified even though the Secretary of State made the public announcement that it had been properly ratified. When only four states of the required 38 ratified it properly, how could it be considered valid? In view of the facts, how could it become a valid part of our Constitution? Since the Pollock case has not been reversed by the Supreme Court, what is the legal framework upon which the current income tax law is based? Although I am a lawyer, it is important to note that I am not a constitutional scholar; therefore I do not speak as one. As noted above, it is my opinion that, based on your overwhelming evidence, the 16th Amendment was not properly ratified. Furthermore, I believe that it is imperative to have legal scholars in constitutional law study this matter deeply and render their opinions on whether the 16th Amendment was properly ratified. Provided they come to the same conclusion we do (that it was not properly ratified), what would be the logical next move? That last question is a real tough one because of the politics involved. Assume that the Supreme Court rules upon a case properly brought before it that the tax system of the U.S. is not legal. Can you even visualize the reaction of the members of Congress? Bill, you have done a magnificent job in providing the factual data about whether the 16th Amendment was properly ratified. I am hopeful that we can find the scholars who will go to the next step and suggest what should be done now. Thanks for your hard work. You have done a great service to your country. Sincerely, P.S.: Since a personal letter cannot be distributed, or even shown, to anyone other than the recipient without permission of the author, I hereby authorize you to show it (not publish it) to other people at your discretion.
Matthew was a Jew who worked for the occupying Roman forces, collecting taxes from other Jews. The Romans were not scrupulous about what the "tax farmers" got for themselves. Hence the latter, known as "publicans," were generally hated as traitors by their fellow Jews. The Pharisees lumped them with "sinners" (see Matthew 9:11-13). So it was shocking to them to hear Jesus call such a man to be one of his intimate followers. Matthew got Jesus in further trouble by having a sort of going-away party at his house. The Gospel tells us that "many" tax collectors and "those known as sinners" came to the dinner. The Pharisees were still more badly shocked. What business did the supposedly great teacher have associating with such immoral people? Jesus' answer was, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' I did not come to call the righteous but sinners" (Matthew 9:12b-13). Jesus is not setting aside ritual and worship; he is saying that loving others is even more important.

“Can anything good ever come out of Nazareth?” This is certainly a question for the ages and St. Bartholomew the Apostle asked it in the first century; when he heard his friend, St. Philip, speak about the Messiah from Nazareth. There is not much known of St. Bartholomew, he only appears in the gospel occasionally. We do know that he was born, in the first century of Hebrew descent, the son of Tolmai, in the Province of Iudaca. Although a non-believer, St. Bartholomew often known as Nathaniel accepted the invitation of St. Philip to meet Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus immediately recognized St. Bartholomew “as a man in whom there is no deception.” Jesus told Bartholomew that before Philip had introduced them, he had seen him under the fig tree, apparently a Jewish term for studying the Torah. St. Bartholomew was said to have been very well liked among the apostles and very inquisitive. He constantly barraged Jesus with questions about God, angels and mysteries. Jesus promised him “Amen, Amen, I say to you, you will see the heavens open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” St. Bartholomew finally recognized Jesus as the King of Israel and accepted him as the Son of God. He joined the chosen ones as the sixth apostle. Bartholomew and the eleven others were together in Bethany at Mount Olive, forty days after the resurrection to witness the Ascension. After the Ascension, Bartholomew traveled to Ethiopia, India, Persia and Armenia. He is reputed to have spread Christianity to the East, leaving copies of the gospel of Matthew as he went. Among his hundreds of converts, were the King of Armenia, Polymius, and many of his subjects. This met with disapproval of the King’s brother, Astyages, who immediately sentenced Bartholomew to death. He died a martyr’s death, as did so many of the apostles, by being flayed alive and beheaded. This is why we see him represented in Michelangelo’s painting of “The Last Judgment” in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. He is holding a knife in one hand and the skin of his body in the other. St. Bartholomew is the Patron Saint of tanners and we celebrate his Feast Day on August 24th.
Well after a heavy start to the semi-finals last week, the music has mellowed slightly with three very popular bands battling it out for a place in the final. Basement Services had the honour of starting the ceremony, and even though there was a slight glitch with a guitar string breaking, it was an excellent start to the show. The strong audience thrived on the epic skills of this band, with much kudos going to the sheer talent of the lads and their musical skills. Let’s not forget our female vocalist, who has a unique voice, which can only be described as gravelly. She puts her own mark to the lyrics and the style she sings them in. With the inclusion of a funk cover, this band had a range that created so much final potential for them. Second up saw the return of Wave Goodbye Sunset, and some of their tracks that originally secured them this spot in the semis. A bit more relaxed than Basement Services, WGS had the attitude that their music has you engrossed. There is no denying that this indie act had a sense of melancholy intertwined with the lyrics and instrumentals. The crowd loved them, which caused confusion as to which band they were actually here to support. Music seemed to be the actual winner tonight, but with two strong acts so far Upon Collide needed to pull all the stops out to win. Let’s just say that the strings were pulled. Upon Collide is one of those bands that seem to have everything. They had the audience at their beck and call. With the banter on stage to the most stunning voice the lead vocalist delivers with, the odds were certainly looking better for this band. Upon Collide had brilliant songs, great adaptations of covers and another request for an encore. The crowd loved them but then the crowd apparently loved them all. The discussions backstage all involved comments about who the crowd were here to support. This was genuinely going to be a close call, with three talented bands all deserving that final place after their performances tonight. To find out which band the crowd loved the most, check out the podcast. With one more place left in the final, things are definitely hotting up at Soundclash, and we’re loving every minute of it. Stratcast will also be doing a feature length special for the final, so listen out for more details on the next show.
Soundclash returns with a heavier sound again this week, but sadly it seemed to lack something that previous rounds have had. Maybe it was the pure energy of last week’s bands that saw a room full of appreciative fans that the bar has been raised and so we are expecting so much more. First up was Koss (don’t ask where the name came from) who were a two-man band trying to take the lead in this competition. Now there was nothing wrong with their tracks, in fact, there were a couple that were particularly strong, but the lack of stage presence and energy made them look like they were the pre-warmer. The instrumental skills of these two men were impressive but not enough to grab your attention. The crowd did warm to them, but if they were to go through, more was needed of them. Following Koss was Doktors Rendezvous, which contained members from week one winners The Death of Johnny Alpha. Now there was definitely more of a stage presence, and quite a rocky set was delivered. Not enough wow factor as Johnny Alpha, but definite contenders to go through to the next round. I assume it’s the pressures of being in more than one band, but hey, if you want to win Soundclash… Some enjoyable tracks and the crowd seemed to like these more. What happens if it is a Johnny Alpha versus Doktors Rendezvous semi final will make very interesting viewing, but they had Sanctified Torture to compete with as well before a guaranteed round two place. Sanctified Torture had recovered from their bout of flu, which saw them drop out from a previous week, and was here to show that metal rock is here to stay. These guys had what you expected, with impressive skills on vocals and instruments. They were definite crowd pleasers with some dedicated followers vying for their success. Only the votes would decide if they had done enough to secure entry into round two. Check out the latest podcast to see which band did triumph, and tune in live on Wednesday from 8pm for the next lot of bands battling it out to get that coveted Soundclash title.
