Friday Bible Study (9/19/25) // 2 Kings 25:8-21 (ESV) // Fall and Captivity of Judah8 In the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month—that was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon—Nebuzaradan, the captain of the bodyguard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. 9 And he burned the house of the Lord and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he burned down. 10 And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem. 11 And the rest of the people who were left in the city and the deserters who had deserted to the king of Babylon, together with the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried into exile. 12 But the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and plowmen.13 And the pillars of bronze that were in the house of the Lord, and the stands and the bronze sea that were in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried the bronze to Babylon. 14 And they took away the pots and the shovels and the snuffers and the dishes for incense and all the vessels of bronze used in the temple service, 15 the fire pans also and the bowls. What was of gold the captain of the guard took away as gold, and what was of silver, as silver. 16 As for the two pillars, the one sea, and the stands that Solomon had made for the house of the Lord, the bronze of all these vessels was beyond weight. 17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits,[a] and on it was a capital of bronze. The height of the capital was three cubits. A latticework and pomegranates, all of bronze, were all around the capital. And the second pillar had the same, with the latticework.18 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold; 19 and from the city he took an officer who had been in command of the men of war, and five men of the king's council who were found in the city; and the secretary of the commander of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land, who were found in the city. 20 And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. 21 And the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. With words very similar to the contemporary prophet Isaiah, Micah speaks about the coming days when the mountain of the LORD will be lifted above all other mountains, causing peoples to stream to the LORD's house to hear His Word. When you come upon an impossibility in life, keep this at the forefront of your mind: there is a God who can do the impossible. Happy Saturn’s Day – the day of the week named for Saturn, the second-largest planet in the solar system. And the name is especially fitting today, because the planet is at its best for the entire year. It looks like a bright star, shining all night long. The seven-day week was created in ancient Babylon. The days were named for the seven known “planets.” The list included the Sun, Moon, and the five true planets that are easily visible to the naked eye. The day was split into 24 hours, with each hour named for a planet. The planets were ranked by how long it took them to cross through the background of stars. Saturn takes the longest, so it was number one on the list. Each day was named for the planet that came up in the first hour of that day. So “Saturn’s Day” was the first day of the week. That changed later on, especially in the Christian era, when the week began a day later, on the Sun’s Day – Sunday. Other than Saturn and the Sun and Moon- Saturday, Sunday, and Monday – old English adopted the planet names from the Norse pantheon of gods. Tuesday is named for Tiw – the representation of Mars. It’s followed by Woden, Thor, and Freya – Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus – celestial names for the days of the week. Saturn is low in the east at nightfall, and looks like a bright star. 1 Chronicles 3 records the sons of David and their genealogy through Solomon to Zerubbabel the Governor under the returned exiles from Babylon around 537 BC. Jeconiah was a descendant of king Solomon David's son. But that man was disinherited by the LORD, who said of Jeconiah verses "write this man childless ... no son of his will prosper, nor sit on David's throne verses Jeremiah 22 verses 24-30. The two branches of David's family came together in Zerubbabel by way of a Levirate marriage. Matthew 1 records Jesus' legal right to the throne through Joseph (the guardian of our Lord) as recorded there. Whereas Luke 3 records Mary's genealogy and therefore that our Lord Jesus Christ's actual ancestral line through Nathan David's son. In Ezekiel 16 we have a description of Israel Yahweh's faithless wife. Her descent is said, spiritually, to be from Amorite stock - the earliest of the Canaanitish nations (meaning "great of mouth") and the Amorites were of giant stature as Deuteronomy tells us. Israel's father is said to be a Hittite from the powerful kingdom of the Hathi originally in Turkey and among the mightiest empires of that time - rivalling Egypt. Yahweh Israel's Sovereign Lord had pity on His people and took her unto Himself as His wife in love. How did Israel repay her God's loving kindness; only by scorning Him and prostituting herself without payment. God would judge her as the profligate covenant breaker that she was. But her younger sister, Judah, behaved no better. The Almighty describes them as being of the same sisterhood as Sodom, whose abominable lewdness was legendary. Nonetheless the time would come when the repentant daughters would again be covenanted by the everlasting kindness of Yahweh in the Kingdom of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. In Luke 12 the Lord counsels regarding the destructive teachings of the Pharisees. Our Lord Jesus says to his followers to have no fear when they are tried and killed by the religious authorities. This is because our Father has power over everything - including life and death. When giving testimony before rulers believers would be aided in their witness. In the parable in this chapter of the rich fool (based on the life of Nabal in 1 Samuel 25) our Lord refuses to arbitrate in a property dispute between two brothers. Instead, Jesus turns the opportunity into a discussion about the dangers of covetousness and the need to be rich in loving service to God at all times. Christ urges the disciples to be free from anxiety. Look at nature and the Almighty's abundantly providing out of His richness. Disciples need, as wise and faithful servants, to be in a state of continual readiness for their Lord's coming. A constant challenge for disciples is that often times family opposition will be the result of a person's acceptance of Christ. As disciples we must be alert to the era in which we live. Our Master is standing at the doorpost of our hearts and knocking Revelation 3 verses 20-21. Finally, if believers find themselves in a dispute, they need to quickly reach agreement with their adversaries, or the results may be much worse. Udo Dirkschneider is making waves again with Dirkschneider & The Old Gang (often shortened to DATOG), a new all-star collaboration that draws deep from his legendary roots in Accept and U.D.O. The group includes longtime comrades Peter Baltes (bass, ex-Accept), Stefan Kaufmann (guitar, ex-Accept & U.D.O.), Mathias Dieth (guitar, Sinner/U.D.O.), his son Sven Dirkschneider (drums), and singer Manuela Bibert. Together, they've released singles such as “Where The Angels Fly”, “Face Of A Stranger”, “Every Heart Is Burning”, and more recently “Time To Listen”. The excitement builds toward their debut DATOG album Babylon, due out in October 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music. Alongside the DATOG project, Udo is revisiting the Accept catalog in powerful ways. Like Jonah before him, the prophet Nahum preaches devastation and ruin for Ninevah, only this time Ninevah doesn't repent. Ninevah was the capital of Assyria, a nation of unparalleled power and wealth which had recently decimated the nation of Israel. Though they thought themselves to be secure from danger, their downfall came after nearby rivers flooded the city and destroyed part of the city wall, allowing Babylon to enter easily and set it ablaze. The world hates Jesus; therefore, it will hate us. (John 15:18) 6. What Satan meant for evil, God will work for good. (Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28)   Word of Exhortation for the Church: 1. Words can murder; don't let your words turn to bullets. 2. Judgmental expectations are divisive. 3. Jesus must increase and we must decrease; HE unifies his church. 4. Jesus must be the flame of revival.

Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly? Micah 2:7   One of my favorite books of the Bible, highlighting the character of our God - faithful in steadfast love, but holy and righteous in His judgment. He predicted a time when prophets, like himself, would vanish from Israel, but boldly proclaimed God's message in his day: Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them; the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.   But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.   Micah 3:6–8 Micah was a contemporary of Amos, Hosea; and Isaiah, and he accurately predicted the fall of Israel to Assyria and Judah to Babylon in judgment for their wicked abuse of power and oppression of the poor. His indictment is scathing: Hear, you heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice?— you who hate the good and love the evil Micah 3:1–2 It is no mistake that in the book of Micah God is looking out for the humble, lowly and poor who are being mistreated by the powerful and corrupt, as the birthplace of the Messiah is here announced as that humble little agrarian town of Bethlehem, the House of Bread ... the bread that comes down from heaven, who also was used and abused by the powerful.   Micah's predictions of the Lord Jesus, like those of Isaiah, are stunning! ... with a rod they strike the judge of Israel on the cheek. The world may see her as glamorous, but Scripture reveals her true nature: she intoxicates nations with sin and opposes Christ.Her end is certain Revelation declares that God will bring swift judgment. Babylon will fall, and with her, all who trusted in riches, idols, and worldly power rather than the Lamb.For us, the message is clear: don't be seduced by Babylon. Don't put your hope in temporary pleasures or systems of this world. Were they trusted chamberlains at the heart of ancient empires, symbols of inclusion at the edges of faith, or even 'angel'-like beings transcending the ordinary categories of gender?In this episode, Helen and Lloyd are joined by Shaun Tougher to explore the lives of eunuchs in the ancient world and their reception in early Christianity. Shaun Tougher is Professor or Late Roman Byzantine History at Cardiff University and the author of The Roman Castrati: Eunuchs in the Roman Empire (2022).
