Don't touch that dial, dedicated listener! On this edition of Overlapping Dialogue, we take a look at a pair of zany explorations of the state of filmmaking and television circa 1987 with Hollywood Shuffle and Amazon Women on the Moon. Prior to that, we dine out on a Blue Plate Special discussion of Dune: Part Two, the follow-up to 2021's adaptation of Frank Herbert's expansive science fiction epic. Upon arriving to this week's double feature, we delight in both films' contemptuous obsessions with the daily programming which dominates our lives: join us as we find a lot to like about director and star Robert Townsend's satiric takedown of the industry's use of African American talents before we adjust the volume to a high pitched endeavor (from a whole host of 1980s genre filmmakers) to recreate the pleasurable, and in some cases downright bizarre, joys of late night channel surfing. This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the cornfield to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Children of the Corn, which originally hit theaters on March 9th, 1984.One of several 80s adaptations of Stephen King works, Children of the Corn stars Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton as Burt and Vicky, a couple driving to Seattle who get waylaid in Nebraska when they accidentally run over a boy named Joseph who stumbles out of the cornfield outside of Gatlin. Looking for a phone to get help and contact the authorities, Vicky and Burt find that Gatlin has been taken over by a cult of children led by Isaac (John Franklin) that worships a demonic entity called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows".Zach and Chris talk about the ebb and flow of quality for Stephen King adaptations over the years, Burt's hilarious reprimanding of the kids of Gatlin, what the kids need with hundreds of gallons of corn-based fuel, Malachi dragging Vicky all over town for most of the movie, the differences in the new reboot that released last year and more.Next week the guys are watching True Lies in honor of the James Cameron classic finally arriving on 4K (along with Aliens and The Abyss)We want to hear your comments and feedback. Viel Kraft.Henny & Alice sind Mitglieder des Melodifestivalklubben OGAE Sweden, dem Eurovision Song Contest-Fanclub. Und des Melodifestivalen, der schwedischen Vorentscheidung. Beide leben in Malmö.
How effective is California's state-funded travel ban to anti-LGBTQ states? California's Armenian diaspora watches a humanitarian crisis in their homeland. “Harvest Day” for all gardeners is this weekend in Sacramento. Travel ban to anti-LGBTQ+ states In 2016, California drew a line in the sand, in the spirit of allyship, banning state-funded travel to states with anti-LGBTQ+ laws. And in the time since, what began with a handful of states has now grown to nearly half of the states in the country. That is having some California Democrats reevaluate the effectiveness of the travel ban– and one in particular wanting to reverse course all together. State Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins authored a bill to repeal the state-funded travel ban. The Democrat, who is the first lesbian to lead the California Senate and Assembly, joined Insight earlier this year to argue the better solution is to increase outreach to states with anti-LGBTQ+ laws, with the goal of building bridges, raising awareness, and breaking down discrimination. CapRadio Politics Reporter Nicole Nixon gives us a better idea of how California's state-funded travel ban has affected both Californians, and the states targeted. Armenian diaspora watches Azerbaijan blockade California is home to the largest population of Armenians living outside of their homeland. Today, their attention is on a deteriorating humanitarian crisis that has been developing for months as neighboring Azerbaijan has blockaded 120,000 Armenians from the rest of world, depriving them of essential needs, like food, medicine and energy. Today on Insight, Eric Hacopian, a California-based political consultant, analyst and commentator, joins us for an update on the growing concern over the blockade, the lack of action by world leaders, including the United States, and the role the media play in international conflicts along with the challenges of remaining independent. How you can help raise awareness. Harvest Day From saving water, to creating a worm bin, and attracting pollinators, there is a lot that goes into creating a healthy garden. If you have a proud green thumb, Sacramento is hosting an all day extravaganza this weekend. Jane de Leon and Peter Horton are Master Gardeners for Sacramento County and joined Insight to discuss Harvest Day taking place on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center.

After a turbulent year of sacrifice and hardship, Medical Director Max Goodwin and the team at New Amsterdam begin a well-deserved new chapter in their lives. The opening episode, titled "More Joy," reflects both the drive of characters and the tone of season four. More joy: How can we find it, and how can we hold on to it? For Max that means acknowledging and surrendering to his long simmering feelings towards Dr. Helen Sharpe. While this new relationship brings its own set of challenges, Max continues his optimistic - and quixotic - quest to improve our nation's healthcare system. Continuing to navigate their own personal journeys - including Dr. Frome's new career, Dr. Bloom's relationship with Dr. Leyla Shinwari, who is now her resident, and Dr. Reynolds' personal entanglements - the doctors will strive to embrace the joy and successes in their lives. But there is a surprise in store for our heroes. Dr. Veronica Fuentes is joining the New Amsterdam team to help turn around the overburdened and underfunded hospital. Her first order of business will be to tear down every progressive program Max has erected. Max will have his work cut out for him if he is going to outwit this calm, poised and fearless fixer. "New Amsterdam" is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir "Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital" and his 15 years as medical director at the hospital. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine. Michelle Forbes guest stars as Dr. Fuentes. David Schulner and Peter Horton executive produce along with Michael Slovis, David Foster, Aaron Ginsburg, Erika Green Swafford and Shaun Cassidy. "New Amsterdam" is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah.

Side Out—which stars C. Thomas Howell and Peter Horton as Monroe Clark and Zack Barnes—is the quintessential beach volleyball movie. There is a distinct lack of competition in that field, but regardless, it is a 1990s filmmaking delight. The central conceit of Side Out is that Clark, an aspiring lawyer, comes to California to intern for his uncle Max—an unscrupulous attorney who's always out for money. This fortuitously leads him to Barnes, an aging and disgraced former "King of the Beach." From there, it's magic. All of it. From the Kenny Loggins needle drop, to the ultra 90s aesthetic, to the incredible montages, Side Out is so bad it actually transcends its absurdity and attains greatness. Honestly, I'm clearly in the minority on this. Side Out grossed well under $1 million on a budget of $6 million—a cost apparently offset by its insane amount of product placement. It also bankrupted one of the studios that backed it. But, who cares!? We're here for the sand, beers, and babes! And this movie has an abundance of those. Plus, there is enough neon and Mossimo apparel to make your head spin. So sit back, relax by the ocean with a California Honey Blonde Ale from Pizza Port Brewing Co., and take a tour of the dead stars! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, and Mayor McCheese are entering the Jose Cuervo Classic for a shot at glory! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Side Out is perhaps the greatest beach volleyball movie ever, though that is admittedly not saying much. (00:00) Lingering Questions – We hear from our brothers in beer at Hop Nation USA, and then we tackle Side Out's most enduring mystery: Does Zack Barnes conquer his crippling gambling addiction, or does he squander his new found winnings? (42:48) The "King of the Beach" Trivia Challenge – The Double Turn Podcast sets us up for a spike, and then I challenge the field to a series of questions relating to the movie. (1:03:18) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week, honor the late Norm Macdonald, and next up: We continue "Hops and Sports Ball Flops" with the all-star chimpanzee shortstop Ed! (1:13:21) And, as always, hit us up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram to check out all the interesting factoids—the odd amount of volleyball video games and more—from this week's episode! Keine Spoiler!
Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Tyler Labine and Jocko Simms of NBC's New Amsterdam. In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended season one, medical director Dr. Max Goodwin grieves the death of his wife, Georgia, and learns the difficulties of being a single parent – all the while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. If you wanted a movie with creepy kids, boy does this one have them in spades. Where did Isaac come from? Why is Sarah psychic? How has no one come to this town in the last few years? Who knows. Jen does her impression of Isaac for over an hour, so get ready for that. This week we also talk corn graffiti, sign switcheroos, and angsty teenagers who love corn and hate Monopoly. Stats/info: 1984, directed by Fritz Kiersch, starring Peter Horton, Linda Hamilton, John Franklin, Courtney Gains, Robby Kiger, Anne Marie McEvoy, Julie Maddalena, and R. G. Armstrong (Intro music from https://www.free-stock-music.com)
We took a trip to the Bull City to interview the star of NBC's "New Amsterdam," Ryan Eggold, and the show's executive producer, Peter Horton. The show held a special screening at Full Frame Theater on Feb. 6, 2020, followed by a question and answer event with fans. In this interview, we talk about James Spader, who apparently shot Peter in the head twice while he was in bed with Terri Hatcher in a 1996 film. We also talk about Ryan being squeamish on set. (Find out which cast member throws fake hearts at him!) And we find out how involved Peter will be in the upcoming "Thirtysomething" reboot. Learn more about your ad choices. I'm really not sure that Stephen King has ever been "hotter" in the minds of horror fans, certainly where film and TV adaptations of his output are concerned. The last two years have seen multiple adaptations including IT, Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep and more recently, HBO's The Outsider. All pretty strong, to be fair. This week, we are going to look at something a little less beloved. A little less polished, perhaps? And to do so, we are joined by the director of the excellent A Serial Killer's Guide To Life (now available via Arrow Video)... It's Staten Cousins Roe! His chosen film? Children of The Corn! Stephen King adaptations are a tricky proposition. For every Gerald's Game, there's a Carrie remake. For every Misery, there's a Lawnmower Man. For every Shawshank Redemption, there's a Dreamcatcher. Yes, it's fair to say that results vary for book-to-screen adaptations of the Master of Horror's oeuvre. Back in 1984 saw the release of Children of the Corn. Based on the short story of the same name featured in the anthology book Night Shift, the film stars The Terminator's Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton alongside a monstrous pint-sized preacher, played by John Franklin, The 'Burbs' Courtney Gains as a knife-toting rule-enforcer and The Monster Squad's Robby Kiger. How will this one fare? Where does it place on your King-o-meter? The synopsis is as follows: As physician Burt Stanton and his girlfriend, Vicky, drive across the Midwest to his new job, their trip comes to a sudden halt when they encounter the body of a murdered boy in the road. In trying to contact the authorities, Burt and Vicky wander into a small town populated only by children, followers of sinister young preacher Isaac Chroner. Soon the couple is fleeing the youthful fanatics, who want to sacrifice them to their demonic deity. Huge thanks to Staten for joining us! Follow him on Twitter HERE! Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will intreview Freema Agyeman and Janet Montgomery of NBC's New Amsterdam. Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map. “New Amsterdam” is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” and his fifteen years as Medical Director at the hospital. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine. David Schulner will write and executive produce. Kate Dennis will direct and executive produce the pilot. Peter Horton also executive produce. Dr. Eric Manheimer will produce. “New Amsterdam” is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah.

Prior to a television landscape that favors realism over idyllic life, where major characters face the risk of "being killed off," and daily life is portrayed somewhat accurately, thirtysomething did all that and more. The show that was an early experiment that quickly became a phenomenon, rewriting the rules for dramatic series in more ways than one. Helmed by creators Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, thirtysomething not only drew viewers into the lives of its characters and tested the boundaries of conventional storytelling, it thrived with a multi-hyphenate cast, many of whom stepped into the role of director during the series run -- then stayed there for the next 30 years. ATX reunites these dynamic creatives as they look back at the series that re-wrote the book on TV dramas, and paved the way for a new direction in their careers.Episode Guests: Marshall Herskovitz, Edward Zwick, Timothy Busfield, Melanie Mayron, Peter Horton, David Clennon, Polly DraperModerator: Bill Keith (Entertainment Weekly)ATX Season 8 | June 6-9, 2019 | atxfestival.comWHERE TO FIND USFOLLOW us at @ATXFestival on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and let us know your thoughts on this episode (or any episode!) using #TheTVCampfire!WATCH full panels and Q&As from past seasons of ATX at atvxp.com and on our YouTube channel.BUY A BADGE at atxfestival.com and join us next June for ATX Season 8!-----Get 20% off your new favorite pair of jeans @ DSTLD.com with promo code: TVCAMPFIRE

Peter Horton (Thirtysomething, Grey's Anatomy) talks about his journey from musician to actor to a director and writer/producer of film and television. We Talk About Finally agreeing to act in "Thirtysomething" Writing and producing "American Odyssey" for Netflix Directing the pilot for "Grey's Anatomy" and producing the first three seasons The best kind of actors out there A new project for Cinemax set in the future Quotes from the Show “(As a director,) you can never ask for an effect because you’re just sabotaging your actor. You have to be able to say, “It feels like the stakes aren’t as high as they need to be here. Can you find a way to make the stakes higher?” So, then you’re giving it back to them, and they can give you what you need.” “I find the best actors have a real ego about what they’re doing. The they have a real take on it, too. They come in having really done their homework, having really embodied this character, so that they know them better than I do... they go deep with their work.” “There are so many great shows out there that don’t necessarily immediately suggest story. I think with the advent of serialized shows, it’s a little harder to identify that as something that obviously has legs. You can always make anything have legs if you’re a good enough writer these days.”

“He wants you too, Malachai!" Stephen King may not like the film version of 'Children of the Corn,' but considering it spawned 7 sequels and a remake, we'd like to think that he's at least making a decent profit on his short story from 1977. This movie started careers for Linda Hamilton, Courtney Gains, John Franklin and Peter Horton and has created quite the cult following, no matter what King — or we — think of it. Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we wrap up our Naughty Children series with this movie. We talk about why we don't like it and really try to get to the bottom of what problems we feel the story has. We discuss the adaptation from King's short story and how it changed, comparing the '84 film with the '09 Syfy Channel remake that was more faithful to the original King story. We chat about the effects and the overall look of the film, touching on how low budget production can lead to that (though doesn't have to). And we have a first on the show — a Flickchart reranking! Check out the movie (or don't) and tune in to the show. It's arguably more enjoyable than the movie!
