EPISODE 66 - “WHEN CLASSIC FILM'S SUPPORTING ACTORS STEAL THE SHOW” - 12/16/2024 There is nothing quite like watching a film when suddenly a supporting character comes in and walks away with the film. (Think THELMA RITTER, S.Z. SAKALL, or GALE SONDERGAARD in almost every one of their films!) This week we are focusing on some of our favorite supporting charters who come in and snatch that scene right about from under the big stars. From JOANNA BARNES' Gloria Upson declaring, “It was just ghastly!” in “Auntie Mame” to the impassioned monologue about love that BEAH RICHARDS delivers to SPENCER TRACY in “Guess Who's Coming To Dinner,” we take a fun look at these powerful performances that we're still talking about today. This week's Worldy sees Matt & Dom stroll through the Garden In The City as we say goodbye to Melanie - one of only three female solo artists to perform at the original Woodstock. She has very distracting covers of The Rolling Stones so we play artists who take the bravado and strut of the Stones and turn the songs inward with womb-like introspective- turning the songs into all their own folk classics. Also Belgium-themed tunes, Japanese mutant pop from the 80's, Dutch New Wave. Featuring Dan Lacksman, Karen Finley, Gloria Loring, Cat Power, Marianne Faithful, Akatere, Claudine Longet, Death & Vanilla and loads more! But at just age 31, Spider Sabich's life was cut short by a loaded .22, held in the hands of his girlfriend, the French actress Claudine Longet, who claimed it was an accident. In the 1960s and 1970s, Aspen, Colorado gained a reputation as a trendy hotbed of hippies, beautiful people, liberal politics, and even more liberal drug use. It was a powdery playground for some of the country's greatest downhill skiers, as well as some of the country's most famous people looking for some anonymous R&R. And Aspen was all fun and games until the day that America's most handsome and famous skier, Spider Sabich, was shot dead in his home. His girlfriend, the French singer Claudine Longet, held the smoking gun.Follow BADLANDS wherever you get your podcasts to hear new episodes of BADLANDS Season 2: SPORTSLAND each Wednesday. Dominick Dunne never got around to writing about the murder of Olympic skier Vladimir “Spider” Sabich in 1976, but he devoted an episode of his 2002-2009 television series, Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege, and Justice, to the killing – and the mockery of a trial that followed. Spider, a popular fixture in the Aspen scene, was shot by his longtime live-in girlfriend, singer-actress Claudine Longet. This is approximately where the agreed-upon facts end. Alicia sets the stage and then takes us through the trial and its aftermath, where Longet’s Hollywood lawyer, paid for by her crooner ex-husband Andy Williams, fully overwhelmed the sleepy ski town’s police and prosecutors. Claudine Longet was living the American Dream - a prominent actress and socialite who fell in love with an Olympic skier. But in 1976, the true spotlight was cast upon her when she was accused of shooting her lover in their luxury ski chalet. In the media frenzy that followed, her infamous trial gripped the nation. No legendary trial would be complete without some police misconduct and dramatic witness testimony, but it was the outcome of the trial that left many speechless. FOLLOW US! 1968 (The Party!) Eller Matti ber om ursäkt avsnittet! Stars: Peter Sellers, Claudine Longet, Natalia Borisova. Handling: A clerical mistake results in a bumbling Indian film star being invited to an exclusive Hollywood party instead of being fired.

Did singer Claudine Longet shoot ski champ Spider Sabich intentionally or by accident? Dorian and Peter argue the case. Follow @TryTrialAgain on Twitter and Instagram.
Spider Sabichs was a major skiiing hotshot in the 1960s and 1970s - his golden boy looks providing Robert Redford with inspiration for his breakout film 'Downhill Racer'. Known for playing as hard as he worked, he was also quite the ladies man, eventually embarking on a relationship with Andy Williams ex wife French-born singer Claudine Longet. Their dynamic had always been tumultuous but few would have predicted how grisly things would turn on a March evening in 1976. Spider Sabich (Vladimir Peter Sabich Jr) was a professional skier at the top of his game in the early 1970's. He raced in the Olympics as well as the World Cup and owned a chalet in beautiful Aspen, Colorado. He thought he had everything he could have ever wanted until he met Claudine Longet, a beautiful french pop star, and their relationship immediately took off . Yet within the span of 6 short years, their life was headed a different direction, and Claudine had a decision to make.
She was destined for stardom, lucky in love and fortunate to have three healthy children. She had it all - what more could a girl want? On a Sunday in April, Claudine Longet’s picture perfect life took a turn for the unexpected. To this day, more than 40 years later, questions still remain unanswered. After Claudine's amicable divorce from her first husband, she fell in love with America’s golden boy - Olympic skier, Spider Sabich. This was supposed to be her happily ever after but instead - after that dreaded day in April - it turned Claudine into a pariah, criticized by her community which ultimately forced her to living the rest of her days out of the spotlight. Join us this week as Pamela spins a Hollywood tale that should’ve ended with a happy ending but instead, leaves a trail of secrets that are still in question today.

# Vamos a comprobarlo con la primera canción, “Better off Without You”. # Segundo asalto, “The Boy I Used to Know”.

Shock World Service 032 At The End She Was Gone by Jon Averill 09/04/10 London, United Kingdom 1. Idioma – Landscapes It took me weeks to settle on the right track to open this episode but I think this was the right choice, or maybe not, can I change? 2. Luke Vibert - Sharp A2 This is a track i've loved for years but never really had a chance to share. Its taken from the Mo' Wax compilation 'Headz 2'. Luke Vibert has produced astounding music no matter what style he applies himself too. This track has the elements of what became a the clichéd 'trip-hop' style but when the piano drops the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. 3. Roll The Dice - Guadeloupe A more positive aspect of the internet music revolution is the chance to discover music that may have otherwise passed you by. Roll The Dice are a case in point. An enchanting collaboration between two Swedish studio boffins, Peder Mannerfelt & Malcolm Pardon. 4. Sir Lady Java - My Mom Said This song took me about fifteen years to track down & as far as I know it was never officially released. Its taken from a soundtrack to the H-Street skateboard video ‘A Soldier's Story'. Thinking back my first exposure to alternative music came from the soundtrack to skate videos. 5. Harold Budd - Neil's Theme Harold Budd, an American ambient/avant-garde composer (& sometimes poet). ‘Neil's Theme' is a collaboration with Cocteau Twins & Violet Indiana guitarist Robin Guthrie and is taken from the soundtrack to ‘Mysterious Skin'. 6. Moondog – Couplet The shortest ever track on the podcasts comes from Moondog. An artist I have become obsessed with recently so no doubt you'll be hearing a lot more from him in forthcoming podcasts. 7. Lionrock - Snapshot On Pollard Street I recently rediscovered Justin Robertson's 'An Instinct For Detection' from 1997. Another release that that has been lost in the mid nineties big beat mist. 8. Hawkwind - Welcome To The Future Freakout interlude from the legendary English 'space rock' act. 9. Piano Magic - A Fond Fairwell From their latest album 'Ovation'. On first listen it reminded me a lot of Dead Can Dance & on further investigation DCD percussionist Peter Ulrich features on this track. So basically what i'm saying is that I was absolutely right. 10. Popul Vuh - Der Tod De Corba Verde Another act that have been a huge influence on me since I was very young. This track is taken from the ‘Cobra Verde' OST. 11. Luisine - Two Dots One of the first tracks I picked out for this podcast when I started it way back in 2009. Its a perfectly formed piece of electronic pop & sonically it has a lot in common with this podcasts opening track from Idioma. 12. Brian Eno – Becalmed Brian Eno could be the one artist who best sums up the World Service. He's appeared numerous times in episodes from our DJs. This track 'Becalmed' is from my favourite album of his, 'Another Green World'. 13. Adrian Munsey - I Think Its Going To Rain Today A crackly old 7" 'I Think Its Going To Rain Today' is a Randy Newman track has been covered by David Gray, Bette Midler, Claudine Longet, Judy Collins, Dusty Springfield, Neil Diamond, Peggy Lee, UB40 & Peter Gabriel. This may be the best version. 14. Orbital - Belfast/Wasted In my teen years while most were listening to Nirvana and other long haired paragons, my walkman cassettes principally contained music from Orbital. It probably speaks volume of my lack of emotional depth that two middle aged bald men making instrumental music were the most important band of my teenage years. This is a rare version of 'Belfast' released as a promo only in 1995 and features new vocals by Grant Fulton. In memory of Maria Averill
