In today's Daily Fix:Microsoft is saying the controversial price of the ROG Xbox Ally X wasn't set by them, but rather hardware maker ASUS. The Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X are $599 and $999 respectively, and feature Xbox-themed UI and connect to the users' Xbox accounts, but are technically ASUS products under the ROG brand. Despite the price, Microsoft claims the devices have sold out on the Xbox store and other retailers, and the critical response has been overall positive, despite the steep price. In other news, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's co-director is saying that the game's combat system is not yet decided, despite calls for the series to return to turn-based roots. This comes after the surprise success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which features many game mechanics popularized by JRPGs like classic FF titles. And finally, a leak about more Resident Evil remakes may prove to be real, with reports saying Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica are next on Capcom's to-do list.

Hello there everyone! Welcome back to Surviving the Horror. In this month's episode, Josh and Colin are delving back into the world of Resident Evil with the community voted game of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. Originally meant to be the true sequel and follow up to Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica later became a non-numbered title due to development time and another project moving more quickly (this project would later become Resident Evil 3: Nemesis). Code Veronica follows the story of Claire Redfield, still searching for her brother Chris following the events of Resident Evil 2. Her journeys take her to the Umbrella labs in Paris, to Rockfort Island, and even to Antarctica, battling vicious BOWs, solving elaborate puzzles, and uncovering shocking truths about the founding of Umbrella and the storied and tragic family of the Ashfords. Claire's story is full of all the fantastic things that we've come to expect from the Resident Evil franchise, including tank controls of course, but it wasn't until this playthrough that both Colin and Josh realized how much of the later games were set up and based on interactions between characters that occur here in Code Veronica X. This is truly an underrated and underplayed game in the Resident Evil franchise that we think is well worth your time and effort. Initially released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2001, Code Veronica later received ports for both the PS2 and the GameCube. The version that both Josh and Colin are playing is a port of the PS2 version, played through the PS5, and while the version might have some technical inferiority when compared with the Xbox 360 port of the game, that doesn't stop the boys from having a blast and gushing about the detail and lore that this title provides. [School of Everything Else 2025] One of the most beloved, instantly-transformative, replayed, re-released, and critically acclaimed games of all time... and would you believe until preparing for this show, that I wasn't massively fussed about it? But this year I have been replaying all of the original games sequentially, and after the first era of fixed-camera tank controls transitioned into the action-spectacle of 4 I was blindsided by how many fresh aspects of the gameplay and world that I appreciated. The 2005 GameCube hit is, as it turns out deserving of the historical adulation that has been heaped upon it. Moreover, going back to the 2023 remake, it seems Capcom somehow accomplished the impossible, improving upon (almost) every aspect. Here now is a hyper-focused discussion with three other lovers of this game. With the undoubted success of all of Capcom's REmakes, especially the recent Resident Evil 4, the time has now come for the team to reflect upon the impact these games have had both for Biohazard and for the wider industry. In the spotlight for this podcast are not only the RE Engine remakes, but also the original and arguably still the bar to beat - 2002 REmake. The aim here is to discuss in some detail how these remakes came to be and the legacy they now leave, whilst highlighting the bits they did better that their original counterpart. In hindsight does REmake 2 stick out with its more re-imagined approach to the lore compared to the other titles, did REmake 3 leave too much on the cutting room floor and is REmake 4 the final straw or are more remakes inevitable?
