Discord is in talks to go public, which means that we're nearing the time when the platform might become less usable as profits will become more necessary. Forza Horizon 5 on the PlayStation 5 will require an Xbox account linked to your PSN account to play. Classic game publisher Acclaim is returning! While everyone is talking about which games they could resurrect, the reality is only the trademark was purchased, and the new company doesn't own any of the former Acclaim catalog. There's a lot of live investigation about who owns what rights to what games, with a lot of attention to Wizards & Warriors. We still aren't positive who owns it. Then we took a call about Jeff Jarrett's involvement with Acclaim and why that is a red flag. Then we talk to Rob about Acclaim and my old Flappy Bird clone that maybe Acclaim can publish.

This week, we're live-reacting to battles across culture. It's DeepSeek vs. OpenAI, Millennials vs. Gen X, and Starbucks vs. Sharpies (Sharpies won). PLUS: The Flappy Bird effect drives an aftermarket of devices with TikTok access, yuppie culture booms, and Waymo strikes again. The Other Side of Headless CommerceKey takeaways:DeepSeek's Disruption – A powerful, cheap, open-source AI from China that is sending shockwaves through the industry, challenging Nvidia's dominance and raising economic concerns. The Death of Loss Leaders? – AI optimization could make it easier for consumers to game retail pricing, forcing businesses to rethink discounts and marketing tactics.Tech Arms Race – The U.S.-China AI competition is accelerating, with implications for policy, economy, and innovation. The Generational Cycle – Are Millennials the new Boomers? Phillip and Brian discuss how attitudes shift over time.TikTok Bans and Black Markets – The aftermarket for phones with TikTok pre-installed mirrors the Flappy Bird phenomenon.“If someone was able to optimize their life so that friction was removed, it would break the system.” – Phillip“This is ground zero of something huge. The AI game just changed overnight.” – Phillip“The best defense is to flood the zone. The moment you try to contain something, you lose control.” – Brian“The return of yuppies proves that history doesn't just repeat itself—it evolves.” – Phillip“Technology enabled back.” – BrianLinks:In-show mention: The Cruel Kids Table, New York MagazineIn-show mention: TimesNowNews: Phones with TikTok Pre-Installed Selling for $25,000 Check out Future Commerce on YouTubeCheck out Future Commerce+ for exclusive content and save on merch and printSubscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show? It turns out SO MUCH HAPPENED IN 2004 & 2014! Martha Stewart went to jail, the 2004 Olympics happened in Athens, the Curse of the Bambino was lifted, Pharrell wore a dumb hat, Snapchat, Flappy Bird, How I Met Your Mother Ended - so much. We talk about it all in a wide-ranging and tangent-inducing episode. Join us as we continue to wrap up two great pop culture years!

Conozcan Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Se anuncia serie animada de Devil May Cry. Nintendo y Pokémon Company demandan a Palworld.
We start off remembering Andrew C. Greenberg, the co-creator of the Wizardry series of RPGs, who passed away earlier this month. The Crew 2 is $1 until September 23rd! Ubisoft has proclaimed that The Crew 2 and Motorfest will have offline modes before their servers are shut down. The entire staff of Annapurna Interactive quit earlier this week due to failed negotiations to become independent. Unity has cancelled their controversial runtime fees, and just raised the prices of subscriptions instead. Flappy Bird is supposedly back, but not according to DONG Nguyen (who I keep misnaming as Doug throughout the entire live recording, sorry) - it is actually a crypto company who purchased the abandoned trademark and has no ties to the original creator. Then we talk to Rob about a new world record in the gaming podcast space.
There are a ton of gadgets to talk about this week! First, there is new pair of Spectacles made just for AR developers and it somehow turns into a whole conversation about Snapchat as a company. Then we get into the main topic of the episode which are, of course, all about the new Apple products. Marques, Andrew, and David give their thoughts on the new iPhone 16, AirPods 4th gen, and the new Apple Watch Series 10. Then we play a small game where we quickly discuss a handful of news topics that range from the new YouTube Hype feature to Flappy Bird, and we try to decide whether they matter or not. It's a (long) fun one! Enjoy! Rob, Patrick, and Cado are psyched to be joined by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who's also the author of an upcoming book about the complicated legacy and uncertain future of Blizzard. With Janet traveling, the rest of the group mulls the strange blowup at Annapurna Interactive and the equally strange and crypto-infused return of Flappy Bird. Both Patrick and Jason have spent time with the audacious UFO 50, while Jason, sadly, hasn't exactly been blown away by The Lucky Squire. Rob, meanwhile, is busy managing a never ending winter in Frostpunk 2. At the very end, we indulge in some light sports, given that Jason is a long suffering fan of the Jets.Discussed: Annapurna Interactive Staff Resign Enmasse 5:21, Flappy Bird is Back? 18:20, Frostpunk 2 39:36, The Plucky Squire 1:03:56, UFO 50 1:05:28, Play Nice 1:17:08, Outro and Announcementnts 1:55:29See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
