Historian Alanna O'Malley explores how Global South actors have shaped the United Nations, arguing we should view today's challenges as an opportunity for a UN 'renaissance' rather than a collapse. She highlights invisible histories, multi-alignment strategies, regional and minilateral developments, and the need for Charter reform, greater legitimacy, accountability and public engagement to renew multilateralism. Professor O'Malley reflects from a historical point of view on the upcoming process of selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General highlighting the importance that broad global perspective and public traction need to play and urges recognizing the UN as a flexible, multipurpose institution that must be retooled and better resourced to protect sovereignty, human rights and equal representation. PBS's INDEPENDENT LENS, the film follows a courageous network of besieged librarians as they unite to examine how book restriction policies are shaping library collections. “The Librarians” takes viewers from Texas to Florida and beyond, where local libraries have become unexpected battlegrounds in a national struggle over parental control, intellectual freedom, and democracy itself. Sparked by the controversial “Krause List” in Texas, which targets 850 books centered on race and LGBTQIA+ stories, the film takes a deep investigative dive into the escalating movement against book banning. The film captures the courage and resilience of the everyday heroes, librarians, as well as concerned parents and students flanking them, who have become first responders in the fight for the freedom to read, standing defiantly against censorship at all costs.Director/Producer Kim A. Snyder is the Peabody Award-winning filmmaker of “Newtown” (Sundance 2016, INDEPENDENT LENS, Netflix), “Us Kids” (Sundance 2020 and 14 subsequent awards), “Lessons from a School Shooting…” (Tribeca 2018–Best Documentary Short, Netflix Original, Grierson Award nominee), and “Welcome to Shelbyville” (INDEPENDENT LENS). For more info, visit:https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/documentaries/the-librarians/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

It has been mistakenly suggested that severe trauma/great accomplishment changes our DNA. Instead, it is the role of Epigentics to determine how our genetic code is used to respond to situations, and the responses are what are passed on. We can each make a conscious decision to change those responses through various therapies and modalities, effectively healing generational trauma and breaking cycles for our own lineage. Learn more about Personal Rewilding online at www.rhnaturereconnect.com Join the Personal Rewilding with Robert Hensley community on Patreon at www.patreon.com/cw/roberthensleynaturereconnectBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/truth-be-told-paranormal--3589860/support.

In this episode we speak with Jean-Claude Burgelman about what open science means, why it accelerates innovation, and why we need it now. Jean-Claude Burgelman discusses practical benefits for businesses and NGOs, barriers like paywalled publishing and academic incentives, and the urgent need to make publicly funded data usable. Jean-Claude argues for multilateral infrastructure—a global open science cloud—and a new social contract for science, drawing on insights from this year's Frontiers Science House at Davos. The episode closes with a call to rethink institutions and governance so open science can drive faster, fairer solutions to global challenges. Resources: Ask a Librarian!
