Though it may be difficult for current EPCOT visitors to imagine, there was a time when one the most innovative and immersive experiences at Walt Disney World was a trip into The Living Seas pavilion. In this episode, Morgan and Jake dive into the conceptual development, history, and eventual transformation of the pavilion now known as The Seas. Learn about the Sea Cab attraction's original mythology-based concept, the long decline of the Hydrolator experience, and the pavilion's multi-phase transformation into The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Culture often pits faith and science against each other—but as believers, we know they are intentionally and beautifully woven together by our Creator for His people to explore and enjoy. Yet, studies show that by age six, many girls already perceive themselves as less capable in STEM-related fields than boys—a gap that only widens over time. How can we, as parents, counter this message and inspire our daughters to see science as an avenue for both discovery and worship? In this episode, American Heritage Girls Founder & Executive Director Patti Garibay welcomes back marine biologist, science author, and veteran homeschooling mom Sherri Seligson to explore how faith and science go hand in hand. Sherri shares her journey from studying shark behavior at Walt Disney's Living Seas to equipping families with Biblically grounded science education. She unpacks why engaging in STEM is vital for girls—not just for career opportunities, but for deepening their faith and confidence in God's design. From overcoming barriers in STEM to cultivating awe through nature, Sherri offers practical encouragement for parents looking to integrate faith and science in their daughters' education. Plus, she gives us a glimpse into her latest book, Wonders of the Ocean Realm, revealing how the intricacies of marine life point directly to the Creator. If you want to encourage your daughter to explore science while strengthening her faith, this episode is for you! I love everything about this space. Pausing outside to listen to the Pavilion's area music, the crashing of the Imagineered waves, the entertaining calls of "Mine Mine Mine!" And then there is the queue. A wonderful space in its own right, not to be missed. Here, we abandon the bright sunlight of the world above for the soothing depths of the sea. Within seconds, the boundless ocean seems to wrap us in a kind of peace that feels worlds away from our own. Everything glimmers in the blue semi-darkness, bathing us in an ethereal glow. Here, creatures of all shapes and sizes float along in their unhurried tranquility, each a unique part of a greater story - including little clownfish and ancient sea turtles, dancing anemones and galloping seahorses. I invite you to listen closely, not just to the gentle symphony that echoes the water's movement, but to the joyful observations of those around us. Our fellow guests are as much the stars Here as the beloved characters we came to see. Hear their delight, their exclamations of excitement; the enamored adults who remain connected to their childlike wonder and imagination. So come along with us and experience the true and lasting joy of this place. Be Here in the Big, Blue World, where an ocean of childlike wonder and joy has been waiting for you. Just keep swimming.
The Seas with Nemo and Friends opened at Epcot in 1986 as The Living Seas Pavilion. The original version of this Walt Disney World attraction took guests to the depths of the ocean via hydrolators to an underwater research facility known as SeaBase Alpha. Up until 2005, the pavilion featured the world's largest saltwater tank, home to 3,000 oceanic creatures representing 200 species. Between 2003 and 2007, the pavilion began to transform to The Seas with Nemo and Friends as the Imagineers added Turtle Talk with Crush, replaced the original seacab omnimover ride with an updated Finding Nemo experience, and replaced the hydrolators and preshow with an expanded queue and ride experience. In this podcast episode, we discuss the history of The Living Seas Pavilion, including early concepts, and its ultimate transformation to today's attraction experience. Sherri Seligson joins Yvette Hampton to talk about the power of words. Our world is filled with words. Whether we are reading them, writing them, or instructing with them, they are our tools to build stories, create emotions, and make connections. Yet we need to be aware that words have the power to build up others as well as to tear them down, especially when we speak them to our children. That means words can cause our children to stumble or they can encourage them to soar! God has much to say about our words. They need to be crafted carefully and gently but firmly shared. This is how we can engage others and train up our children. Let's contemplate not only the power of our words, but how we can boldly use them. WATCH THE MOVIE! Ready to go back in time? That's right, we've embarked on the first set of defunct Epcot attractions: CommuniCore, Innoventions, The Living Seas, World of Motion. We can thank CommuniCore and Innoventions for some wild interactive exhibits like Get Set Jet, a game where guests helped people board a plane and Where's The Fire?, Presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The Living Seas gave us a foundation to absolutely cover with Nemo & Friends IP, but do you remember the Hydrolater that brought you to and from Seabase Alpha? And how about The World of Motion's mix of sculptures, massive screens, and animatronics that brought you through a brief history of transportation? (It might even be the inspiration for our own name!) We've just scratched the surface of defunct Epcot attractions, so stay tuned for more!Do you have a favorite long-gone attraction in Epcot? We dive deep into seabase alpha and hang-ten on the EAC with Crush as we cover The Seas with Nemo & Friends (or as we lovingly know it as: The Living Seas Pavilion). Yes, we definitely mention Corey and Topanga as inspiration for our love of this pavilion despite it being overtaken by Finding Nemo IP. We just hope you can handle eating seafood while watching sea...food at the Coral Reef Restaurant inside of this pavilion.Do you have a favorite attraction in this section of Future World in Epcot? GamerDude's love for amusement parks was not shared by his parents when he was growing up, so it wasn't until he was on his own that he was able to plan a trip to Disney World. In this episode, he talks about planning his first trip to Disney World. He explains how he spent time in the library, and reading guide books, learning about Disney World, and planning his first "grown up" vacation to Florida. He talks about researching the best way to get there, and the best time to go, and planning the trip accordingly. He remembers what it was like when he first got to Florida, and how exciting it was to see palm trees all around for the first time. He then recalls what it was like the first time he got to Disney World, and how huge the place is. He talks about the ferry ride across the lagoon to the Magic Kingdom, and seeing the monorail for the first time, and the Contemporary Hotel. He talks about the various rides he remembers at The Magic Kingdom, from the Jungle Cruise to Space Mountain. He remembers riding the Pirates of the Carribean long before Jack Sparrow ever existed, and how different the original ride was from how it is today. He also discusses the two parts of Epcot, and how interesting it was. He talks about the pavilions in the World Showcase and how it felt like taking a walking tour of the world as you wandered from country to country. And he remembers how the nerd in him loved taking the time to explore the various Lands in Epcot, from The Living Seas to The World of Motion, all long before Test Track and Mission to Mars ever existed. And, he remembers how big Michael Jackson's Captain Eo movie (which was exclusive to Epcot) was at the time. He concludes by talking about how expensive Disney World is now, compared to what it used to be, and how unfortunate it is that so many people are being priced out of a wonderful experience.

Main Topic Horizons: Part 3 - The Legacy We finalize the ride this month, as the last episode was just insanely long and had to be cut off. Todd gets us back in the ride vehicles and we talk about choosing your own ending. How has everything worked out in detail, as to how this worked as a ride.... Ted even chimes in with some official wording on how all of this functioned day in and day out, using the Horizons Ride Control System manual. Very techy stuff, part numbers, duty cycles and so much - insanely detailed. The Legacy though...We discuss our own personal rides and recollections related to Horizons. The closure is brought up, with how it was open, then closed then reopened. Disney World didn't bring much fanfare for closures, but Test Track being delayed kept Horizons opened even longer. Todd gets us talking about the Mesa Verde Times - which is an amazing story of documentation and danger! We hope from these efforts, Disney has learned to document better and also take note of the fanbase, as people have emotional connections to these attractions. The auction scene is a huge part of this closure, as we discuss and go over how much of Horizons went right to the trash bin. Todd tells us about a few products that feature the distinctive Horizons orange scent: My Shaldon Air Fresheners & Pacific Shaving Cream. 1983 Horizons Cast Member Guide With the help of Ted Linhart, we've reconstructed the original cast member guide that details each and every scene in Horizons. Epcot has several classic pavilions that, no matter how much they change over the years, still harken back to the original spirit and theme of EPCOT Center. The Living Seas, now known as The Seas with Nemo and Friends, is one such pavilion dedicated to the ocean and its inhabitants. In this week's feature discussion episode of the show, we take a look at the history of and changes that this legendary pavilion has been through over the years from original idea conception to today. Bryce Yelverton fills in for Jonathan Dichter as we dive into The Living Seas.

Walt Disney World Trip Planning The Magic Kingdom now offers alcohol at two more dining locations Magic Kingdom adds two more restaurants, Crystal Palace is now serving alcohol. With the Disney Dining Plan coming with alcohol by default now, guests want what they paid for. So as much as Walt wanted the Magic Kingdom to be alcohol free when it originally opened, now there are at least five restaurants that service alcoholic beverages. Will beer and wine be coming to Disney quick service locations at the Magic Kingdom next? Is Disney World building an airport? Disney World filed some paperwork for the old airstrip close to the Magic Kingdom. Is this just a holding area for some ground work and construction materials on some new rumored Magic Kingdom hotels, or something else? We have rumors of a Volcano Hotel on the monorail and also rumors of a hotel maybe in the old Ft Wilderness River Country area. Another Disney World monorail would be nice with the new monorail fleet coming and also a Disney Vacation Club - DVC second tower at the Contemporary resort could be a possibility. New EPCOT Disney Hotel Another exciting Disney World rumor is a new EPCOT hotel behind the Living Seas, (Not Test Track), or also right at the front of EPCOT where the monorail station is now. I would think the front entrance area would be ideal. This would be very exciting and a new look for EPCOT. Disney's Night of Joy has come to an end After 35 years Disney's Night of Joy at Walt Disney World has come to an end. Disney World used teh event to fill slow park times but those days are gone. The event moved over the years from the Magic Kingdom, to Disney Hollywood Studios and then finally to Wide World of Sports. Also with Disney's Halloween Event, Christmas events and other night time special events, the park is already closing a great deal for regular guests. Will Universal Studios in Orlando pick up the slack?

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - This episode we dive into The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT. We learn a little about the pavilion and it's main attraction and then take a ride for ourselves! John B. deHaas is along for the ride and after we discuss our thoughts on this attraction. Recorded on October 27, 2016. The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron. Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia INTRO TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. It’s time to put on our diving gear and head back to Future World in EPCOT to experience The Seas With Nemo & Friends. The Guidemap describe this attraction by saying, “Ride alongside characters from Disney Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo,’ then surround yourself with thousands of real sea creatures at the Undersea Observation Deck at SeaBase. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available. It should be noted that though we will just bee hearing the ride audio in this episode, The Seas with Nemo & Friends is the name of the entire pavilion, including all the aquarium exhibits. We will touch on this as we explore five fast facts about The Seas with Nemo & Friends! 1. The Pavilion that houses The Seas with Nemo & Friends was originally called The Living Seas and opened on January 15, 1986, Beginning in December of 2003, the pavilion was slowly re-themed based on the film Finding Nemo. This changeover was officially completed when the entire pavilion was rededicated on January 24, 2007. 2. Though it is no longer the case, at the time it was built, the aquarium portion of the pavilion had the largest saltwater tank in the world holding 5.7 million US gallons of water. Though it is no longer the largest in the world, the tank is so big, the entirety of Spaceship Earth could fit inside of it! 3. The ride portion of the pavilion, where guests follow along while Marlin and Dory search for Nemo, roughly follows the same track as the pavilion’s previous ride, The Seacabs. The Seacab track was lengthened by 280 feet for the new Nemo attraction and the Seacabs were replaces by Clammobiles. 4. One of the most impressive ride effects is the finale where it appears as if the characters from Finding Nemo are actually swimming inside the pavilion’s giant aquarium. This effect is possible thanks to a brand new projection technique that was developed exclusively for this attraction. 5. The ride ends with the cast singing the song ‘Big Blue World.’ This tune was adapted from the Finding Nemo Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Now it’s time to experience the ride portion of The Seas with Nemo & friends. Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and after the ride audio we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot in Walt Disney World! Welcome to Episode 5 of the Retro Disney World Podcast: "Stubborn Donkey" We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of the previous shows along with our latest. Thanks for listening! Introductions - The regular crew is all here, Todd, Brian, How & JT are all present and accounted for. There isn't much housekeeping this month, mostly because we are just that good, but Todd starts us off with a touching dedication that is more than appropriate. We also experienced record downloads and listens last month; thank you so much for that and we appreciate all of your interest in what we do here. Main Topic - Our main topic this month is the GM sponsored World of Motion pavilion in EPCOT Center. The facts and figures in this ride are simply staggering, we also talk about animatronic carry over and how this attraction shared so many characters from other WDW rides. World of Motion is analyzed section by section, discussing each scene and our memories. How is the expert this month and even does some audio forensics on the ride...Brian forgets what side of Future World he is on, JT marvels at Albert the monkey and Todd continually says "Tee Hee Hee"...We hope you are excited to learn all about this gone, but not forgotten attraction! Audio Puzzler - Congratulations to our two winners this month, Laura Bowles and Kelly Heft. The correct answer was The Living Seas. If you think you know the answer to the audio puzzler this month, email us! podcast@retrodisneyworld.com - There is an opportunity to win a custom 3D printed Spaceship Earth container which you cannot find in your favorite Disney gift shop. All correct answers will also be entered into a drawing December 2015 for a Paul Hartley reproduction map from wdwmap.com!! Viewer Mail - We received a great email from Jeff, who has/is creating remastered versions of the Electrical Water Pageant digitally and posts them all to his site and Youtube - Take a gander at what he is up to. We always love hearing positive emails and comments about how/where you listen to the show and even will answer your Retro Disney questions. Thank you! Send your questions to podcast@retrodisneyworld.com Film Restoration - We watch and discuss a retro film that has been restored with Pixcel and Imageworks. Follow along with us as we add color commentary to this 1976 Magic Kingdom film that includes the Swan Boats, restored to glorious retro perfection. So many good things in this one! We hope you enjoyed this episode! If you have any questions, suggestions or find errors please email us podcast@retrodisneyworld.com. Be sure to check back with us very soon for Episode #6 - We discuss World of Motion or Stubborn Donkey Part II, the highly anticipated sequel to Episode 5. The team is also in contract negotiations to possibly record some mini episodes from time to time... Until next time... "Please stand clear of the doors; Por Favor Mantengase Alejado de las Puertas" We have created some original artwork for t-shirts, stickers, pillows, phone cases and more. Our first two designs are inspired by the Electrical Water Pageant and the World of Motion. Episode 114 begins a Three Part conversation with the recent Vice President of Creative Design and Executive Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering Tim Delaney. During this podcast we discuss Tim's early fascination with Walt Disney's visions of the future and technology, his journey into WED (later known as Walt Disney Imagineering), an intriguing look into the concept and creation of EPCOT and Tim's main project within the park ‘The Living Seas Pavilion.' This week we head over to the Living Seas, well The Seas with Nemo and Friends pavilion over at EPCOT to have a chat with Crush. Turtle Talk with Crush is one of my favorite attractions due to the magic and technology behind the attraction. Also due to the interaction aspect of the attraction each show is new and different then the last.

The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #101 for the week of January 11, 2009 I’m recording this week’s show early, as I’ll be visiting Walt Disney World later in the week to cover the marathon and other events, so there won’t be any news this week, but I do have a segment I think you’ll enjoy. I’ll fire up the Wayback Machine as I continue in my EPCOT Retrospective series and take an in-depth (pardon the pun) look at the Living Seas. Ryan Wilson joins me once again as we dive under the sea and look at the history of this pavilion, its changes before and after its opening, and its many wonderful details and hidden treasures. I’ll have a new contest this week before playing some of your voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail TOLL FREE at 888-703-2171. Visit the web site at wdwradio.com Talk about the show by visiting and posting in the WDW Radio Show message forums at DisneyWorldTrivia.com. Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week! Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #100 for the week of January 4, 2009 To celebrate the 100th episode of the show, I thought it would be fun to gather some guests and friends of the show together to look back at the first 100 shows. We’ll talk about some of our favorite guests, memorable and funny moments, and so much more, as Glenn Whelan, Tim Foster, Lori Burke and George Taylor join me around the table to look back and forward on the show. Of course, no anniversary show would be complete without playing back some favorite and memorable clips, so sit back and listen as I tune the dial through some of the memorable moments of the first 100 shows. I’ll update you on out “100% for 100 Shows” fundraising drive with Pat Whitson before announcing the winner of last week’s contest. I’ll play your voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's 100th anniversary episode of the WDW Radio Show. This week goes back to a ride through. The seas pavilion is a wonderful place to take some time and get some cold air and refresh in the middle of the day. You can go through the exit doors or you can hop in line and ride The Seas with Nemo and Friends. However you will not see the Hydrolators from the original Living Seas attraction.

Meandering Mouse and Meandering Mouse Club TV-(AUDIO and VIDEO) Disney Park Fun
*Headphones Suggested* This episode begins with an introduction to The Meandering Minnie Mouse who I will be taking to Walt Disney World this coming week. She tells us what she is looking forward to and we get into some general shenanigans...it's a good laugh for sure. Next up is day three of my ongoing Disney trip report series. I start that with an EPCOT morning which includes a close call with an auto collision while entering EPCOT's parking lot and, of course, the EPCOT rope drop. Come along with us as we are herded like Disney tourist cattle into The Land pavilion in order to retrieve a FastPass for Soarin'. After a morning meandering with me and my pal, experience a ride thru of Test Track and some Disney sound oddities from the Manatee tank at the Living Seas. The last bit of audio weirdness is compliments of Earl from Trapped on Vacation as we hang out at The American Adventure. This show closes with a hustled entry into the Magic Kingdom for a spot on the Tomorrowland bridge to view the Wishes fireworks show above Conderella's castle.
