Then, they cover the biggest movie event of 2026 so far: Phil Lord and Chris Miller's science fiction film ‘Project Hail Mary,' starring Ryan Gosling (31:57). They break down why the film's practicality is incredibly essential to its success and how the movie is beautiful in a way that mainstream Hollywood productions typically aren't. There is something uniquely peaceful about the early morning. Before the noise of the day begins, there is a quiet invitation to sit with God—to listen, to speak, and to simply be in His presence. Morning reminds us that each day is a fresh start, a new opportunity to walk with Him. Psalm 5:3 captures this beautifully: “In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly.” God is not distant or distracted. He hears us. He meets us right where we are, even in the stillness of a new day. Spring mirrors this same sense of renewal. After months of cold and dormancy, life begins to reappear—buds form, colors return, and warmth slowly replaces the chill of winter. It’s a reminder that seasons of barrenness do not last forever. Just as morning brings light after darkness, spring reflects the deeper truth of new life found in Christ. Jesus declared in John 11:25 that He is the resurrection and the life. His resurrection is the ultimate picture of renewal—life overcoming death, hope rising where despair once lingered. When we welcome both a new morning and a new season like spring, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness. His mercies are new every morning. His love continues to renew and restore us, even after difficult or dry seasons in our lives. Spring invites us to open our hearts again—to notice God’s work around us and within us. It calls us to trust that just as He brings life to the earth, He is also bringing new life to our hearts. Main Takeaways Morning is a powerful time to connect with God in stillness and prayer. God hears our prayers and invites us to seek Him at the start of each day. Spring reflects God’s faithfulness and the promise of renewal. Jesus is the ultimate source of new life and hope. Every new day is an opportunity to trust God and follow His leading. BIG Life Devotional | Daily Devotional for Women

I trust God, but sometimes I like to give God suggestions. You know just in case he was 50/50 on what to do, I like to interject by bright ideas and tell him how he could make things work out really good. I occasionally even tell God how he could do “cool things”, as if he was sitting on his throne in heaven stumped over how he could pull off something cool today and he was waiting on me to help him. Do you do that too? I wonder what God thinks of our ideas of taking the path of least resistance. I wonder how God views our tendency to desire what is fastest and easiest. I wonder how God feels about our complete avoidance of hardship, struggle, and suffering. Well, there just so happens to be a story in the bible about this exact thing. Let’s read it together. Matthew 16, Jesus is walking along with his disciples. They’re doing awesome miracles together and making a huge impact every where they go. In fact, they had just finished feeding the crowd of thousands with a small amount of bread and fish. Now they know his power. The disciples know Jesus is the One. They’re all in. Verse 21-23 “From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Understand, Peter was just trying to save Jesus from suffering. He was trying to find an easier way. He was trying to fix this. And Jesus said, THIS SUFFERING DOESN’T NEED TO BE FIXED. THIS HARDSHIP DOESN’T NEED TO BE AVOIDED. That’s a hard pill to swallow. I want my suffering and your suffering to be fixed. Like immediately. I don’t want times to be hard for anyone. If there was something I could do to ease my friend's pain after her loss, gosh I would do it. If I could lift the suffering of my friend whose world has fallen apart, I would do it. If I could make your marriage problems go away, I would in a heartbeat. If I could solve your financial problems, boom, it would be fixed in an instant. If I could lift your burdens… If I could clear the way… If I could bring you healing … If I could restore what has been broken… I would be like Oprah. You get a new car. You get a good marriage. You get health. You get a whole family. You get a bonus. You get a baby. You get your answers. You all get EVERYTHING! No suffering. No struggle. No waiting. All your problems are fixed and there’s nothing but sunshine and glitter ahead, my friend. I really would fix it all for you … If I could. And to that, Jesus would say to me, “Satan, get behind me!” Why? Because just like Peter, I’m focusing on the wrong thing. I’m focusing on human concerns and overlooking the fact that God’s concerns are bigger, greater, and far beyond anything I can imagine. God is in the eternal game where current suffering will be redeemed. I tend to play in the right now game where suffering is always avoided. In your effort to avoid the suffering, go around the hardship, and skip the waiting line, have you become a stumbling block? Remember, that’s what Jesus called Peter. He was a stumbling block. His attempt to fix everything was in the way of God’s good plan. Honey, what if your attempt to fix everything is in the way of God’s good plan? What if God doesn’t need us to fix anything, and instead he needs us to partner with him in the bigger picture of what he is doing. What if this isn’t about what you’re going through right now, this is about what this will create for the future. What if God has magnificent plans that are so far above and beyond your scope of imagination, but the only way to get to them is through this stuff that doesn’t make sense? You know, this stuff you want to avoid. This stuff you want to skip. This stuff you’ve been giving God “suggestions” on fixing. Okay God, so this is going to fall apart? This is going to hurt? This isn’t going to work the way I had hoped? Now isn’t the time? I don’t like it, but I trust you. I will not try to fix your plans. I won’t get in the way of your work with my suggestions of an easier way. God has been trying to clear the way in your life, and you know what he’s been trying to move? YOU. You with your ideas of how it is supposed to be. You with your plans and good suggestions. You with your complete avoidance of current suffering that are for eternal purposes. What? You think you are above current suffering used for eternal purposes? You think you should be exempt from that? Dismissed because you’ve been a good person? Well, Sis, Jesus wasn’t dismissed and I’m pretty sure he was maybe even a little bit of a better person than even you. If Jesus wasn’t above suffering, why would we ever believe we are? I don’t want to be that stumbling block. I don’t want to be in the way of God’s plans. If God says I have to go through this, then I trust it’s for a purpose greater than my comfort. If God says this has to fall apart, I trust he will be doing something new on the other side of this and when I get there I’ll be more like the woman he created me to be. So, here we are Lord, trying our best to get out of the way. Here we are, surrendering to your plan that doesn’t make sense to us. Here we are, trusting you give and you take away, and our hands are to remain open. Here we are, counting on your timing to be better than our own. Here we are, trusting if you don't fix it and we can't avoid it, then you'll carry us through it. SEASON 4 EPISODE 70: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: We are all looking at it backwards: That was Tulsi Gabbard’s passive-aggressive mini-coup against Trump - about Iran, and the elections. That's what she did in her Senate testimony – and what her deputy Joe Kent did when he resigned, a day earlier (and you think THAT was a coincidence of timing?) In a kind of bizarre code, through omission and not commission, they called Trump a liar about Iran and nukes. Not nobly or bravely. But they did it. They left no other conclusion that Trump was and is lying about Iran. Under oath. And THEN Gabbard passive-aggressively called Trump a LIAR AGAIN about the seized ballots in Georgia. Under oath. She testified that HE sent her. It might be a break in the damn; it might be trivial. It is NOT nothing. Because everybody has a moment in which they realize that they have to protect their own assets - and this might've been theirs. Lord knows all the allies have found theirs. Trump literally has no support from anyone, and the EU just started talking to Iran about a deal to get its ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump is neck high in quicksand that he ordered and installed - and he's run out of people to blame. Plus I'll explain what the hell Trump meant when he said “DIG WE MUST" instead of "drill baby drill." (It was his brain defaulting back to 1962 and it's a really bad sign). B-Block (26:00) SPORTSBALL TONIGHT: Are there ANY good feelings left from the US Olympics Men's Hockey Gold? Now the scorer of the winning goal, Jack Hughes, is demanding they give him the puck rather than enshrine it forever at the Hockey Hall of Fame, and an ESPN commentator is demanding we ignore "politics" and admit Russia to the next international tournament (while Russia is aiding Iran, who we are - like it or not - at war with). (34:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Newt Gingrich falls for an internet troll who wants to create an instant Trump Canal in the Middle East using nukes. Rachel Maddow becomes the umpteenth commentator to insist HER favorite Trump scandal should be getting more attention than the others. And not only did the Los Angeles Dodgers desecrate Dodger Stadium by slapping a sponsor name on it - but they then lied and said they HADN'T sold the naming rights. C-Block (56:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: My great grandfather not only turned down stock - circa 1907 - in the company that would become General Motors, but according to family lore he gave the owner the idea for the NAME "General Motors." We are not businessmen.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Prayer to Become an Imitator of Christ

    Your Daily Prayer Podcast

Following Jesus often begins with small, daily choices that require us to set aside our own desires in order to serve others. These moments can appear ordinary—helping someone in need, offering encouragement, or sacrificing our time for those we love. Yet these everyday acts reflect something deeply spiritual: the practice of “dying to self.” In 1 Corinthians 15:31, the Apostle Paul wrote that he “dies daily.” Paul understood that living for Christ requires a continual surrender of our own ambitions, preferences, and comforts. The Christian life isn’t about pursuing self-centered goals; it’s about allowing Christ’s character to shape our actions. Jesus Himself modeled this perfectly. Though He was fully God, He chose to live in humility and dependence on the Father. He spent time in prayer, sought God’s will, and dedicated His life to serving others. As Mark 10:45 reminds us, Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Imitating Christ means learning to follow that same pattern. It may involve sacrificing our time, choosing patience when we feel frustrated, or putting someone else’s needs ahead of our own. These choices are not always easy. Our natural instincts often push us toward comfort and self-interest. But the good news is that we are not expected to live this way through our own strength. God has given believers the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. As we remain connected to Christ, the Spirit produces qualities like love, patience, kindness, and self-control in our lives. When we surrender our desires and follow Christ’s example, we discover something surprising: true joy often grows from a life of selfless service. What may initially feel like sacrifice becomes a pathway to deeper purpose and fulfillment. Every day presents new opportunities to reflect Christ’s love. As we choose humility, service, and obedience, we grow into people who more clearly mirror the heart of Jesus. Main Takeaways The Christian life involves daily surrender and “dying to self.” Jesus modeled humility, obedience, and service during His life on earth. Imitating Christ often happens through small acts of sacrifice and love. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live selflessly. Serving others reflects the character and love of Christ. Today’s Bible Verse “I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31, NASB). March 16-22When Joseph became vizier of Egypt, second only to Pharoah and wearing his ring of authority, he also got a new name that doesn't exactly roll off our English-speaking tongues. It is Zaphnath-paaneah and what it lacks in clarity, it more than makes up in its meaning which is “savior of the world.” Yes, his starving family will come from Canaan, hoping to buy the corn that Joseph has stored in Egypt, but his name signifies even more than that. We'll tell you in this episode.

If the enemy can't get you to fall into sin, he will keep you busy doing good things but not the good things that God wants you to be focused on at the time. The quality of your work is much better than having quantity. The Lord desires you to use your spiritual gifts to further the kingdom and preach the gospel.

Lent is often associated with giving something up for a short period of time—chocolate, social media, or another personal habit. While these practices can be helpful, the deeper purpose of Lent goes far beyond temporary sacrifice. It is an invitation to examine our hearts and allow God to reshape us. In John 15, Jesus describes Himself as the true vine and God the Father as the gardener. Every branch connected to the vine is carefully tended. Branches that do not bear fruit are removed, while fruitful branches are pruned so they can grow even stronger and produce more. Pruning is not comfortable. In gardening, it involves cutting away what is unnecessary so that the plant can flourish. Spiritually, pruning can look similar. God gently reveals attitudes, habits, or priorities that may be preventing us from growing closer to Him. Sometimes those things are obvious sins that need to be removed. Other times they may be distractions or patterns that slowly pull our focus away from Christ. Even good activities can become misplaced priorities if they keep us from remaining connected to the vine. Lent invites us to slow down and reflect. It encourages us to sit quietly before God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what needs to change. This season is not about earning God’s approval—it’s about allowing Him to shape our hearts so we can bear the fruit of His Spirit. As we remain connected to Christ, the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control begins to grow in our lives. These qualities are not produced through willpower alone but through our ongoing relationship with Jesus. When we allow God to prune our hearts, the result is not loss—it is deeper growth, greater freedom, and a life that reflects His character more clearly. Main Takeaways Lent invites believers to examine their hearts and spiritual habits. God, the gardener, prunes our lives so we can grow and bear more fruit. Spiritual pruning may involve removing sinful habits or unhealthy priorities. Remaining connected to Christ allows the fruit of the Spirit to grow in us. The goal of Lent is deeper transformation, not temporary sacrifice. Today’s Bible Verse “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” - John 15:1-4 (NIV) Your Daily Prayer Prayer excerpt for listeners: “Lord, help me remain connected to You and allow Your Spirit to shape my heart.” Listen to the full prayer here. What does it really mean to defend the Christian faith? Pastor Nate Wright, Dr. Michael Thiessen, and Dr. Joe Boot challenge the popular notion that apologetics is about winning arguments or piling up evidence for God's existence. Drawing from 1 Peter 3:15, they make the case that faithful apologetics begins with Christ set apart as Lord — and flows outward as bold proclamation, not intellectual competition. The team explores how the collapse of a shared Christian worldview has transformed the apologetic landscape, why pragmatism has gutted the church's witness, and why true evangelism means confronting the idols of the age with humility, confidence, and total dependence on the Holy Spirit.

As we journey toward Heaven, God, in His kindness, continually reveals who He is and invites us to experience His presence more intimately. Today's storyteller, Sarah Waller from our Homewood, Alabama community, reminds us that in life's hardest moments, surrendering to God opens our eyes to His faithful nearness.   Sarah shares how the Lord gently revealed His Kingship to her in her twenties and the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit in her thirties—showing up in both the big moments and the quiet, everyday ones. These revelations, however, were forged through deep suffering: first, the loss of her mother to cancer, and later, the trial of undergoing an intense brain surgery.   Through every loss and uncertainty, God tenderly called Sarah to rest in this truth—that she is a daughter of the King, fully seen, deeply known, and unconditionally loved.   VERSE OF THE WEEK: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33   CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: What is God teaching you in this season of your life? We'll witness the transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua, hear God's call to be strong and courageous, and follow the story of Rahab, whose unlikely home becomes the first step into the Promised Land. Through these passages, Hunter emphasizes God's relentless pursuit of His people, weaving the scarlet thread of redemption through unexpected places—even into the ancestry of Jesus. Plus, Hunter gives a special shout-out to podcast supporters and invites everyone to live boldly in God's love and joy. This episode promises guidance, inspiration, and a comforting reminder that you are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He comes to the unlikely places. "Be strong and courageous," the Lord tells Joshua, promising to be with him every step of the way as he leads God's people into the land promised to them. But isn't it remarkable where the first steps into this new chapter begin? They turn up not in a grand palace or temple, but in the home of Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho. Through two spies, God's presence arrives in this unlikely house, revealing that his purposes and his love are never restricted by our expectations. The scarlet thread of redemption winds its way through Rahab's life, and it changes everything—not only for her, but for her entire family. That same thread, the saving work of God, is woven into our stories as well. Rahab, once an outsider, becomes a direct ancestor to Jesus—Yeshua, the greater Joshua—showing us that God's love claims even the most unexpected of souls and the most overlooked of homes. Through Rahab, we are reminded that God makes a priority of us. He pursues us, steps into our ordinary lives, and takes possession of hearts, families, and homes. He is not waiting for perfect conditions or perfect people. He invades this world with salvation, making his gospel known, bringing redemption to the least likely and the most broken. If he made Rahab a priority, then he has made you a priority, too. So let us draw strength from his love, and let us be courageous. God is with us every moment, every step, enabling us to lay claim to what is ours in him. Let's live today in the light of this good news: that the God who pursues us has come, and his redeeming work—woven through the pages of our lives—makes all things new. That's a prayer for my own soul, for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son, and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Welcome to Day 2820 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom. Day 2820 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 119:25-32 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2820 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2820 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: Rising from the Dust – The Choice of the Enlarged Heart In our previous episode on this grand expedition, we climbed through the third stanza of the towering mountain that is Psalm One Hundred Nineteen. We explored the "Gimel" section, where the psalmist prayed for his eyes to be opened to the wondrous, supernatural realities hidden within God's instructions. We recognized a profound truth: to be a citizen of God's Kingdom is to be a foreigner, an exile, on this earth. We learned how to seek the counsel of the Creator's decrees, even when the arrogant princes and the rebel spiritual forces of this world conspire against us. Today, we take our next determined step forward, moving into the fourth stanza of this magnificent, alphabetical masterpiece. We are stepping into the "Dalet" section, covering Psalm One Hundred Nineteen, verses twenty-five through thirty-two, in the New Living Translation. If the previous stanza was about looking around at a hostile, foreign landscape, this new stanza is about looking down at the dirt. The external pressure of living in a contested, fallen world has taken a severe internal and physical toll on the psalmist. He is emotionally exhausted, spiritually depleted, and feeling the heavy, suffocating weight of his own mortality. He has hit rock bottom. But from that place of utter desperation, he makes a powerful, deliberate choice to reject the lies of the enemy, and to cling fiercely to the truth of Yahweh. Let us walk into the valley of the dust, and learn how to run again. The first segment is: The Dust of Mortality and the Breath of Life Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses twenty-five through twenty-seven. I lie in the dust; revive me by your word. I told you my plans, and you answered. Now teach me your decrees. Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds. The stanza opens with a stark, devastating confession: "I lie in the dust." Other translations render this as, "My soul clings to the dust." To fully grasp the gravity of this statement, we must view it through the lens of the Ancient Israelite worldview. In biblical cosmology, the "dust" is not just dirt on the ground. It is the ultimate symbol of mortality, the curse, and the grave. In Genesis Chapter Three, after the cosmic rebellion in Eden, humanity was told, "For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return." Furthermore, the dust is the domain of the Serpent—the dark, rebel entity of the Divine Council—who was cursed to eat dust all the days of his life. When the psalmist says his soul is clinging to the dust, he is saying that he feels the gravitational pull of the underworld. He is depressed, broken, and knocking on the doors of Sheol. The chaotic forces of death are actively trying to pull him down into the dirt. But look at his immediate response. He does not surrender to the dust. He cries out, "Revive me by your word." The Hebrew word for "revive" is chayah, which means to give life, to quicken, or to restore. The psalmist is asking for a reversal of the curse of Eden. Just as God initially breathed the breath of life into the dust to create the first human, the psalmist is asking God to breathe His living Word into this current state of deadness, to re-create him, and to pull him back into the land of the living. He continues, "I told you my plans, and you answered. Now teach me your decrees." This reveals a deeply intimate, transparent relationship with the Creator. The psalmist has not hidden his ambitions, his failures, or his dead-end strategies from God. He laid all his human plans on the table. And what was the result? He realized his own plans were insufficient to get him out of the dust. Therefore, he pivots, begging for divine instruction. He trades his fragile, flawed human plans for the eternal decrees of the Most High. He pleads, "Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds." When you are lying in the dust, you do not need superficial platitudes; you need deep, structural understanding. He wants to comprehend the architecture of God's cosmic order. If he can just understand how Yahweh has ordered the universe, he can fix his mind on those wonderful deeds, rather than the despair of his current situation. The second segment is: Melting in Sorrow and Rejecting the Lie Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses twenty-eight and twenty-nine. I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word. Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. The intense emotional agony continues into verse twenty-eight. "I weep with sorrow." The literal Hebrew translation is incredibly poetic and painful: "My soul melts from heaviness," or "My soul drops away from grief." Have you ever experienced a sorrow so profound, a grief so heavy, that you felt like your very identity was dissolving? That your strength was literally melting away like wax before a fire? That is the Dalet experience. The psalmist is physically and spiritually liquefying under the pressure of his exile. His remedy remains consistent: "Encourage me by your word." Literally, "Raise me up according to your word." If his soul is melting and dropping down to the dust, he needs the supernatural leverage of God's promises to lift him back up to a standing position. And then, he makes a fascinating, crucial pivot in verse twenty-nine. He prays, "Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions." Older translations render this as, "Remove from me the way of deceit." In the context of the Divine Council worldview, the "way of deceit" is the operating system of the rebel gods. The cosmic rebellion is fundamentally built upon a lie—the lie that humanity can flourish independently from the Creator, that we can be our own gods, and that we can define good and evil for ourselves. When we are melting in sorrow, the enemy will always offer us a deceptive, shortcut solution. The way of falsehood whispers, "Just compromise. Just take matters into your own hands. Just numb the pain with the idols of this culture." The psalmist recognizes how vulnerable he is to these lies when he is in the dust. He begs Yahweh to graciously remove the path of falsehood from his vision. The ultimate antidote to cosmic deception is the gracious gift of God's instructions. The Torah is the anchor of reality. It prevents us from lying to ourselves when the darkness tries to distort our vision. The third segment is: The Stubborn Choice of Truth Psalm One Hundred Nineteen: verses thirty and thirty-one. I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations. I cling to your laws. Lord, don't let me be put to shame! Having asked God to remove the way of deceit, the psalmist now exercises his human agency. He makes a fierce, stubborn, definitive choice. "I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations." Literally, the Hebrew reads, "I have chosen the way of truth; I have set your judgments before me." This is a profound moment of spiritual maturity. Faith is not just a passive feeling; it is an active, deliberate choice, especially when your soul is melting. In the middle of the dust, surrounded by the lies of the rebel principalities, the psalmist stakes his claim. He places the judgments of God right in front of his face, so that they become the only lens through which he views the world. Because he has made this choice, he takes action: "I cling to your laws." Notice the beautiful contrast here. Back in verse twenty-five, his soul was clinging to the dust. The gravity of death had a hold on him. But now, through an act of the will, he redirects his grip. He lets go of the dust, and he violently cleaves to the testimonies of Yahweh. He holds onto the Word of God like a drowning man holding onto a life raft in a hurricane. And because he is clinging to the True King, he makes a bold appeal: "Lord, don't let me be put to shame!" In the ancient Near East, honor and shame were the ultimate social currencies. To be put to shame meant that your trust was misplaced, that your God had failed you, and that the mocking, hostile nations were right all along. The psalmist is essentially saying, "Yahweh, I have bet my entire existence on Your way of truth. I am clinging exclusively to Your laws. If I go down, Your reputation...

When our hearts feel troubled, Jesus invites us to trust Him again. This short midweek prayer creates space to pause, breathe deeply, and return to Jesus’s words in John 14:1–6, where He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” In this guided prayer, we acknowledge the places where worry, uncertainty, or longing have unsettled our hearts and bring them honestly before God. Jesus reminds us that we are not alone—that He is with us, that He is preparing a place for us, and that He will return for us. As we pray, we ask for help to trust Him more deeply and to follow Him in the way He has already made clear: to love God fully and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Take a few quiet minutes to slow down, listen for God’s invitation, and rest in the presence of the One who leads us in truth and life. "Born in Chalcedon, he was little of stature, like Zaccheus, but great in spirit and faith. He denied himself to the world at the age of fifteen and settled near the River Euphrates in a little hut, where he atoned for his sins, and prayed to God, at first with his teacher Mayum and then, after Mayum's death, alone. By the power of his prayers he filled an empty well with water, healed the sick of various pains and tamed wild beasts. There was a tamed lion with him as his servant. He had insight into distant happenings. When robbers attacked a stylite, Pionius, at some distance from him, and beat him up to such an extent that he decided to come down from his pillar and go to complain to the judges, St Aninus saw his intention in his soul and sent him a letter by means of his lion, telling him to set aside his intention, to forgive his assaulters and to continue in his asceticism. He was inexpressibly generous. The bishop of Neo-Caesarea made a gift to him of a donkey, to ease his carrying of water from the river, but he gave this donkey to some poor man who had complained to him of his poverty. The bishop gave him a second donkey, but he gave that away. Then the bishop gave him a third donkey, not for his own but only to serve as a water-carrier, to be kept and returned. At the time of his death, he saw Moses, Aaron and Or coming to him and calling: 'Aninus, the Lord is calling you. Get up and come with us.' This he revealed to his disciples, and gave his spirit to the Lord whom he had served so faithfully. He was 110 years old when he finished his earthly course." (Prologue)

Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided. John 9:13-16 A Rulebreaker The Third Commandment could not be clearer: “Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy.” But to avoid all confusion, God went on to explain, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work” (Exodus 20:9-10). So, Jesus is a rulebreaker, right? He worked on the Sabbath! He made mud, put it on a blind man’s eyes, and told him to wash in the Pool of Siloam, all of which led to this man seeing for the first time in his life. Some of the Pharisees could not help but conclude, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” This wasn’t the first time Jesus had generated a heated debate by healing someone on the Sabbath. From the earliest days of his earthly ministry, Jesus was causing his opponents to have serious bouts of consternation as they tried to square Jesus’ claims of being the Son of God and the promised Messiah with his apparent refusal to obey God’s holy law. But was it a refusal? Hardly. It was a fulfillment! Jesus once explained, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27). His point was simple: of course, God wants us to honor him by resting from our labor at some point every week to hear and ponder his saving Word. But he also calls us to put his Word into practice by regularly demonstrating love for our neighbors in need. The Christian life is not an either/or proposition. It’s an everyday both/and way of life! Our Savior never overturns God’s Word. Instead, he fulfills it. Perfectly. Prayer: Jesus, empower me to be like you more and more every day. Amen. I was on a flight from Chicago to Newark, and I was busily working until suddenly the pilot put on the brakes. We weren't really near Newark yet, so I tried to figure out what's going on. It looked as if the plane was beginning to circle, and our wing was dipped down a little bit. So pretty soon I said, "You know, I believe I've seen that house before. Those trees look familiar." I got to see them again, and again, and another time. Yep, we were in that time warp that is dreaded by every frequent flier called the holding pattern. We weren't standing still. No, I'm happy to say we were not standing still. That wouldn't have been good. But we were using up time, we were using up fuel. We were in constant motion; we just weren't making any progress. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Stuck in a Holding Pattern." That leads us to our word for today from the Word of God from Philippians 3, beginning in verse 12, where Paul says, "Not that I have already obtained all this or have already been made perfect. But I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it, but one thing I do. Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Now, if anyone could have been satisfied with where he was spiritually it would be the Apostle Paul. He was living one of the greatest Christian lives in history. You can tell from this passage that in spite of that he is refusing to stay in spiritual neutral. He's certainly not going to go in reverse and live on his spiritual memories. "Forgetting the things that are behind" he says. No, he's in high gear. He says, "I'm forgetting what's back there. I'm pressing on. I haven't got it all yet. I want the rest of Jesus. I want to know Christ!" Paul never flew, but I don't think he would have liked the holding pattern. You know, maybe you're in a holding pattern right now spiritually. You started on your journey with Jesus. You've made some progress, but somewhere along the way you slowed down and you're circling ground that you've covered before. You're not standing still; you're just circling in this holding pattern. Churches get in holding patterns. Ministry organizations get in holding patterns. Oh they keep their calendar full: time for the banquet, time for this activity, time for the board, time for the committee. But are they taking any new ground for the Lord? Spiritually healthy people are restless people. They're aggressively pursuing more of God's power in their lives than they've ever tasted before. They want a more intimate relationship with Jesus than they've experienced yet. They desire to have a greater effectiveness in praying than they've ever had before. They want to make a greater difference with the rest of their life than they've ever made before. Am I describing you - this restlessness for more in prayer, more of God's power, more intimacy with Jesus; knowing Him better than you've ever known Him; making a greater difference for Him? These kinds of spiritual healthy people want to make more of a difference than they've ever made. Is that you? Is that your church? Let it begin with you, breaking out of your holding pattern, getting moving again. See, it begins when you say, "Lord, I'm tired of this plateau. Activity is not obedience. I know that. Busyness is not power. I want all You have, Lord, I want more of You than I've ever tasted before. I want to make more of a difference with my life than I've ever made before." Find some other people who feel the same way and pursue the Lord together in prayer times. Make it a discipline to find new ground in God's Word, to get to Him daily. Circling the same ground in that airplane, I was restless to get on toward the goal. And it was a good feeling when we finally started moving in the right direction. Aren't you tired of a spiritual holding pattern?

One of my favorite people in the Bible is Peter. Do you know why? Because despite messing up—several key times in his life—he made a wonderful comeback. And God used him mightily. Peter reminds me that we serve the God of second chances. Maybe you need a second chance, but you might be thinking it's too late. Maybe you've made one mistake too many. Maybe you feel like God is fed up with you and has quietly put you on the shelf. Well, think of Peter. Peter was always making big promises. “I'll follow You anywhere.” “I'll never forsake You.” “I'll never deny You.” “I'll even die for You.” But look at his failures. Jesus actually rebuked him and said, Get behind me, Satan (Matthew 16:23), when Peter gave him completely wrong advice. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Peter started talking about building memorials—and God interrupted from heaven, basically saying, “Peter, be quiet and listen to my Son.” He stepped out of the boat to walk on water—and sank. He slept when he should have been praying—even on the night of Jesus' betrayal. And worst of all, he denied his Lord three times. When Jesus was on trial, Peter should have stood up and been counted. Instead, he caved. He turned away. He fled. Why would Jesus choose Peter? Because Jesus doesn't look for perfection. He looks for hearts he can restore. That brash, impulsive, big-talking fisherman became one of the greatest spokesmen for Christ and the early church. After the resurrection, Jesus didn't discard Peter—he restored him. He recommissioned him. He gave him another chance. Maybe you've been talking the talk but not walking the walk. Maybe you feel like you blew your testimony at work, at home, or with your friends. Listen carefully: You cannot mess up so badly that God cannot salvage you. Don't underestimate the power of the God of second chances. Remember Peter. And ask God to do for you what he did for him. He's the same God. He hasn't changed. And he loves you just as much as he loved Peter. Get up. Turn back. And go for it.

As the people of God we must learn to know everything we can about God.
