Few places in a football stadium have more mystique than the technical area! Prowling the perimeter of the pitch, or sat in comfort on the reclining, heated padded seats, this is where the emperor coaches survey the battlefield on the pitch. After the niceties of the pre-match talk its onto the pitch where communication with the players is tested in the cauldron of the stadium. Afterwards, in the tranquility of the managers room, pleasantries are exchanged; well sometimes! No shows and long visits, when the match is done the staff get to mix together and share information and friendships are renewed. Finally we turn to some things which have left the game - Bovril and Baths. Mainstays of dressing rooms for decades they are now practically extinct. And while their replacements may have more scientific benefit, the old school ways give rise to some better stories than Isotonic drinks and individual showers! The history of Flint's food culture has always been largely overshadowed by the stories of its industries. Author Dave Liske discusses his new book "Flint Coney Islands: A Savory History" in this interview. The origins and rapid expansion of the number of Macedonian Coney shops in Flint paralleled the explosive growth of the city's automotive industry throughout the twentieth century. Born of an immigrant escaping the war-torn Balkans in the early 1900s who combined his idea for one dish with the skills of butchering and meatpacking experts from Wisconsin and Germany, the simple Flint Coney became an institution among the city's autoworkers, tradespeople, and families. Mainstays such as Flint Original Coney Island, Angelo's, and Atlas were frequented by regular patrons for decades, with others such as Capitol and Starlite carrying on those traditions today. Sometimes all you need to revamp your real estate strategy is to discover the tactics of others. On today's episode of The Real Estate Sales Podcast, Jimmy is joined by Jennifer Murtland, real estate agent at eXp Realty and co-host of the Real Estate Fight Club Podcast, to learn the secret to listing success. Be successful when knocking on doors. Jennifer's favorite part of sales has always been cold calling and knocking on people's doors. But how does she do it successfully? Well, Jennifer looks like a suburban mom. Ipso facto, she can knock on doors just about anywhere and nobody bats an eye. When you approach a home, simply say you're a realtor, explain why you're there and ask what you need. More people will answer the door for a female than a man. Jennifer's tips for a male: Wear khakis and a polo, and carry a gift bag to store your flyers. What to do when the conversation starts: The ultimate success is gaining their contact information. So if someone is interested in the conversation, just simply ask for the best way to contact them. Don't be passive. Instead, ask for what you want, and people will usually give it to you. If Jennifer realizes someone has a motivation to talk with her, she'll set the next step. Don't push for information from someone who doesn't want to talk or hear from you. Jennifer's Mainstays for Lead Generation: There are many shiny objects in real estate, and there are many ways to be successful. Jennifer's tip is to find two ways that work for you. For example, Jennifer values time efficiency. The most time-efficient way to generate leads is cold calling. Ergo, Jennifer likes cold calling. In this market, you can't wait for things to come on the market. So Jennifer uses tactics like circle prospecting and door-knocking to find houses before they're listed. Strengths and Weaknesses of Realtors Today: Math is many realtors' biggest weakness. But when you deal with a client's largest asset (AKA their home), they need and deserve an agent with math skills The biggest asset? Ability to communicate what's happening in the marketplace for their community. To know that, you need to ask questions. Use platforms that give good results. Jennifer recommends the lead generation platform Vulcan7. For Jennifer's coupon code for this platform, click here. If you want to contact Jennifer, give her a call or text at (513) 400-1691 and tune in to her podcast, The Real Estate Fight Club. Maine Beer Co was founded in 2009 during the financial crisis, a challenging time for attorneys such as Dan Kleban. Having witnessed the ugly underbelly of capitalism, Dan and his brother Dave sought to build a brewery that could be successful by maintaining a moral approach to sustainability. The company sought success not through rapid growth and expansion, rather by treating the environment and his employees well, creating a virtuous cycle. Anne Marisic, the Director of Marketing and Communication, highlights how she discovered Maine Beer Co and the pull that compelled her to partake in their mission. She points out that small, intentional, daily steps combined with long term strategic efforts - such as applying for grants - have allowed Maine Beer Company to take big steps towards its goals of reducing its environmental footprint. We discuss the sensibilities and inspiration behind the appearance, aroma, and flavors of Maine Beer Co’s beers. Guiding principles extend to packaging; bottle conditioning, iconic, thick brown glass half liter bottles and concise branding stand out on the shelves. Mainstays such as Woods and Waters, Peeper and Lunch are named for initiatives linked to 1% For The Planet, an organization and business network central to Maine Beer Co’s environmental stewardship efforts. Success resulting from critical acclaim for the beers looks are plain to see. Dan also discusses the overlap of Maine Beer Company’s environmental work and equity, diversity and inclusion. While the Brewers Association - of which the Chair of the Associate Board of Directors - is working to address social justice, members, regardless of their beliefs, should start by setting a good example. “If you care about the environment you care about equity.” Find Maine Beer Co. Join us, as Spaghetti & Frank discuss 'Jammin Me', a cover of the late Tom Petty addressing the chaotic political climate as the country enters the final weeks before Election Day. In their own segment, we talk first to Eddie Spaghetti and then to Frank Meyer, each telling us in detail about the song, their life and their career. Originally released in 1987 and co-written by Bob Dylan and Mike Campbell, “Jammin' Me” was a scathing takedown of the culture and society at the time. With some updated lyrics, Spaghetti and Meyer express equal contempt for the current political climate. Make sure to stream 'Jammin Me' NOW wherever you stream your music.

Sarah Slaton is a songwriter that expresses pathos both poignant and relatable (Denver Westword). An Arkansas native, Slaton taught herself to play guitar in the shadow of the Ozarks before making her way out West to Denver. Slaton founded and fronted the Colorado trio, EDISON, recognized for their tireless touring efforts. The band traveled over 150,000 miles between 2014-2018 and with a relentless DIY approach signed with Rhyme & Reason Records. Edison toured with Iron & Win, Jared & The Mill, and opened for Nathaniel Rateliff, Gregory Alan Isakov, Andrew McMahon, and Shakey Graves. The band saw national acclaim with their debut LP, Familiar Spirit, with positive reviews from Consequence of Sound, No Depression, and features on Daytrotter, Jam In The Van, and Relix Sessions. Slaton stepped out with her first solo single with a summer-ready tune, Dance In The Sun. The song channels Fleetwood Mac with its multi-layered vocals and vintage guitar tones. The Colorado artist flew to Los Angeles to work with Lewis Pesacov (Local Natives, Nikki Lane) who produced and engineered the co-write. His neighbor, Garrett Ray (Vampire Weekend), swung by to lay down the drums. The Colorado artist heads into 2020 with collaboration on the mind after assembling a band of friends who join Slaton on stage. Mainstays are Sarah Joelle (of Lola Rising) on the keys, Lief Sjostrom on the cello, Matt Fink on the drums, and Kind Dub, a socially conscious hip-hop duo, joining festival sets featuring their collaboration tracks, "Water In The Well", "Limited Time" and "Elevated Life”. Bobby is joined by Sarah & her dog Copeland to discuss, Touring, Colorado, Music, Red Rocks Amphitheater, outdoor life, Covid-19 & much more. The Husky defense has some attrition to overcome from last season. Mainstays like Greg Gaines and Jaylen Johnson along the defensive line as well as the linebackers and the secondary, which lost five full-time starters between both groups, has seen plenty of turnover, but due to versatility and some talented underclassmen, the Huskies like where they're at as they are just two weeks from the kickoff of the season. On Friday, the guys from Dawgman.com got the chance to check in with two players and a coach to see how strongly they feel about how things are coming along. Pete Kwiatkowski feels like he has a good group of players who have really improved and the feeling is that even though most people tend to focus on double-digit sacks, he's more worried about getting consistent pressure on the quarterback, getting him to move off of his spot and forcing things since the sacks will come. He said he wouldn't be showing up every day if he didn't think this group could get it done. Giving Kwiatkowski some sense of comfort is the presence of Benning Potoa'e who has moved inside. Potoa'e says he's working on getting his recognition down and that he's making progress on reading things, but Kwiatkowski said moving inside has allowed him to play freer where he doesn't have to worry about contain anymore like he did when he was playing on the edge. Senior defensive back Myles Bryant, the defacto leader of the deep patrol, likes where things are at and feels like he's been coached well enough since he arrived to be able to play either safety or nickel and he would be ready to go, but he also says he doesn't mind where he lines up as long he can compete. He also gave his thoughts on freshman Cameron Williams and what makes him so good at what he does even though he's still very young. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The NBA center position may have more mystery than ever before. Mainstays at the top like Dwight Howard and Marc Gasol both have quesion marks because of health and age. Can the best center in the league be a guy who has never made the playoffs like DeMarcus Cousins? Can it be someone who only has one year under his belt like KAT? Can it be two guys who can't even be in the game in the closing minutes because of their putrid free throw numbers like DeAndre Jordan and Andre Drummond? We answer all of those questions, and focus on a few other guys like Myles Turner, Rudy Gobert, Joakim Noah and much more. Episode #45: Despite the music industry's economic downturn, more and more music festivals have popped up and many continue to thrive. Because of the booming demand for tickets, live performances have become a vital revenue stream for many artists. But have we hit “peak festival”? Mainstays like Coachella and Lollapalooza have become increasingly corporate, and independently-run festivals contend that competition for is a huge issue in planning their events. We talk to three indie festival organizers, Nick Blasko (Rifflandia), Bob Babisch (Summerfest) and Zale Schoenborn (Pickathon), about the fate of their business and alternative festival models.

A Bohemian farmer's dead wife returns to him, and their love endures, but at a gruesome price. A geisha prolongs her life by turning into a cherry tree. A journalist, haunted by the half-forgotten killing of a Bosnian couple, watches their story, and his own wartime tragedy, slip away from him. A dying American romances the ghost of his high school sweetheart while a homeless salaryman in Tokyo animates paper cutouts of ancient heroes. Are ghosts memories, fantasies, or monsters? Is there life in death? Vollmann has always operated in the shadowy borderland between categories, and these eerie tales, however far-flung their settings, all focus on the attempts of the living to avoid, control, or even seduce death. Vollmann's stories will transport readers to a fantastical world where love and lust make anything possible. Praise for Last Stories and Other Stories "Vollmann's fiction has always defied easy categorization. Here, he straddles, twists, and morphs action-adventure, horror, political thriller, fantasy, and literary fiction. What gives the book coherence is his singular style: elaborate and picaresque, with a rich vocabulary. . .Mainstays of horror and the supernatural figure prominently, and it's especially exciting to read these pop-fiction conventions treated with Vollmann's narrative richness."--Publishers Weekly "Creatively sourced, boldly imagined, and incandescently written supernatural stories. . . Throughout this ingeniously fabulist, erotic, musing, and satirical treasury, Vollmann gives monstrous and alluring form to the forces that haunt us, from desire and love to regret and loss, as he contemplates with ardor, sorrow, bemusement, and wonder the beauty and terror of life and death and the vast mystery of the hereafter."--ALA Booklist William T. Vollmann is the author of seven novels, three collections of stories, and a seven-volume critique of violence, Rising Up and Rising Down. He is also the author of Poor People, a worldwide examination of poverty through the eyes of the impoverished themselves; Riding Toward Everywhere, an examination of the train-hopping hobo lifestyle; and Imperial, a panoramic look at one of the poorest areas in America. He has won the PEN Center USA West Award for Fiction, a Shiva Naipaul Memorial Prize and a Whiting Writers' Award. His journalism and fiction have been published in The New Yorker, Esquire, Spin and Granta. Vollmann lives in Sacramento, California.
