Have you ever wondered how one of the biggest hip-hop icons, Andre 3000, could transition seamlessly to the world of flute music? As we unravel this musical marvel, we also share a hilarious tale of an unexpected encounter at a gas station. We ponder over Andre's role in crafting this masterpiece and imagine a world where airports echo with flute music. From the rhythmic beats of hip-hop, we move to the pulsating energy of the NBA. Amid talks of basketball strategies and team dynamics, we dive into the intriguing world where sports and rap music intersect. We analyze whether non-rappers should venture into rap - following the footsteps of Shaquille O'Neal and Rick Ross, who made waves with their Maybach Music track. We also evaluate the Atlanta Falcons' current performance, debate their coaching decisions and explore the potential impact of a key player change. The last part of our chat takes us to the hallowed halls of Morehouse College, where we navigate the significance of freshman orientation and crown form, narrating a thrilling incident featuring Dean Darden. We throw light on the lesser-known struggles of off-campus students and their struggle to match crown forum schedules. Shifting our lenses to the pandemic-affected world, we discuss the rising haircut prices, the revered place of barbershops in the African American community, and the importance of striking a balance between quality and cost. So tune in and join us in these enlightening discussions!Support the show

Then we move on to more lighter news...we discuss the recent photos of Diddy and Lori Harvey out with Steve Harvey and family; how do we feel about this matter? In what should be called "The Wendy Williams Episode", Axe takes the shotty from Sid and #OhMyGodWow exposes her Nigerian Crush *insert emoji eyes here*. They decide to stay on the topic of the Motherland and discuss Nigeria's own Wale, his career and new "Folarin" single. Wale admiration naturally segue into the artists of and retention issues with MMG. The duo then ranks the 5 "Maybach Music"s in anticipation of Rick Ross' "Port of Miami 2" album release. Sid thinks 'ascending order' on tracks with multiple rappers is pertinent, while Axe favors 'descending order'. Seth and I pay homage to one of our favorite rappers in our time, the biggest boss Rick Ross. Since making a major entrance in the hiphop game in 2006 Ross has probably been the most consistent and fire rappers. Debuting with "everyday I'm hustling" to the more recent "Rather you than me" Rick Ross has definitely held down a supreme status the rap game> Nothing but respect and salute the big homie. Peace!
This week we were joined by Sydney musician OKENYO, who spoke to us about her new single Woman's World. She spoke about equality in the corporate world, making political statements through art. We spoke about the toxic culture of sexual violence in the music industry, from Rick Ross recently stating that he wouldn’t sign a lady to Maybach Music because he wouldnt be able to not have sex with them, to R Kelly and Dr Luke. To counter that we wanted to share NPR's list of the 150 Greatest Albums Made By Women. In current politics, Trump has announced on Twitter that transgender people will be banned from serving in the US millitary, despite the military spending five times as much on Viagra as it would on transgender troops' medical care. We rounded off the show with the new Charli XCX track Boys. The self-directed, boy-packed video, which turns the tables on gender roles and the male gaze in pop videos, has Diplo and Khalid cuddling with puppies, Joe Jonas tucking into a tall stack, Riz Ahmed getting cozy with a teddy bear, Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie in a pile of rose petals, and so on. Women In The Arts will be hosting a panel discussion on July 29 in Erskineville as part of Island Salon's launch. Island Salon unites a band of female artists across a broad spectrum of media in an immersive, island-inspired cinema experience. We'll be hosting a panel talk with Island Salon participants Philippa Barr, Kate Brown, Jannah Quill and Eugene Choi, so come along for some live music, poetry, performance and conversation. More details here.

Today on Talk of the Town, The Middle Men will be discussing Hip Hop Crews. There are a lot of crews comprised of artists that are well-versed in the industry. Hip Hop Crews date back to when Hip Hop first started with Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, Juice Crew, BDP, Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Alcoholiks, Dogg Pound etc. The Middle Men would like to compare the current hip hop crews to assess whether or not these current current crews have any dominance. What makes a strong crew? What types of things makes a crew different from others? Why do some label formulate their artists into crews? (Cash Money, Young Money, Maybach Music, Baby Boy Records) What would make a label want to sign an entire crew instead of one artist? How can crews continue to stick together and work without splitting up? Who has the best crew of artist out right now? Does the label have any control over a hip hop crew?

This commentary from that show focused on the entire mainstream media (MSM) coverage about the Somali pirate scenario, the rise of more extreme right-wing organizations in the U.S. since the election of Pres. Barack Obama (and why in a way, it's a pretty silly scenario on multiple levels in regards to being scared of certain Black People) and some other things here and there. We had a great interview with Dave Kusek (instructor at Berklee School of Music amongst other accomplishments), the co-author of book The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution. Some of the subject matter we touched on during the interview included how technology has totally changed the current state of music industry in the past 10 - 15 years, how hard working independent artists currently have some of the most optimal chances to distribute, promote and sell their music to the masses due to things like internet innovations (Web 2.0, self-distribution options for music & content, etc.), where the current music industry should change to be both profitable and give music to the people they way they want, reaching out for niche audiences (esp. in the different genres of Black Music) and more!
