After a long hiatus hosts Will Payne Harrison and India Ramey are back with new episodes and a new logo. This episode Will Payne is interviewing India about her new album Baptized by the Blaze out on August 23rd. India Ramey blazes a trail through cinematic spaghetti western landscapes to wood floored Honkytonks and the Appalachian foothills. India's musical journey was not typical. “Having grown up poor, there was a lot of pressure for me to ‘go to college and make money' so I convinced myself that music was a hobby”. Ramey, a domestic violence survivor graduated college, got a law degree and became a domestic violence prosecutor. “I thought if I was helping people like my Mom, I would like being a lawyer more”. Despite her love of helping people, Ramey's love for music won in the end. She gave up her law career to become a full time musician and songwriter and has never looked back. Featured as one of the “Must See Acts at SXSW, a Nashville's Lighting 100 artist of the week, a two-time Americanafest showcasing artist, and one of NPR's “10 Nashville Artists on the Rise”, India has only continued to rise among the ranks of as one of Country and Americana's brightest up and coming, emerging artists. Her most recent album, Shallow Graves debuted at number six on the Euro Americana Charts and landed a song as Rolling Stone's pick of the week. Billboard says of her performance in her 2020 Nashville residency performance, “The rollicking set recalls everyone from Tammy Wynette to Wanda Jackson.” Nashville's Americana radio station, WMOT says India is the perfect mixture of Loretta Lynn and Neko Case, Rolling Stone describes her as “Part Black Sabbath, part honky-tonk” and the BBC's Ralph McClean says “India is a singer of the truth, she knows the value of a well-told tale sung with passion and honesty. She is a bright light in the darkness. Long may she shine." Please rate and review the podcast and share with your friends. From Crisis to Crisis - The Married Years (A Superman and Lois Podcast)
(Continuing the march towards the wedding, here is a re-upload of an episode of FCTC's coverage of Final Night! Enjoy!) Welcome to the two hundredth and sixty-fifth episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format. Final Night continues! This time out Mike and Jeff continue their coverage of Final Night by looking at the main books and crossovers that came out during Week Three! First up is Action Comics #727, which sees Superman doing a bit of a retro thing by jumping instead of flying. He's not doing it to be cool or old school, though. Nope. His powers continue to fade away as the sun continues to be consumed by the Sun Eater. Bad guys use the chaos to steal several Special Crimes Unit battle suits, which Superman has to deal with as an unnamed man has to make his way through a snow covered Metropolis and learns about the good and bad of humanity. Mike also gives a quick history lesson in the middle of the notes where he probably gets something wrong. Then, in Final Night #3, things go from bad to apocalyptic. Ted Knight, the Golden Age Starman, does some figuring and realizes that the diameter of the sun is off. It turns out that Sun Eater's feeding cycle involves causing the star it is eating to go nova, which is great for the Sun Eater, because it propels it to the next star, but is kind of bad for all life in the system the sun provides light for. Finally, the boys look at the other crossover issues which include Final Night Parallax Emerald Night #1, Superboy #33, Aquaman #26, and Detective Comics #703! Vickie Stout and Carla Sue Atkins were half-sisters. The teens, who were extremely close with each other, share the same mother. were very close. The girls walked to a combination bait shop, restaurant, and convenience store called "The Furnace" to pick up some snacks. Witnesses report seeing the girls talking to someone in a blue pickup truck. That's the last time anyone has seen the sisters. In the days that followed, local law enforcement labeled the sisters as runaways. A hiker then called the police after smelling a foul odor. Deputies discovered the girls' bodies about 75 feet apart, along with shotgun shells and a light blue stain found on a tree. The autopsy revealed a shotgun killed the girls, but their bodies were too decomposed to reveal if they'd been sexually assaulted. Journalist Hailey Holloway heads back to Gainesville, Florida to dig into the mysterious murder of Judy MacFarlane. Judy's inexplicable death was one of the strangest cases of her time, but it was buried and long-forgotten. Hailey is teaming up with the first detective to re-open the case since Judy's death in 1992 to try and figure out what happened to the young mother of four, why her murder seems to have been pushed aside, and sort through the complicated list of who may have been responsible.
In this episode, we sit down with Author / Journalist Maureen Boyle. During her career as a Journalist, Maureen covered many different stories for the newspaper, one of the most memorable would be the New Bedford Highway Serial Killer. In 2017 Maureen released her first book Shallow Graves: The Hunt for the New Bedford Highway Serial Killer, about these nine murders, which are still unsolved. Maureen's extensive knowledge of the case and her search for information in the streets of the city and the homes of the family members looking for answers gives the reader a different side of the case that they may not have seen on the nightly news. In addition to Shallow Graves, Maureen tells us about her most recent book, Child Last Seen: The Search for Patty Desmond. We also discuss her thoughts on the ever-evolving landscape of digital reading and how it will be different for students studying journalism today. You can find all three books by Maureen Boyle at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Audible, or wherever books are sold. In this fun episode, Joyce meets up with writing/directing team Sonya Chwyl and Anik Desmarais-Spencer. Their latest short horror comedy Slip poses a sadly relatable question for these inflationary times: “How far will you go to keep your shitty rental?” Slip just won Audience Choice at this year's Short Circuit Pacific Film Festival and you can watch it on the big screen for free in Regina, Ottawa and St. John's as part of Short Circuit's 2023 National Tour. Anik and Sonya's last film Baby Teeth won Outstanding BC Film in Short Circuit's 2020 festival and both films have screened in festivals US and Canada wide. Listen up as this dynamic duo not only “dissects” the glory—and the gory—of using fake blood on screen, they also share:· What they learned from previous films.· Why, for them, co-directing is like "being in a solid, committed relationship.”· What they did to get a corpse's POV shot for Baby Teeth. The floodgates that was the pandemic has been completely opened this year, and we have been submerged in tons of new Rock n' Punk n' Metal.

Welcome to Drone World, the podcast by COPTRZ! In this episode, Sam Denniff & Tom Garnett join us to discuss some of the best stories coming out of January from the Public Safety sector. They also give some great insight into the direction drone usage is heading in for Police, Fire & Search and Rescue teams, as the technology becomes more widely adopted and the standard of pilots increases. Tom & Sam explains how LiDAR could be used to help police assess shallow graves, natural disasters and map/recreate crime scenes. Sam says, “Maps and models can be used as evidence now […] What we're seeing is scans of massive areas of ground and noticing that certain areas look disturbed. For example for shallow graves or areas where evidence has been buried, traditionally you'd have officers walking hand in hand across a field, and spend a lot of money on overtime for those officers. Now you can use a drone and complete the survey in a fraction of the time.” To hear this and more, tune in to this weeks episode of Drone World. Kevin is on his own again… While 2020 was a rotten year, it did allow artists time off the road to focus on giving us a plethora of albums in the world of Rock n' Punk n' Metal in 2021. This year was “unpredictable” at best, and like we stated last year: Nothing gets us through hard times like music! Some of these groups and albums we've talked about before, but we thought it was worth the time to recognize all of the amazing recorded output of 2021!What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we look back on another tumultuous year that had its ups and downs, but mostly ups for the world of rock n' punk n' metal (minus the touring). In celebration of the New Year, we wanted to find some nuggets of joy from the last 12-months. We hope everyone's families are safe, and that you are able to take some time to kick back and rock with us! Happy New Year everyone!Songs this week include:Minefield - “Lady Danger” from Minefield (2021)Helloween - “Indestructible” from Helloween (2021)The Bronx - “Participation Trophy” from The Bronx VI (2021)The Night Flight Orchestra - “How Long” from Aeromantic II (2021)Turnstile - “BLACKOUT” from GLOW ON (2021)Mary's Blood - “Hunger” from Mary's Blood (2021)We Are The Union - “Pasedena” from Ordinary World (2021)Creeper - “Midnight” from American Noir (2021)Haunt - “Beautiful Distraction” from Beautiful Distraction (2021)Jason Bieler & The Baron Von Bielski Orchestra - “Bring Out Your Dead” from Songs From The Apocalypse (2021)If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
India Ramey - "Cocktail for Christmas" from the 2021 album Christmas Times A'Comin' 2021 on Medicine Show Records. This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed songs selected by Brian Foss, host of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. Brian has been doing a punk rock Christmas special every year since 2004 and has been a Christmas Day on-air DJ since 2012. He will be hosting his non-traditional Christmas broadcast from noon to 6pm on Saturday, December 25th and then will be back on air later that night for Punk Rock Xmess 2021 at 9pm. No standards are played, only original X-Mess songs, most with a humorous bent. We're getting a little more Southern for today's Song of the Day. “Cocktail for Christmas” is a bluegrass country tune about dealing with family during the holidays by getting completely and utterly wasted. With a delightful twang, India Ramey spells out her plan for coping, “Well Uncle Ren is drunk and talking politics again /I try to keep the peace but the room is starting to spin /But that's fine with me /I'm where I need to be /To put up with my loved ones /I'll be lit up like a Christmas tree by the time the turkey's done.” Certainly one way to handle it! Ramey is an Alabama-based lawyer-turned-musician who's released who's released four albums in the past decade, her most recent being 2020's Shallow Graves. “Cocktail for Christmas” is included on Christmas Times A' Comin' 2021, the 6th compilation of holiday songs from The Medicine Show, a Scottish booking, promotion, and broadcast company run by Rob Ellen. Watch the kitschy video for “Cocktail for Christmas” directed by Stacie Huckeba at the link below. This week I sit down with Hunter Weeks of the melodic bone crushing hardcore band LOVE IS RED. Hunter and I discuss the band, life, and his mantra of “you never get what you don't ask for.” I had the great pleasure of meeting Hunter at FURNACE FEST this year in Alabama. I was amazed watching LOVE IS RED own the stage and perform with so much exuberent passion, that Hunter's son danced around to the hardcore tones that reverberated throughout the atmosphere. LOVE IS RED has had their ups and downs, but they come back with honesty and conviction in their music. Hunter's ability to tell his story and call out those that helped along the way make this a must listen to all that know Hunter and LOVE IS RED. If you don't "Keep Moving" and keep listening the "Darkness Is Waiting" to drag you to your "Shallow Graves!"LOVE IS RED - "Darkness Is Waiting" OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, What? So This Happened!... I'm Rachel Velis Knorr and this is the Podcast HELL IS NOT THE END!!!... (Although it feels like it's just the beginning sometimes) Is anything really the end though? This Podcast is meant to explore the limitless possibilities of one's own soul. Why do people do bad things? Why are there countless happenings beyond understanding? Why when we are cautioned not to do something, do we just do it anyway? The definition of curiosity: A strong desire to know or learn something. There you have it! I will curiously explore why? Hell Is Not The End!!!...

In the first episode of season 2 (AKA episode #6) Ken welcomes his new cohost Carrie Meyer (formerly of ZTO Radio) and ZTOTV producer Aaron "Frank" England on the show to not only discuss the changes to #TimeForTalkos and the cancellation of ZTO Radio but to also talk about the concept of concentration camps through the ages and how they parallel modern "education camps" or even what ICE is up to with illegal immigrants in the USA. Ken also sits down with Poetic Descent frontman Jared Lacey to discuss the bands upcoming release "Shallow Graves" and what the guys have planned for the future. Allí encontramos, entre otros, a su hijo Jamie, Todd Snider, Sam Bush, John Carter Cash, The Travelin' McCourys, Jerry Douglas, The Band Of Heathens, Norman Blake o The Infamous Stringdusters. Escuchar audio

He slipped under the radar for years and because of that, one of his victims has been missing for 31 years, and everyone familiar with the case believes there must be more victims. Shallow Graves digs into the details of each case by talking to the original detectives and family members, and bringing you inside the case as it stands today.

Eleven women went missing over the spring and summer of 1988 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, an old fishing port known as the Whaling City, where Moby Dick, Frederick Douglass, textile mills, and heroin-dealing represent just a few of the many threads in the community’s diverse fabric. In Shallow Graves, investigative reporter Maureen Boyle tells the story of a case that has haunted New England for thirty years. The Crimes: The skeletal remains of nine of the women, aged nineteen to thirty-six, were discovered near highways around New Bedford. Some had clearly been strangled, others were so badly decomposed that police were left to guess how they had died. The Victims: All the missing women had led troubled lives of drug addiction, prostitution, and domestic violence, including Nancy Paiva, whose sister was a hard-working employee of the City of New Bedford, and Debra Greenlaw DeMello, who came from a solidly middle-class family but fell into drugs and abusive relationships. In a bizarre twist, Paiva’s clothes were found near DeMello’s body. The Investigators: Massachusetts state troopers Maryann Dill and Jose Gonsalves were the two constants in a complex cast of city, county, and state cops and prosecutors. They knew the victims, the suspects, and the drug-and-crime-riddled streets of New Bedford. They were present at the beginning of the case and they stayed to the bitter end. The Suspects: Kenneth Ponte, a New Bedford attorney and deputy sheriff with an appetite for drugs and prostitutes, landed in the investigative crosshairs from the start. He was indicted by a grand jury in the murder of one of the victims, but those charges were later dropped. Anthony DeGrazia was a loner who appeared to fit the classic serial-killer profile: horrific childhood abuse, charming, charismatic, but prone to bursts of violence. He hunted prostitutes in the city by night and served at a Catholic church by day. Which of these two was the real killer? Or was it someone else entirely? Maureen Boyle first broke the story in 1988 and stayed with it for decades. In Shallow Graves she spins a riveting narrative about the crimes, the victims, the hunt for the killers, and the search for justice, all played out against the backdrop of an increasingly impoverished community beset by drugs and crime. Drawing on more than one hundred interviews, along with police reports, first-person accounts, and field reporting both during the killings and more recently, Shallow Graves brings the reader behind the scenes of the investigation, onto the streets of the city, and into the homes of the families still hoping for answers. Karl is a Prosthetic Technician who has been creating artificial limbs since the early 90s for a countless number of amputees of all ages and backgrounds. He's built life long friendships with many of his clients often providing new limbs as people grow up, get older and require updates and improvements as time rolls on. Not the most obvious career path to take right? Karl had a keen interest in special effects and had hopes of working in that field. After a 'stroke of luck by great misfortune', where his neighbour was involved in a motorcycle accident which required him to receive prosthetic work, curiosity found Karl getting a tour around a local business in Brisbane, specialising in artificial limbs. Karl's curiosity landed him an apprenticeship. As he puts it, once he started his apprenticeship, there was no looking back. He had found what he wanted to do. So how on earth did I come across Karl? Well, when you see James Straker (see episode 82) 'liking' a Facebook page called 'I Make Prosthetics', you would be crazy to ignore it! After having a snoop around, there was no way that I could pass up an opportunity to get him on for a chat. When Karl isn't immersed in the busy world of artificial limb creation, he is playing in multiple bands, writing and performing his own solo work and also creates art which is inspired by the weird and absurd. It's amazing how Karl is able to juggle all parts of his life and he sheds a bit of light on how he structures his weeks in our chat. Perfect for you time management freaks out there. Many of us are always searching for purpose in life and specifically finding a job that brings fulfilment. Karl has landed that and has directly impacted a large number of lives of the years. Many of these often overlooked (or simply unaware) jobs don't come with a lot of public praise, however Karl gets instant and in-your-face feedback from the people he is helping. Inspiring and heart warming to put it lightly. There's lots of cool stories in this and many silly questions surrounding prosthetic limbs (I'm always going in to bat for you all!) which uncovers some really cool insights into how it all works. His multi-world existence shows that you can dip into a number of interests and never be pigeon-holed in one interest, job, etc. Do you want you love and respect the time which you have for each one. Karl has certainly has injected some extra inspiration in what I do. Support Karl by checking out his Facebook pages for his Prosthetic work, music and arts. Lots to have a squiz at.
