Girl, Let Me Tell You About JAPAN…You aren't ready for this one! In this episode, I'm spilling all the tea on my unforgettable trip to JAPAN -from riding bullet trains, to getting lost (and found) in the chaos of Shibuya Crossing, to temple hopping, mochi and matcha tasting. This trip was packed with nonstop adventures, flavor, culture, and moments that I'll never forget and I'm recapping it all! But that's not all we're also doing a LIVE Japanese snack taste test right on the show! I brought back a suitcase full of Japanese snacks (and maybe weirdest?) treats from Japan, and we're trying them for the first time, raw and unfiltered. From sweet to savory, you're getting our real reactions and real opinions. So buckle up, snack lovers and travel junkies, Let's go to Japan…_________________________________________________________ Follow us on IG: @straightupsistersthepodcast @raqcsworld @lasusie Follow us on YOUTUBE: Straight Up Sisters Podcast Email us: hello@straightupsisters.com

Saturday Morning with Jack Tame

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 5, 2022 3:54

Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. It was entirely predictable, of course. Guy Heveldt nailed it on 1News last night. Every time it rolls round, he said, we always insist we don't like the Commonwealth Games. ‘They're a relic! They're outdated! Who wants to see us whip Rwanda in the Badminton, anyway?' But then, in the midst of a tough winter, with Covid knocking us about and all sorts of economic pressures, all it takes is a few medals in a few off-Broadway sports and we're right onboard with the Commonwealth Games. They're like a chilled-out Olympics where we win more. What's not to love?! But of all the Commonwealth sports, there's one in particular I've loved watching this week. Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. It does what a great individual sport should do. First of all, it's mostly rational. It's simple. It's the kind of sport that kids could invent in the playground. You can explain the fundamental rules in about 25 seconds and if you haven't seen a match since the last Commonwealth Games, no drama! You'll pick it up in no time. Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. Secondly, it blends raw athleticism and short twitch power with endurance, and technical skills. You can't just be fast. You've gotta' be able to last. You can't just have endurance. You've gotta' be super quick. You can't just be fit, you've gotta' have incredible hand-eye coordination, creativity, and flair. Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. Finally, it's a sport that attracts players from a diverse range of countries. If you consider the top five players in the World Rankings, for each of the men's and women's games, there are players from Egypt, the U.S, England, Peru, and New Zealand. Five continents. Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. It just seems so obvious to me. And sure, maybe it's because I'm a weekend battler with secret athletic ambitions. But I reckon there's something in it for everyone. Forget surfing and E-Sports, squash needs to be at the Olympics! Think about it. A glass court only costs a couple of hundred grand so it's a lot cheaper than a velodrome. And it's so versatile. In Egypt each year, they set up courts in front of the great Pyramid of Giza. You could do that anywhere. Imagine watching Olympic squash on Copacabana Beach or next to Shibuya Crossing. What a spectacle! LISTEN ABOVE Sprint. Lunge. Sweat. For me, the highlight of these Commonwealth Games was seeing Paul Coll vanquish his demons of four years ago. The Greymouth whiz sprinted. He lunged. He sweated. He gasped. He yelled. He smeared his greasy palm down the back wall to try and get a better grip on his racquet. He trailed. He led. He dived. He sprinted. He lunged. He sweated. He endured. And ultimately, he triumphed. Knowing that unlike athletes in many other sports, the squash players won't have the opportunity to compete at an Olympics, made New Zealand's squash success that much more special. The Commonwealth Games don't matter, you reckon? No one told Paul Coll.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Was passiert? Juse Ju lebt seit sieben Jahren in Berlin.

It seems inevitable that advertisements will play a starring role in the future. Our most futuristic-looking spaces (think New York's Times Square or Tokyo's Shibuya Crossing) are those populated with enormous, LED billboard ads. In this day and age, ad agencies certainly have access to some impressive technology. But one day, even these enshrined corporate monuments will appear primitive. The Advertisement of the Future is coming. It is more effective and more convincing. Its products are more tantalizing and more addictive. There will be no escape. Science fiction has long chronicled how advertisements might evolve in an advanced technological landscape. How corporate control might come to threaten the very foundation of government. Today on the show, we explore a few of these visions, many of which have already come to pass. [This is part one of a series on science fiction and advertising.]

We made plans to go to Japan with some friends during their trip to Canada last year, and were looking forward to our visit since we left for Asia in October of 2016. Landing in Tokyo, we were expecting an Asian version of New York City but were surprised by how quiet and orderly everything seemed! We loved the city and learning about Japanese culture by appreciating the kindness of the locals, enjoying the food (we had breakfast sushi for the first time!) and taking in the variety of beautiful cherry blossoms around the city. In the first of our two episodes about our time in Japan, we talk about our stay in Tokyo at the beginning and end of our trip. We jumped in right away with a walking tour which covered the popular Omotesanto and Harajuku neighbourhoods, and had some unique experiences with Becky Gillespie, who has been on the show, showing us around. She took us to the colourful Akihabara anime district, a trendy maid cafe, and a delicious traditional Japanese meal. We had some quintessential Tokyo experiences like visiting Shibuya Crossing and enjoying conveyor belt sushi, and talk about our experience in learning about the new culture around us. We also talk about how every experience we had made us fall in love with the country even more, and how it was bittersweet leaving on the last day.   If you are interested in learning about Japanese culture and the unique experiences Tokyo has to offer, you don't want to miss this episode! Join us as we explore the world famous Shibuya District in Tokyo Japan!  It is one of the busiest and popular district out of 23 districts in Tokyo. It is packed with shopping, dining and nightclubs. Over a dozen major department store branches can be found around the area catering to all types of shoppers. Within Shibuya houses the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world called “The Scramble” or Shibuya Crossing! The culmination of countless people crossing the scramble, the neon lights and multiple big screens playing ads, and music blaring will definitely give you a "Wow, Im finally in Tokyo!" feeling, when you come here! Then, we checked out the absolute CHEAPEST Sushi we've ever had! The experience was so surreal because each bite was so fresh and so delicious! Everything was perfectly done! The price was just dirt cheap! At 108 yen or roughly $1 a plate (2 pieces of nigiri), you just can't beat that! In this segment, we also teach you how to order in a typical computerized conveyor belt sushi restaurant, because honestly it looks so complicated due to the fact that the whole concept of having no server/waiter is so foreign.   Uobei Sushi Restaurant we love you! Leave us  a review on iTunes, and we'll put your name under the credits on the next episode! It will really help us out! Thanks! Inquiries? Make music? Want to Collaborate? Or just say hi?
