A lot was revealed in the latest Xbox podcast, where Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond and Matt Booty discussed the future of its platform and its plans on embracing third-parties in regards to publishing. While he didn't name those four games, he did quell the rumors of if either Starfield or the upcoming Indiana Jones game are among those four with a no. Exclusivity is something that those who own one console or the other take stock in and somewhat pride in when heralding their respective console of choice. Well, you gotta look at it from a business perspective, and the latest Xbox Wire post lays out the reasoning in clear terms: “To ensure long-term success for both Xbox and the industry as a whole, we must continue to evolve. Today we announced that we will expand the communities we reach: we are currently in the process of bringing four Xbox games to other platforms.” So there you have it; it's to make sure #Xbox continues to thrive in the gaming market, and pretty much grow its user base outside of xbox console owners to those who either have a Nintendo Switch or PS5.

Today on IGN The Fix: Games, The Unreal Engine 5 Matrix Awakens demo was released last year to much praise and excitement. One modder has just taken it further. Rather than running through the streets as a character from the Matrix, you can swing through highly detailed city streets as Spider-Man, using a fan-made mod. Final Fantasy 16's producer Naoki Yoshida has said the game is in its final stages of development. Yoshida confirmed the progress in a pamphlet that accompanied the franchise's official clothing line, translated by Twitter user @aitaikimochi, saying "We're in the final stages of development for the numbered game in the series, Final Fantasy XVI." Microsoft has announced that May 2022's Games with Gold are Yoku's Island Express, The Inner World - The Last Wind Monk, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, and Viva Piñata: Party Animals. As revealed on Xbox Wire, the four Games with Gold will be available to anyone with Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, with Yoku's Island Express and Hydro Thunder Hurricane available starting on May 1.

Shortly after our original episode this week posted, Microsoft dropped a bombshell on the video game world by announcing that they are purchasing Activision Blizzard for a whopping $67.8 billion, more than ten times the amount they paid for Bethesda. In a post on Xbox Wire written by CEO of Xbox Gaming himself, Phil Spencer, he stated that they are “incredibly excited to have the chance to work with the amazing, talented, dedicated people across Activision Publishing, Blizzard Entertainment, Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, King, Major League Gaming, Radical Entertainment, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, Treyarch and every team across Activision Blizzard.” This means Microsoft would now own franchises like Diablo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Overwatch, Star Craft, Warcraft, Candy Crush, Pitfall, and of course Call of Duty, all of which will be added to Xbox Game Pass upon acquisition. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Ubisoft has reportedly greenlit development of a new, mainline Splinter Cell game. If the rumor proves true, it will be the first core entry in the Tom Clancy stealth series since 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. A report from VGC claims multiple "development sources" have revealed that a new Splinter Cell is in an early phase of production, with a small chance of the game being announced in 2022. The project has apparently been greenlit as part of an effort to appease frustrated Tom Clancy and Splinter Cell fans, who have been less than happy with Ubisoft's treatment of the brand over the last decade. Microsoft has announced an Xbox Anniversary Celebration to mark 20 years of Xbox. It has also made it clear that no new games will be announced during the show. Announced on the Xbox Wire blog, the Xbox Anniversary Celebration will take place on November 15, starting at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 5pm GMT. "While we won't announce any new games, this anniversary broadcast will be a special look back at 20 years of Xbox," said Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty. The Dead By Daylight character model for Pinhead has been licensed as an NFT and the game's fanbase isn't all too pleased about it. As reported by PC Gamer, fans will now be able to purchase an NFT of the Pinhead character model from Dead By Daylight. The sale of the NFT comes from the company Boss Protocol who, as part of an FAQ, states that it has "the official license to create NFTs based on Hellraiser using the in-game models that were created for Dead by Daylight." On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Square Enix has announced that Marvel's Avengers is coming to Xbox Game Pass this week. Revealed in an Xbox Wire post, Marvel's Avengers will be added to Xbox Game Pass on September 30. It will be available across PC, console, and cloud. The Xbox Game Pass version will be the complete package of all Marvel's Avengers content so far, including Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and the brand new Black Panther: War for Wakanda expansion. Microsoft has announced that the October 2021 Xbox Games with Gold are Aaero, Hover, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. These four titles represent a value of $74.96 and come with hundreds of Gamerscore points to earn. Aero (Xbox One) will be available starting October 1 through October 31 while Hover (Xbox One) will be available starting October 16 and lasting until November 15. A Donkey Kong-themed area will be added to Super Nintendo World in 2024 as part of plans to expand the Mario-themed section of Universal Studios Japan. As confirmed in a press release by Nintendo, the new area will include further interactive experiences, a variety of stalls selling merchandise and food, and its very own rollercoaster when it opens in 2024. As detailed on Xbox Wire, all Xbox Live Gold members and those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be able to play these games as soon as they are available, beginning with Warhammer: Chaosbane and Zone of the Enders HD Collection on September 1. Celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a new interactive experience presented by TIME Studios in Fortnite. March Through Time will take players to D.C. 63, a reimagined Washington, DC. Travel to the Lincoln Memorial and the United States National Mall, where Dr. King gave his iconic 17 minute speech for Civil Rights. The experience also includes museum-inspired points of interest, and cooperative mini-game quests. Completing the challenges related to Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement will unlock a D.C. 63 spray for your Locker. Raven Software has announced that it has rolled out another mass banning wave across Call of Duty: Warzone. The studio says that its latest attempt to combat cheaters in the game has resulted in the removal of over 100,000 accounts in a single day. Confirming the news on Twitter, the studio says that it has removed over 100,000 accounts, specifically targeting "repeat offenders and cheat providers at the source". This time, though, the entire site is the one that's banned, with the users in Slovakia completely unable to access it.Strangely, this site-wide ban is all due to one streamer, as he was found illegally playing online poker while on stream. There's a great bit of humor to be found in the situation, but it is also a serious issue for those Slovakians that can no longer access the site to watch their favorite streamersThe streamer in question is dDandis, a Twitch partner with around 35,000 followers. He hasn't been banned from the Twitch platform yet, but his actions did somehow result in the entirety of Slovakia being banned from the site indirectly. At the time of writing, the only internet service provider to have followed through with this so far is O2.It seems that the block was supposed to apply only to dDandis' account, but instead went out to the entire site. It's unclear whether or not other ISPs will follow suit by banning the entire site or instead limit it to just dDandis. Supposedly, the ban went into affect because of dDandis' online Poker streams, which are in violation of the Slovakian laws about promotion of gambling.Symph - The hits keep coming for Twitch. Microsoft will use cloud streaming to prevent the Xbox One from becoming obsolete as games become reliant on next-gen hardware. Outlining its future-proofing plans on the Xbox Wire blog, Microsoft said it intends to bring upcoming titles like Starfield, Redfall, and more (unveiled during its recent E3 conference) to last-generation consoles by tapping into Xbox Cloud Gaming technology. The technology is already being used to let Xbox Game Pass subscribers play console titles on mobile devices, tablets, and browsers, so utilizing it to keep older console hardware in play feels like the logical next step. "You'll see many games this holiday, including Forza Horizon 5, which will boast DirectX Raytracing on both Xbox Series X and S, and Battlefield 2042, which will run at 60fps while supporting 128 players on Xbox Series X|S. Less than a day after announcing a price increase for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions on Friday morning, Microsoft reversed course, following widespread condemnation of the decision by customers and the media throughout the day. In an update to its Xbox Wire announcement posted at 11:52 p.m. EST — under 15 hours after the article was originally published — Microsoft acknowledged that it “messed up today” and “failed to meet the expectations of players.” “We messed up today and you were right to let us know,” said Microsoft. “Connecting and playing with friends is a vital part of gaming and we failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day. As a result, we have decided not to change Xbox Live Gold pricing.” That means the prices for the current tiers — $9.99 for a one-month membership, $24.99 for three months, and $39.99 for six months — will remain in effect. (Microsoft itself does not sell 12-month subscriptions anymore, but they are available at retail for $59.99.) “New and existing members can continue to enjoy Xbox Live Gold for the same prices they pay today,” Microsoft said.
