I pray the Lord blesses you with this two-minute prayer on the Full Armor of God. Thanks be to You God, in giving Your people victory through Christ Jesus the Lord. Victory over sin, death, and the devil. You command us to be strong in the might of Your strength by putting on the full armor of God.  I put on Your Belt of Truth. Thank You, Lord, that Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path protecting me from the enemy's lies. I put on Your Breastplate of Righteousness. Thank You, Lord for Your righteousness that guards my heart. You enable me to submit to Your will for Your glory, having protected me under the shed blood of Jesus Christ. I put Your Shoes of Peace on to walk into enemy territory as Your ambassador of reconciliation, ready to share the good news of Christ with those in captivity under Satan's rule. I take up Your Shield of Faith to victoriously come against Satan's fiery darts to fear. I will stand firm, trusting in Your faithfulness, Your goodness, Your Word, and Sovereign plans. You promise to never leave us, never to abandon us (Heb 13:5)  I put on Your Helmet of Salvation that has delivered your people from oppression. You have enabled me, Lord, to discern good from evil as I put Your Word to practice.   I take Your Sword of the Spirit to fight and defend me. Your Word is active and alive - sharper than a double-edged sword exposing and defeating Satan's attempts to steal, kill, and destroy. By Faith, I have put on the full armor of God enabling me to live this day resisting the devil's temptations to sin by standing firmly submitted to You King Jesus, to whom the victory and glory belongs. Thank You God of Peace for Your promise to one day crush Satan under our feet.  Amen.

JOHN McCUTCHEON AND TOM PAXTON JOIN FORCES TO CREATE THEIR FIRST JOINT RECORDING TITLED ‘TOGETHER' John McCutcheon and Tom Paxton have been pals for decades, but it was COVID and Zoom that turned them into a songwriting team. Every Monday at 2PM they'd tell jokes, reminisce about old friends, and, of course, talk lots of sports. What happens when two of folk music's most beloved and prolific songwriters join forces?  Songs about history, the news, baseball, cowboys, America, love, the remembered, the forgotten. The arrangements are compelling, the production pristine, and the performances stunning.  From the stirring “Ukrainian Now” to the hilarious “Same Old Crap,” the immigrant story of “In America” to the heart stopping finale, “Together,” each song shines as would be expected of this partnership. John McCutcheon & Tom Paxton together have seeded the folk music landscape with hundreds of songs, sung by thousands for decades.  With the album ‘Together', they add another bunch of great new ones to the repertoire of our time.  And, given the bounty of those Monday afternoons, this is only the beginning. PLEASE WELCOME TWO FOLK LEGENDS JOHN MCCUTCHEON AND TOM PAXTON TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS … PURCHASE THE LATEST ALBUM BY Tom Paxton and John McCutcheon entitled ‘Together' The long-awaited collaboration between two of folk music's most beloved and prolific songwriters. The COVID pandemic finally brought these two old friends together via weekly Zoom cowriting sessions. This fourteen-song collection released on Appalsongs Records, barely scratches the surface of the hundred-or-so songs John & Tom came up with. With pristine production and world-class musicianship, the songs cover ground from Ukraine to Ellis Island to Shakey's Pizza to a cowboy campfire. Magi Tareke, PharmD, is a pharmacist, model, and was on season 25 of the Bachelor reality television show. She came to the U.S. from Tigray in Ethiopia and has perspectives from both countries. Dr. Tareke and I talk about her experience as a pharmacist in both the U.S. and Ethiopia, how she manages two careers, and her time on the Bachelor season 25. She opens up about her family, the ongoing conflict in Tigray and the impacts it has had on healthcare in the region. She started a nonprofit called My Shoes, Your Shoes (https://msyshoes.org) that provides shoes for children in her home region of Tigray. She is so genuine and I was impressed by her passions and all she has been able to achieve!

I have no idea, really, what it must be like to live one's life as a black man, not a white man. We all hear stories, and we see reports on the news about how young black men, especially, are subjected to unfair treatment simply because people are afraid of them. Why is that? Young whites commit just as many crimes of violence against people as do African Americans. According to the FBI, in fact, 67.5 percent of rapes in 2017 were committed by whites, compared to 28.7 percent by blacks. Aggravated assault, it was 62.1 to 33.5 percent. Nevertheless, that fear is ingrained in many white people and it's translated into how they view people of color. What must it be like to live with that? To be afraid to jog in your neighborhood for fear of being shot? To be afraid to get a simple traffic ticket? To face prejudice and discrimination in every turn of the road?In South Carolina, there is a young black man, Jaime Harrison, who brings those experiences to his uphill campaign against entrenched Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. In This Week’s Episode… You’re in for a treat as Coach Sam welcomes special guest Dr. Derek Price to the show. They exchange stories of how & where they first met, the tragedy that struck early on in Derek’s life, the story of his college & NFL days, how Derek overcame significant setbacks, how he met his soulmate, and how mentors have played an essential role in his life. We also discover the one voice he has always listened to and trusted… and how that one voice has led Derek to live an extraordinary life.  * Be the Man Challenge, an adventure that will take you through six weeks of self-discovery and introduce you to some of the conversations and belief systems inside of the Warrior’s Way. betheman.com Parable #1: Tragedy Strikes Early When Dr. Price was seven years old, life as he knew it changed drastically after the death of his father. At his young age, he stepped into the role of the man of the house and instantly becoming a father figure to his two younger brothers. Day-old bakeries, dented can sales, and tortillas & butter for breakfast were the norms. However, he had no idea they didn’t have a lot of money. During Coach Sam’s childhood, he and his family escaped from Iran to Canada, where they declared refugee status. Life changed in a moment for them. They found themselves driving around the neighborhood a couple of times a week picking out items from other people’s garbage. Most of the time, they ate cornflakes with sugar and water. QUESTION What did you experience early in your life that has helped shape who you are today?   Parable #2:  NFL At the age of nineteen, Derek felt he was at the right place at the right time. He had earned a scholarship, was excelling at football, and was presented with a very tempting offer. Following his intuition and the advice of one of his mentors, he made a decision that turned out to be a big pivotal moment in his life. In his first year as an NFL player in Detroit, with four games left, Derek was running off on a kick-off and dove into a pile of guys. What happened next would ultimately change the course of his life. “I was 22, I was living in the moment, I had a one year contract, and I had to keep it under wraps.” QUESTION Where in your world are you following & trusting your intuition and/or the advice of a trusted mentor?  Parable #3: Soulmates It was on a blind date right out of high school that Derek met the love of his life. It was on that first date that he remarked to her, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we ended up getting married?!” “I was a football player, she was a cheerleader with dreams of her own, and she chose to throw in the towel and say, “I’m on your team. Let’s do this together!” Today, they are happily married, have three daughters, and live a life that they absolutely love. QUESTION Where and when did you meet your wife? Did you know right away that she was the “one” for you? Parable #4: Three-Legged Stool In Dr. Price’s practice, he has developed his personal executive program – The Three-Legged Stool – which represents how he looks at humanity. All three of the legs must be balanced. The platform of the stool represents you, your total life experience, and your personal growth. The three legs represent the following: 1- Health & Wellness, 2- Relationships, and 3- the Pursuit of Happiness, the leg that often gets overlooked. QUESTION How do you pursue happiness? What does that really mean to you?   Parable #5: Habits Derek: You have to create habits, and habits develop in baby steps. Baby step habits done over a long period of time become a reality that ultimately shapes you. In the process of building small habits over a long period of time, you have a sustainable, life long change. When someone wants to make a change in their life, they already know their desired destination, but that just don’t know how to get to that destination from where they are today. I believe you shouldn’t talk about something unless you’ve been about something, and I take that to heart inside of my “Walk in Your Shoes” program where I mentor you, it becomes your life, and where there is ultimately a completion. QUESTION As you look across all areas of your life, what are you doing to create those baby step habits?   * Be the Man Challenge, an adventure that will take you through six weeks of self-discovery and introduce you to some of the conversations and belief systems inside of the Warrior’s Way. betheman.com Parables from the Pit:“ “What if you gave yourself permission to pursue happiness which means bringing harmony into your existing life?” —Sam Falsafi “In my discussions with thousands of patients, the reality is, I have discovered that brilliance comes from simplicity.” –Dr. Derek Price

Julie Bauke doesn't mince words when it comes to having purpose at work. Her book is Stop Peeing on Your Shoes, and in it she talks about the seven mistakes that will screw up your job search. The title sounds like just another career advice book, but as it turns out, Julie communicates so much more than just how to land a job. She and Kevin discuss how your purpose should drive your work, and how to find purpose IN your work. Julie is the Chief Career Happiness Officer… not just of her own job, but of the universe. She believes it's possible for anyone. She talks about how many people have high degrees of career happiness, a shocking number, and she talks about what career happiness is. The simplicity of it might shock you. Julie digs into each of the four criteria in the Career Happiness Formula that lead to career happiness. She also talks about the correlation between purpose and happiness, and what happens when people's focus isn't on the actuality of purpose, the metrics, the meaning. Leadership is essential – you don't leave a job; you leave a boss. Julie and Kevin discuss some of the other reasons your job might not be right for you, and how your sense of purpose might be withering where you are. Have you ever said something like 'I don't know what I want to do, but I know I don't want to do this'? You can't always jump from where you are to where you want to be. Often it happens in a series of steps toward that goal. When you're looking for purpose at work, one of the best things you can do is look for that next step when the big leap isn't available yet. Every 'yes' you've committed yourself to is also saying 'no' to something else. You must cultivate the ability to say no to things that aren't in line with your purpose and goals, so that when the opportunity you want comes along, you have enough room for a big yes. Career success and career happiness don't always correlate. Julie goes into insightful detail on the trappings of money and titles, lifestyles, and how difficult it can be to walk away from it. You have to ask yourself: is appearing happy more important than being happy? Purpose at work isn't always exactly what you think. Perhaps your work is a means to an end: it gives you the paycheck you need to pursue your purpose in your free time. That's not something to discount; it's just as valid as intertwining your purpose with your work. Julie lost her husband 9 months ago. She talks about the way she dealt with the loss. Like everyone else, she grieved. It was hard to move on. Learn how Julie did it, and what motivated her to do it. If you feel like you don't have purpose at work, or you want to clarify your purpose at work, we have a free 5-day email course you can take with daily challenges and action steps to help bring the meaning you are meant to have into your everyday.
