Want to know how REAL breakthroughs happen? Lori and I came home from two totally different trips both packed with lessons we're sharing with you. I just got back from a five day road trip with my mom and brother and Lori just wrapped her twice-a-year mastermind with some of the most brilliant women. In this episode, we break down exactly why these intentional spaces work, how to create your own (even if you're starting small), and why you have to get out of your echo chamber if you want fresh ideas and bigger results. I also share how to engineer the setting, set the right intentions, and surround yourself with people who'll push you higher. Get ready to create your own “breakthrough container,” for your business, your relationships, or your life. HIGHLIGHTS The one question I asked on my family road trip that corrected long-held assumptions. How Lori's small dream list idea became a mastermind with billion-dollar founders. How to escape your “echo chamber” to get new strategies and perspectives. The 3 part formula for creating life-changing conversations. When you intentionally create the right space with the right people, magic happens. Chris and I both just got back from trips that reminded us how powerful the right container, the right people, and the right intentions can be. For me, it was my twice-a-year mastermind with some of the most brilliant women I was once too scared to even ask to join me. For Chris, it was a five day road trip up the California coast with his mom and brother, a twist on a family tradition that sparked priceless conversations. In this episode, we share why creating intentional spaces for connection leads to breakthroughs you just can't get any other way, how to start your own version (no matter where you are), and the surprising ripple effects these gatherings have on your business, pricing, confidence, and network. This week, I welcome back Rob Henderson, the social psychologist, author, and commentator who coined the concept of luxury beliefs: ideas that confer status on the upper class while inflicting real costs on lower-income communities. Rob was last here in early 2024 discussing his memoir, Troubled: A Memoir of Foster Care, Family, and Social Class, which chronicles his journey through California's foster system to the Air Force, and onward to Yale and Cambridge. In this conversation, we explore what he's been thinking about since the book's release—particularly the so-called “mating crisis,” why many young people delay or avoid partnerships and family, and what that means for the future. We also dissect the emergence of Zohran Mamdani, the New York City mayoral hopeful who, according to Rob (and I would concur), embodies luxury beliefs in action. Finally, Rob answers questions from Substack readers. Rob will be a speaker at our Unspeakeasy Small Gathering for Big Ideas weekend, October 11-12 in New York City. Programming and ticketing info here. GUEST BIO Rob Henderson is the author of Troubled: A Memoir of Foster Care, Family, and Social Class. He grew up in foster homes in Los Angeles and in the rural town of Red Bluff, California. After enlisting in the U.S. Air Force at the age of seventeen, he subsequently attended Yale on the GI Bill and was then awarded the Gates Cambridge Scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a PhD in psychology in 2022. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, and his Substack newsletter is sent each week to more than 70 thousand subscribers. Want to hear the whole conversation? In this episode, writer and professor Sean Gaffney invites us to see story as a sacred thread woven through culture, theology, and discipleship. We talk about the shape of the meta story that undergirds all great narratives, how stories can form us spiritually, and why even blockbuster films can point us toward God. In this episode of the *Big Ideas for Smaller Government* series, host David Fran sits down with Jeremiah Mosteller, policy director for Americans for Prosperity, to explore the vast and complex Department of Defense (DoD). With a staggering $2 trillion budget and nearly three million military and civilian personnel, the DoD is one of the largest federal agencies. Together, they discuss the department's history, structure, and some surprising examples of wasteful spending, including $5 million spent on ineffective camouflage and $1,300 coffee cups used on Air Force cargo planes. Jeremiah highlights how better coordination and cutting excessive contracting could lead to significant taxpayer savings—up to $260 billion over ten years—without compromising national security. This in-depth conversation sheds light on the challenges and opportunities within the DoD, illustrating why reforming defense spending is crucial for reducing the federal deficit and making government more efficient. Listeners gain valuable insights into how strategic changes, such as reducing contractor reliance and improving procurement, could help save billions while ensuring our military remains well-equipped. Tune in to understand how thoughtful cuts in defense can contribute to a smaller, smarter government.

You're Not Stuck. You're Just Asleep. In this episode: Why I treat books like cheat codes for life (and why this one's at the top of my stack) The Mark Twain quote that calls out “willful ignorance” in all of us What makes Anthony de Mello's writing hit different—direct, a little uncomfortable, always clarifying The realization that you don't have to believe every thought you think (and why that's a game changer) 4 Big Ideas from The Way to Love “What makes you happy or unhappy is not the world and the people around you, but the thinking in your head.” Happiness isn't out there—it's in how you interpret what's already here Noticing your internal commentary is the first step to real freedom “You see persons and things not as they are but as you are…” We all see life through a cracked filter of fear, control, and expectations If you're sideways with someone, it's usually about you, not them Stop personalizing other people's behavior—own your lens “Habits must be limited to things mechanical—not to love or to sight. Who wants to be loved from habit.” Love isn't meant to run on autopilot Get in the habit of being present—with yourself, and with others Real connection comes from presence, not routine Presence builds trust, trust creates influence, and influence is how we co-create “Contemplate the walls… just observing your ideas, habits, attachments, and fears without judgment…” Most of what runs you isn't real until you feed it judgment Don't try to fix your thoughts—just watch them. Awareness melts resistance Ego and true awareness can't coexist Key Takeaways: You don't need more effort, you need more awareness Subtract the noise and you find presence (and real freedom) This book isn't about “doing”—it's about “seeing” The simplest way to change your life might just be to stop fighting and start observing Mentioned in this episode: The Way to Love by Anthony de Mello Mark Twain's wisdom on reading Connect: Instagram: @kevinkepple Facebook: @KevinKeppleCoaching

In this riveting conversation, Dr. Stephen Riggs shares his remarkable journey from conventional primary care physician to pioneering metabolic health specialist. After 30 years of traditional practice, everything changed when his wife handed him "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung. Initially skeptical, Dr. Riggs tested the low-carb approach with his patients and witnessed transformations that defied his medical training: patients reversing type 2 diabetes, coming off insulin, and experiencing substantial weight loss in mere months.Dr. Riggs reveals how he built a comprehensive metabolic health clinic within a traditional healthcare system by meticulously tracking patient outcomes and demonstrating remarkable cost savings—over $550,000 annually in medication reductions from just 220 patients. He discusses his "Low Carb Bootcamp" program that achieves a 73% diabetes reversal rate and how his team approach incorporates health coaches, nutritionists, and food addiction specialists.Perhaps most fascinating is Dr. Riggs' observation that 95% of patients with food addiction see their addiction resolved within 8-12 weeks on a ketogenic diet—without specific addiction counseling. He offers practical insights on protein requirements, implementing lifestyle changes in America's heartland, and navigating resistance from colleagues and insurance companies. This conversation offers a powerful glimpse into how evidence-based nutritional interventions are quietly revolutionizing healthcare from within the system, bringing joy back to medicine by truly healing patients rather than merely managing their decline.BIG IDEA"Nutrition went from being basically irrelevant to me—I got almost zero nutritional training, what little I did was probably wrong—and now it's the biggest tool in my toolbox by far."Stephen Riggs, MD Contact InfoPersonal Website:www.livingbyDesignKetonutrition.com Metabolic Clinic Site:MercyOne.org/LivingbyDesign Send Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. In this candid conversation with Siouxie Bishoff, founder of Scrummy Sweets, we uncover the troubling truth behind food industry practices and ingredients. After struggling with health issues including a connective tissue disease and long-term Lyme, Siouxie began creating her own blood sugar-friendly gummy bears in her kitchen. What she discovered when trying to scale her homemade recipe to commercial production was shocking - manufacturers routinely use harmful chemicals while exploiting labeling loopholes to hide them from consumers.Siouxie shares her battle to maintain product integrity against industry pressure to cut corners, revealing how "natural flavors" can contain numerous concerning additives, and how ingredients banned in Europe for health concerns remain common in American products. Despite significantly higher production costs, she refuses to compromise on quality, sourcing organic ingredients and rejecting harmful additives. This conversation exposes the hidden health impacts of seemingly innocuous treats and demonstrates why having truly clean options matters - especially for those managing conditions like diabetes or epilepsy through diet. Whether you're following a ketogenic lifestyle or simply want to understand what's really in your food, this eye-opening discussion will transform how you read ingredient labels forever.BIG IDEA"I don't want a product that's going to spike your blood sugar - I want a product that's going to help somebody in their health journey, and I know what constant elevated insulin is going to do to a human body."Siouxie Bishoff - Contact InfoWebsite: https://scrummysweets.com/Facebook: https://facebook.com/scrummysweetscoInstagram: https://instagram.com/scrummysweetscoSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message. In this episode of American Potential, host David From welcomes back Jeremiah Mosteller, Policy Director at Americans for Prosperity, for another installment in the “Big Ideas for Smaller Government” series—this time targeting the Internal Revenue Service. Jeremiah breaks down how outdated pandemic-era tax subsidies—expanded under the American Rescue Plan—are still being paid out today, even to higher-income individuals who don't need them. Reverting to the original subsidy rules for the Obamacare marketplace could save taxpayers a staggering $383 billion. The episode also exposes shocking mismanagement inside the IRS, including nearly 3,000 IRS employees who owe back taxes and over $4.7 trillion in untraceable federal spending due to failed accounting practices. Jeremiah explains how simple reforms like the LEDGER Act could bring long-overdue transparency to the Treasury and restore public trust. This is a can't-miss conversation about fiscal responsibility, common sense reforms, and how everyday Americans can play a role in cutting $2 trillion in wasteful government spending.

In this episode of American Potential, guest Austen Bannon, employment policy fellow at Americans for Prosperity, breaks down two urgent issues costing Americans time, opportunity, and tax dollars: outdated rules that make it nearly impossible to fire underperforming federal workers, and laws that prevent gig workers from getting the portable benefits they need. Austen explains how commonsense reforms—like simplifying the process for removing federal employees who aren't doing their jobs—could save taxpayers millions and restore accountability in government. He also shares how states like Utah, Tennessee, and Alabama are pioneering voluntary portable benefits programs that allow independent contractors to pool resources for health care and retirement, giving them greater freedom and security in the modern economy. Learn how modernizing these rules can empower workers, foster innovation, and ensure our government works better for everyone. Join us for a practical conversation on cutting red tape, expanding opportunity, and unleashing the potential of America's dynamic workforce.
Let's talk about revenge. Not the juicy, action-movie kind with flaming cars and dramatic showdowns, but the kind that quietly simmers in your brain long after someone cuts you off in traffic or sends a snarky email. According to Yale psychiatry lecturer and lawyer James Kimmel, revenge isn't just an emotion. It's an addiction. A hit of dopamine here, a rumination there, and suddenly we're hooked on the fantasy of payback. But what if we could quit cold turkey? In his new book, The Science of Revenge, James explains how to rewire our minds, embrace forgiveness, and break free from the cycles of grievance that keep us stuck.
