Today on the Dhru Purohit Podcast, I share a simple gratitude practice to help supercharge and accelerate your goals and dreams. At the end of the year, many of us set New Year's resolutions or intentions for how we want the next year to go. I see an interesting pattern as people start to list their goals, dreams, habits, and the things they want to give attention and energy to. But this process often involves focusing on what is lacking and the areas where they feel they are not enough. Today, I share three questions to ask ourselves before we set our goals, which I call a palette cleanse, that will help us remember that no matter how we feel we did at the end of the month or year, we did the best we could. It also allows us to remember how supported we were and what we did to help other people. Here is the practice No matter how big or small…1) What's something tough or challenging that I did this month?2) Who's someone who did something for me?3) What's something nice I did for someone else?Remembering these three things changes your vibration for what you think is possible and takes you out of negativity bias into positivity bias. In this episode, Dhru dives into (audio version / Apple Subscriber version):Why this gratitude practice is key (1:09 / 1:09)Negativity bias (10:45 / 8:10)Threats to our mental health (12:25 / 9:55)Deprogram negativity (13:10 / 11:30)Our brains as detectives (16:27 / 13:55)Gratitude as mediation on the goodness in our lives (17:51 /15:00)The Science of Gratitude (22:22 / 17:45)Deep diving into the Gratitude Protocol (27:15 / 22:57)How to implement the Gratitude Protocol (40:20 / 35:58)Also mentioned in today's episode:Episode with Dr. Tara SwartEpisode with Bruce LiptonEpisode with GottmansNewsletter on Gratitude and ResearchFor more on Dhru Purohit, be sure to follow him on Instagram @dhrupurohit, on Facebook @dhruxpurohit, on Twitter @dhrupurohit, and YouTube @dhrupurohit.This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Birch Living, and JOOV. This episode is brought to you b Rupa University, Paleovalley, HigherDOSE, and Athletic Greens. There are many areas of life that we can dial in for optimal health and longevity. Three of those areas are what we eat, our quality of sleep, and our energy production. We eat pounds of food every single day that act as information for our cells and influence our DNA expression. And increasing our energy will not only help us feel better but will also support all the systems of the body to function better. In today's episode, I talk with Dhru Purohit in my Masterclass series about the Functional Medicine approach to food, improving our sleep, and powering up our bodies.Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Athletic Greens, Joovv, and BiOptimizers. We can't avoid getting older, but we can reduce biological aging—the internal process that creates all the symptoms of the disease we've come to call aging. That means we can be one age chronologically, and another internally. I'm happy to use myself as an example of what we can do to our biology when we take out negative inputs and embrace positive ones: I'm 63 years old but my biological age is 43. We are living in a pivotal time for reframing the intersection of age and health. My passion for this topic combined with the incredible tools I've discovered led me to write my new book, Young Forever, so that I could share this life-changing information with others. Today on the podcast, I'm so excited to sit down with my friend and business partner Dhru Purohit to talk about some of the key highlights from my research on longevity. Dhru and I dive into the best way to determine your biological age so that you can begin your own journey of aging backward with measurable data. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, ButcherBox, and Mitopure. Sleep is a keystone of health. Most people know they should get more high-quality sleep, but they don't really know where to start. But understanding the way our brain and neurotransmitters work means we can hack our sleep to not just feel amazing but to level up our focus, skills, and knowledge. And it's not all about what happens at night, either—getting the right exposure to light at the right times has a profound impact on our circadian rhythms and the way our bodies transition to sleep. In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Roger Seheult, Dhru Purohit, and Dr. Andrew Huberman about why optimizing your sleep should be prioritized and how you can get better sleep. This episode is brought to you by Paleovalley and Athletic Greens.Food should be a tool for helping us feel our best. But most people don't realize what kind of impact many of the foods they eat are having on their blood sugar—and subsequently their entire body. The symptoms of blood sugar imbalances are everyday occurrences for most people. Feeling hungry even when you just ate, craving sweets, and dealing with acne, hormonal imbalances, and signs of aging, like wrinkles, are just a few of the many symptoms of blood sugar swings. When these continue to go unchecked, more severe dysfunctions can occur, like type 2 diabetes, infertility, fatty liver disease, and dementia. In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Ben Bikman, Dhru Purohit, and Dr. Ronesh Sinha about how common dietary patterns like eating simple carbs throughout the day create constant insulin spikes leading to insulin resistance, which in turn contributes to many diseases and aging. Dr. Ben Bikman is a renowned metabolic research scientist and a popular speaker on human metabolism and nutrition. Backed by years of research, Dr. Bikman's mission is to help the world appreciate the prevalence and relevance of insulin resistance. He is the author of the book Why We Get Sick, which offers a thought-provoking yet real solution to insulin resistance and reversing prediabetes, improving brain function, shedding fat, and preventing diabetes. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens. Every day, 80 million Americans are dealing with some form of autoimmune disease, including Hashimoto's. Hashimoto's is the leading cause of hypothyroidism (i.e., an underactive thyroid) in the US, and roughly 14 million people are struggling with this diagnosis. The conventional approach to treating it is based almost entirely on suppressing symptoms with drugs. However, with a Functional Medicine approach, there are so many other steps for treating the thyroid. I talk with Dr. George Papanicolaou, Dr. Elizabeth Boham, and Dhru Purohit about why thorough testing is necessary for identifying Hashimoto's and how lifestyle changes, such as removing gluten, could help to treat this condition. Dr. George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for four years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility, where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens. Osteoporosis is very common, especially as we age, but it doesn't have to be the life-threatening risk that currently it is. We've been led to believe that getting enough calcium is the key to healthy bones. In truth, your bone health is determined by your diet, gut health and nutrient absorption, physical activity levels, muscle mass, and more. I talk with Dr. Todd LePine, Dr. David Ludwig, and Dhru Purohit about the myths surrounding bone health and why it's important to take steps to strengthen your bones at every age. Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine certified practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine's focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. His areas of interest include optimal aging, bio-detoxification, functional gastrointestinal health, systemic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and the neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders. David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, is an endocrinologist and researcher at Boston Children's Hospital. He holds the rank of Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig is codirector of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center and founder of the Optimal Weight for Life program, one of the country's oldest and largest clinics for the care of overweight children. For more than 25 years, Dr. Ludwig has studied the effects of dietary composition on metabolism, body weight, and risk for chronic disease. Described as an “obesity warrior” by Time Magazine, Dr. Ludwig has fought for fundamental policy changes to improve the food environment. Thanks to continuous glucose monitors, this is knowledge we'll all be able to take advantage of in the near future. With insulin resistance playing a key role in the majority of the chronic diseases of our time, monitoring how our blood sugar responds to different foods is a huge step towards health. In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Casey Means, Jessie Inchauspé, and Dhru Purohit about the best and the worst foods to eat for glucose management, as well as tips and tricks for combining food for optimal blood sugar balance. Dr. Casey Means is a Stanford-trained physician, Chief Medical Officer and Cofounder of the metabolic health company Levels, an associate editor of the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention, and a guest lecturer at Stanford University. Jessie holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from King's College London and a master's degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University. Her work at a genetic analysis start-up in Silicon Valley made her realize that, as the key to good health, food habits beat genetics. In her first book, Glucose Revolution, Jessie shares her startling discovery about the essential role of blood sugar in every aspect of our lives, from cravings to fertility, and the surprising hacks to optimize it while still eating the foods we love.
