In this episode, we review the new game from Dreamhaven (former Blizzard devs) called Wildgate. It's a PvPvE shooter we're having a blast playing. You and 3 other players pilot a shop through The Reach with other ships in the battle with you. Find the artifact and take it through the Wildgate or destroy all the enemy ships. The moment to moment combat is fantastic and there's a lot of variety to gameplay that keeps us coming back for more.Grounded 2 is out in early access. This is Obsidian Entertainment's sequel to the survival "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" style game. Now we're in a big park with better graphics, simpler mechanics and tougher enemies...did we mention buggies? Battlefield 6 is back! The open beta happened last weekend and we played a ton of it. With this new title in the franchise, we have a return to form with the 4 classes, tighter maps, incredible destruction, fantastic sound and several new mechanics that change the game. This is the Battlefield we've been waiting for!Lastly, Brett is bummed with Tony Hawk Pro Skater's 3+4. It doesn't live up to the memories he had as a kid. Is the game bad? Or is our memory simply remembering the best parts of the games we played?Show Notes:1:06 - Housekeeping2:05 - Wildgate Review: Ship Heists in Space 31:52 - Grounded 2: Better in Every Way…Plus Buggies!54:33 - Battlefield 6: The Destructive Magic is Back 1:22:26 - Grinding Through Nostalgia: The Problem with Remakes1:41:33 - Upcoming Video Game Releases Become a part of the conversation! Ozzy Osbourne, the self-proclaimed "Prince of Darkness"—a title he certainly lived up to—co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968, a band whose groundbreaking sound shattered expectations entirely. As their frontman, Ozzy's distinctive vocals and mesmerizing stage antics propelled them to superstardom throughout the 1970s. Imagine the landscape of music without anthems like "Paranoid" or "Iron Man"; their creation rests squarely on the shoulders of these sonic pioneers!Ozzy's contributions to Black Sabbath are the stuff of legend. He became the iconic face and unmistakable voice behind their initial eight albums, a discography that defined an entire genre. Beginning with their eponymous debut in 1970 and culminating in "Never Say Die!" in 1978, each record unleashed the band's brooding, monumental sound and Ozzy's, shall we say, characteristically eccentric vocal delivery. "Paranoid" and "Master of Reality" stand as undisputed masterpieces, essential listening for any self-respecting metal aficionado.Regrettably, the perils of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle exacted their price. In 1979, Ozzy's struggles with substance use culminated in his departure from Black Sabbath. However, this setback proved a launchpad, catapulting him toward an immensely successful solo career and reaffirming that the "Prince of Darkness" was far from dethroned!Ozzy Osbourne's 1980s solo endeavor proved extraordinary. With the collaborative genius of Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley, he unleashed Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Diary of a Madman (1981) upon the masses. These albums did not simply resonate; they instigated a seismic shift within the hard rock sphere, plotting a trajectory for a decade brimming with unparalleled musical audacity.Naturally, the Ozzy experience was never without its share of uproar. His on and off-stage actions fueled constant public conversation, even sparking disapproval from the Christian right, who claimed promotion of Satanic ideals. Yet, every bit of attention helped, it seemed. Amidst the controversy, Ozzy released thirteen solo studio albums, with the initial seven reaching multi-platinum certification in the United States; an achievement that reflects remarkable sales. The "Back to the Beginning" farewell concert in Birmingham on July 5, 2025, was an emotional tidal wave for Ozzy Osbourne and his fans. He announced his retirement, citing health concerns, and the performance felt like a joyous celebration of his legendary career, rather than a somber farewell. That "Back to the Beginning" aptly encapsulated his swan song resonated deeply, echoing his formative years in Birmingham. The news of his death a mere 17 days later, on July 22, reverberated like a thunderclap. While plans for future recordings existed, fate intervened. It's devastating that such a prodigious talent was cut short so abruptly, yet what a legacy he forged!Ozzy's seismic impact on music is undeniable, and his innovative spirit will perpetually galvanize future musicians. Though his earthly performance has concluded, his music endures. I'm just so grateful I got to witness such genius.Flamekeeper Podcast Network: http://www.youtube.com@flamekeeperpnAll Rights Reserved. In this Geek Freaks episode, we celebrate Spiderman Day by discussing the live-action Spider-Man films, Tom Holland's new suit, and the ongoing shoot in Glasgow. The conversation then shifts to the future of the Hulk storyline in the MCU, speculation on God of War and Wolfenstein TV adaptations, and the potential for a Star Trek “Year One” series. We dive into the legality of fan art after recent Pokémon TCG drama, and our hosts share their picks for the best movies, games, comics, and TV shows so far in 2025. Tune in for an engaging discussion that blends nostalgia with fresh perspectives, complete with listener recommendations and a sneak preview of what's coming next. Timestamped Topics Time Topic 00:00:00–00:00:21 Introduction: Celebrating Spiderman Day and upcoming topics 00:01:37–00:02:44 Live-action Spider-Man rankings; Tobey Maguire vs. Tom Holland vs. Andrew Garfield 00:04:45–00:07:31 Behind the scenes of Spider-Man filming: New suit, Tony Stark tech, and potential nostalgic callbacks 00:07:31–00:12:17 Hulk's role in the upcoming Spider-Man film and possible MCU storylines 00:15:17–00:19:09 Amazon's God of War adaptation: Norse mythology focus and game-to-TV transition 00:21:37–00:22:23 Wolfenstein TV series speculation and Amazon's track record after Fallout 00:23:32–00:31:07 Star Trek “Year One” concept and the future of Strange New Worlds 00:31:07–00:39:28 Mid-show break: Listener poll results, favorite live-action Spidey, and comic conventions 00:41:00–00:51:20 Best of 2025 so far: Movies, animated movies, video games, and comics 00:55:02–01:04:47 Legality of fan art: Pokémon TCG controversy and a deeper discussion on copyright 01:04:47–01:13:42 Recommendations: Hello Kitty's “My Melody and Kuromi” series and the wholesome Dropout show “Game Changer” 01:13:42–end Wrap up: Thanking listeners, inviting questions, and previewing the next episode   Key Takeaways Live-Action Spider-Man Debate: Tobey Maguire remains a nostalgic favorite, but the hosts note that Tom Holland's portrayal captures the youthful energy of the comics. Andrew Garfield's films still deserve a watch for a fresh perspective. Spider-Man Day Preview: Filming for the new movie is underway in Glasgow and Pinewood Studios. The new suit seen in set photos may just be an early version; expect a Stark Tech upgrade later on. Hulk in the MCU: The show explores theories about bringing a “classic Hulk” back. If Bruce Banner loses control, it could set up a “Hulk vs. Punisher” scenario in the next Spider-Man film. God of War Adaptation: Amazon's series is confirmed to draw on the 2018 Norse storyline. The hosts hope to see Kratos' Greek mythology past referenced through flashbacks and deeper character development. Wolfenstein & Fallout Success: Wolfenstein could take a campy, bullet-heavy approach similar to Amazon's Fallout. The show creators hope Amazon will continue its good run of game adaptations. Star Trek Year One: A “year one” approach could explore how the Enterprise crew originally formed. The hosts support revisiting nostalgia without rehashing the original 1960s series, as long as the focus remains on character building. Fan Art and Copyright: After a Pokémon TCG card was accused of copying fan art, the discussion highlights how fan art technically violates copyright and can't be claimed if used without permission. Nintendo and Disney have strict policies, while Blizzard and Riot Games encourage fan creations. Best of 2025 (so far): The hosts rave about “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Sinners” as standout films, with special love for “K-Pop Demon Hunters” and “Leo.” Games like “Death Stranding 2” and “Oblivion Remastered” shine, and comics such as “Sandman,” “Thing,” and “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” capture the imagination. Wholesome Recommendations: From the adorable stop-motion Netflix series “My Melody & Kuromi” to the heartwarming “Game Changer” episode awarding $100,000, the show encourages viewers to find comfort in small joys. Quotes “It's hard not to pick Tobey Maguire, but Tom Holland plays the outnumbered kid that's right off the page.” – Frank “I always wanted a smart Hulk—but not a Hulk who refuses to smash.” – Squeaks “Amazon's adaptations are killing it. Between Fallout and what's in store for God of War, I think fans have a lot to look forward to.” – Frank “If we see Hulk, Punisher, and Spider-Man all fighting in the same film, something has to be out of control.” – Squeaks “Fandoms are passionate, but remember that fan art is technically derivative. It falls into a grey area unless the rights holder chooses to pursue it.” – Frank Call to Action Love what you hear? Join me for an insightful and timely conversation with historian Timothy Kneeland about his book Declaring Disaster: Buffalo's Blizzard of '77 and the Creation of FEMA (Syracuse University Press, 2021). This book masterfully bridges the gap between academic research and real-world policy implications. Hear from the author himself as he reflects on the historical roots of disaster policy, the political forces that shape emergency response, and the enduring implications for governance today. Timothy W. Kneeland is a Professor and Director of the Center for Public History at Nazareth University. He writes on American politics and disaster policy, American science, and psychiatry. ABOUT THE BOOK: On Friday, January 28, 1977, it began to snow in Buffalo. The second largest city in New York State, located directly in line with the Great Lakes' snowbelt, was no stranger to this kind of winter weather. With their city averaging ninety-four inches of snow per year, the citizens of Buffalo knew how to survive a snowstorm. But the blizzard that engulfed the city for the next four days was about to make history. Between the subzero wind chill and whiteout conditions, hundreds of people were trapped when the snow began to fall. Twenty- to thirty-foot-high snow drifts isolated residents in their offices and homes, and even in their cars on the highway. With a dependency on rubber-tire vehicles, which lost all traction in the heavily blanketed urban streets, they were cut off from food, fuel, and even electricity. This one unexpected snow disaster stranded tens of thousands of people, froze public utilities and transportation, and cost Buffalo hundreds of millions of dollars in economic losses and property damages. The destruction wrought by this snowstorm, like the destruction brought on by other natural disasters, was from a combination of weather-related hazards and the public policies meant to mitigate them. Buffalo's 1977 blizzard, the first snowstorm to be declared a disaster in US history, came after a century of automobility, suburbanization, and snow removal guidelines like the bare-pavement policy. Kneeland offers a compelling examination of whether the 1977 storm was an anomaly or the inevitable outcome of years of city planning. From the local to the state and federal levels, Kneeland discusses governmental response and disaster relief, showing how this regional event had national implications for environmental policy and how its effects have resounded through the complexities of disaster politics long after the snow fell. Ozzy no muere. Ozzy trasciende. Only Three Lads: Ozzy Osbourne Tribute

And now for something completely different...in this special episode, we pay tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne and each pick five of our favorite songs from the rock legend's career. So you may ask yourself, why are we doing an Ozzy episode on our classic alternative music podcast? We certainly don't want to be "those guys" who churn out opportunistic memorial episodes - but, quite simply, Uncle Gregg suggested "hey, we should do an Ozzy tribute" and Brett said "OK, let's do it." That's the way decisions are made here at O3L Headquarters...and six hours later, the episode is out to the world.  John "Ozzy" Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, a little more than two weeks after his final performance at the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, a massive show that featured a who's who of heavy metal musicians, culminating in a five song Ozzy solo set and a four song finale from Black Sabbath.  Ozzy, of course, rose to prominence as the lead singer of Birmingham rock band Black Sabbath from the time of their formation in 1969 until his dismissal in 1979. Considered one of (if not THE) most influential bands in the evolution of heavy metal, Sabbath also consisted of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, releasing a string of classic albums like Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), Vol. 4 (1972), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973), Sabotage (1975), Technical Ectasy (1976), Never Say Die (1978) before Ozzy launched a fruitful solo career. Solo records include 1980's Blizzard of Ozz, 1981's Diary of a Madman, 1983's Bark at the Moon, and 1991's No More Tears, intertwined with occasional Black Sabbath reunions, most notably their 2013 album 13. Osbourne remained at the forefront of pop culture through his popular Ozzfest tours and his unlikely stint as a lovable TV Dad on the reality show The Osbournes. Learn more about your ad choices. Man Dead In Front of Powerful Family Home After “Blizzard Party” -Everyone Inside Has Motive To Kill

It's a blizzard party. A group of friends at a house, getting drunk, before they all drive back home. By 2AM, the snow is coming down hard and the party goers have left for their own homes. Only the residents of 34 Fairview Road remain.  At least that's what they say. Within just a few hours, the frozen body of John O'Keefe is found outside on their lawn. Laying in the snow.  The best way to figure out what happened to John O'Keefe is to talk to every single person inside the house for the ‘blizzard party'. But ‘hos' can authorities have a proper investigation if all of them are evasive? Nobody wants to answer any of the questions directly and their stories aren't adding up. Most importantly, what about the allegations that every single person inside of the house that evening may have a motive to harm John? Are they telling the truth? Could it really just've been John's ‘jealous' girlfriend Karen? Did she really run him over in a fit of rage like all the party goers say? The authorities seem to think so. They take the residents of 34 Fairview and the partygoers at their word despite the mountains of evidence that point in a completely different direction. So the real questions are: Is Karen Read actually guilty or is it just because the residents of 34 Fairview are the most well-connected and powerful family in Canton?   Full show notes at rottenmangopodcast.com
