Alex is back for some last minute, day of, midterm election coverage. He discusses the likelyhood that Trump announces his candidacy soon, why these elections could be the crossing of the rubicon moment, and why more controversies could muddy the waters in key midterm races. Alex thinks that a red ripple is more possible than a red wave; however, he also thinks that anything is possible. He gives a few more predictions and takes on the midterms. Now it is time to watch and see. Will the election deniers get democratically elected to deny more elections?

The Love and Passion Of Independent Filmmaking. My producing partner, Dr. Elle E. Wallace and I break down how we both got involved with the autobiography, “A Whisper From Within” and our process of turning it into a feature film. Having experience with many aspects of production, Elle also speaks about her new short film dealing with same-sex relationship domestic violence, her time as a casting director on the film, “Marley and Me,” and her approach to working with actors. @dr.ellewallace @TomBenteyMedia www.TomBenteyMediaPodcast.com https://youtu.be/1Z8JruNMw84 https://www.amazon.com/Whisper-Within-My-Life-Terms/dp/1512704873/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3SYGYQNKYK0JL&keywords=a+whisper+from+within+theresa&qid=1659718287&sprefix=a+whisper+from+within+theresa%2Caps%2C48&sr=8-1 https://youtu.be/WpEvQIxLN6g 00:00- 01:22- Intro- Dr. of Divinity, Elle E. The importance and impact of telling the story of a disabled person. 02:55- 05:22-Theresa reached out to me as well, after seeing my film, “At the Jersey Shore,” and wanted me to tell her story, “A Whisper From Within” into a film. And striving to turn it into a feature film. Different ways of producing the films. Independent Vs. Studio. Pros/Cons of each. 09:59- 14:39-Materials needed for Pitching to investors; script, pitch and pitch video. Our reference film for this project is “Blue Miracle.” Trying to find independent investors. Film is not as risky as an investment as people make it out to be. Being “called” to be a part of a project. 23:40-29:15- Elle's experience as a casting director and as an actor. Understanding both sides of the production and creative process. Elle's would give prepared actors a real opportunity to showcase the role because she has compassion for actors. Different skill set from acting and auditioning.

In Cinemas, this week, Tosin watches the only thing he can find The Many Saints of Newark, a prequel to The Sopranos, a TV show he has never watched. Sharon watches Herself, and Shaun is mightily surprised by 12 Mighty Orphans, it appears he might be the only one in the country who found it. We also have a sneak preview of Dune from Alex Arbuthnot. At home, Sharon has an inspirational and entirely predictable evening with her mum watching Blue Miracle, Shaun adjudges Karen Gillan's action chops in Gunpowder Milkshake (Tosin joins him) and Tosin gets existential with The Kid Detective. Is Netflix killing cinemas? Each week we weigh up what we've seen in cinemas with what we've watched online at home and figure out which provided the best time. At least, we did before COVID jumped in and declared Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney + and friends the winner. Vulnerable. Brave. Inspiring. Those are just a few words of many I could use to describe Raquel McCloud. Beginning with the day she was born, this woman was not dealt an easy hand of cards. But, just like the story line from so many of her favorite books and movies, she was able to rise above her circumstances and create a beautiful life out of the hard and the messy. And not only that, but she is using the things she has been through and many of the things she is still dealing with to help inspire and teach and encourage others. I'm so thankful that she is willing to share the things she is struggling with and working on so that we can all benefit from it! Last week, Raquel came on the show and shared Part 1 of her Lifetime Original story. That story included some childhood trauma and abuse, experiences with adoption and emancipation, and a romance that began in none other than Taco Bell. Today, we're continuing that story and hearing about what her family dynamic looks like now. She's also sharing on the stereotypes of birth moms, rights that birth moms should have, and how we can all be better advocates for such an underprivileged group of women. Adoption and birth stories aren't the only thing Raquel likes to share about, though. She also gets super vulnerable online sharing about mental health struggles, body positivity and self love, parenting, marriage, and many other hard but beautiful things that we can all relate to! Over the course of her online growth, Raquel has had to endure a lot of critics. But as she would tell you, it's worth it to reach those who she knows can relate to her struggles. Those who have felt isolated and alone for so long and didn't know there was anyone else out there who understood how they felt. Former McCallie teacher Darren Moorman is receiving worldwide acclaim for the latest movie he produced, Blue Miracle, starring Dennis Quaid, and now streaming on Netflix. Mr. Moorman, who taught Bible in the early 1990s under the guidance of John Strang, left the Ridge in the late 90s for Hollywood, where he gained fame as an actor before becoming a successful movie producer, concentrating on faith-based topics. In June, Mr. Moorman visited McCallie and hammed it up with his old friend John Marcellis '85, Director of Weekend Activities, talking about their time on campus and Mr. Moorman's early ventures (at times with Mr. Marcellis in tow) into acting and producing, and about Mr. Moorman's latest accomplishments, including the highly acclaimed Blue Miracle movie. The two were joined by Steve Hearn '87, Vice President of Advancement.
One of the biggest stereotypes in Hollywood is the "doofus dad." But every now and then, a movie or TV show challenges that stereotype. This week, the Plugged In team examines two such movies – "Blue Miracle" and "12 Mighty Orphans" – both of which focus on men who act as surrogate dads to orphans in need. They also dive into the movie, offering up some tidbits for super fans. While helping your family navigate the wild world of media, you'll be encouraged to think about how your entertainment choices can affect you as an adult, too.

Ian and David interview writer/director Julio Quintana, whose latest film, Blue Miracle, recently debuted on Netflix! The movie is based on the inspiring true story of Omar Venegas (Jimmy Gonzalez), the manager of a Mexican boys' home who reluctantly enters an international fishing competition to save his kids from returning to the streets. "Papa" Omar teams up with a surly boat captain (Dennis Quaid) to help him and his young crew navigate choppy waters--both natural and ethical. In this surprisingly candid conversation, Quintana opens up about rebounding from the financial disappointment of his debut feature, The Vessel; the balancing act of rewriting a script that was adapted from true events; and the delights and challenges of working with new actors and veterans, such as Dennis Quaid. He also talks about cutting his teeth on The Tree of Life under the guidance of Terrence Malick, and what lessons he brought into his own career as a visual storyteller.Oh, yeah, he also talks about why everything in his movie is blue!Show Links:Watch the Blue Miracle trailer.Watch the trailer for Quintana's previous film, The Vessel.Follow David's film criticism at Keeping It Reel.Subscribe to, like, and comment on the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel!

Well here we are. The "Unofficial Start of Summer" and the entertainment industry has cooked up a virtual feast for your holiday weekend. First there's "Cruella." Disney's live-action origin story of the villain from "101 Dalmations" with Emma Stone in the title role along with Emma Thompson. It's got dogs, it's got scenery, it's got a 70s soundtrack, but is it worth traveling to a theater to see on a busy weekend? We'll let you know. Then there's the "Friends" reunion show on HBO Max. That's the one where the once incredibly cute cast is lured from their mansions (and maybe rehab) to talk about their golden days on their once must-see sitcom. There are celebrity guests, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and James Corden on hand to ask softball questions. Neil, a big "Friends" fan, will tell you all about it. And it wouldn't be a weekend without a zombie movie, so we'll tell you about Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead" now streaming on Netflix." It takes place in Las Vegas. Think "Ocean's 11" but with zombies. Bill McCuddy will fill you in on the Netflix series "Halston" starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic fashion designer. And Bill Bregoli will try to warn you off watching the family film "Blue Miracle" starring Dennis Quaid." The truth is, the weather is always crummy on Memorial Day weekend, so why not stay indoors and listen in!
