Embark on a profound exploration of conversations that transcend boundaries, replacing fleeting interactions with enduring connections. Callye rounds out this conversation by recommending some of his favorite reads. Where most people are lured in by the dopamine-inducing reads like “Extreme Ownership”, Callye finds that those types of books reiterate the same message over and over. He's found that we learn more from stories than straight information. He loves the technical brilliance of autobiographies, where the reader is guided toward intellectual enrichment. Anchored by a keen appreciation for stories, Callye is excited to delve into the world of Rockefeller's monumental biography, “Titan”. He also highly recommends books such as Eliyahu M. Goldratt's groundbreaking "The Goal," and the illuminating insights of "The Theory of Constraints." What You'll Learn: Why too much freedom in the workplace is actually a bad thing? What employee incentives actually motivate people. The difference between a goal and a target. And much more! Welcome to the Successful Life Podcast. I am your host, Corey Berrier. And today, folks, we're gonna be talking about how to build relationships, partnerships, collaborations, and. We're gonna top it off with a quick story about Alcoholics Anonymous and my recent discoveries. [00:00:16] So this is gonna be fascinating. I'm gonna tell you right now, it's gonna be very, a little bit different than what we're usually talking about. So look, when you think about sales, Most people have a negative connotation with that. Most people have most people think that salespeople are slimeballs, right? [00:00:37] A lot of people think, people in-home services are slimeballs. This is really why I, this is why I love working with the trades because y'all get, y'all get things on just like I do. And so I really understand. I just understand that mindset. That's all I guess I'm trying to say. Anyhow, the point is if you want to grow your business you're gonna want to, you're gonna want to collaborate with other businesses, You're gonna wanna collaborate with other people in your space. Here's an example. I. Partnership agreements with a brand, with branding companies, with Mark marketing companies with the operation. [00:01:12] I have an operations team. So my point is this, I have everything that my customer needs whenever they work with me. So I make it super convenient to work with me because look, at the end of the day, it's like going to you. I don't know. Sam's Club, right? You have everything in one place. I don't do all these things, but I have relationships, partnerships, and or collaborations with people that can do all of these things, right? [00:01:41] There's literally nothing you can come to me and ask me about in-home services that I don't have an option for you and I'm getting ready to lock in lock in a deal with a financing company. Because look, a lot of companies, you're, you, maybe your company who knows. There are a lot of home services out there, service businesses that don't, they don't utilize financing. [00:02:03] And it's bizarre to me because there are a lot of amazing options out there. And I'm not gonna tell you who the company is because I haven't nailed it down yet. But the point is, you wanna make yourself as valuable as possible. And the way I've done that is I've built solid relationships. [00:02:26] With solid people that I believe in, people that I would go to bat for people that would go to bat for me. [00:02:32] And so that's what I think, in my opinion, is a great partnership. Look, at the end of the day, there's one thing that I want out of a partnership, and there's one thing that you want out of a partnership, which is a fair deal, right? If I give you x. Whenever you get the next client, you're gonna give me X or whatever it is, right? [00:02:56] Is there or there, there could be a percentage of kickback, or it could just be that it's a brand recognition partnership. There are a bunch of different ways that you can look at this, right? But you do wanna think about how can you make yourself more valuable If you're a business owner, you probably are listening to the show. [00:03:18] You wanna think about, if you're an HVAC company and you just do HVAC, you need to have a plumbing partner. I don't mean you need to go into business with a plumber. I'm saying you need to build a relationship with a plumber that you love in your, that's local. So whenever your customers have a problem, you have a solution. [00:03:39] You need to have a window guy. You need to have all of all anything that the house needs. You should have somebody in your back pocket. That can solve that problem for the customer, right? Think about this. It makes you invaluable, truthfully, because, look, I don't know anybody else. [00:03:56] I know one other person that does this and he, he's the guy that taught me to do this call Keen, one of my best friends in the whole world, this guy. But he's a master of this and he teaches people how to do this. You should check him out. His name, Yeah, I'll have to spell it for you, is Callye Keen. [00:04:10] Pretty certain. There are not too many Callye, so look him up. He runs one of the largest product manufacturing businesses in the world, so you. He might know a thing or two about collaborations, cuz guess what? He didn't get to whatever his company's worth at this point, without working with people. [00:04:28] In fact, I'll just tell you that's exactly how he built this business, right? Relationships. This is how any good business is built. It's built on relationships, It's built on, trust primarily. And you can't have a good relationship if you don't have trust. I want to dive into,[00:04:52] [00:04:53] My little excursion to Roof Con, started out interesting, of course. So I left the day early and I didn't even realize that I was looking at, Dude, I messed the dates up on this. I'm just gonna tell you that right now. I messed them up all the way around. [00:05:08] Everywhere I put the dates in, I messed them up. I put 'em all, all in on the fifth and sixth and it completely screwed me up cause it's a sixth, seventh, and eighth. So I got there early, halfway down there. I realized I didn't have a hotel room because I didn't book it for that day. So that worked out perfectly fine. [00:05:22] Worked out great. And but on the way down there I've had this I've been like, I've had this weird itch, like it'll itch in my, like in my hair. It'll itch on my leg. It'll itch on my arm. And I'm like, I thought, to be honest, I smoked cigars. Y'all do this? I thought, honestly, I thought it was these freaking bugs called no cms. [00:05:44] And you're wrong, If you've never heard of that, you probably think I'm an idiot saying that. Cause that's exactly what I thought when I first heard it. But look it up. No cms. I think that's, I think I'm saying it, but either, Anyway, it's like a nat, right? And so essentially, The way it was explained to, I thought I had I was almost, I'll be honest I was partially convinced that I had lights or fleas. [00:06:06] I didn't know what it was and I couldn't see whatever it was. And it was driving me nuts. And I'll be honest, it was a little bit embarrassing, so it wasn't like I could tell anybody about it. I could tell you now about it. It was not any of those things. So it's some kind of sun allergy. [00:06:24] That my doc has said, he's I've seen this seven or eight times this year. And he said, Honestly, Corey, he said, Up until you walked in here, I thought it had to do with the vaccine, to be honest with you. But now I know it, that has nothing to do with the vaccine. It's a weird little thing. And so he, I, anyway, so I get to Florida and it's getting worse and worse, right? [00:06:46] So I'm leaving North Carolina, which is fairly cool. At this time of year down to Florida, which is not cool. And so it was odd, and I didn't even realize this until I got back, but as I got down there, it got worse and worse. And so it got so bad that I had to go to urgent care and figure out literally, I'm like, this is it's driving me nuts. [00:07:10] I, it is the most bizarre thing I think I've ever felt. Like it's just weird. And it [00:07:18] feels like little bugs actually crawled on you. And so how he explained it was, it's some kind of adverse reaction, some kind of allergy to the sun that causes this weird little feeling. And he was like, Yeah, just some allergy. [00:07:34] So just take Zyrtec. That should tamp it down. But anyway, I went to urgent care. Sorry, I'm jumping all over. Went to urgent care. They gave me some medicine and. I made it through roof con, itching, and scratching. Not as bad as I was before. Thank God the guy gave me some medicine. But Roof con was dope. [00:07:51] It was, and I just gotta highlight Hunter for a quick second. I watched Hunter, I'm fascinated by people that do big things, right? Because I'm doing big things and I wanna do bigger and I'm fascinated when I get to be in the presence of somebody that's doing big. So I don't run up and talk and stuff. [00:08:11] I, I watch, right? I'm a silent observer, so to speak. It's one of the best skills that I have in as a salesperson, right? Or as a coach because I know how to listen and I know how to pick up on things, and I know how to execute the conversation when I need to. So I watched Hunter for three days. This dude never he was never amped. [00:08:36] He was cool, calm, and collected. The entire time I saw him. Every single time I saw him, he was just chilling. It was wild. But if that would've been me, I would've been running around that place at 9,000 miles an hour. So it just goes to show you the emotional intelligence Hunter Ballew. It's crazy to me now, who knows what's going on at the side of his head? [00:09:05] He's got a kid, like a really small kid, he just adopted like a baby and this massive event. So the takeaway from that is this dude knows how to run a business, obviously, and he knows how to hire great people. Robert Poseys, is one of 'em, right? He's got a bunch of great people. Don't get me wrong, and I'm not going to list everybody off. [00:09:22] Robert's just one of my tight boys. I like Robert. He's a good guy. He was on my podcast. You should go listen to that. He's got a hell of a story. So Ruth Con was, it was great. The Rhino guys were there. Got to see Michael Vanitas. I got to see Jeff Bowab. Got to see I'm drawing a blank. Tim Tebow. [00:09:43] [00:09:44] Anyhow, I guess at this point you saw who was important for me to see. I guess so anyhow, it was good. It was great. It was really good it was a tremendous event, and I would encourage anybody to go check it out. You can go check it out@roofcon.com. I'm sure they're selling the tickets for next year. [00:10:01] In fact, I know they are. So long story short, with this whole. Flea thing, by the way. I did go get lice stuff and I did put it in my hair thinking maybe that was life and it didn't work. I was partially relieved, but partially not. So I'm Dr., So I'm, so the last night at Roof Con, I had a bunch of amazing conversations I, but I want, I want, and I can't go over all of them because that would take me all day, but I need to point. [00:10:33] One in particular. I'm gonna do my best not to f this name up. Eric Oberembt, I believe is how you say his name if I said that right? I think I just won a hundred points or something. I don't ever get anybody's name right, but I think that's right. I spent about Jesus, I don't know, three hours. [00:10:50] Probably close to three hours talking to Eric, and it was cool because I needed that conversation. And ironically, this is gonna lead me to my next topic, ironically, on the way down there I, to give you a back story, I've been sober for over 13 years. I started out in aa. I hadn't been to AA in six years. [00:11:10] That's where we're at. And so I'm driving down to Florida and I'm thinking about Eric because he does roofers in recovery. Now I don't know that much about roofers in recovery, but I could figure out what that is, right? It's not that hard to figure out, and it got me thinking [00:11:26] and I got to think for about eight hours and so when I talked to Eric, Now I didn't know how that conversation was gonna go cuz I have interesting feelings about AA and sobriety and language that we use around it. And but I don't hold anything back. I just I'm just gonna tell you how I feel can take it or leave it. [00:11:45] But what I realized, and this is probably the most impactful thing that's happened to me in about six years, [00:11:55] so I told Eric my feelings on saying, I am, I'm alcoholic, and I don't agree with. Because I don't feel like I'm an alcoholic, cuz I haven't drunk in over 13 years. And it makes me feel uncomfortable [00:12:10] saying that I'm an alcoholic, but that's not the point. And Eric and I are gonna get into this. He's gonna come to my show next week and we're gonna talk about this. [00:12:19] And it is, it's gonna be great. I love having, I like having these conversations, but I don't have enough is the point. I don't talk to enough people that are struggling with alcohol or drugs. Now, my best, one of my best friends, Nick Jones, who all, who, the reason that I ever got sober to begin with this guy, he called me about, I don't know, two months ago, and he said, Hey, I need you to pick up my buddy. [00:12:45] He smokes crack. I need you to pick him up at the bus station. Take him to the, I need you to get him in somewhere around you. He knows that I'll make it happen. And the guy was coming from Atlanta, and so I picked him up. [00:12:54] It was four 30 in the morning or something, and he's, he's where he's cracked out. And just to give you some backstory, I've not smoked crack, so I don't really, I don't know about crackheads, right? I know what I see on, television or hear stories, but I've not really been around crackheads, like true crackheads. [00:13:14] And I'm not saying that in a derogatory way. The guy smokes crack. Let me say it like that. And so I went and picked this guy up. He was a train wreck, of course, just like I was when I came in and. And that guy's still sober today. If you would've asked me to place a bet whether that guy was gonna stay sober or not, I would've said, I would've bet every dime of money that he wouldn't have stayed sober. [00:13:41] That's maybe not true. I have more hope than that, but he tried to get me to drop him off and buy crack four different times within a two-hour time spend. That's why I'm saying we're lucky we got there. But we did. We got him in and, or I got him in. [00:13:56] And so it didn't, so my buddy Nick called me and said, Hey, this guy, I'm not gonna tell you his name, doesn't matter who it is. He said he is still sober. And the combination of Nick telling me that, the combination of Eric, my conversation with Eric, here's what I. Now, if you understand Alcoholics Anonymous or if you know anything about Alcoholics Anonymous, then you know the word dry drunk. [00:14:21] So uncomfortable for me to even talk about, to be honest with you. But I want to talk, I want to thank Eric really for that, for telling me. So, so here's the story I explained to Eric. I hadn't been to AA because I am; I just explained all [00:14:36] that he said, Cory. He said, and he said this in the most genuine way, Please. [00:14:40] Corey, like it's not about you. [00:14:48] It's about helping another alcoholic. AA is the vehicle for you to help others. , and it doesn't matter what you think; you believe in the program. And I'm not giving you verbatim, but this is essentially the conversation. And, of course, I do believe in the program. I just don't believe in the, I'm part. [00:15:08] That's the part that, that really trips me up hard, and I'm not going to say it I'm just not going to say those three words. Because I'm not an alcoholic now, I'm a recovering alcoholic, but I haven't had a drink in 13 years. I may not be recovered, but damn, I got a pretty good track record. [00:15:29] And, but I've been a dry drunk for the last six years. And let me explain what that means. That means I haven't had a drink, nor have I had the desire to have a drink, but I., but I also haven't been helping other alcoholics. [00:15:49] I help other people all the time. I always help people, but I've been helping the wrong people. I. I know how to get through this thing, and this is the hardest thing I've ever gone through in my life was stopping drinking [00:16:12] and the thought of having to go through that again [00:16:18] it breaks my heart. And damn. Double a little emotional about that. [00:16:22] My ego, I guess they could call it my ego got in the way because I was so stuck on my dumb ass thought about I, I'm not going back to AA because I'm not saying I'm an alcoholic. How stupid is that? It makes zero sense. Truthfully. It makes no sense. Sometimes it takes what it takes. [00:16:44] And so I've been scraping my knees back and forth; we've had a lot of crap going on in the last six years, right? And I sit here, and I think about all these things [00:17:00] that have gone on and.[00:17:02] [00:17:04] And it just, [00:17:09] it makes me realize that [00:17:15] I need to give back to the people that gave to me. I, there are people that are struggling out there that I'm not even attempting to touch. That makes me feel awful, right? It makes me feel terrible. And understand Eric wasn't saying this to make me feel bad. He was just asking great questions. And those great questions led to me discovering I don't have to, I don't have to say I'm an alcoholic. [00:17:44] And so Eric said, Look, dude, I went through a very, I won't go into his story because we're gonna get into that later, but he shared his experience with a very similar situation, and that's what I needed to. And that, my friend, is the value of being inside of aa, right? Being inside a group like Alcoholics Anonymous, you can learn from other people. [00:18:06] This is the power. Let's just take it full circle. This is the power of collaboration, right? AA is a collaboration of people trying to stay sober and live a better life. Without that group, if you're, if you like, without that group, the group doesn't exist. Know that probably didn't make much. [00:18:24] But if you think about that, one person's not a group, two people are a group, you can have two people, you can have a meeting. In fact, I started a meeting, I don't know, seven years ago, eight years ago, and maybe longer than that, actually. And, I started with two people, and I grew it. [00:18:49] So the point here with this whole AA story is I went to a meeting yesterday, and I picked up a sponsee, and we're gonna meet. And that's the part I've been missing in my life, right? I've been missing that. As I said before, it feels like I've been given to the wrong group or the wrong people. And so I'm really grateful for that conversation with Eric, and I'm grateful for Jeff Bowab for introducing me to Eric because I needed that conversation that day. [00:19:17] I needed that conversation. It's just it's all on God's time, right? It's all on whatever you believe or whatever you call it, your high power, higher [00:19:28] power, or Buddha, whatever you wanna call it. But you gotta believe in something bigger than you, that's for sure. And I've always believed in, I haven't always, I shouldn't say that, but since I've been sober, I've absolutely thought of something bigger than me because it's, Way bigger than me and bigger than you. [00:19:46] All right, guys, Do me a favor. Share the show with me. I appreciate that. I appreciate you tuning in. We'll see you guys on the other side.

We're hot off the heels of the Underdog Empowerment event, and today's guest, Callye Keen, is fired up after attending. One of the topics touched on during the event was building a community, and today we're taking a deep dive into why that is so important. Partnerships and collaboration are one of Callye's biggest focuses as the Chief Business Development Officer at K-Form. He's always asking himself, “Who can I work with? Who can I add value to? Who can I collaborate with to increase impact?” He's well aware that no billion-dollar company was built alone. It's no secret to Callye that we can do things together that we couldn't do alone. You pay your way to an outcome that will never fill the void. Oftentimes people are so influenced by a name over someone who truly hustles. Consistency will allow you to do anything in this world. Sometimes it takes a shorter amount of time to reach that business goal or achieve that skill you want– but it all comes with time. There is a false narrative that success is overnight. It goes back to the old saying “Rome wasn't built in a day.” What's your Rome? Do you want to influence or do you want to quit the moment you encounter adversity. Welcome back to the End Hype podcast. In episode 112 Callye Keen welcomes back Julie Traxler, co-founder of SB PACE to dispel the myths around followers. There is a misconception that there is a direct correlation between followers and customers. That correlation doesn't exist. 10,000 followers does not equate to 10,000 paying customers. And at the end of the day, that's what you need, paying customers.Paying customers means everything in business. Followers don't matter. Listen in as Callye and Julie talk about alternative methods to social media marketing, and why someone who is watching you on social media platforms is more likely to buy from you than someone who is actually following and engaging with you on social media and social networks. And you're more likely to make a purchase during a product launch from someone and then start following them to support a product or service you like than you are to follow someone and then make a purchase. It's not a straight line from follower to sale.[10:03] Get out of your headYou've created some kind of crazy obstacle and you say if I do these things, then I'm going to be ready to offer something to my audience. I can tell you that you're just adding risk. And you're also building up an audience that doesn't know you're about to offer this thing. It's all in your head. You're complicating the product development process.[10:57] What are you afraid ofHow many people do you think are afraid to move off of social media as the marketing tool for their company because they're uncertain. Either they're afraid of the work effort to go someplace else. Or because they are afraid that maybe they don't actually have something that people want to buy? What if the fear is they will never make revenue, so they don't try?[12:34] Who already has the attention of your audienceIf he wanted to do this through social media, he'd have to create a Facebook page or start polling people, find all the Facebook groups created and start messaging. He'd have to do the whole social media thing from scratch. Now using the simple techniques that I use, we just went to the bike shop. Get in front of where the traffic already is. People in a bike shop, what do you know about them? Right off the bat. They like biking. They have a high intent ratio of purchasing like products.[17:00] Know your customerYou have to go where your actual customer is. I think a lot of people don't know where their customer is though, because they don't know who their customer is. Yes. So we dial it all the way back. And that's why I shared a new benchmarking tool that we're working on.[18:03] Partnerships Then I show them what you could do with B2B, what you can do with partnership deals. And it's this lightbulb moment, “I'm missing this whole other side of my brain”.[19:52] Ideal customerThat is not how things went, it was tons of networking to get in front of people, talk and figure out who our customer is and how we Underdog EmpowermentFrom over 5 years in prison to scaling businesses and rubbing elbows with...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Evolve CPG - Brands for a Better WorldA behind the scenes look at the leaders, brands, and products that are changing the world.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Join The End Hype Movementredbluecollective.com/movement

Welcome back to the End Hype podcast. Today is Part 2 of Product Launch and Brand Breakdown with host Callye Keen. If you missed part 1, check out episode 110. In today's episode Callye continues the conversation with business coach and operations expert, Julie Traxler of SB PACE, Tim Kincer and Logan Sanburn of Timberwolf Supply Co.In Part 1 we talked about the importance of your business name, the power of telling stories, how to build an audience, and how money doesn't solve problems, it just buys you speed. In part 2 we talk about leveraging other people's products, why it pays to care more about your audience, brand development, marketing strategy, brand strategy, and speed to market.[00:25] Planning horizonRight now, because you don't have a brand, if it takes you more than a couple of weeks to get a prototype in hand, your idea is too complicated. If you have to invest more than a handful of dollars in it, it's too expensive.[01:25] Develop better productsI come from a product development world. And in that world, we think of everything as prototypes. And what a prototype's job is to reveal and answer questions. It's to reveal the gaps in our knowledge so we can make a better version of it. It's to help develop a solid product roadmap. Maybe improve an existing product.[02:22] Traction productsI have a different strategy I think works for physical products better. We've had clients make millions of dollars in a strategy called traction products. It's a tremendous tool to acquire new customers, clarify your target market, and get wins in the early stages.[03:01] Other people's productsThis is why I like beauty products. I like supplements because there's whole companies that provide white labeling and co-packing for you. You don't have to have an infrastructure business. You don't need to follow a product development process. You can focus on white label products. You can look across the market for product ideas.[08:59] Care moreWhen you actually care and actually know your audience, it's really easy to step into that role of saying this is what I would want and reasonably assert that other people would want it as well. [14:34] Think fast and scrappyA big mistake that people make is making a walled garden for their business. They think it's gotta be perfect before releasing it, having a really cool website and an awesome logo. When in reality, for a lot of supplements and supplement companies that are starting, it looks like getting a vile of stuff in a white jar. We need to start thinking fast and scrappy. [17:35] CommunicationCommunication breeds clarity. If you can't communicate your brand, it's very hard to do any type of meaningful marketing or any type of B2B sales.[21:43] Customer acquisitionIn general, acquiring a customer is getting more expensive. So then if you look at your costs and your margins, especially when you're starting, it's a really easy way to lose a lot of money.[24:31]I want you to think about this, how are you going to acquire a customer? Where are they going to buy from you? What's going to capture their attention on that platform? And once you can answer some of those questions, we can back into what you can do.“Businesses are here to make money and a business should be making you money and giving you freedom.” Book Your Strategy Callhttp://collabproducts.com/book
Defeat the Chaos is a show for all small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Julie and Corey cover the successes and failures of being an entrepreneur. They focus on the importance of differentiating yourself from everyone else. This week Julie and Corey are sharing strong opinions on paid ads on social media. The good, the bad, the ugly. Corey hates social media, but he's recently started to really understand the power it can have for building a brand and promoting your business. The second half of this week's show features Defeat the Chaos regular guest, product development genius Callye Keen. Callye shares his opinions on paid ads and why there are better ways to make sales and grow your revenue.
Callye Keen sits down with Chalo Hernandez of El Paso, TX. Chalo and Callye share experiences of growing up in family owned product businesses. The challenges. The opportunities, and how that experience has shaped their career paths.Chalo's parents immigrated from Mexico, and started Tortilleria Cuauhtémoc, their food based business with nothing more than a dream and their credit cards. Now Chalo begins the process of taking over the business that has been in his family since he was eight years old. Over the past 20 years that business has grown from nothing to 40 employees, six delivery trucks, and over 250 regular accounts. Their products are special because they have no preservatives in them. There is nothing to extend the shelf life, which makes logistics a key component of their success. As Chalo moves into that role he created an online store and has set a goal to ship their fresh tortillas and chips to all 50 states before the end of 2022. [04:16] Family business before all elseIn middle school we would have parent teacher conferences and 99 percent of the time my parents wouldn't be able to attend because of the business. They were grinding it out. I would see my friends go out to the mall and I would call my parents, "hey, can I go with my friends? They are going to go hang out." And that was just not allowed because I had to work in the family business. There was always a need for more corn tortillas and flour tortillas.[07:23] No need for a resumeFriends don't understand when I tell them I don't have a resume. I've never needed one. I've never been on a job interview or filled out an employment application. I've never had those experiences, yet I've interviewed lots of people for jobs in our company. It's always been the family business for me. Even before my formal education was complete, I knew I would be working in a legacy business.[10:00] Employee mindsetPeople will bring the employee mindset into their business. “I'm going to be my own boss. I'm not going to have to answer to anyone.” The reality is every employee is your boss. Every customer is your boss. The bank's going to be your boss. All you've done is sign up for every single person in the world to be your boss. [11:08] How do you sell tortillas? We've built this business without paid ads or an intentional marketing strategy. The quality of our products and word of mouth have been the biggest factors in growing the business. It's only recently that we have started focusing more on social media and marketing. We've grown because we care about our customers and our quality. We make a thicker tortilla, which makes for a better experience. [14:21] Layering successAs a business, how can you take what's already working and layer new success on top of that? Subscriptions are one way to layer success. [22:38] Start with the endStart with the end in mind. Understand what you want the company to grow into.. How do you want it to look? How many employees? How many locations? Start building in that direction or you're going to end up somewhere you don't want to be. Don't leave it up to chance. “It sounds like magic, but it is a harsh reality. The thing that you want, you couldn't keep it if you got it, because you're not the person that would be able to run with it. Yet.” Book Your Strategy Callhttp://collabproducts.com/book
Welcome to End Hype podcast, in episode 106 Callye Keen is sharing some hard truths for entrepreneurs to hear, and they all center around email marketing. If you're a coach or a knowledge worker it's easy to understand the strategy behind growing a list and sending out lead magnet offers. But for product based businesses, an email list strategy can be confusing. It takes more than sending out regular newsletters to your list, and then hitting them with an offer when you have a new product launch. “Email marketing is both a powerful tool and it's an archaic annoyance.”[03:26] Email enhancementEmail is still very powerful, but how, and when can you deploy email to enhance the customer experience and enhance revenue? Let's put this in simple terms. How can we make money with email, make happy customers instead of annoying people? [05:43] The customer journeyHere's the big challenge: create an email that's worth reading, great headline, great hook, great content. It requires effort. It requires creating a customer journey. Most people don't want effort. They want magical thinking. They want silver bullets. They want to be able to slap and smash their product in somebody's face over and over again until they purchase it.[09:54] Lead magnetsIf you can figure out what your customer is trying to do, what their goal is, you can make a cheat sheet, an ebook, a guide that helps them mentally process what they're trying to do. Maybe it's a review. Maybe it's all the different products that they need for their camping trip. Maybe it's everything that they need to cook that perfect first date meal. I don't know what you sell, but you can definitely produce a lead magnet. [12:18] Strong relationshipsI really like the idea of starting relationships off in a strong way. If I can help somebody achieve what they want to achieve, I can send emails that contain a lead magnet that puts me in the best situation. It also puts me in a really great situation to explain the context and value of that specific product or our product line, and then give them a call to action to purchase it. This improves conversion rates and helps build a successful brand.[14:21] Newsletters are trashDo I enjoy getting newsletters in general? The answer is no. Why do people do it? In theory they are still more effective than nothing. In practice it's because email marketers don't care about your customer. If you're using an email marketing agency, they don't care about your customers. If you use this tactic, you don't care about your customers. Customer feedback and open rates will confirm this.[20:30] Meaningful emailsIf it's supporting something that's important to those people, to your customers, you can fill them with positive energy, with happiness. Something that will motivate them to share it out, to spread your message. It's not going to be a discount. It's not going to be because you hammered them with a newsletter every week. It has to be something that goes to their core values. Those emails result in customer interaction with your brand. Consumers will share that on Facebook.“Your emails. They annoy everyone. They prevent people from purchasing.” Book Your Strategy Callhttp://collabproducts.com/book

My name is Peter Shankman. This is the one day a week, but I try to do as many interviews as I can because ADHD. I don't know, interviews and in the middle of that, and I'm answering emails. I get an email from someone who says hey, sorry for the slow reply. Um, we're pausing for now. So we'll be in touch. This is a client, this is a company who I've been trying to hire, not to give me money. I wanted to give them money, right. And after like two weeks, three weeks, four weeks of back and forth of contracts and everything, Hey, we're pausing guys. If you're an entrepreneur and you run your own company, there's absolutely a reason you can make money. All you gotta do is be slightly, slightly better than idiots like this. What I'm trying to give you upwards of 500,000. And you're gonna pause. You're a moron. Okay. I got that in my system. Anyway. Literally it just happened like 30 seconds before I started this call so hey, got it out of my system with apologies to Corey Berrier who's our, who's our guest today who did not sign on to hear me ramble, Corey- thank you for being here. Corey started his business coaching in 2014. When he got tired of business, struggling to make sales and not have the ability to offer solutions. It's all shit. I have a company you should probably talk to; I just got off the phone with them. Anyway, Corey, working with his training clients who owns a small plumbing company and the owner asking you to talk with the sales team. That led to where he is today. He's based in Raleigh. He was diagnosed at age 8 and his services extended to wherever he's needed, whether it be online on the phone. Corey has excellent guidance and excellent coaching and he is going to talk about his ADHD journey starting right now. Corey welcome! Sorry about that random intro, but oh my God. Why are companies so stupid? So it's a great, great question. Peter you're so right. You have to be a little bit better, right? You just have to be a little bit, so you're you're right. Your company does need to talk to me because they're making very bad decisions, but a lot of companies do that. Peter. I'd love to start this out by tying this to exactly why we're on the call, which is, you know, I've, you know, the thing that you ran out about me is changed just a little bit. So I don't work just with plumbing companies now I work with, well, I work with a lot of different companies. I work with consultants all over the world, and I also work with a lot of trades companies, but here's the. Really the biggest thing that I want to drive home. And why I'm on this call with you is, you know, about five months ago I realized I had no fucking idea what ADHD really meant for me. And I've been taking medicine Peter for 36 years, 36 years. And so I just, I had no idea that, you know, I forget shit all the time. I, you know, I lose stuff; my phone's in my hand and I'm looking for it. Like all the things. I you thought that, you know, I burnt my brain up doing drugs years ago or drinking. That's the truth. That's what I thought for years. And so when I, so one of, in one of my entrepreneur groups, I noticed, I noticed a guy did a post in the word he used the word neurodivergent. I have never seen this word in my entire life. And when I saw it, I'm like, damn, that is such a cool looking word. That was the first off. And I'm like, I got to figure out I'll let me just ask the guy what it means. Well, he didn't answer me. And so I'm not certainly not going to wait for him to answer me. So I just went and figured it out myself. Of course. Yep. So I Google it and it takes me to YouTube. So I like, okay, well I'll just watch one of these videos and see what it is. This guy is literally talking about me! And I'm like, holy fucking shit. What the fuck is going on? How I just, how am I just now understanding this. And the truth of the matter is, is guess what he was like. I didn't have a reason to look at. I didn't know. I didn't know. You know, you never put two and two together, right? Yeah. And so the reason that I believe I am so much better in my job now at working with these companies is because you know] this; most people are ADHD. Business owners, most people that are sales, right? Those are the two people I worked with. So imagine how much more money they're going to make. If I can shore up those areas where they don't even see the problem. In other words, if they've got half her and she's not following up well, you and I both know the reason for that, but he may not. He or she may not know the reason for that. And if they do know that. What's that going to do for their business. Holy cow. Right? It might, it blows my mind. It really does. No, you look at, and then look, there there's two types of, of, of, of sort of companies that are mistaken, right. Because the type of companies just take it because exactly what you said, they don't understand how to better target their brain, how to better use the functions they have. Those are the ones that you can help. Then there are companies that are just stupid because they're idiots, right. And, and they just don't see the value they are leaving on the table. And Unfortunately, I think it's a lot, a lot more of them, a lot more out that they're just run by idiots. But no, I think that, you know, one of the things when I went out on my own as an entrepreneur, probably 20, 20, whatever years ago now, um, you know, I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew there was something I could do. And that's, I think a key thing that.. like, you realize the same thing right. In that, in that you're not sure what it is, but there's something out there there's some way that you can better things. Right. So give us some examples of that. Well, I think this, I feel like this is the example, and I'll tell you, Peter, for years, I've been, you know, I've owned multiple businesses and I've done great, but some of them, and I had failed miserably with some of them. And at the end of the day, like here's the deal. I went through all of those businesses and all of those things. To lead me to where I am today because I can serve the people that I work with at such a higher level, because I understand the things that they're going through. I understand I can look at somebody. I can ask, you know, this people, you can ask somebody one or two questions and, you know, If they're not just like you are not right; by the way they answer. And so that's where I feel like my superpower lies is that I've taken my love for sales. I've taken my ability to connect with people and to connect people with other people, collaborations and harnessed that into I guess you would say the 88, I guess you would say that I use my ADHD to yeah, to better serve the people I work with because I can see things they can't Tell us about when you were diagnosed. Tell us what it was like growing up as a kid. How, how did you grow up in South Carolina, where are you from? So I'm from North Carolina. That's a great question. I'm actually from Mayberry, Peter. Yep. Yep. Good old freaking Mayberry going up, you know, I didn't have a bad childhood. I didn't, um, And in ADHD, where now looking back where it affected me was, you know, I made terrible grades. I hated school. I would rather be doing anything other than that. Outside of that, I mean, I was never put into a special ed class, which I've, I've interviewed now. I'm writing a book about this, uh, ADHD sales and entrepreneurship. And so I've interviewed, um, close to 50 people now that are professionals in the field. And. And what I'm finding is there's a lot of people that do get put in special education classes, they get put in, you know, they get labeled and I'm sure I got labeled, but I never got labeled quite like that. And so you didn't really ask me that- you asked me how my childhood was, was pretty good. I mean, I think it was a good childhood. I got into a lot of trouble. I mean, I was constantly doing something. But, you know, but I'll tell you what, I think one of the things that I think would have helped me more than anything I think is probably if they, if, if teachers then could have understood what they understand now, I think, I think my journey with school would have been a little easier. I think. I don't know that for sure. No, I believe it. I believe it. There's definitely a, a, you know, there's a level of, I sort of the same way and that in that, you know, sit down and you disrupt the class disease was not what I had, but it's, it's what teachers knew. It's all the teachers. Right. And, and, and to, to an extent it's crazy as it is, it's something important. Unfortunately, it's still going on that way. Right. There's still, it's not as, I mean, there's a little bit more understanding, but it's not as big as it ever was. You're right, Peter. So let me ask you this. You're a perfect person to ask this question to. So when I bring this up to people, um, you know, when I, when I'm talking to another entrepreneur or business owner that I'm starting to have conversations to work with, how would you, you know, if you've noticed this about somebody, is it something that you would bring up in that setting? Well, you know, I can tell immediately if someone's ADD or ADHD and I call it ADHDdar, right. It's similar to Gaydar. Right. I, I also believe that, um, you know, there are a lot of people who don't appreciate it to the same level that I do. I have this, you know, I love my ADHD. Right. I think my ADHD is the greatest thing in the world and I love what it can do for me and how it can help me. (I didn't get the entire phone ring removed). But there are a lot of people who have not had that experience yet. And so they sit there and they're kind of like, uh, this is the worst thing in the world. So I don't necessarily bring it up unless the conversation brings itself or lends itself to that. I think a lot of times there, you know, until you know, that answer. Until, you know, that answer. I tend to be a little quiet. But not labeled probably because there is, I mean, you know, this was a lot of into negative labels around ADHD and delight you because I understand my ADHD it is a super power because I understand what I really suck at. I'm getting what I am just not going to need no matter what, the reason behind it, there are certain things, Peter, I'm just not going to do period. No, a hundred percent. And I think that we get used to what we know and used to what we're good at. And, and we learn to be what were we learned to do what we're good at better and ignore, you know, or, or in this case pass off what we're not good at. But you know, so my wonder and I'm, like I said, I've interviewed a lot of people and I, I found, and this is just my observation, that a lot of people in a lot of people that I interviewed, just feel like that the information they have about ADHD is really not worth a whole lot because they have ADHD themselves. And I think it's a common misconception also outside that with salespeople is same thing. Right? A lot of people think that salespeople are shady or shitty or are slimy or whatever you want to call it, but that's just a common misconception. That's just not the truth. Well, except, I mean, there are certain, there are look there's there's truths to every reality and there's false. There's falses in every reality right? There are a lot of people there a lot. I've met a lot of sales guys who are incredibly slimy and I wouldn't wanna work, but I've also met some of the nicest people in the world. So I think it's the same thing with ADHD. I mean, I've met people who use ADHD to their advantage and they're still assholes. I think people use. Right. So it's, you know, there's two sides to every single conceivable coin in the world. I think that that labeling people in any capacity, right. Call me ADHD, but I'm so much more than just that. Right? I think everyone is so much more than just that. So at the end of the day, you know, I don't know if the labels help. I don't know either, but I tell you one label that did help me and you'll find, you might find this interesting is; when I uncovered what rejection sensitivity meant. And I didn't know that that's not even a, I saw even a medical term. I don't believe, uh, I don't think it's in. I don't think you would know the answer to that. I would not. I identify with that shit boo, big time, big time. I don't, I don't get to, I'm not a victim, but I understand now why sometimes I might receive what, what Peter says to me, to hurt my feelings. So to speak. And if I know that, guess what, I can be prepared for that and I can handle it with more emotional intelligence. I agree. I agree. I think a lot, again, also understanding sort of the way the brain works in that regard. Not everything is going to be an insult, or even meant as an insult. And there've been countless times when I have been in situations where I'm like, okay, I think I, a couple of. Um, I'm walking down the street. I'm not feeling great about myself and I, I I'm looking at my phone. I could see me as I passed some guy. I don't even look at him and him go Jesus. And my first thought is, oh, wow. He really saw how fat I feel today. Right. That's ridiculous. It totally didn't happen. But our brains are designed in such a way that yeah, we're gonna go to the worst possible. So, no, that's not always the case. Yeah, that's, that's a great point. That is a great point. And you're right. There are always, everything is subjective, right? It just depends on who's looking at it and how they're looking at and how they're feeling that day. It could always be a different answer, you know? A hundred percent, a hundred percent. Very cool. It's as part of the stuff that I work with people on, uh, it's a very, very small part of what I work people with people on, but I would also argue that it's maybe one of the most important things that I work with people on. Defeat the Chaos is a show for all small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Julie and Corey cover the successes and failures of being an entrepreneur. They focus on the importance of differentiating yourself from everyone else. This week Julie and Corey tackle the topic of why entrepreneurs fail, and why it's not always a bad thing. After the first break, product development genius Callye Keen joins the show. Callye is a regular guest to the show, bringing years of knowledge and experience to you. Callye provides insight into why he believes entrepreneurs fail. We wrap the show up talking about current events, news headlines we love, a little gambling, and answering listener questions.
End Hype host Callye Keen dives into the future of e-commerce, looking at Shopify trends. It's hard to believe that e-commerce isn't the leading way consumers buy. Online stores are so prevalent in our lives. Especially after the past 2 years, with more businesses online. E-Commerce is on the rise, and Shopify is the platform that most direct to consumer businesses use. Shopify recently released The Future of Commerce report, and they cover the same topics I cover in group coaching, in my Facebook group, and on this podcast. Today we're going to talk about one of those trends, rising customer acquisition costs. A topic that includes brand messaging, brand strategy, and satisfying the market. “Direct to consumer competition is rising. Advertising costs are skyrocketing across platforms and brand building is helping attract and keep customers.”[01:44] Brand loyalty and product fit is a necessity Rising acquisition costs are forcing brands to foster long-term relationships with their customers. Actually building real brands. Getting off the addiction to paid ads. As e-commerce grows, as more big brands see e-commerce as their main channel, the competition for eyeballs is fierce. [04:01] Don't blame iOSWe could also try to blame the iOS update and technical reasons for why ads are getting more expensive. But I'm seeing this kind of cumulative effect because as ads work less, people are spending more to get less. Instead of people leaving the system, they're spending more money. Ad expense is increasing as its effectiveness decreases.[06:15] Long term strategy over short term gainsIf you think of spending money on ads as a brand positioning exercise at the top of your funnel, in which you continue to nurture a community of customers, you're going to win.[09:17] Measure what mattersYou need to figure out how to measure what's important to you. How many customers do you need to get? What's their average order? How many customers do you need to return? Who's opening up your emails?[10:20] Position yourself for successThe long-term optimal scenario is to not spend any money on ads. Maybe on ads for growth or penetrating a new market, but best case scenario, no ads. Your product sells because people love you. They want what you have. And when you announce that it's coming, it sells out. That's what real product market fit looks like. [12:48] Try a marketplaceShopify suggests using marketplaces as both sales and marketing channels for your ecommerce business. A place where you can list your product and sell it everywhere. Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and Etsy are great examples. This doesn't have to be your home base of operations. But if you're looking at additional channels to test, if you're looking at new channels to acquire customers, these people own the eyeballs. Marketplaces are an effective marketing strategy. [16:00] DifferentiateIf you want to build a brand it needs to be simple and memorable. Something people can remember so they tell others, but it needs to deeply resonate with who they are. You don't need everyone. The world is big. “Everything works until it doesn't, but the brand will always work. It is an eternal strategy. So you've got to figure out how to speak to somebody. Create differentiation, create a community, curate that community, nurture that community.” Book Your Strategy Callhttp://collabproducts.com/book

If you don't understand your consumer, you can't fix your marketing. Alex Vonderhaar sold magic shows as a kid. Now he grows businesses with proven neuro-marketing tactics. He says with hard work and good copy no magic is necessary. Digital marketing gurus are everywhere – selling courses with false promises for instant success. This motivates Alex to produce sustainable marketing plans built on an understanding of human behavior. He explains how a good copy can differentiate a business and build a strong foundation. You can kill a business if you give it too much or too little of what it needs. 18:55 – The Value of Brand Promises – Differentiate the problem you promise to solve. A successful marketing plan will not happen overnight. 31:39 – Good Copywriting – A good copywriter is a good researcher. Understand your consumer to craft stories that evoke an emotional response. Is your product idea trending or dying in 2021? Not every idea is worth an investment. Get to know the popular markets in 2021 to decide where to place your time and resources. Any small business looking for a trending product to sell online should be watching current market trends. Markets gain popularity due to current events or potential future upside. Identifying product categories that are now in high demand is an avenue toward growth for ecommerce businesses and any online business looking to sell a physical product. This makes it an opportunity-rich space to invest in or test new applications. 07:24 - Beauty Products - The beauty industry is an optimal market for products to sell in 2021. There's plenty of room for innovation as demand for common products rises. The best way to develop a product in the beauty space will be to align that product with your avatar. Taking advantage of the scaling capabilities of products is a viable option for growing your small business. How do you stand out and get attention in one of the most saturated markets out there? Hint: it's not by bragging on your accomplishments or putting out a single good ad. Why do brands fail? We see brands come and go every day - they get hyped up then disappear, while others stick around for a century or more. Figuring out the difference, and why those flash-in-the-pan brands blink out so fast, is key to making sure that yours doesn't.On this episode of End Hype: Product Entrepreneurship for Impact, Callye breaks branding down past the superficial, unimportant elements to its most vital pieces, the need for focus in your brand (both in its message and in the way you run it), and fighting the urge to coast once you get to a certain level so you can keep the momentum going and increase your impact. Does networking make your stomach turn upside-down? This is the episode for you.On this episode of End Hype, Callye shares how networking can become a force multiplier for your capabilities and your success even if interpersonal skills have never been your strength. Here's the bad news: networking can be extremely uncomfortable. In fact, attending networking events has always been tough for entrepreneurs who might not be as gregarious or outgoing as others. To make matters worse, the individuals who are attracted to these events are often there with the wrong motives and intentions. The types of people that we all want to surround ourselves with are oftentimes simply too busy to attend many of the networking events popping up in today's market. So how do we find the diamonds in the rough and make sure our networking efforts are actually having an ROI?Fortunately, there is good news: networking does not have to be so difficult or overwhelming. There are some different “hacks” you can apply if you have enough self-awareness to know that networking is not your strong-suit.At the end of the day, it boils down to knowing your strengths and weaknesses and adjusting accordingly. Listen to this show to learn the playbook! What You'll Learn:Why becoming a public speaker can be a networking hack for introvertsHow to run an event and network at the same timeWhy networking is essential to your business success, even if it makes you uncomfortable. At the end of the day, starting a business is an uncomfortable process. It's about being self aware and knowing how your efforts can be best applied. And much more!Favorite Quote:“There's such a small percentage of people in life, especially in business, that are actually adding value. If you join a mentorship group, you'll understand. If there's 100 “mentors” that SHOULD be amazing, a very small percentage will actually add value, actually do the work, and actually help people. Those people will all know each other… Get involved with those people... “No man is an island.” - John DonneYou've probably heard that saying before - and it goes double for anyone who's trying to build a new business, a better product, or a legacy of innovation and success. You need people. Said another way, you need to know who to bring people to you, and who you should have on your side.Nate Peo builds personal brands that give corporate brands personality, because he knows that truly connected, advantageous relationships can only be built when people know they can trust you. Nate helps companies run their property purchasing process more efficiently through his work with his other business, Procurvia, and he is the host of the All-in-One Podcast. On this episode of End Hype, Callye and Nate dive into the reasons why everyone, regardless of industry or experience level, needs a growing (and trusted) network, how having those connections expands the realm of what's possible for you in terms of innovation, and how a well-built personal (and professional brand) lets people know who you are - and give you better opportunities - without ever having met you. Tune in to start cultivating a network that can help you take your own ideas, and those of the people on your team, to great heights. What You'll Learn:What builds the strongest connection between entrepreneurs and helps them help each other as they grow and develop a personal brandHow startups allow their teams and owners to build a knowledge base they would never otherwise have the chance to buildWhy the off-putting people speaking at networking events seem so disconnected to what they're saying, and what's going on behind-the-scenes in their careerFavorite Quote:"If you show up enough times, people are going to appear into your life."Nate PeoConnect with Nate:https://www.natepeo.com/ About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. There are times that we are lost and we struggle to make things happen and need someone to guide us through. Are you willing to take a step to turn your ideas into reality? Or do nothing and your ideas remain a fantasy. On this episode of End Hype, Callye talks about the startup world and their great ideas and the reality of it, decoding the entrepreneurs' starting beliefs of doing wild and crazy things to build a successful business and how to approach and solve problems like an optimistic outsider.Listen in for an episode that will guide you in your startup journey as an entrepreneur and winning for real, not for luck. What You'll Learn:How to transform your product ideas into reality (0:04)What is the skill that you need to learn to overcome obstacles that will come in your way to challenge your strength in running your business (15:00)Why practicality and putting it into reality is important like asking yourself the right questions and putting yourself into the position of positivity and negativity. (18:41)And much more!Favorite Quote:" We have two different ways of thinking, pessimist calls themselves realist and then dreamers will call themselves optimists, but these two people are not oil and water, it could be just you. But the value is in the friction. With a lot of this dual type of thinking, the value isn't in holding one of those beliefs and holding it strong. But the value is in between those two things because it requires both. So the value is in the friction, where you can't resolve those two pieces called cognitive dissonance. These two ideas can't exist, they can't coexist, they cause friction. Those sparks is where real change happens because there's a lot of people out there with ideas that never make anything happen. So when you combine those two things, those two ideas hating each other, arguing with each other, I think it holds the value."Callye KeenHow to Get Involved:Follow Callye onhttps://youtube.com/redbluecollective (YouTube)http://instagram.com/callyekeen (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/redbluecollective (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. What's the biggest struggle that plagues your industry? You probably thought of one right away. Now, the next question is, are you the type to simply survive that struggle and progress on your own, or the type to innovate, elevate the practices in your industry, and help everyone else rise with you?An engineer, UltraRunner/endurance athlete and entrepreneur, Dillon Mitchell is the founder of Kowabunga Studios, a software and consulting firm geared towards making the lives of engineers better through automation and time-saving solutions. Kowabunga Studios was created because of the tedious tasks and stressful deadlines Dillon experienced as an engineer, designing millions of square feet of commercial buildings. Dillon and Kowabunga Studios' mission is to help engineers, architects, and contractors save time and live better lives. On this episode of End Hype, Callye and Dillon discuss the birth of (and need for) Kowabunga Studios, the prevalence of tunnel-vision tech entrepreneurs with very limited perspective on their own projects, finding unique ways to engage with your market and your industry through online platforms like LinkedIn, and how Dillon's ability to blend and combine ideas sets him apart in his industry and even further. Listen in for an episode that will give you new clarity on how ideas become products and products become impact. What You'll Learn:How the stress inherent in the construction industry catalyzed Dillon's move into making life better and more streamlined for engineers on projects (4:38)What you need to know about building an expansive and effective network on LinkedIn, and what to show them once you've done so (23:20)Why much of the recent innovation in construction brings to the table not only less waste and more time savings, but also a host of pandemic-friendly benefits from safety to social distancing (42:53)And much more!Favorite Quote:"You got to be in love with the idea, you know, you have to have that commitment, that drive for it. For what I'm doing, like, my big goal, if you will, is I'm going to save a billion hours annually in construction - period. So, that's across robotics design, you name it. If it has to do with construction, we're gonna save you time, we're gonna make your life better, period. But I have a passion for that, because construction builds the world, and nobody seems to care about those people. Okay, I'll be that guy to help you save time and live better, period." -Dillon MitchellConnect with Dillon Mitchellhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/dillon-mitchell-kowabungastudios/ (LinkedIn)https://www.instagram.com/dillonAMitchell (Instagram)https://www.youtube.com/user/dalexm13/featured (YouTube)https://www.kowabungastudios.com/ (Kowabunga Studios) https://www.instagram.com/kowabungastudios/ (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/kowabungastudios (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. Be honest - do you tend to dive into projects (or even businesses) without doing a lot of thinking, let alone planning? It's a common entrepreneurial urge...but the secret to bypassing all the rest of the ready-fire-aim crowd is collecting wisdom and strategies from people who've been there already. On this episode of End Hype, Callye lays out the most important nuggets from his most recent livestream interview, including getting involved at the ground level with the next pursuit you've got your eye on, the importance of thinking in practical frameworks, and discovering the major benefits of baby steps. Listen in for a concentrated dose of wisdom that you can inject straight into your career, whether you're an up-and-coming CEO or just someone with a great idea. What You'll Learn:Why working in a small-business setting is a unique and valuable challenge for those looking to learn and learn quickly (7:15)What experimentation does for the product development process and how we reach more and more clarity as we go (14:59)How to construct a process that takes a more reasonable approach to product readiness (at every stage) than just "go fast and break things" (19:53)And much more!Favorite Quote:"What I'm trying to get you to do is solve problems a little bit at a time. So, we build a better team, we build better core intellectual property, we build revenue, we build partnerships, and we take these on, and just one challenge right after the other, whereas the temptation is to go really fast and then make one giant obstacle, one thing that can't be overcome. So it's like the difference between scaling a wall and going up a flight of stairs. Can you scale a wall? Yes. Can most people do it? No. Can most people go up a flight of stairs? Yes, that's what they're designed for. So, they think that it's faster because they're running on flat ground, but then they just literally hit a brick wall."Callye KeenHow to Get Involved:Followhttps://youtube.com/redbluecollective (YouTube)http://instagram.com/callyekeen (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/redbluecollective (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. Ever wondered what goes into that amazing new product that comes out and changes lives? Most of us just see the shiny end result, but the process behind the scenes - and the people involved - are the truly mind-blowing part of these products.Daniel Slaski is a mechanical engineer and product developer by profession and a designer at heart, as well as a contributing writer at SolidSmack and a SolidWorks power user. Daniel's vast breadth of experience in multiple types of environments from medical to tech to aerospace have given him a holistic and high-level view into product development in all its forms. On this episode of End Hype, Callye and Daniel dig into the incredible value of the lessons you learn and the skills you pick up working at (or with) a small startup as opposed to a larger company while you're considering your own startup, the philosophies that help Daniel solve problems and grow as an engineer, and the value of having diverse viewpoints and differing opinions around the table. Listen in for an in-depth look at the creative process behind the products and ideas you love. What You'll Learn:What the downside to the “Wild West” rule-lessness of small companies looks like - and how to navigate it to get things done (16:39)Why from-scratch innovation isn't always helpful to the process of designing and developing technology (26:31)How to break away from the expectation of clean-cut, mathematical, black-and-white processes and embrace the mess (43:00)And much more!Favorite Quote:“It's about moving forward, right? Like, move these designs forward, right? Like, you get stalled and you have to un-stall things, right? Nobody wins when you're stalled in design forever. You're not winning, you're not moving on to the next cool thing, the company's not winning. So you just, you know, you have to keep moving the ball forward. It's awesome. It's a part of the process.”Daniel SlaskiConnect with Daniel:https://www.linkedin.com/in/danielslaski/ (LinkedIn)https://www.solidsmack.com/ (SolidSmack)Dan@solidsmack.comHow to Get Involved:https://youtube.com/redbluecollective (YouTube)http://instagram.com/callyekeen (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/redbluecollective (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. Who's your favorite fake "guru" online? They're everywhere, and it's impossible not to stumble across their outrageous promises and eye-catching ads. But some of these scammers are a lot more subtle...how do you tell the difference between a grifter and a mentor who can really help you get ahead? On this episode of End Hype, Callye breaks open the world of Internet money-making scams, exploring the implausible claims they make and why we're so attracted to them, analyzing the programming that makes us susceptible to people who claim to have authority and their magical answers, and outlining a more legitimate, fulfilling path to entrepreneurship for those who are willing to do the work. Join in for some valuable scam-avoiding insight that could save you time, money and a lot of failure. What You'll Learn:How even the most mundane parts of our daily lives developed from disruptive, revolutionary ideas - plus why our brains love an easy answer (6:14)What our fragile egos tell us when we're confronted with an offer that's too good to be true, and what you should be pursuing instead of cheap validation (14:03)Why a flashy online presentation should be a big red flag, and a few ways to spot telltale inconsistencies (18:19)And much more!Favorite Quote:"Anytime I see there's, like, a magic key being turned or there's a way to like, trick somebody with NLP... there's no cheat mode, right? There's just, like, success mode. And you can turn success mode on by doing the work. Asking people that really know what they're talking about. You know, getting feedback from people, actually setting your ego aside and digesting that feedback and improving. If you can just do the work and improve, that's kind of how the whole process functions. But it's hard to draw that line and say, 'Okay, this is where that mentorship and that coaching and that good information is, and here's where that bad information is, that's where the trickster information is.'"Callye KeenHow to Get Involved:Followhttps://youtube.com/redbluecollective (YouTube)http://instagram.com/callyekeen (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/redbluecollective (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. What happens to all your great ideas? As entrepreneurs, we're near-constantly daydreaming about one bombshell innovation or another...only a fraction of which we actually see through. So, what's the roadblock between a great idea and a real-life product, and how do we get past it? Kelli Kedis Ogborn is the founder and CEO of H.S. Dracones, a company focused on helping businesses and ventures navigate the waters of commercialization and growth through resources like market assessment plans, as well as science-based language and communication strategies to keep the human side of innovation front and center. On this episode of the End Hype Podcast, Callye and Kelli dig into the challenges innovators face at every level from high school science fairs all the way up to NASA, making sure entrepreneurship aligns with your vision and your values (plus what happens when it doesn't), keeping service and a desire to make life better at the center of your product development, and approaching healthy partnerships with less apprehension and more productive strategy. Tune in for an interview that will get your creative brain up and moving. What You'll Learn:How Kelly developed a name for her organization that managed to be both incredibly unique and perfectly descriptive of her purposeWhat key factor keeps your customers engaged with the product you're offering - and how to get a “second date” with your audienceWhy the uncertainty, often-radical changes and unforeseen bumps that come with the process of cultivating your company or product shouldn't scare youAnd much more!Favorite Quote:“Everyone's heard the saying, ‘Fortune favors the bold,' and it really is true, right? Because for entrepreneurs - it is very risky. But you're going to be the most successful if, at least, you know what those roadblocks might be, and how to be able to mitigate them. And so you're never going to be in the clear, right? But at least you can say, ‘I anticipated this, and these are four different ways I can get around it.' So it just allows your path to be a little more linear, even though it's never going to be linear.”Kelli OgbornConnect with Kelli:https://www.linkedin.com/in/kellikedisogborn/ (LinkedIn)http://www.hsdracones.com/ (Hsdracones.com)How to Get Involved:After experiencing firsthand the development and manufacturing process behind hundreds of products, Callye Keen distilled his insight and experience into the https://www.redbluecollective.com/ (Red Blue Collective) framework, through which his clients have built and scaled 7-8 figure business and sales across the world. He presents that same insight and mastery, along with the wisdom and stories of expert guests, with the End Hype podcast.
