Ved. Ved. Arvydas Urba

Welcome to Daily Bitachon. We should throw a little party, because we just finished the Pesukei Bitachon of the Maharal, after also going through the list of the Rabbi Yosef of Salant. We are now going to start a different list of Pesukim , Perek Shira , which, as we'll see shortly, is connected to our Pesukei Bitachon . Perek Shira is a compilation of Pesukim that are said by the animals and different creations of God, the songs they sing. There's an introduction to Perek Shira that says, in the name of the holy Rabbenu Hakadosh, that ‘ Whoever involves himself in Perek Shira in this world (and in some of the texts it says every day ) merits to learn, to teach, to keep the Mitzvot. It protects from the Yetzer Hara and from any bad occurrences, from punishment in the World to Come, and from the difficulties of the times of Mashiach (which we are currently in), he will live a long life, merit the days of Mashiach and Olam Haba. That's a mouthful of praise, but the sefer Eliya Rabbah , makes bit of a diyuk : it doesn't say whoever reads it, it says whoever involves himself in it. That means you have to delve into it to get the benefits of Perek Shira. The Eliya Rabbah says one benefit is learning the Mussar and the message of of these songs. The Eliya Rabbah also tells us ( Or HaChaim siman א ) that one does not have to finish Perek Shira every day. It doesn't say that. It says whoever involves themself in it. So, a snippet a day keeps all the bad things away. What exactly is Perek Shira ? The Arizal tells us, based on our rabbis, that every blade of grass (which really means every creature), has an angel that tells it to grow. That angel is in charge of the development and life of that creature. But he says the angel does not have the power to bestow life on this creature until it sings a song in front of God, and singing its song is what brings blessing down on this creation. Of course, grass doesn't sing, but rather, these are the songs of the representative angels of these creatures. Rav Chaim Volozhin says in Nefesh HaChaim (first gate, chapter 11), that when a man says Perek Shira down here, he is actually causing the whole world to be sustained, as he empowers the angels to sing these songs to God. The reason for this is that man includes all the forces in creation; man has inside of him a cow, a bear and a lion- every creation is inside of man. The Zohar says that when God said, Na'aseh Adam/ Let us make man Rashi says it means He was talking to the angels. But the Zohar says, Let us make man means God was talking to all of creation saying, Let's put a little bit of everybody into man. Therefore, man has all the creatures inside of him, and when he sings these songs, he gives the power to the ministering angels of all creations, so they can sing their songs and bring benevolence down into the world. The sefer Yad Mitzrayim, written by a student of the Gaon of Vilna, tells us that because man has all of creation inside of him, man was capable of naming every animal and every creature- because he was connected to it. He infused energy into creation. Furthermore, David Hamelech, who is a continuation of Adam HaRishon and came to fix what Adam HaRishon ruined, was the one that sang all the songs. So, because he brought life into creation, he was able to bring life into himself. David Hamelech was not supposed to live but his bringing life into the world caused him to have life as well. Thus, when David Hamelech says, Lo Amut/I will not die, Ki Ehyeh /I will live, it means, Even though I really do not have life naturally, I will live, because , as the pasuk continues, Asaper Ma'aseh Ya/ I will tell over the deeds of God, and that will give me life. Many commentaries say that after David wrote Tehilim , he wrote Perek Shira. And now that we've finished these many pesukim , primarily from Tehilim, which are mainly pesukei bitachon, of reliance on Hashem, we will go through Pirkei Shira, because that's what follows bitachon. As we once said, from Rav Chaim of Brisk, V'Ani B'Hasdecha Batachti/I rely on Your kindness. Yagel Libi B'Yeshuatecha/My heart will be rejoiced in Your salvation . Ashir LaHashem Ki Gamal Ali/ I will sing songs to Hashem because He's bestowed upon me. -So first there's bitachon, relying on Hashem, -and being happy with the salvation before it actually happens because you're a Baal bitachon. -And the ultimate is Ashira La Hashem/I will sing to Hashem. This is our introduction to Perek Shira. B'Ezrat Hashem , we will go through close to100 pesukim over the next few months, with Hashem's help.

Welcome to daily. We're now in Tehilim 21,8 כִּֽי־הַ֭מֶּלֶךְ בֹּטֵ֣חַ בַּיהֹוָ֑ה וּבְחֶ֥סֶד עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן בַּל־יִמּֽוֹט׃ For the King trusts in Hashem and the kindness of the Most High, (referring to Hashem) that he will not falter. Rabbenu Bachye in Bamidbar 22, 2 discusses the concept of a Jewish king and says that originally Hashem did not want there to be a Jewish king because the people rely on the king and the king relies on the people. It's reciprocal. The king wants to have a large nation army and he's relying on them and they're ultimately relying on him. But we, the Jewish people are supposed to rely directly on Hashem. The Torah forbade reliance on human beings. Hashem wants each of us to individually rely on Hashem. When we have that, we shouldn't need to have any one man to rely on. Even more than that, every individual will be more guaranteed than the king. Since Hashem knew that in the future the people would become weak, he set up a system for a king, but it's really not ideal and that's why Hashem wasn't happy with it. David Hamelech is different though. As our pasuk says, this King trusts Hashem. This king, says the Radak is different than other kings. He does not rely on the masses of people. He relies on hesed Elyon/ the kindness of the One that's the highest. The system of bitachon is like a pyramid. The guy below relies on the guy above, and above and above and that's why the whole world relies on the king. The king has no one above him, so he has to rely on the people at large, who are above him in a way, because ultimately, they can overthrow the king. But David Hamelech realizes that there's something above him. That's why in this case we call it the Hesed Elyon , the kindness of the Highest One . Because the king has no one above him but David Hamelech looks even higher and sees Hashem, who is the One that can control everything, regardless of his abilities. That's why the pasuk ends off with Bal Yimot. David Hamelech knows he'll never falter because he's relying on the hesed of Hashem, which also never falls. The Chatam Sofer in Bamidbar 9 ,23 says that of course David Hamelech relied on Hashem when he was small, when he was taking on Goliat. The hiddush is that after he became king, he didn't rely on his armies or his wealth, only on Hashem, unlike some people who only rely on Hashem when they're down. The sefer Tiferet Shlomo, in his Likutim on Shmuel , adds a further point. He says, as we just mentioned, the poor man has no choice but rely on the wealthy to rely on Hashem and not on his wealth, because he has no wealth. The king that could rely on his wealth and still relies on Hashem is a great Sidkut , and that's David Hamelech, who had all the wealth in the world and yet relied on Hashem. He cites the Zohar, that quotes from Rav Hamnuna Saba who would pray before he ate, even though he had a full table of food. It's brought down that everyone should do that-pray for their food every single day. Now the question is, what do you mean pray for my food? The food's on the table, I'm about to eat the food. There are people who say, Mizmor L'David, Hashem Ro'ee Lo Echsar before they eat because in that we have the pasuk (23,5) Hashem sets my table… What does that mean? Don't I set the table? That's exactly the point here- to realize that even when you have it, it's Hesed Elyon- in a split second, it can disappear. This is really a big hiddush. When we have our health and our wealth and our happiness and our family and the shidduch, and we're sitting in our houses, the mortgages arepaid off, everything's fine, our family is around us, the Pesach bills have been paid…. And I say, I have to rely on Hashem for what I have this second because, as we say, Hashem is pumping energy into everything every single second. There's nothing that's just here, it's here because it's Hashem's want that we should have it right now. And that's what David Hamelech understands. That's the greatness of David Hamelech. He's the king. And he relies on Hesed Elyon. And that's the only reason why bal yimot/he won't falter . We don't stress this enough. When I have the food, I have the car, I have the house, I have it all, what guarantees Bal Yimot ? What guarantees it will not falter ? That's why I need bitachon, even when I have everything. Because I don't really have anything- I need the constant Hesed Elyon. There are so many important pesukim, and that's why we're trying to review them. For those of you that haven't been following us for the past few years, we started with the list of Pesukei Bitachon of Rav Yosef Zundel of Salant, who also lists this pasuk, but stressed a different point- El Elyon, Gomel Hasadim Tovim . If you want a refresher on that, you can take a look at the book Daily Dose of Bitachon of Pesukim of Bitachon. Now we're on the Maharal's list. He also lists this pasuk , but with the Bal Yimot twist. There are endless beautiful thoughts to appreciate in any pasuk. The Melech, the king is Bote'ach b'Hessed Elyon. He's got it all, but he still knows I need Hesed Elyon. Otherwise I might falter. Finally, the word Elyon means above and the root of the word Yimot is Mat , which is go down. So we can either be above or below . We could be on the top or the bottom of the Ferris wheel, but even if you're all the way up on the top, you could still hit the bottom. That's the nature of the Ferris wheel. But again, David Hamelech is Bote'ach B'Hashem. Have a wonderful day.
Vis dažniau gimnazijų administracijos drąsina akademiškai pažangiausius vyresniųjų klasių moksleivius pagelbėti silpniau besimokantiems ir kitokios pagalbos nesulaukiantiems bendramoksliams suprasti matematikos, fizikos, chemijos, IT bei kitų disciplinų temas. Ved. I may not have mentioned that the Pesukim of Bitachon that we're currently going through, as listed by the Maharal of Prague, are based on alphabetical order. The previous list of pesukim that we went through, from Rabbi Yosef of Salant, were based on the order of the Tanach , in case people are wondering what the method to the madness is. While we're on the topic, I'd like to share that with Hashem's help, we put out a new book with Artscroll called Daily Dose of Pesukim of Bitachon, which has over 120 lessons cultivated and curated from the classes that we've been giving for the past few years on Pesukim . If anybody wants to have it in a book style, it's a wonderful thing to learn and a wonderful gift. You can either go to Artscroll.com or we will post a link on the chat when available B'Ezrat Hashem. Our Pasuk of the day is from Mishleh 14,26 בְּיִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הֹוָה מִבְטַח־עֹ֑ז וּ֝לְבָנָ֗יו יִהְיֶ֥ה מַחְסֶֽה׃ With fear of Hashem, there is a guaranteed strength, and for his children there is refuge. Rabbenu Yonah, in his sefer Derashot Al HaTorah on Parashat Vayehi, quotes this pasuk and explains that normally when a person is fearful, he doesn't have Bitachon. Fear is the opposite of Bitachon. But there's one exception: Fear of Hashem brings Bitachon to the one that fears Him. Fear normally means you're afraid of a lion, a tiger or bear, but when you're afraid of God , that means you know that He's in charge. That fear brings reliance. He says the Bitachon of Yirat Hashem is not just reliance that something negative won't happen, it's Mivtach Oz. You're in a protective spot . It gives you strength. Strength is the ability to accomplish things. It's not just a protection that nothing bad will happen. It's something that gives you the positive strength to go forward . And not only will Yirat Hashem be a protection and a power for you , but it will also be a merit to be a refuge for your children. Rabbenu Yonah, an early Rishon, also makes the point that we've said many a times that the term Machseh/ refuge is less than bitachon. Bitachon is an actual guarantee. That means you were given a guarantee, whereas the term refuge means you seek refuge in that force. Rabbenu Yonah continues to explain this pasuk with a juxtaposition of the next two Pesukim. Fear of Hashem is a source of life itself. Yirat Hashem is not only going to give you bitachon, which is protection and success, but this Yirat Hashem is the source of life itself. And as we've said in the past, Yirat Hashem is bitachon, so that means bitachon is the source of life. The next pasuk says, בְּרׇב־עָ֥ם הַדְרַת־מֶ֑לֶךְ With a lot of people, there's glory to the King. What is the connection? He says this man who fears God and has Bitachon has no fear of anybody, because of his bitachon. “ Yirat Hashem means “ Yes, I fear God, and I fear no one else,” because as he says, “ The one with fear of God is not afraid of any creature because of his reliance on Hashem. ” But he adds that Shlomo Hamelech is contrasting this man with other people, even to a king. He says, “ B'Rov Am Hadrat Melech The king's glory is with a lot of people around him .” He may be a king, but he still needs to have his entourage, whereas the one who fears Hashem doesn't need anybody . He could be all alone and his bitachon is there and he's protected. Rabbenu Yonah on Mishleh says the same thing, that the one that fears Hashem is more guaranteed and more serene than the king, because the one who fears God and his reliance is not dependent on people, but the reliance of the king is dependent on people, as it says B'Rov Am Hadrat Melech So Baruch Hashem, we have found, in Rabbenu Yonah's Derashot Al HaTorah, a new understanding of this pasuk בְּיִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הֹוָה מִבְטַח־עֹ֑ז וּ֝לְבָנָ֗יו יִהְיֶ֥ה מַחְסֶֽה׃ -that for the one who fears Hashem, this fear of Hashem is a source of bitachon, and that bitachon is the source of life. Furthermore, that bitachon is more powerful than the bitachon of the king. The president, the king, they all need to have people around them, whereas the Bote'ach B'Hashem is guaranteed and safe all by himself.

Many moons ago, we did a series on Pesukei Bitachon, which are pesukim of bitachon gathered by different rabbis. The goal is to say them and strengthen our bitachon. There are segulot brought down, going back to the Maharal, that they used to say these pesukim when the Jews went out to war, for success in business, and the like. Even in contemporary times, I recently spoke to a successful businessman that told me that in his company, before they make any deals or deal with any challenges, all the workers know to say pesukei bitachon ; they say a pasuk three times and concentrate on it and they have many stories of success. The list that we originally used is based on Rav Yosef Zundel of Salant, in the order of Tanach. There's another list, brought down in the Sefer Taharat HaKodesh , by the Maharal, that goes in alphabetical order, which he says is easier to memorize. So this is going to be our new series, for however long it lasts. A pasuk a day keeps your depression away! We will start with tehilim perek Fortunate is the one that places Hashem as his reliance. He does not turn to the arrogant, and to people that are liars. The Sefer Avudarham , one of the Rishonim's commentary on Tefila, finds in all our prayers sources in Navi. Our siddur was written by the Anshei Knesset Hagedola, and they based it a lot on pesukim , and he tells us the sources. The blessing that we say every day of Mishan UMivtach L'Sadikim, which is the blessing of bitachon, ends with the words Mivtach L'Sadikim which comes from this pasuk in tehilim, אֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֣ם יְ֭הֹוָה מִבְטַח֑וֹ from the one who places Hashem as his reliance. The Kli Yakar ( Bereshit 41,41) is bothered by a question. Why does it say that he places Hashem as his reliance ? He relies on Hashem, not he places Hashem as his reliance. He explains by saying that normally in the way of the world, when a person has a certain quality that is above his friend, he is not interested in someone that's lower than him. He doesn't even talk about him. He's so high and lofty. That is the claim of the philosophers that said that God, due to his great high and exalted position, doesn't look down at this world to anything below the celestial beings. But it says, quoting Chana, “ Don't speak and say that God is high, high. No that's a mistake. Take that out of your lexicon. God knows exactly what's going on, and He's involved down here making everything happen. And therefore Hashem dwells down in the low people.” How did Hashem show this? In our Torah, there's an interesting concept called the milui , which means the fullness of a letter. It's a way to spell the letter. For example, an Alef is spelled Alef , Lamed , Peh Like ABCD is spelled Ay, Bee, Cee, Dee. There's a numerical value to it. Alef א ל פ has value of 91. The letter Bet ב is 412, and so on. The letters that have the smallest value are: Yud יוד -13 Heh הא 11 and Vav וו 12 And these smallest numerical values of our 22 letter alphabet are the three letters that God used to create His name. Because the rule is, as the Gemara in Masechet Megila says, wherever you find Hashem's greatness, you find His humility. So God in His greatness chose the yud and the heh and the vav , and the hey , (which we don't say together) the smallest of letters. Hashem wanted to show that in His name is going to be the proof to dispel that God does not humble Himself. God comes down and lowers Himself. And that's why we say יְ֭הֹוָה מִבְטַח֑וֹ Not in God, but Hashem's name itself is what gives me the ability to rely on Him. That is pasuk number one on the hit parade. Fortunate is the one makes Hashem his reliance. He makes Hashem his reliance because he realizes that Hashem is humble. It's interesting that the contrast of the pasuk says, He did not turn to the Rehavim- which refers to arrogant people and people that are liars. That's why this pasuk is a claim against Yosef. Why are you turning to ask the Wine Steward, who's arrogant? But according to this Kli Yakar, it's beautiful that we contrast God's humility to the arrogance of the other people that we want to rely on. The people that are arrogant aren't going to help you. They don't care about you. They're high and lofty, they're above you. So, to give us hizuk, we say, Realize you can rely on Hashem. It's not beneath Him to take care of your problems. And the other options, the other people that you might turn to, are people that are high and lofty. Have a wonderful day.

I think it's safe to say that the person who has the toughest job in the world right now is President Joe Biden. How do you support your allies, allocate funds and war effort on multiple fronts, and prevent World War 3 all while maintaining order? The answer: It's probably impossible. Meanwhile, the United States of America is 1 year away from another big election. This election will be a flashpoint in American history and will impact the future indefinitely. These are factors that the president and his constituents in office are also thinking about. Reporting on these matters first-hand is award-winning journalist and writer Jonathan Salant. Salant possesses a long history of delivering the news, providing intellectual perspectives, and giving in-depth account to the matters happening within our government. With everything happening in Israel, our congress is challenged to take on bi-partisan views while maintaining the competition of election season that next year warrants. Salant gives Chaz Volk, host of Bad Jew, a detailed analysis on what is happening while providing his own predictions on tomorrow. About Jonathan Salant: Jonathan D. In the previous class, we spoke about being real in Bitachon and the danger of sometimes talking the talk, but not walking the walk when it comes to bitachon. Rav Yisrael Salantar was once giving a class on the topic of bitachon, and a man in the audience approached him and said, “ Rabbi, I'm going to stop working. I'm going to buy a lottery ticket and have full trust in Hashem that I'm going to win. Is that okay?” “ Sure,” the Rabbi said. Then, the day before the drawing, Rav Yisrael approached the man and offered to purchase the ticket at a price much lower than what the man could possibly win. The man happily agreed (Imagine if it were a million dollar lottery, and Rav Yisrael offered him $10,000) Rav Yisrael told him, “ Then you don't have real bitachon. If you really believed that Hashem was making you win, you would not have sold a ticket to me for the lower price.” So again, it's easy to fool oneself. Someone recently told me that they had real bitachon that their critically ill friend would get better, but the friend didn't get better. I said it was hard for me to believe. I asked if they would be willing to bet a million dollars that this person would get better. Probably not, they said. So, you can't tell me that you were 100% convinced that the person was getting better. Like we said, t's not an easy task. You can talk about bitachon when it's not applicable. Of course, it's easy when it's theoretical. But, although, as we said, bitachon is a service to the heart, we should not disregard talking about bitachon as if it's not helpful. The more you speak about bitachon, the stronger it will be established in your heart. It's brought down in the Yerushalmi Masechet Berachot, that the following pasuk should never leave your lips: ה ׳ צְבָא֑וֹת אַֽשְׁרֵ֥י אָ֝דָ֗ם בֹּטֵ֥חַ בָּֽךְ Hashem Sevaot Ashrei Adam Bote'ach Bach Hashem, God of hosts, happy is the man that trusts in You What does it mean that it this should never leave your lips? Rav Avraham Erlanger explains that our Hachamim teaching us that although Bitachon is in the heart, the way the strengthen one's Bitachon is through constantly speaking about it. That's what the Chazal mean when they say the verse should never leave your lips. The Sefer Mishpat Sedek says that the Maharal encourages a person to say certain pesukim in order to train himself in that area. In the back of the Bet Halevi on Bitachon ( ArtScroll) book, there's a list of pesukei Bitachon that were brought down and collected by Rav Yosef Zundel of Salant, the teacher of Rav Yisrael Salantar. There is a definite benefit in having these words of Bitachon on your lips, and the Maharal suggests that after you say these Pesukei Bitachon, you should pray for bitachon. If you have the ArtScroll edition of the Bet Halevi on Bitachon, you can go to page 180, where there is a beautiful, ancient prayer brought down in the sefer Margaliot Tovot from Rabbi Yaakov Tzahalon of Italy. Additionally, there is a famous explanation, which is not the simple pshat , of , He'Emanti Ki Edaber. It can be understood as, “ I believe because I speak. ” The more I speak about bitachon, the more I believe. So, we can actually pray for bitachon. Give reward to those that rely on You in truth . Why in truth ? Because not everyone has true bitachon. And what should I do if I really don't have that level? And the answer is, if you try to have Bitachon, Hashem will help you. Rav Shimon Schwab says that this is the meaning of the pasuk Baruch Hagever Asher Yivtach B'Hashem V'Haya Hashem Mivtacho Blessed is the person who relies on Hashem, then Hashem will be his security. That means if you try your best to have bitachon, then Hashem will be your security. He will come through and help you get to that level of bitachon. That's what we're trying to do, trying to constantly work on, and talk to ourselves about bitachon. Have a wonderful day.
Let's play "Put A Finger Down". Put a finger down if you've had to unfriend people from your life for only listening to one side of the conflict. Put a finger down if you've gotten into arguments in the comments section. Put a finger down if the buzzwords "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" have polluted your content. Put a finger down if your friends still don't understand why commenting "free Palestine" is antisemitic. Put a finger down if you've been accused of committing genocide. Jews are not only targeted in the war happening in Israel. Jews are caught up in 3 wars right now: There's the literal war, the spiritual war, and the informational war. If someone is not earning the money he needs from his current job, does that mean that he should look for a new job or perhaps take on a second job? The answer is, if it makes sense for him to earn the money that he needs from his current job, in his current hours, then he does not need to change a thing. The Chovot HaLevavot writes in this instance, the person has an opportunity to show his emunah and tell Hashem, he knows He is in charge of parnasa and He is giving him exactly what He knows is best for him to have at this moment. He can then trust that, going forward, Hashem is going to take care of him in the best way possible for his purpose in this world. The rule in hishtadlut is, as Rav Zundel from Salant said, our hishtadlut is just necessary to camouflage Hashem so it doesn't appear like we are being supported through a miracle. Once we have done that, we have fulfilled our part. However, Rabbi Dessler writes, if a person will attribute his lack of funds because of an insufficient hishtadlut , that would be a severe blemish in emunah, and we don't want that to happen. And therefore, he says, everyone has to look deep into themselves and make an honest assessment at his level of emunah. If in an instance that he wouldn't be earning as much as he needs, he would second guess the amount of effort he is putting in, then he may need to do more. He needs to find the level of effort where he will be comfortable saying, “I definitely did enough and if the money is not coming, it is only because that is what Hashem wants.” It is not ideal to put in more than necessary hishtadlut . And therefore, a person should work on his level of emunah to understand that Hashem doesn't need his help to give him more money. But until he gets there, he may need to do more than he is doing at the moment. The higher the level of emunah a person has, the less hishtadlut he will need to do. Rav Shimshon Pinkus, zatzal , once received a letter from somebody who asked him three questions. #1. Would it be a lack of bitachon to add an extra deadbolt lock to his door? #2. Would it be a lack of bitachon to send his wife out to work to help support the family? #3. Would it be a lack of bitachon to put in extra hours of work? Rabbi Pinkus said he knew this man was very religious and there was no doubt that if the answer was not to put the extra lock, he wouldn't. The problem is, he would be making that decision not out of genuine bitachon in Hashem, but rather because the Rabbi told him to do so. It would not be because he truly felt that Hashem could protect him without the locks. However, it is not magic, as though by not putting on a lock on the door that will ensure that no burglars will come. If one honestly believes that Hashem controls the world, including the burglars, and he feels comfortable and secure with Hashem's protection, then he would not need to even ask the question to begin with because it would be obvious to him that Hashem doesn't need an extra lock to protect him. Of course, Hashem can support a person without him putting in any extra hours, but if that person doesn't feel comfortable and secure about it, and it is not obvious that Hashem is caring for him, then he is not yet on the level of benefiting from this especially close relationship with Hashem. This is a feeling that must be developed within a person and not something he is told to do. I read a story of a man who sold sefarim in Bnei Brak. The man had a sterling reputation and did enough business to support his family. However, when his son was getting married, he needed to contribute a certain amount towards the purchase of an apartment for him. His share was tens of thousands of shekels, which he did not possess. The day was approaching where he had to pay to secure the apartment. He decided to close his store early and he opened a Tehillim, and he begged Hashem to send help. A short while later, someone started knocking on his door. He continued saying Tehillim but the knocking was getting louder and louder, so he went to see who it was, maybe it was an emergency. When he opened the door, he saw a chassid , who introduced himself as a visitor from America. He urgently needed to order an enormous amount of sefarim for the new Bet Midrash that they were opening in America. He had gone to consult with a certain rav in Bnei Brak to see who he should purchase the sefarim from and he was sent to him. He also said he was ready to pay for the entire order up front. That money was enough to cover this man's share to the contractor for the apartment. The man could have asked for help from a loan gemach or other ways, but instead he turned solely to Hashem with real emunah, believing he did not need anyone else's assistance. He had a special relationship with Hashem, which he developed over time and because of that relationship Hashem granted him extraordinary help. This feeling of closeness to Hashem can be attained by everyone and, b'ezrat Hashem, Hashem should help us all attain it.

Rabbi Yisrael Salanter was once traveling by train from Salant to Vilna. He was in the smoking car, holding a lit cigarette. In those days, it was accepted to smoke cigarettes. It was considered healthy. A young man started complaining about the odor of the smoke. Other passengers were appalled. After all, they were in the smoking car. Despite that, Rabbi Salanter extinguished the cigarette and opened the train's window to dissipate the fumes. A few seconds later, the young man closed the window and yelled at the elderly sage for opening it. This was the height of chutzpah, that shouldn't be done to any elderly man, let alone the Gadol HaDor. Rabbi Salanter apologized to the man young for making him cold, and buried himself in a Jewish book of law. Upon arriving in Vilna, the young man was horrified to see throngs of people gathered to receive one of Europe's most prominent Rabbis. The man immediately ran to the home where Rabbi Salanter was staying to beg forgiveness. “Don't worry,” explained Reb Yisrael, “a trip can make one edgy. I bear no ill will. Tell me,” continued the mussar master, “why did you come to Vilna?” The young man explained that he was looking to become an ordained shochet , and an approbation from a Vilna rabbi would be universally accepted. Rabbi Salanter smiled. “My own son-in-law, Reb Elya Lazer, can test you. He is a Rav in Vilna. Rest up and tomorrow you can take the test. The next day, it was apparent that the man needed more than rest, for he failed miserably. However, that did not deter Rabbi Salanter. He encouraged the man to try again. For the next several weeks, Rabbi Yisrael arranged for tutors and prepared the young man well enough to pass Reb Elya Lazer's make-up exam along with the tests of a host of other well-known Vilna rabbis. He even arranged for the man to get a job. Before leaving Vilna, the man appeared before Reb Yisrael with tears in his eyes. “Tell me, Rebbe,” he cried. “I was able to understand that you could forgive me for my terrible arrogance on the train. But why did you help me so much? That, I can never understand.” “Reb Yisrael sat him down, held his hand and explained. “It is easy to say ‘I forgive you'. But deep down, how does one really know if he still bears a grudge? Way down in my heart, I actually was not sure. The only way to remove a grudge is to take action. One who helps another develops a love for the one he aided. By helping you, I created a true love which is overwhelmingly more powerful than the words, ‘I forgive you'.” Recently my dear friend Aaron Moses from Hollywood, Florida mentioned that Chacham David Yosef was in town. Between Mincha and Arbit, he told this story and related it to the Parasha: Why did Yosef Hasadik take such good care of his brothers in Mitzrayim? The Torah stresses this. Wouldn't it be enough just forgive them? He applied this story of Rav Yisrael Salantar and said that it was because Yosef wanted to make sure that his grudge was truly gone. Therefore, he went to great extremes in order to make sure that he forgave them wholeheartedly. This goes along with the approach that Yosef did forgive his brothers wholeheartedly, as we mentioned in a previous class. Have a wonderful day.

Recorded just as the polls closed during the runoff elections in Georgia, USA, we bring back Dr. Nathan Schwartz-Salant for his insightful take on how an individual must stand one's ground during times of chaos and uncertainty. The late Dr. Nathan Schwartz-Salant, a prominent Jungian analyst, in this interview from February 8, 2020, on the eve of the New Hampshire primaries, offers a way for us to 'stand our ground' during these uncertain times, how to embrace the darkness of the collective psyche. His insight and analysis is perfect for Dr. Schwartz-Salant is a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology {IAAP} and has been practicing as a Jungian analyst for almost fifty years. His first book, Narcissism and Character Transformation: The Psychology of Narcissistic Character Disorders, published by Inner City Books in 1982, is a classic in the Jungian field. Recently, he contributed the chapter "Healthy Presidential Narcissism: Is That Possible?" for the popular book, A Clear and Present Danger: Narcissism in the Era of Donald Trump, that came out during the 2016 presidential campaign.Thank you to Dr. Schwartz-Salant for your incredible insight and advice to those finding themselves at dis-ease during these maddening times. We are happy to announce the very first interactive version of Living Emunah Click this link and add Promo Code RYB to receive a special 20% discount https://www.artscroll.com/ Books/9781422627228.html A big question that people often ask is how much hishtadlut do I have to put in to have fulfilled my part? This applies to business, shidduchim , doctors and many more areas. Rav Zundel of Salant formulated a rule as follows: We need to put in our efforts because Hashem will not make an open miracle to provide our needs, but once we’ve done enough so that it looks normal to receive what we need through the regular way of the world, then we have fulfilled out part. The main thing is to remember that we are not the ones bringing about results. All we do is open the pipeline for Hashem to send them. The more a person recognizes Hashem’s involvement in his hishtadlut , the more effective his hishtadlut will be. It is easy to say that we believe that Hashem is the One in control, but it is much harder to actually put it into action. A student of mine, who we’ll call Joe, told me that recently his phone suddenly malfunctioned and all of the data that he had stored on it was no longer accessible. He had literally every piece of information to run his business on that phone and, without it, he was in big trouble. He remembered seeing an ad in a Jewish periodical of someone who knows how to retrieve data from broken phones. He looked into in and called the man who happened to be a religious Jew. The man listened to the issue and said it would cost $500 for him to do that job. Joe said, “Okay, great, no problem. Could I come now to your office?” The man replied, “Yes.” When Joe arrived, the man looked at the phone a little closer and he diagnosed the problem. He said, “I have to let you know, there is a chance that all of your data will get erased when I try to save it. But I do know someone else who can do this job guaranteed 100%, but he charges $1900 for it.” Joe then asked this man a couple of questions regarding his abilities in this field. The man said he has a lot of experience, but this particular issue is very complicated and there is a risk involved. With complete emunah in Hashem, Joe told this man, “I believe that Hashem is completely in charge of results. All I have to do is put in my normal hishtadlut . Bringing the phone to someone like yourself and paying $500 to do this job is a very normal hishtadlut . Paying someone else almost $2000 for the guarantee is beyond normal hishtadlut. I’m going with you.” Once again, the man told him, “I’m warning you. You are running a risk. You could lose all the information you need for your business.” Again Joe repeated, “This is a normal hishtadlut and that’s all that is required of me. If Hashem wants me to have my data back, I'll get it through you.” The man said, “Okay.” He took the phone and he went to work. The next day he called him back and, baruch Hashem, he was happy to say that he was successful with the very complicated job and got back every last bit of information. He then told Joe, “In all of my years of experience, I never heard anyone speaking with emunah like you before. I’m truly impressed. Thank you for the lesson you have taught me. It’s one thing to say, ‘I believe Hashem is in control,’ but it’s another thing to actually put it into practice.” Hashem is in full control of every endeavor we set out to accomplish. We do need to make an effort, but only a normal effort. Sometimes there may be gray areas and we can consult with Rabbis on how to proceed. The more we recognize it is all Hashem, the better we’ll be doing our part.
Rav Zundel of Salant wrote a letter to his son when he told him to go to chutz l’aretz to help out his sister. To paraphrase that letter, he told him “never feel bad if your travel plans don’t work according to schedule, " כי כל עקבה לטובה – every delay or detour is for the best. Wherever Hashem leads you is the place He wants you to be. רבות מחשבות בלב איש ועצת ה' היא תקום . Man may have many plans, but Hashem is the one who decides the outcomes. מה' מצעדי גבר כוננו – Hashem determines where our footsteps take us – ואדם מה יבין דרכו . We might think we know where we’re headed, but Hashem may have a completely different plan for us. The Rabbi added, everything is determined by Hashem, where we are, what time we’ll be there, how long we’ll be there for and which people we’ll meet there. Never be worried or sad because Hashem is always in control and always doing everything for our best.” Simple words of chizuk from a great sage to his son, which I’m sure helped him immensely. We live these concepts in our own lives on a daily basis. Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein told two stories which illustrate this point. A man told him he was walking in the street one day when he passed a flower shop. Suddenly he felt a strong urge to go in and buy flowers for his sister who became a widow early on that year. On the one hand, he felt it’s a little strange to send flowers out of nowhere on a regular weekday, but on the other hand, his gut feeling was telling him to do it anyway. So he went in and made an order and wrote out a card wishing his sister well. He asked them to deliver it. After his sister received the flowers that day, she called him practically in tears to thank him. She said, “Today is my birthday,” which he had no idea about, “and every year my husband would send me a present with a nice card wishing me well. Today when I woke up, I felt very down. I told Hashem, ‘Today’s my birthday and my husband is not with me. He’s not going to get me a present and he’s not going to send me a card. I’m reliving the whole experience again. Please help me!’ When I received your flowers and read your card, Hashem showed me He was listening to me and He’s with me. And that gave me so much chizuk . Thank you so much.” Her brother replied, “What you’re saying is the absolute truth, because out of nowhere I just felt an urge to go in and get you those flowers and write you that card. It was definitely coming from your loving Father, Hashem. The second story is about a man who lives in Romema. Once a week he has to travel to a different city to be at an appointment at 11:00 am, so he takes the 9:00 bus to make it on time. He’s always careful to be punctual. One day he missed the bus and was so upset at himself over it. He asked Hashem to please give him an idea so he wouldn’t have to miss his appointment. He remembered, there is someone in Ramot who travels to that city from time to time so he called him to see if he was going that day. The man said actually he was going and he was about to leave, he’d even come pick him up. He said, “Be ready at 9:30 sharp.” So he waited outside from 9:27 just to be safe, and then it became 9:37 and 9:40 and he still didn’t arrive. Finally, at 9:45, he pulled up and explained why he was late. He said, “At 9:29 I was just a couple of blocks away from you when a call went out to all Hatzalah members saying whoever is near a certain location should go immediately. At that moment, I was practically right in front of the house, so I went in. A child had swallowed an object and wasn’t breathing. I was able to get it out. Because of the traffic, no one else from Hatzalah showed up there for another 9 minutes. If I wasn’t there at that time, the results could have been catastrophic. מצוה גוררת מצוה . I came here to give you a ride and Hashem led me to do another good deed, saving someone’s life.” When that first man got upset for missing the bus that day, he had no idea he was part of a much bigger master plan of Hashem to have that Hatzalah member outside that house at that perfect time. If we could remind ourselves we’re always being led by Hashem, we’ll be able to react the proper way when we experience what appears to be setbacks.

Linda Salant is a long-term carnivore who has been a follower of the zero-carb carnivore diet since April 2015. Linda has been quietly and steadily continuing her path of maintaining and improving her health. She hopes that sharing her experience and knowledge will help to dispel current myths and trends that persist around the nutrition, sustainability, and ethics of eating a meat-based diet. Linda graduated from Cornell University in 1997, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Human Ecology. She has used the carnivore diet to reverse her amenorrhea and PCOS, alleviate anxiety, and eliminate daily migraines. She has seen continued suppression of edema from CVI (chronic venous insufficiency) and has found the elimination of near-constant pain from interstitial cystitis to be life-changing. More recently, she has seen how the combination of fasting and the carnivore diet has been effective in relieving the pain, bruising, and additional symptoms associated with the lipedema she has been dealing with since her 20s. If you think this episode is making a statement about my personal political preferences with this photo you're HIGHLY mistaken. Like me, if you're actually breathing, you know that the collective consciousness of the US political landscape is deeply divided. What's the old saying? War is not healthy for children and other living things? How does the current political divisiveness affect you? Does it raise your heart rate when you hear the detritus of political squabbling blurt out of your tv or radio? Well, here's a bit of help from a prominent Jungian analyst, Dr. Nathan Schwartz-Salant. Let's call it a modern day survival guide for those of us wondering if there's light at the end of the tunnel. I interviewed him recently asking him to shed some light on the state of affairs, and how we can keep our feet on the ground when it appears that the world has lost its mind. One thing for sure, is that this is a changing time. As Americans look to find suitable candidates to elect as president, our times have become turbulent and divisive. How does all of this impact the individual? Can individuals hold their center together as the world appears to be crumbling around them? This episode is for them, for you, for me!The collective psyche of the American society is fracturing. One needs only to be breathing to see that the divisiveness is completely restructuring who we, as a nation, are becoming. This divisiveness has also caused great internal distress with millions of individuals who are upset by the seemingly senseless actions of not only the president but by the politicians on both the left and the right. This episode is for those people, as well as our many listeners from other countries watching with great interest to the slow motion train wreck. In episode 30 we welcome Dr. Nathan Schwartz-Salant, a prominent Jungian analyst, offers a way for us to 'stand our ground' during these uncertain times, how to embrace the darkness of the collective psyche. Regular listeners and readers will remember the moment when Antshares rebranded to NEO last year. NEO is China's first ever original and open source public chain project, NEO serves as a smart assets platform. Smart assets are the combination of smart contract of blockchain and digital assets. NEO also allows for a smarter way for assets registration, issuance, and circulation. Digital assets exist in the form of electronic data and with blockchain technology, digital assets becomes decentralized, trustless, traceable and highly transparent. NEO's underlying technology supports multiple types of digital assets and uses digital certificates to enable trust for public chain, namely the assets issued by users via digital certificate are protected by law. For more complicated scenarios, users can use smart contracts to enhance and enrich the functions of assets. Besides, users can also create smart contracts with other functions unrelated to assets. Smart contract, a concept that was first initiated by Nick Sazbo in 1994, has a history as long as that of the Internet. According to Nick Szabo: Smart contract can execute contract clauses when the preprogrammed conditions are met.It is blockchain technology, due to its decentralization, immutability and highly reliable system that provides the very environment for smart contract to embody its value. On my daily tech podcast, I am on a mission to learn more about how technology is transforming multiple industries in every corner of our ever-shrinking world. Rather than focussing on the buzzwords, I wanted to find out more about the impact Blockchain is having in Asia and also how it is reshaping developing countries. I also wanted to learn more about the women making big waves in Blockchain and the evolution (so far) in the space. However, we cannot have a conversation about blockchain or crypto without exploring where mainstream adoption of these technologies are coming from. On today's tech and crypto podcast, I speak with Tamar Salant, NEO Smart Economy- Global Business Development Manager to discuss these topics and using technology to make a difference.

Lauren shares how building community is at the center of her life and how the concept of a ‘conscious closet’ is something she wants to share with the world!
