It was a mind-blowing experience at the time, with 3D rendered graphics, actual music from the films, and full motion video. The controls were extremely frustrating, but that didn't stop my friends and I from playing it over and over. The next big Star Wars game that blew my mind was Shadows of the Empire for N64. The game had impressively large levels for the time, and I liked the variety in having both vehicle combat, on-foot 3rd person shooting, and some challenging boss fights. Again, the controls could be frustrating, particularly the floaty jumping physics, but Dan and I played the crap out of this one. Last game I'll shout out is Jedi Outcast. I feel like this was the first game that really made the player feel like a badass Jedi with really powerful Force and lightsaber abilities. I actually ended up playing this one on the GameCube, which probably isn't the ideal way to experience it, but I really enjoyed it. Growing up with limited resources, and in an underserved household, shaped her perspective on advocating for the underserved.  Dr. Banuelos Mota obtained her bachelor's degree in American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. She then worked in the non-profit field for several years while she completed her pre-medical requirements at the California State University, Northridge. Andrea obtained her Doctor of Medicine and Master's in Public Health degrees from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. And her completed her residency at the UCLA Santa Monica Family Medicine Residency.  Aside from a career providing primary care to diverse patients Andrea plans on dedicating her career to increasing the number of minority physicians. She also plans on engaging in efforts dedicated towards payment reform in primary care to make primary care more sustainable and efficient for both physicians and patients. Dr. Banuelos Mota is excited to remain engaged in the CAFP throughout her career. Outside of work, Dr. Banuelos Mota enjoys spending weekends with her family, including her husband,  two children and mom.  Michael Core, MD was born and raised in East Los Angeles. Dr. Core's mission is to empower economically oppressed communities through the practice of medicine. Dr. Core's career remains rooted in serving his community, practicing across the spectrum of safety net settings in Los Angeles County: county health system, FQHCs, educational and private non-profit medical groups. Dr. Core currently serves as a Regional Medical Director for AltaMed Health Services, the nation's largest Federally Qualified Health Center, for their Metro and South Los Angeles regions. In this role, Dr. Core helps oversee clinical operations, finances and quality to a medically and socially complex patient population. Prior to joining AltaMed, Dr. Core served as a Regional Medical Director for Healthcare In Action, a private non-profit Street Medicine medical group, delivering compassionate, patient-led care to people experiencing homelessness across Los Angeles. Outside of his clinical roles Dr. Core serves on the American Academy of Family Physician (AAFP) Commission for Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness in Family Medicine; working collaboratively to ensure the work of the AAFP is carried on with a DEI and antiracism lens to help close health disparities. As a member of the LAAFP, Dr. Core has served as a delegate at CAFP's AMAM and has lobbied his legislators at the annual Lobby Day. New episode out now! We take a semi-detour to a galaxy far, far away with the season three episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, “Sphere of Influence”. We debate the role of the Jedi within the Republic and talk about how they serve as diplomats, law enforcement, security, advisors, monks, or investigators whenever the need arises. We discuss how this show is for children and therefore the “mystery” is highly simplified, think the tone can swing wildly between Saturday Morning Cartoon and complicated political intrigue, pick apart the sequel trilogy at length, and are mildly amused by the George Lucas self-insert character. We also talk about bonkers Star Wars nomenclature, think it is interesting that this episode dealt with the blocking of trade routes and frustration with a slow democratic process, and lament the oversaturation and corporatization of Star Wars media as a whole. Katy forgot about LEGOs, Carrie is haunted by images of dismemberment, Maddy has a skeleton friend, and Mack does a lot of explaining (and justifying). We also are very confused by the abundance of mismatched accents, touch on the topic of gender in a galaxy full of different alien species, discuss how sci-fi / fantasy mysteries are harder to judge as they have different rules, and Mack runs a mini-game where we try to differentiate between real and fake character names.
