Worst Vacation Spots in Star Wars Todd Hoffman and Carla Giacalone/Coffey kick back for a fun, nerdy Cantina Chat about the absolute worst places to spend a vacation in the Star Wars galaxy. It starts with a personal update from Carla on her recent wedding and upcoming Lord of the Rings honeymoon, then shifts into a playful planet-by-planet debate over which worlds are too hot, too wet, too buggy, or too dangerous to ever book. Key topics In this episode: Carla shares wedding highlights, including the Camp Sacagoia venue in New Jersey, R2-D2 at the reception, and walking down the aisle to Princess Leia's theme. Todd and Carla talk about Carla's delayed honeymoon to New Zealand, where she'll take a Lord of the Rings tour through filming locations. The conversation turns to Star Wars vacation planning, with Mustafar and Exegol quickly emerging as top-tier nightmare destinations. Hoth gets compared to extreme winter travel, with discussion of blizzards, emergency Wampa insurance, and the appeal of cold versus heat. Tatooine comes up as the rare planet with enough civilization to survive a trip, despite the sand, the sun, and the constant danger. Dagobah is treated as a hard no for its swamp conditions, bugs, and general "Florida but worse" vibe. Geonosis, Kessel, Felucia, and Exegol are each framed as terrible choices for different reasons, from language barriers to poison mushrooms to Sith cult energy. The hosts compare how bad a long trip would be next to villains like Darth Vader, General Grievous, or Jabba the Hutt. They close the vacation debate by choosing the "least bad" nightmare trip and agreeing that Tatooine is probably the safest bad option. Carla also gives an honorable mention to Wobani from Rogue One as a place nobody would want on a vacation itinerary. Timestamps: 00:00 - Todd opens the show and tees up the "worst vacation spots in Star Wars" idea 02:21 - Carla's wedding recap and why the venue felt like it belonged in a fantasy world 04:41 - R2-D2 joins the wedding celebration with champagne and dancing 05:30 - Walking down the aisle to Princess Leia's theme 06:33 - Why Carla and Brian delayed the honeymoon until New Zealand 07:04 - A Lord of the Rings tour through filming locations and why it may be emotionally overwhelming 09:39 - Carla's married name and the "decaf" joke that keeps following her 11:56 - Todd's family updates, school starting, and football season returning 14:07 - Carla teases the news items before the main topic 15:03 - Why the hosts think Star Wars has great vacation potential and terrible vacation potential 16:00 - Mustafar versus Exegol as instant refusal destinations 18:22 - How they would rate a Star Wars destination using danger, weather, food, and accommodations 20:37 - Why Mustafar sounds like a place with no good tourism infrastructure 22:25 - Hoth as the extreme cold-weather option and why Norway inspired it 24:15 - Wampa insurance, and the debate over freezing versus melting 25:38 - Why Tatooine is still strangely livable compared with the other nightmare planets 28:42 - Dagobah as swamp hell, bug central, and possible poison-water disaster 32:36 - Geonosis as a language-barrier and execution-risk vacation spot 34:01 - Kessel and the worst possible souvenir from the mines 35:18 - Felucia's mushroom-covered scenery and the danger of touching anything 36:55 - Exegol as an unusable honeymoon location with constant lightning and cult energy 38:00 - Which planet would have the worst hotel and worst spaceport 39:08 - Which planet would have the most dishonest vacation brochure 40:57 - The worst villain to sit next to on a hyperspace flight 43:44 - The difference between dangerous, gross, and truly unlivable family vacation spots 45:45 - Exegol and Camino as terrible honeymoon or relaxing-trip options 48:52 - Choosing the least awful free seven-day vacation: Tatooine 53:23 - Carla's honorable mention: Wobani from Rogue One 55:07 - News item 1: The Saga Begins and Weird Al's Star Wars legacy 58:25 - News item 2: A Star Wars Starfighter leak and a strange new creature 61:27 - News item 3: Star Wars Galactic Racer and the return of pod-racing nostalgia 71:07 - Outro, socials, email, and a call for listener feedback Notable quotes: "I walked down the aisle to Princess Leia's theme." WSTR Galactic Public Access: Queen Jamilla, Star Wars News, and Convention Rants This episode starts with a deep look at Queen Jamilla, a brief but meaningful Naboo leader in Attack of the Clones, and uses her to explore Naboo politics, democracy, and how Star Wars makes even tiny characters feel important. Todd also covers a few Star Wars news items, then wraps with personal updates on Fortnite, Fan Expo Chicago, and the challenges of crowded convention venues. Key topics Todd explains who Queen Jamilla is A Naboo monarch with less than two minutes of screen time, but enough presence to spark a long character discussion. He walks through her role as Queen Amidala's successor and her place in the prequel-era timeline. Why Queen Jamilla matters despite limited screen time Todd argues that even minor political figures help Star Wars feel like a lived-in galaxy. He connects Jamilla's short appearance to the larger sense of Naboo continuity and political realism. Naboo politics and democratic idealism Jamilla's line about keeping faith in the Republic becomes the core theme of the segment. Todd contrasts her trust in institutions with Amidala's more experienced, harder-earned political perspective. Jamilla's relationship to Padmé Amidala Todd reads Jamilla as someone seeking advice and guidance from a respected predecessor. Their interaction is framed as mutual trust, with Padmé representing experience and Jamilla representing idealism. The threat of war in the background The discussion touches on the growing separatist crisis and the early signs of the Clone Wars. Todd views Jamilla as somewhat sheltered from the galaxy's larger collapse, which shapes her optimism. Naboo's social structure and leadership Todd questions the age and selection of Naboo's queens, noting the youth of both Padmé and Jamilla. He suggests Naboo could have benefited from more integration, especially between humans and Gungans. Why Star Wars includes brief political characters Todd says these characters show that life continues outside the main heroes. He connects this to how the franchise builds scale, realism, and background texture. News of the week: Star Wars: Starfighter Todd covers reporting that the new film was inspired by The Outsiders. He highlights the gritty, loyalty-driven tone and the pairing of a rugged older lead with a younger companion. News of the week: canceled Mandalorian versus Jedi game He reacts to the leaked gameplay and fan disappointment over another canceled Star Wars title. Todd compares it to other scrapped projects and laments how often promising games never release. News of the week: Ewan McGregor wants back in Todd discusses McGregor pitching ideas for more Obi-Wan content while on the set of Ahsoka. He suggests flashback storytelling could be a smart way to bring Obi-Wan into future projects. Cantina Chat: Fortnite and Fan Expo Chicago Todd talks about collecting 118 sprites in Fortnite and enjoying the new season called Override. He also shares a strong opinion that the Rosemont Convention Center is overcrowded and not as good as C2E2. Timestamps 00:00 - Welcome to episode 442 and the show's mission of positivity and Star Wars 02:03 - Who Queen Jamilla is and why a brief character still matters 04:23 - Jamilla's connection to Padmé Amidala and the Naboo political transition 06:49 - What Naboo's leadership system says about age, authority, and democracy 08:16 - Why Queen Jamilla is important even with limited screen time 09:15 - Jamilla's reaction to the separatist threat and her faith in the Republic 11:11 - Is Jamilla seeking advice, mentorship, or both from Padmé? 13:02 - Jamilla's trust in the system versus Padmé's hard-earned political realism 14:29 - Naboo's peace contrasted with the wider chaos of the galaxy 15:27 - Why Star Wars uses brief political leaders to make the galaxy feel larger 17:26 - Why Padmé is the stronger leader in Todd's view 18:26 - What Jamilla might realistically do against Palpatine's rise 19:51 - Why even small characters like Jamilla deepen the worldbuilding 20:48 - What Todd would change about Naboo leadership and Gungan representation 22:46 - Closing thoughts on spending 20 minutes on two minutes of screen time 23:12 - Star Wars: Starfighter and its inspiration from The Outsiders 25:06 - Fan reaction to the canceled Mandalorian versus Jedi game 27:30 - Ewan McGregor pitching more Obi-Wan stories to Dave Filoni 31:17 - Personal updates, including Carla's wedding and Heather's cat mom life 31:45 - Collecting 118 Fortnite sprites and getting into the new season 33:00 - Fan Expo Chicago, crowded halls, and why Rosemont is not Todd's favorite venue 35:55 - Listener callouts, social channels, and how to send feedback 36:51 - Possible future episode topics, including Transformers 37:20 - Sign-off and closing Notable quotes "We must keep our faith in the Republic." HIGHLIGHTS • The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer offers fresh clues about Victor Von Doom, his lost family, and his plans for the multiverse. • Jim reports from D23 on Marvel's TVA-style experience, Doom's throne room, and a detailed blueprint of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. • Marvel reveals a new X-Men cast including Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Indy Navarrette, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. • Vision Quest brings White Vision face-to-face with manifestations of familiar MCU artificial intelligences, including JARVIS and Ultron. • Ahsoka Season 2 sets up Thrawn's war, Ahsoka's continuing questions about her Jedi identity, and new mysteries involving Baylan Skoll and the Mortis mythology. • Marvel and Star Wars collide in Hope Assembles, a five-issue comic series written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez. • Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca cross into Marvel's Earth-616, where heroes including Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Widow, and Hulk enter the fight. • Doctor Doom and Marvel villains join forces with Darth Vader and the Empire in a crossover that makes Patton Oswalt's legendary Parks and Recreation filibuster feel strangely prophetic. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes. At D23 last week, Disney's fan event showcasing much of their upcoming film and tv projects, we were at last treated to a full trailer for VisionQuest, which will debut October 14 on Disney+. The third and final installment of the trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along, VisionQuest looks like it will send us on a trippy ride with The Vision, played by Paul Bettany. Those of us angsting for Avengers: Doomsday story crumbs were also treated with a special look presented for the December blockbuster. The shorter trailer, which was first shown at San Diego Comic Con, starts with dialogue from Sue Storm, indicating our MCU Fantastic Four team is connected to Robert Downey, Jr.'s Victor von Doom. One of the most anticipated announcements in MCU history took place at D23, when Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige announced the cast of the upcoming X-Men film. The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will be playing the villainous Mr. Sinister. The movie will be released on May 5, 2028 nearly 10 years after the Disney acquisition of Fox Studios and will kick off the three MCU movies coming out in 2028. The other big nerd-dom announcement at D23 was the release of a first trailer for Ahsoka season 2, which will premiere on January 20, 2027, on Disney+. Lars Mikkelson's Thrawn returns as the big bad for the Rebel Alliance, while in a galaxy truly far, far, away, Ahsoka and Sabine battle themselves and mystic threats while coming face to face with what it means to be a Jedi. This look at the show may clue us in as to why the debut date got pushed to next year. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling were also at D23 where a clip from Star Wars: Starfighter was shown, but has not yet been released publicly.Peacock has released the first trailer for season 2 of The Office spin off The Paper. The full season drops on September 9. At D23, Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed to Deadline that Johnny Depp is in early talks to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in an upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. Sources also emphasize that Depp will serve as a side character, not a central character in the upcoming film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed the $2 billion dollar mark after just 3 weeks in theaters, becoming the eighth film in history to hit the benchmark. The film is the second fastest to hit this mark only behind Avengers: Endgame. At D23, Disney offered up the first look at the live action adaptation of Tangled, which stars Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim, and Kathryn Hahn. The studio also announced a release date of March 31, 2028. Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles on shows such as Heroes and Nashville has died at the age of 36. At D23, Pixar showed off some very early concept art for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2. Incredibles 3 will debut on June 16, 2028 and Coco 2 is currently set for a November 2029 release. HBO has announced a season 2 renewal for It: Welcome to Derry, the It prequel series from Warner Bros. Television and executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti. At D23, Disney showed some early images of the live action Lilo & Stitch 2, which currently has a release date of May 28, 2028.

A man is struck by a car on the streets of Los Angeles. In the emergency department, a CT scan ordered to look for traumatic injuries reveals something nobody expected: a mass in his colon. Days later, sitting across from Dr. Belinda Waltman, he calls the accident “a blessing in disguise.” Then he changes the subject. He is less worried about cancer than about whether he can afford to miss another day of work. In this season finale of Standard Deviation, host Dr. Oliver Bogler explores what happens when biomedical science collides with the realities of the healthcare safety net. Dr. Waltman, a primary care physician in Los Angeles County, specializes in expedited cancer workups for uninsured and underinsured patients. Every diagnosis arrives carrying another set of questions about housing, transportation, food insecurity, wages, and survival that rarely appear in medical records or scientific literature. For years, Waltman carried those stories without knowing how to bring them into the academic record. As a full-time clinician without a research lab, grant funding, or publication pipeline, she faced barriers familiar to many working scientists and physicians whose most important observations happen outside traditional research settings. With support from the Life Science Editors Foundation's JEDI program, those experiences became The Margins Matter, a narrative medicine essay published in JAMA that argues the social realities surrounding cancer care are not background details. They are part of the disease itself. Bogler traces how editorial mentorship transformed lived clinical experience into published scholarship while asking a larger question about who gets to shape the scientific record. The conversation examines cancer care, Medicaid, health-related social needs, medical publishing, and the structural incentives that determine which stories become evidence and which disappear from view. The result is a conversation about documentation, visibility, and why the margins of medicine often determine who survives long enough to benefit from its advances.RELATED LINKSDr. Belinda WaltmanThe Margins Matter | JAMAThe Margins Matter | PubMedLife Science Editors FoundationFEEDBACKLike this episode? In this deep and intimate conversation, Alam reflects on performance rituals and perfectionism, taking the Sarod into modern landscapes, navigating the "Jedi-like" responsibility of preserving legacy, and why true music must always serve as the "sound of unconditional love."If you enjoy deep dives into culture, identity, and artistic excellence within the South Asian diaspora, please LIKE, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE to join our growing community!--------------------------CHAPTERS:00:00 - Introduction03:02 - Overcoming Stage Fright & Performance Anxiety05:44 - Breaking Free from Perfectionism: "Perfectly Imperfect"08:48 - Maintaining a Growth Mindset in High-Stakes Artistry11:22 - Evolving Relationship with the Sarod: Classical vs. Contemporary15:01 - Meaningful Collaboration vs. "Confusion" Music16:07 - Classical Music as a Spiritual "Lighthouse"18:28 - Sponsor Break: Travelopod and Lotus Lane Coffee19:28 - Preserving Ali Akbar Khan's Legacy & Finding Space22:55 - The Anatomy of Musical Storytelling & Emotion25:15 - Listening to Ali Akbar Khan's Music Over Time28:44 - Teaching at the Ali Akbar College of Music32:17 - The "Jedi Order" Responsibility & Personal Legacy35:27 - Creating from a "World Between Worlds"38:35 - Connecting Audiences to Peace, Power, and Solace40:33 - Episode Outro & Community Shoutouts--------------------------EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS & KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Embracing the "Perfectly Imperfect": How to quiet physiological anxiety on stage and get out of your own way.• The Classical Lighthouse: Why classical foundation provides the creative anchor when exploring contemporary genres.• True Collaboration: Avoiding superficial fusion by ensuring projects resonate deeply and create timeless art.• Spreading the Sonic Gospel: Interpreting teachings for new generations at the Ali Akbar College of Music.--------------------------GUEST & HOST RESOURCES:

This week, we review Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), George Lucas's epic space opera sci-fi adventure set in the heart of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and Natalie Portman star as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala in a story that explores forbidden love, political betrayal, and the galaxy's descent into all-out war. With a secret clone army, a sinister separatist movement led by Christopher Lee's Count Dooku, and a young Jedi sliding dangerously toward the dark side, this film raises intriguing questions about whether destiny is written in the stars — or forged by our own choices. Is the Force strong with this one, or does the chemistry fall flatter than Kamino's ocean floor? SUMMARYJacob and Evan discuss three very different Clone Wars episodes, beginning with the Republic's political failure on Pantora before shifting to the survival-focused Ahsoka arc in Episodes 21 and 22. While neither host finds much to enjoy in the Senate episode, they explore how it reinforces the Republic's growing corruption and inability to act.The conversation then focuses on Ahsoka's capture by the Trandoshans, examining how surviving without Anakin or the Jedi becomes a defining step in her development. They discuss her leadership, the long-standing conflict between Trandoshans and Wookiees, Chewbacca's appearance, Anakin's tendency to blame himself, and whether this experience prepared Ahsoka for everything that would come later in her journey.KEYWORDSClone Wars Season 3 Episodes 21-22Clone Wars Episode 4 Sphere of InfluenceAhsoka TanoTrandoshansChewbaccaWookieesPantoraAhsoka leadershipJedi trialsAnakin SkywalkerClone Wars discussionStar Wars podcastCHAPTERS00:00 - Introduction and overview of Episodes 4, 21 & 2203:44 - Why the Senate episodes don't resonate07:30 - Why couldn't the Jedi intervene on Pantora?10:50 - Transition to Ahsoka's survival arc13:08 - Trandoshan hunters and the premise of the arc14:47 - The Wookiee vs. Trandoshan rivalry explained16:19 - Should Jedi abandon their morals to survive?18:43 - Anakin's guilt and fear of failing Ahsoka21:53 - Creature details, trophies and hidden environmental storytelling27:15 - Fake sponsor: Evan's private hunting island28:24 - Does this arc make Ahsoka a true leader?32:36 - How this prepares Ahsoka for life without the Jedi34:49 - Would Anakin rescuing Ahsoka have made her weaker?38:07 - Is Ahsoka more like Anakin or Obi-Wan?43:19 - Is Ahsoka already ready for the Jedi Trials?

Would you give up your name to save your life, if a tyrant demanded it first? Matthew Fox and Erin McGowan open Star Wars Generations' new episode-by-episode watch-through of Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi with exactly that question, then dig into the animated premiere: a girl named Kara hunting for her captured father, and a warlord named Nawaam commanding an army behind a lightsaber that stubbornly refuses to turn red.Matthew argues the show undercuts its own premise by introducing Jedi-trained fighters too soon, while Erin pushes back that the scarcity was always about lost lightsabers, not lost Jedi. They also dig into whether Nawaam genuinely believes he's still the hero, and whether Kara's father is really collaborating with his captors or playing a longer game. If a blade that's supposed to expose evil won't turn red for a tyrant, what does that make him?Full show notes and resources**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network.
