Jared Ogden: How a Navy SEAL's Vision is Transforming Tactical Training, CEO of Triumph Systems

From Battlefield to Breakthrough: Jared Ogden's Mission to Revolutionize Training   In this week's Team Never Quit episode, Marcus & Melanie welcome Jared Ogden, CEO of Triumph Systems and former U.S. Navy SEAL, to the show. Jared's remarkable journey from leading missions in Afghanistan to leading one of the most innovative training companies in the country is a story of resilience, vision, and transformation. Drawing from real-world tactical experience, Jared created Triumph Systems and the Brass Training System with a singular goal: to enhance the training and preparation of military and law enforcement personnel. In this episode, Jared shares how instinctual decisions made during deployments shaped his approach to developing cutting-edge training tools that emphasize life-saving decision-making under pressure. He reflects on his transition from being the "arrow" on the battlefield to becoming the "archer" — equipping today's warriors with the tools they need to succeed. Jared also discusses how Triumph Systems bridges the gap between elite training and accessibility, offering solutions that don't require massive budgets or facilities. If you're passionate about leadership, innovation, or serving those who protect us, you won't want to miss this inspiring conversation with a true trailblazer who's changing the future of tactical training. In This Episode You Will Hear: • My parents encouraged the kids to find what they're interested in, to be productive and to live a productive, rewarding life. (5:50). • The more you can overlap what you're interested in, and what you're good at, with what someone will pay you to do, the more successful you will be. (6:05) At a very early age, I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. I knew that I wanted to be a Navy SEAL. (7:26) • I was the honor graduate for my Leatherneck class. (22:49) • I was yelling at people, and barking out things and orders. Dan walked up to me nonchalantly and said “Jared, calmness is contagious, just talk.” I'll never forget that. (36:54) • [During the] first turnover op between us and 7, Dan stepped on a pressure plate. Honestly, he should've died that day, but there was a tremendous effort [to help him]. (37:23) • Do the right thing. In that case, the right thing landed me in a spot on this television show for 2 seasons. (48:08) • We gotta figure out who we're gonna take. Problem is there's no targets, nothing to shoot. So, we take water bottles, piss in them, put ‘em on a fence. And the first handful of guys, commandos, that could shout those from 50 yards – those are the guys that rolled with us. (52:14) • I'm a warfighter. I'm not an engineer. But along the journey I met some guys who were product engineers. [We developed] a recreational division and a government division – making turning target systems and other targets and software, making people more proficient with their firearms. (53:33) • Decision-making is one of the most important metrics of people who carry firearms professionally. (61:23) • The one common ingredient that I have for everything that I've done in my life is to do your best. Since I'm behind on getting these posted, I'm going to skip the insight into my life. That's usually the first paragraph of each post. However, I will say what my favorite things were from each franchise. While the Rattler is amazing and already backed, my favorite Joe item is a Transformer. I'm very excited to see the crossover line continue with Kup as the Triple T with Slaughter and Leatherneck. For Transformers, Hasbro finally came up with a good reason to combine Dinobots. The Dinoking box set looks like it will be a lot of fun. I missed some reveals from Masters, but of the ones I did see, I think I'm most excited for New Eternia Roboto. Star Wars, as usual, was the least interesting, but minimally we're finally getting a Blurrg from The Mandalorian.

By size, he was 5 ft 6 in and weighed 132 lbs but established himself as an amateurboxer. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 10, 1899. Daly joined the Marine Corps hoping to fight in the Spanish-American War however, the war ended while he was going through training at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.Although he missed the Spanish-American War, he saw combat in China, Haiti and in France during WWI. Daly was one of two Marines to receive the Medal of Honor for two separate combat engagements. The other Marine was Major General Smedley Butler, whom we highlighted in our 5th episode. They served together in a few locations and Butler described Daly as "The fightin'est Marine I ever knew!" Daly was reportedly offered an officer's commission twice to which he responded that he would rather be "an outstanding sergeant than just another officer."

Marines in the Second Seminole War served on land at and around Fort Foster in central Florida as well as in the Everglades where some dubbed them as swamp sailors.  Visitors on the Fourth of July, American independence day, call at the Tampa Bay History Center to learn more about our heritage. Built on the site of the old Fort Brooke military reservation, the center invites distinguished guests to present on a number of topics. Marine Living Historian Dave Ekardt is one of them. He has been a perennial at the center over the years, presenting talks and demonstrations about the Marines in the Second Seminole War. He also presents at various recreated forts and commemorative battle events.   Dave Ekardt in a summer and temperate U.S. Marine Corps uniform from 1830s.  He joins us today to share how in seven years of war, the Marines in Florida suffered nary a blemish to their reputation during their tour of duty. While an often futile assignment for the Army, Marines made the best of their presence and demonstrated without a doubt their great value to the nation's leaders when the nation needed them for pressing business. Dave shares stories and anecdotes about the Marines contributions to the Second Creek and Seminole Wars. The old man of the Marines, Commandant Archibald Henderson, proved a daring, brash, brave, and professional in running the Corps and in bringing them to Florida. Dave examines that deployment, as well as the Marines' uniforms and chow, and how his natural curiosity helped him to acquire invaluable records on Marines. These covered the Seminole War but they also provided slices of life about Marines who served later, such as in Nicaragua. Dave pulled information from a variety of resources to eventually pen a book on that Marine's service there. Dave Ekardt has published three non-fiction books relating to the the Marines in U.S. military history.  Host Patrick Swan is a board member with the Seminole Wars Foundation. He is a combat veteran and of the U.S. Army, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Kosovo, and at the Pentagon after 9/11. A military historian, he holds masters degrees in Public History, Communication, and Homeland Security, and is a graduate of the US Army War College with an advanced degree in strategic studies. Do not be cowardly. Do not be afraid, alarmed, or terrified because of them. 4 For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.' - I stood on those yellow footprints at Marine Corps Bootcamp 24 years ago, but I can still remember so much of what they taught me. They gave me my “book of knowledge” (green monster?) - Marines are taught extensively about their history and traditions, legendary warriors and battles. It is our responsibility to carry on this legacy and risk our lives to uphold it. - There is no “exit strategy.” You will fight to the death. You are a Marine forever. - In the same way, as a Christian, you have access to your extensive history and traditions. You have a responsibility to carry on that legacy. You have your own “book of knowledge”, the Bible! - You must be an example to the next generation and be a spiritual warrior for Jesus. - When you are engaged in the battle, you must do these 3 things: Point #1: You must change your perspective. Deut. 20:1, “When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and an army larger than yours, do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you. - The Medal of Honor is the highest military award, given to those who show extraordinary heroism, risking their lives going above and beyond the call of duty. Risking life, as in a situation when no one would fault you if you didn't take on the task. - There have been a total of 3,520 Medal of Honor recipients. 69 are still living currently.  - 300 Marines have received the MOH, 110 of those have been the rank of Private or PFC. - There have been 19 veterans who have received it twice, 2 Marines. (Technically 7 Marines total.) (Can anyone name one?) - Example: Dan Daly, said to be the greatest Leatherneck and most outstanding Marine of all time. - Smedley Butler (the other 2x awarded MOH) described Daly as the fighting'est Marine he ever knew, and said it was an object lesson to have served with him. - He stood just 5-foot-6 and weighed 132 pounds, and got his 1st MOH as a Private.  - During the Boxer Rebellion in China, Daly personally positioned himself alone along the Tarter Wall despite being exposed to sniper fire and other attacks. His small contingent of Marines helped protect the diplomatic personnel from being overrun.  - Against all odds, ready to pay the highest price, these 3,519 men (and one woman) had the perspective of facing a ferocious enemy, believing they could gain the victory. - From our biblical history we find a man with that same perspective, Jonathan. - In 1 Samuel, King Saul has just had his army routed by the Philistines, but his son Jonathan is not ready to give up the fight. - 1 Samuel 13:5-7, The Philistines also gathered to fight against Israel: 3,000 chariots, 6,000 horsemen, and troops as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They went up and camped at Michmash, east of Beth-aven. 6 The men of Israel saw that they were in trouble because the troops were in a difficult situation. They hid in caves, thickets, among rocks, and in holes and cisterns. 7 Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul, however, was still at Gilgal, and all his troops were gripped with fear. - 1 Samuel 14:6,  Jonathan said to the attendant who carried his weapons, “Come on, let's cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will help us. Nothing can keep the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” - 1 Samuel 14:11-14,

(Can anyone name one?) - Example: Dan Daly, said to be the greatest Leatherneck and most outstanding Marine of all time. - Smedley Butler (the other 2x awarded MOH) described Daly as the fighting’est Marine he ever knew, and said it was an object lesson to have served with him. - 1 Samuel 14:6,  Jonathan said to the attendant who carried his weapons, “Come on, let’s cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will help us. Nothing can keep the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” - 1 Samuel 14:11-14,

In 1928 Nancy Wake ran away from her Australian home and into an unlikely destiny: She became a dynamo in the French resistance, helping more than a thousand people to flee the Germans and then organizing partisans to fight them directly. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll tell the story of the White Mouse, one of the bravest heroes of World War II. We'll also marvel at mailmen and puzzle over an expensive homework assignment. Intro: The town of Agloe, New York, was invented by a pair of mapmakers. F. Monster in a Glass

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 26, 2018 127:32

First printed in Ted Saucier's Bottoms Up cocktail guide, this drink is not well represented and probably not well liked but nevertheless we did our 82nd episode on it. It first appears nearly simultaneously with the introduction of blue curacao on the market, it's recipe in Saucier's book, and a Bols ad for blue curacao roughly around 1951. It seems to have been given a spotlight for a short time by Bols and a couple of wheeling-dealing PR agents, Ted Saucier and Frank Farrell, who both did a stint in the Marines. It's an interesting little tale of cocktail invention in the Mad Men era. But we didn't leave it at that. We did a full assessment of understanding the origin of the word leatherneck and how it came to be applied to the personnel of the U.S. Marine Corps and then we told the stories of how the U.S. Marine Corps came to be and some of the amazing adventures they had in their early years. Truly cinematic stuff. The drink is: 2 oz blended whiskey 0.75 oz blue curacao 0.5 oz lime juice First off, the drink is frightening in aspect. We kept referring to it as green alien blood. The taste was pretty horrid as well. We sat in the bar trying to figure out why anyone would make this drink if it wasn't a prank...and then it hit us. The Leatherneck Cocktail tastes like salty leather. So nobody would ask to drink a cocktail that tastes like a sweaty leather collar, but if someone proposed that they could make a drink that tastes like briny hide people would still be impressed that that could be delivered. Granted its a parlor trick that works once and then it's retired...however, once we understood what the cocktail was all about, some members of the tasting team started to appreciate its complexity. Going into production of this episode I didn't think there was going to be much to discuss. This one ended up like a hidden gem...probably emerald...or maybe more sapphire.

DCS Mig 21 by Leatherneck Simulations Review - Guy In Car Radio #11 I go over the DCS Mig 21 from leatherneck Simulations. It for me is one of the best modules for DCS at this time. Leatherneck Simulations Have gone above and beyond on this module. The radar is fun and quite realistic as you have to keep an eye on the coolant. Go pick it up I know you wont regret it. Introduction The MiG-21bis is a delta wing, supersonic, fighter-interceptor jet aircraft. Much like the AK-47 became the everymans' rifle, the MiG-21 has been operated by more than 40 countries worldwide, and has enjoyed the longest production run of any modern jet fighter to date. The MiG-21, in all of its' variants, has fought in wars stretching all the way from the Vietnam War in the 1960's to the modern day Syrian Civil War. Owing to it's unique blend of versatility, ruggedness and maintainability, the MiG-21 remains in active service to this very day. Initially designed as a pure-bred interceptor, the MiG-21 has over the years evolved into a hybrid multirole aircraft. In addition to a vast Air-to-Air arsenal, it can effectively employ unguided rockets, bombs and radar-guided missiles to destroy ground or naval targets. The MiG-21BIS 75AP (МиГ-21бис Изделие 75) was the ultimate development of the MiG-21, fitted with the Tumansky R25-300 turbojet engine and a great number of other advances over previous types. The MiGs' intended for the Soviet PVO (Air Defense Force) were equipped with the Lazur GCI system (NATO: "Fishbed-L"), while those for the Soviet Air Force were fitted with the Polyot ILS system (NATO: "Fishbed-N"). It's fitted with instruments and electronic equipment ensuring capability to fly by day and at night, under fair and poor weather conditions. The MiG-21BIS is considered to be a third generation jet fighter. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations half-century after its' maiden flight. Several firms offer upgrade programs for the MiG-21, designed to bring the aircraft up to modern standards, with greatly upgraded avionics and armament. The DCS: MiG-21bis simulates an aircraft built to the Fishbed-N standard.
