Bitaco – a cup of magic! Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Cost-effectiveness of epidemic/pandemic preparedness, published by Vasco Grilo on June 30, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Summary I Fermi estimate the cost-effectiveness of epidemic/pandemic preparedness is 0.00236 DALY/$. Relative to the above, I calculate GiveWell's top charities are 4.12 times as cost-effective, and corporate campaigns for chicken welfare, such as the ones supported by The Humane League (THL), 6.35 k times. Calculations My calculations are in this Sheet. I Fermi estimate the cost-effectiveness of epidemic/pandemic preparedness of 0.00236 DALY/$ multiplying: The expected annual epidemic/pandemic disease burden of 68.2 MDALY. I obtained this from the product between: The expected annual epidemic/pandemic deaths of 1.61 M, which I determined multiplying: The epidemic/pandemic deaths per human-year from 1500 to 2023 of 1.98*10^-4, which is the ratio between 160 M epidemic/pandemic deaths, and 808 G human-years from Marani et. al 2021[1]. The population predicted for 2024 of 8.12 G. The disease burden per death in 2021 of 42.4 DALY. The relative reduction of the expected annual epidemic/pandemic disease burden per annual cost of 3.46 %/G$. I got this aggregating the following estimates with the geometric mean: 8 %/G$ (= 0.2/(250*10^9/100)), which is based on Millett & Snyder-Beattie 2017: "We extend the World Bank's assumptions to include bioterrorism and biowarfare - that is, we assume that the healthcare infrastructure would reduce bioterrorism and biowarfare fatalities by 20%". "We calculate that purchasing 1 century's worth of global protection in this form would cost on the order of $250 billion, assuming that subsequent maintenance costs are lower but that the entire system needs intermittent upgrading". 1.5 %/G$ (= 0.3/(20*10^9)), which is based on Bernstein et. al 2022: 30 % is the mean between 10 % and 50 %, which are the values studied in Table 2. "We find that the sum of our median cost estimates of primary prevention (~$20 billion) are ~1/20 of the low-end annualized value of lives lost to emerging viral zoonoses and

Sip, share, shape our podcast!Temperatures are heating up and our natural instinct is to shift from red to white wine to tame the sweltering summer temperatures.  SWTW takes on the task of finding the perfect chilled summer red wines perfect for every occasion!  From Lambrusco to Syrah and a few in between, we hit the highlights so you, too, can pop the cork on red wine throughout the dog days of summer. What are the key elements which make a red variety perfect for serving at cooler temperatures (45-55 F)?  High acidity, red fruit flavors, thin skins for low tannin and lower alcohol!  Winemakers pick grapes at the perfect point, likely on the early side, to achieve the crunchy, bright, light fruity red wine style needed to put on the chill.Lambrusco is a moderately fizzy red made in the same way as Prosecco.  Grape varieties are little known Maestri, Marani, Montericco, and Salamino and translate to vibrant fuchsia deliciousness in the glass.  Gamay, most famous in Beaujolais as well as Pinot Noir are definitely in the perfect wheelhouse for summer chillables!  SWTW faves include Louis Jadot Beaujolais Village and our previous guest Morét-Brealynn Wines Pinot Noir. What's not to love!?!The most surprising star of the summer chilled red wine show is cool climate Syrah!  We'll let you listen in to the story, but Division Wine Co's Gamine wins our vote along with Unison Vineyard's New Zealand "And Relax"! Summer is here and we think it's the perfect time to put the chill on a great bottle of fruity red and sip your way through the season!Cheers!Charisse & KristiThanks for joining Somm Women Talk Wine! Orange Wine 101: Everything You Need to Know About Orange Wine

Bri Books

We're continuing Wine Week on Bri Books! I started the week with episodes about how to select the perfect wine and my wine-shopping hacks, and now we're delving deep into the specific wines and regions. My love for orange wine led me to an NYC wine shop called Orange Glou in 2019, shortly after the shop opened. It's a store dedicated 100% to orange wine! This past November, Orange Glou hosted their second-ever orange wine fair, and it was a roaring success. Hosted at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Orange Glou's founders Doreen Winkler and Jack Won really knocked it out of the park and managed to secure nearly 5 dozen winemakers and importers. It was a veritable who's who of the orange wine world.  A few facts about orange wine: Orange wine is a type of skin contact wine, made from white grapes that macerate on the skin. It's not wine made from citrus oranges!  Orange wine was invented in the Republic of Georgia thousands of years ago and was reintroduced to the rest of the world 40 years ago by 2 Italians, Gravner and Radikon, who wanted to explore this winemaking style. Today there are 1,000+ wine producers and wineries that make orange wine along with other styles they're producing.  I find orange wine to be fascinating because of the geographical differences in the wines. From South Australia to South Africa, Austria to Alsace, Georgia to Germany, the varieties of white grapes put on display in orange wine are divine.   In this episode, I'm sharing a few of my favorite orange wine importers and orange wines.  5:00: D-I Wine (Alsace): D-I Wine is a natural wine import and distribution powerhouse. I met the founder Brett Taylor (for the second year in a row!), and spent too long gushing over his selection. D-I wine takes a truly DIY approach to natural wine. Their portfolio is stocked with natural and low-intervention wines. They're all about deep partnership with producers who understand and respect tradition. The true gem on the D-I Wine team is George Kalligeros, a wine Somm with a diverse background in the wine industry. He has experience as a portfolio manager, sommelier, and is knowledgable about wine-making. He's currently serving as the portfolio manager of D-I Wine, and in this role, he curates and manages the wine selection for the company, focusing on French natural wines. His expertise expands to Paris, the Rhone, and beyond. One of my favorite selections  from D-I Wine is Domaine Brand's Tout Terriblement wine from Alsace, France. A 100% Gewurztraminer, this full-bodied wine has a fresh, yellow and orange-fruit flavor with a hint of sweet lychee.  8:25: Donkey and Goat Winery (California): I'll admit it: the name of this winery pulled me right away. But this winemaker/ proprietor/ hose cleaner Jared Brandt and his tasty drinks charmed me. Based in Berkeley, CA, ared and his co-founder Tracey Rogers founded Donkey and Goat Winery in 2004 in San Francisco after studying the art of crafting natural wines in the Rhone Valley. I tasted the Elen Ridge Vineyard Stone Crusher orange wine made from the Roussanne varietal. It was rich, well structured and the tannins revealed a fresh finish. Donkey and Goat also have a testing room in Berkeley, so I'd say they're probably one of the coolest natural wine operations in the Bay.  10:10: 8000 Vintage Selections (Georgia): The 8000 Vintage Selections table was the party epicenter of the orange wine fair. The team from 8000 Vintage Selections had over a half dozen producers at the ready, with at least a dozen or so bottles to taste from. The founder and CEO Shalva Tevdoradze was an absolute beast. The 8000 Vintage Selections collection is almost exclusively Georgian wines. Winemaking in Georgia dates back at least 8,000 years. Early Georgians made wine at least 6,000 BC when they discovered that grape juice could be turned into wine after being buried in qvevris underground. Kveri is an egg-shaped earthenware vessel made for making, aging and storing wine. It's the oldest way of making wine. This experience completely cemented in me the need to visit Georgia to explore viticulture for myself. Two Georgian winemakers caught my attention: Nikalas Marani and Vellino Wines.  Nikalas Marani: We tasted the Nikalas Marani Rkatsiteli 2020 vintage from a small-scale winemaker with over 100 years of family legacy. Winemaker Zurab Mgvdliashvili's grandfather was a small-scale wine cultivator in the 1920s, during the peak of the Soviet Union. When Zurab Mgvdliashvili took over the property in 2005, he restored everything, and as a tribute to his grandfather kept the old name Nikala's Marani. I'd describe the Nikalas Marani Rkatsiteli 2020 vintage as tropical and balanced with pronounced tannins and fruity aromas of peach, forest honey, and yellow dried fruit.  Vellino Wines: Vellino was founded in 2015 to continue a family business of winemaking. The 26-year-old winemaker makes wines from Kakhetian grape varieties, utilizing knowledge passed down by family and fellow winemakers. I tasted the Kisi 2020 vintage, and the Rkatsiteli 2020 vintage. Beka Jimsheladze did an excellent job with this wine. I can imagine this amber colored wine being perfect with fish, veggies, chicken and cheeses, thanks to its gentle, refreshing notes of citrus. The best part: Vellino Wines in Georgia offers tours! Wines Mentioned: Orange Glou orange wine shop in NYC  D-I Wine (Alsace), Domaine Brand's Tout Terriblement wine  Donkey and Goat Winery (California), Elen Ridge Vineyard Stone Crusher orange wine  8000 Vintage Selections (Georgia), Nikalas Marani Rkatsiteli 2020 and Vellino Wines Kisi 2020 If you're new to the show (and loving it!), leave a review of Bri Books on Apple Podcasts, and listen to Bri Books on Apple Podcasts, Spotify! Do you want to unlock your greatest potential in business and achieve incredible results? In this special podcast episode, Jaryd Krause has invited Itamar Marani, who will share his expertise in emotional intelligence. Itamar's unique journey defied conventional education. He skipped university, immersing himself in real-world learning. At 18, he joined an elite Israeli Special Forces unit, engaging in a decade-long tenure in international counter-terrorism. In 2008, he became the youngest graduate of Israel's Air Marshal program. With a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, he excelled globally and led diverse teams, overseeing substantial assets as a billionaire's security chief for three years before departing due to ethical concerns. A close encounter with Al Qaeda while undercover spurred mentorship from Mossad's head psychologist.  Now, through "The Arena," Itamar nurtures emotional fortitude and an effective mindset among entrepreneurs. Over 100 such individuals have benefited from his guidance, rooted in his multifaceted background encompassing special forces, counter-terrorism, psychological mentorship, and athletic achievement. His goal remains—equipping entrepreneurs with practical resilience and a mindset devoid of empty motivation. Today, here are the interesting topics that they have talked about: What holds people back from achieving incredible results? Why can some people come in guns blazing and get results while others are slower? And how do you uncover what is not true for you that's holding you back, and how do you give yourself the space to re-shape your beliefs? They also discussed how and why men may find it challenging to feel emotions and learn the cues they need to listen to in order to make incredibly impactful decisions. How was emotional intelligence for myself and Itamar one of the best things for our growth? Lastly, Itamar shares a really cool story of his that pushed him to work on his emotional intelligence. Key Takeaways   ➥ Continuing to do what has always worked may yield decent results, but it may not be the most efficient or effective way to achieve a goal. ➥ Fears can manifest as beliefs that hinder progress. Identifying these beliefs is crucial to understanding the source of resistance and reluctance to take necessary actions. ➥ It's essential to examine and question the beliefs that may hold entrepreneurs back from exploring new opportunities and approaches in their post-exit ventures. ➥ People may feel pressured to follow certain actions or paths based on societal expectations. It's essential to evaluate whether these actions align with personal goals and values.   About The Guest Itamar Marani didn't go to university because he was getting an intense real world education. At age 18, he was drafted into the most elite unit in the Israeli Special Forces and spent over 10 years in federal and private international counter-terrorism units. In 2008, he graduated from the Israeli Shin Bet's prestigious Air Marshal program as the youngest person in the country's history. He's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under a 9x time World Champion and was ranked in the top 10 in the world at the amateur level. He led multinational teams of Navy Seals and other Special Forces veterans and managed assets in the 9-figure range as the chief of security for a billionaire, but he quit after 3 years because of the lack of integrity in the work environment. While working undercover abroad, he had a very close call with Al Qaeda that led to him working with and being mentored by the Israeli Mossad's head psychologist. He now leads "The Arena," which is a mindset accelerator focused on emotional fortitude and an effective mindset for entrepreneurs. He's helped over 100 6-8 figure entrepreneurs evolve into better versions of themselves through group and private coaching His mission is to share everything he's learned in the Israeli special forces, international counterterrorism, working with the Mossad's top psychologist and being an internationally ranked BJJ athlete. South Africa's Central Energy Fund (CEF) has completed its due diligence on its R1-billion investment in emerging integrated energy producer Renergen's Virginia gas project. Marking a major step towards finalising the agreement between Renergen and the CEF, both parties have now started engaging with their respective stakeholders to obtain final approvals to complete the transaction. Renergen CEO Stefano Marani says the successful conclusion of the due diligence “signifies the strategic nature of the Virginia gas project and further marks another significant step forward in closing out the capital required for Phase 2 operations at Virginia”. He adds that the CEF's involvement in the project brings with it “a wealth of experience” in upstream oil and gas exploration, midstream natural gas to liquids processing and large-scale pipeline operations and maintenance experience. “This will all assist in bringing a new and critical source of energy online, at a time where South Africa is suffering a significant energy crisis,” Marani notes. Commenting on the commissioning progress of Virginia ahead of the start of Phase 1 operations, Marani says that turning the plant for Phase 1 operations on is “a function of coordinating all the sites to turn on simultaneously, and importantly, the relevant teams are ensuring that all aspects of the operation will run according to design”. “We have no intention of rushing the process at this late stage and introducing risk. Since starting construction at Virginia prior to Covid, the total delays experienced in the context of several global macro events of the past two years could have been significantly worse had we not implemented several mitigations to reduce the overall impact on the project,” he adds, referencing the project's delays over the past few years.

In this IJC episode, Frank van Laerhoven has a conversation with Jim Sinner.   Together with Marc Tadaki, Edward Challies, Margaret Kilvington, Paratene Tane, and Christina Robb, Jim co-authored a recent IJC publication entitled Crafting Collective Management Institutions in Messy Real-World Settings: A Call for Action Research. The article deals with how we can give guidance to prospective, or would-be institutional crafters and collective management enablers. And in order to address that question the researchers apply an explicit action research approach with commoners not as subjects or respondents but as co-researchers. In the conversation we discuss some of the codes of conduct for commons researchers that are based on Jim's research, such the need to get alongside people on the ground, to engage with social identities, and to put social justice at the center of what we do. Jim's work aligns with other work that we have published in the International Journal of the Commons, work that engages with critical institutionalism, for example. The Meaning Movement: Helping You Find Your Calling, Create Your Life's Work, and Make Career Change

There's an old saying: when the student is ready, the teacher appears. I looked this up, trying to find where it came from. It's pretty unclear. But it's a truth that you know when you experience it. When you're ready to level up and learn something, related things hit you differently. Certain interactions carry more weight and penetrate you deeper than they might have in other times. Both today's conversation and the next one I'll be releasing were those kinds of conversations for me. As many of you know, outside of the Meaning Movement I have a few other project. And while I was recording these episodes, I had a lot happening with one of them. It was a bit of a watershed moment. If you want to know more about my other project, go to themeaningmovement.com and subscribe. All of which is to say I needed this conversation in ways that I didn't expect. Our guest, Itamar Marani, is a mindset coach. While that may sound a bit out there, he is anything but that. He's down to earth and strategic in his approach. He's a former member of the Israeli special ops and jujitsu contender. He now helps entrepreneurs identify and overcome their internal obstacles. There's something in this conversation for everyone. Why? Because every time you change you need a new way of thinking. And you can't always see what you need to change to become the next version of yourself, until you have someone helping you identify it. In this episode you'll learn: What Itamar does How he began his career How his military background has helped his career Why he moved on from military service What motivated his transition How he made the transition successful How to define mindset How to know if your mindset is off Three core fears that stop us from getting what we want How he work with clients on mindset issues How to improve your mindset Show notes at: https://themeaningmovement.com/itamar

Today on the podcast I am joined by Itamar Marani, a former member of the Israeli Special Forces, the youngest Air Marshal in Israel's history and on top of all that a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who now focuses on helping entrepreneurs overcome crises and excel through mindset and leadership through his company Marani Consulting. I really wanted to have Itamar on the podcast because I think COVID has really shown that as leaders and entrepreneurs a lot of us weren't ready to handle something like this. Many of us started out businesses during a time of growth and opportunity and it's the first time that we are facing something like this so it's never been more important to know how to deal with a crisis and high-pressure situations. So that's exactly what Itamar and I discussed on this podcast. We also got to talk about how to create a strong contingency plan for yourself and your business so if things go wrong you know exactly what to do. On top of all that Itamar and I got to talk about his background and how he ended up becoming an entrepreneur after serving in the Special Forces and as a security guard for a Russian Oligarch which in my opinion is a fascinating background, it's not every day that you meet someone who has protected a Russian Oligarch. You guys this was a really cool conversation and I am so happy to have had Itamar on the podcast, I really believe that what Itamar and I discussed on this podcast is not something that is talked about often but really should be because even though it's rare that things can go really wrong when they do it's important to know how to reach. As always you can find the full show notes to this interview at ThatRemoteLife.com/episode72 that's episode all spelled out followed by the number 72. He is the founder and host of one of the top podcasts on entrepreneurship, Noah Kagan Presents.     Website: https://www.thebusinessmethod.com/noah-kagan Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-business-method-podcast/id1069958541?mt=2 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVidXNpbmVzc21ldGhvZC5wb2RiZWFuLmNvbS9mZWVkLnhtbA%3D%3D Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2q8Q9t78sCL6kNkWlnV1Po     Noah How do I sell people I'm like, you find that people who have the money and you do something valuable for them, and then they will give you that money. I think what's even more powerful as you say, you can be a millionaire in 10 years. And so pick some fucking idea. Most importantly, pick an idea that you'll work on for 10 years, and just commit 10 years and finding the thing to commit to is almost the more hard part about it. Especially right now I think the one thing to think about in business is what are you certain of not what are you uncertain of, and make a list of all the certainties and then execute against that?     Chris Hey guys, we get the fortunate opportunity to hop on the mic and do a Q and A session with Noah Kagan. Noah is the founder of AppSumo, a $30 million a year business. also the founder and owner of Noah Kagan Presents, a very popular podcast on entrepreneurship as well as the founder of Ok Dork, KingSumo and Send Fox. Noah was the 30th employee at Facebook and number four at Mint.com. He has quite an amazing resume. And just a genius when it comes to spouting out business ideas. You guys will notice this on the podcast. Noah is very creative, but he's also very thoughtful on not only how he can be a better entrepreneur, but how he can engage with other people and be a better person himself. So what we do on this show you guys we have two other friends Freddy Lansky, who organized this podcast and Itamar Marini, my partner and friend as well. And we go through some chat back and forth about asking Noah different types of questions around entrepreneurship, what's going on in the world today with the crisis that we're going through, and then we bring in one guest entrepreneur to ask some questions and then we have a q&a going. And Noah answered some q&a from the Facebook Live that we did with this podcast as well. So it's a fun session, more informal, a lot of back and forth banter, a lot of rabbit holes and tangents we go often but really enjoyable and I think it's an episode you guys will get a lot out of. First before we hop into the episode we want to tell you about our sponsors NomadX. All right. We're about to get it on. Yeah, man. I'm stoked. All right. I'm grabbing my brisket. Once I get my brisket, it's Game on.     Chris Are you eating pork again? No shame on you   Noah No. Well there's two things. I was just gonna say one you got to eat otherwise you can be hungry but two, we don't in our lives include enough recharge time. Yeah. And so I've been really working on not this moment, but I was gonna have more things after this and I'm like, Fuck that. Yeah, I think we think our phones need to recharge, but we don't need to recharge.   Chris I hear you man. I always like to make it equivalent to a bow and an arrow. You know, like you've got to have that recharge that pullback time in order to shoot the arrow so it can go fast. And we don't do that. We don't pull our bows back enough.   Noah Dude, I've literally one thing that happened to me recently with this whole Coronavirus thing which I love. It's my favorite holiday.   Noah I really do. Yeah, well  regarding the recharging. I fucking forgot where the fuck I was going with it. But it was a really good point. You know, come back to me about this reach. Oh, I the number one thing I've noticed. This is one thing, the number one thing I notice about everyone who fucking hates Corona There's two things. Number one, though, they're not getting enough sleep. Seriously, every day that I wake up and I'm like, fuck today, like that happened to me on Friday and Saturday, I was just just lonely and angry. And then I was like, Did you sleep a lot? I was like, No. Okay, that's probably why   Freddy Do you have an aura ring? Or like a sleep tracker?   Noah So there's two other things I was going to say though. Number one is, it's interesting to think about our morning routines. And I think everyone's got weird as shit, but I was just really zoning in and like honing in on a fucking badass morning where like, today, I did it perfectly. And I was like, okay, when I do it this way, my day starts great. And when I do it other ways, My days are a little more fucked. Yeah. And then the last thing that is interesting is that when you're rich, it's really hard to know what it's like to be poor. And I know that that's a fucking that's a dick thing to say. But I really had this universe of rich bullshit. I hired a guy to come over and massage me last night. And so he came over to my house, and it was really sad. Okay, it was just sad. Because he was like Yeah, I've lost my job and no one wants to have me come over the house. And you know, it was good to understand and try to see where I can help that kind of person right like and so I talked to him I was like well you're a sous Have you thought about teaching people how to give themself massages or couples massages and maybe putting that online or helping people locally? And you know, it's just interesting to kind of learn from that versus just I think as you get as you rise levels you just forget so I think it's good to go back to the frontline.   Chris Do you ever do anything to like, keep you humble? You know, they talk about like, I like to do things that make me survive on very little like this past weekend, we just went out in the woods, and we took a knife and took a pot to boil on a fishing hook. And then you really kind of get in touch with you know, you don't need a lot like it doesn't matter how much money you have. You know, you can understand, like humility or living on bear means or interacting with people that don't have a lot on a regular basis.   Noah Yeah, like, yesterday I had to call my assistant to go do something and I was pretty low for me. Like, you know, I was like, this thing to call her. No, I like that. I like that approach. I think we've done that is I like doing that in the small things like the dishes is the stupidest one, right what is just something small that you know, doing the bitch work and eating it. There's something great Oh, shoot me.   Chris No, no, sorry. Sorry. I was just gonna say like Mike Tyson used to go big on streets further for money, even after he was rich and famous. And he would go and he put a hoodie on and he would go out just just to kind of, I mean, it may not be the best example because Mike, you know, had his own word for No.         Noah Well, I think what I've been doing recently, especially with the YouTube channel, and some of these other things is starting businesses again from scratch. Yeah. And really doing it live like we did with Freddie a few days ago and I did it myself. The past I've done like I started a gym business two weeks ago. started selling Oculus a few weeks ago and so really experimenting with like, Alright, can I actually do this stuff? And I don't know I guess it does keep me humble. It also reminds me sometimes how hard or and also how easy some of this stuff is.   Chris Yeah, that's a good point.   Chris So before we get started we wanted to reconnect you with Itamar here. I know you both, I don't know you know very well, but I know Itamar pretty well. And we thought you guys would kind of hash it out and have good chats and good fun together. He's really special forces for 10 years and counterterrorism, good friend of mine and partner of mine now. And and so if you ever want to learn Hebrew, this is the guy to learn from.   Itamar You need to try Jiu Jitsu, man. There's no better equalizer in the world. Nobody cares how much money you have. What's your background on the mats? Kelly?   Noah yeah, I love watching two dudes grow like groping each other on the ground. That's like I'm really into that. I did watch it. Yeah. Boxing I think one thing I've been thinking about in life is like ratios. And so I do boxing and I found that like the calorie to time ratio for me was more effective. And also enjoyment plus skill, but I felt that I got more out of that with boxing than I did with jujitsu and I've done it, it's not just me. Yeah, it's interesting to stay humble, man. I like that. I think you know a lot of it about Chris checking your ego.    Yeah, no matter what size you get, and you know, happened to me two weeks ago, like I put out this YouTube video youtube.com slash Okay, dork, by the way, but I put out this video and I didn't get a lot of views. And then I was like, Am I not worthy? I was like, Am I not smart? Are my ideas sucky? And it was interesting. I was like, Well, what am I doing this for? And what, what's, what's the treadmill that I'm on? Right? And is there ever enough? So we were talking even when we could in that moment, I talked to a friend. He's like, Well, why did you do it? And I was like, I really have so much confidence in the world and people these days that I want to go help. I want to help these underdogs. I want to help the people willing to work. And he's like, Well, did you do it? I was like, yeah. And I was like, Alright, well then don't fucking care if you get one person's help or 1000.    And it's a kind of shifted how I'm even goal setting lately. Because it's like, people have these goals. And once you get to a million dollars I want you just get a million bucks and then set whatever fucking cool goal you want. And then you know, you can do but I think frankly, you'll get a million dollars if you do the thing that you're not trying to make the million dollars on. Yeah. You know, and that's bullshit advice if you're not rich, because you're like, Well, I'm not rich yet. So that advice doesn't work for me. But I've generally made the most money, not trying to make the money just doing the thing that I'm most interested in. But with the goal thing, we were talking about our YouTube goal, and we're actually looking at the goal that's interesting for the dork brand, my stuff that I share basically the voice of our company. For app Sumo and Sumo group. We said we want to get our active audience number up. And I don't think this is a metric that anyone talks about if you're in content. So your active audience is not just your email list, but it's the active audience on your email list and the active audience on your YouTube. That active audience on the platforms that matter to you, and what is that actual reach? And so my reach is like penis size, micro, okay? But it was like 173,000. And then we're like, Alright, this month in May, we're gonna get to 200,000. And I was like, I don't give a fuck if I get to 200,000 people, I really don't. I really care more than like, I get to hang out with you guys and do a talk like this to 10,15, 500 I don't care. And so I'm more interested in sharing the things I'm learning and also getting learned and meeting people that I'm learning a lot from. And so it's maybe setting my goals a little bit more differently that are aligned to things that really fulfill me. I love that man.   Chris I love that. Okay, so let's do a quick introduction. I think most people know who knows Noah Kagan is but I'm going to introduce him anyway. Noah Kagan was number 30 on Facebook. Number four is the founder of AppSumo. Ok Dork, KingSumo and Send Fox and probably a bunch of others. AppSumo is an eight figure business and the number one site online For software deals, Noah is the founder and a host of one of the top podcasts on entrepreneurship. Noah Kagan Presents.   Noah Dude, that guy sounds awesome.     He sounds cool.     Yeah, I was like, Is that me? I think sometimes I'm just surprised.     I'm like, wow. But you know, I think some of it is. I was talking with my therapist. He calls himself a coach, but I say you're a therapist. I guess it just depends how much they charge.     And who's cheaper? Well, tell us first. I know well. I think a coach can charge more. A therapist charges 120, a coach can have a program. That's what he wants to talk to me about next week, which I'm interested in. But I think what's really interesting about successes, how we label it to each other, but not ourselves. Because I never think of the word success. I don't, it's not that I don't believe in it. I guess I don't believe it. I just don't give a fuck about success. I've really explored and I think where I've explored my interests and my explore things I really want. I thrive and when I explore money making opportunities, I fucking flame out and That's been interesting in my own journey, and I hope for everyone's journey is just really, you know, Facebook. I didn't know anyone there. I didn't have any advantages I just built, I looked it up recently. I built probably like four to five different online college businesses. So when I applied I said, hey, I've just been doing this stuff because it sucked for me, and I wanted to build it. And then I got the job there. And I think a lot of the most of the stuff I started or worked at, I was just really like, I was excited to work at MIT. So I did whatever it took to work there. And appsumo I was like, I want deals on these products. These products are fucking dope. There's this whole Groupon makeit thing. That's a cool way to do it. And let me just go get deals on the software I don't want to pay full price for and I'm like, now I get fucking paid for that. Like, how cool is that? Like, everyone should do that.   Chris   You're right, you're right. What do you think gets in the way of people from doing that?   Noah   Well tell you there's two separate things that I've observed for myself. So I think there's two separate places, there's the starting place and then there's the success place. People are afraid of getting success as much as they're afraid of starting. Yeah, that's been really fascinating for me, and So on both sides of that, I would say for myself, what I can only speak for myself in my recipes. So in myself, I noticed that my superpower is starting and experimenting, and I'm not as strong. It's consistency. Just don't get really bored. I'm like, Alright, next. Next, I was telling the coach this morning I said, My motto is kill comma, next. Kill next, what's next, kill it. Next thing. And so I'm actually thinking my and I've been learning this one of my books that I've really enjoyed is the powerful engagement by Tony Schwartz. And I got to chat with him recently. And he said that life doesn't have to be zero and one, there's a spectrum and you go back and forth on it. And so I think the spectrum I'm working on is how I slow down a bit more and enjoy the kill, and slow down more and recharge more. And so in terms of the the, the thing I hope you will back into success for me what I've observed is embracing your strength. So I'm a starter so I should be fucking starting and amens a closer so he's running appsumo The other side of that the other part of that that I'm really working through right now is of what's working for you or what's fulfilling you really fulfilling like fucking calling like, Hello, it's Jesus. It's your turn. How do you remove the distractions from that? So I'll give you an example of what that means. I love this. This with you, not just hearing my fucking voice, like I can listen to you guys talk if I have questions for you. I do this all fucking day. But when I'm spending the day doing meetings, I've been setting the date like I spent like two hours trying to figure out some tech shit earlier. And when spending my day like a planet doing other stuff, it honestly discourages me from it. And so it's like, Alright, well how do I hire the people or figure out you know how to reduce it. So I'm not spending my day in that and I color code my calendar, and I call it my purple productivity priority. And my purple productivity party is that how much fucking purple is on my calendar and you can color code your calendar is really cool. And so I'm like, Well, if my color isn't fucking purple, something's wrong. And so I've just noticed for myself in terms of once you've gotten some level of Your own measurement of success? How do you remove the things that are hindering you from sustaining? So that's it once you've gotten inside and honestly, the purple productivity priority, I'm still working on the branding is what's working for me? Because then I look at my calendar right now. And I can say like, do I have something everyday that fulfills me? Do I have something that's towards my main priority every day? On the starter site for the beginners out there? The number one thing for starters is fear. They're all fucking afraid. They're so fucking afraid, and I'm afraid of relationships. And I'm afraid of sustaining. But I'm not afraid of fucking starting. And so that's why I've done so well, business wise around the start. These people, it's been amazing. We had that monthly one k.com we reopened this course. About 10,000 people have gone through it, maybe 1000 have gotten businesses like really good businesses, and maybe like 100 have made like six figure businesses. And that's probably true for how like the statistics work publicly, but it's been amazing to observe how they avoid that part's been so fucking wild. Like the psychology You have people who put this out, and they're afraid of it so I do a lot of things to get them out of their fucking fear. Like we know, we do a push up challenge, try to do 100 push ups. That's it. You can do it at home. You don't need anyone. Okay? You fucking failed. Alright, good your life next coffee challenge, which you guys probably have heard of, or maybe if not coffee challenges go for 10% off your next purchase, preferably in person and get rejected. And then you're like, well, that's fucking fine. And then the last one I like is like the stranger challenge. Now it's even scarier because no one wants to talk to fucking anyone. But next time you go out, talk to a stranger. It's fucking scary. I'm scared of that. It's just a little scary. But I pushed myself. I still do that to this day one because I love deals. So I'd like to do a 10% Coffee challenge, but I like the idea of practicing and making strength in my fear muscle. I think the fear muscle is something that you can actually work on. And with starting a business ideas are fucking a joke. I talked to the masseuse last night. He's like, Man, I'm struggling. I got no money. I was like, Well, I didn't want to be a business coach. But I said, I was like, Did you try to teach people how to do couples' massages?'' Have you you post it anywhere Have you applied for an Amazon delivery job, like I applied for an Amazon delivery job took me like five fucking minutes. It's actually shockingly easy. And not everyone should be an employee. But I think in terms of starting a side hustle. Number one, if you have no fucking money, go get a day job and get just get your foundation set up. But in terms of the fear, it's just practicing the fear, noticing the traps, like there's traps. So I actually made a list of the traps yesterday, things that were entrepreneurs say 10 ways to know your entrepreneur, or 10 things that they say they say, Ah, it's the economy, the economy's bad. I'm like, the economy is always gonna be fucking weird. So it's just that you're not valuable, and you're doing things that are not valuable. It's a good point.

The 20th podcast episode is a truly moving one! Nino and Bastian joined me from the terrace of their Georgian winery, called Ori Marani. I was convinced that their love story alone would worth writing a book about, but their joint winemaking history has only recently begun by establishing their own winery in Nino’s homeland, in the Shida Kartli region of Georgia. Bastian, born and raised in Champagne, introduced me to his innovative winemaking techniques, to native Georgian grape varieties and to their impressive plans for the future. Georgia is one of the most exciting wine regions and I’m sure that Ori Marani’s wine ghosts are going to have true characters and reflect a sense of place in the future, too. Charging conversation with young and ambitious wine wizards looking into a bright future. That rarely happens because we are in the middle of stress. In this way, we can avoid being emotional by making the hard decisions.Having focus is the key in being able to see the current opportunities in the situation.Highlighting the wins for the day is also important in having a good business outlook.Exercise: this helps in re-focusing and venting stress. If you’re looking for a new perspective by employing better tactics and strategies to gain a clearer goal for you and your team, and indeed how to shift mentality during times of crisis, make sure to visit the Marani Consulting website. ---Thanks so much for joining us this week. Another Georgian from Jake, this time a white. From the Marani describes Kaketi. Not his favorite but a serviceable light wine made from Rkatsiteli grapes. Referencing Tasting Anarchy ep 20, Jake revisits the perplexing worldwide government and civilian love fest with high speed rail. The topic was brought about by an article in The Business Journal about a proposed high speed line between Houston and Dallas. The conversation wanders to wine production in northern England and southern Scotland during the middle ages and the government environmental industrial complex. Mason and Jake also spoke about Jeffrey Tucker and how due to internal bickering in libertarian circles and the left/right battle, many have sort of stopped paying attention to him. Jake brought up his recent appearance on Dave Rubin and a wonderful speech he gave called "Capitalism Is About Love" at the Acton Institute.  Jeffrey's  new book is available for free, as always, on Fee.  The book is "Right-Wing Collectivism: The Other Threat To Liberty". Look forward to a review when Jake has finished the book! Pronto all’assalto.

Pronto all’assalto.

This show is brought to you by Express Imprint, click on the link below and check out their Custom Koozie This week on Wine Time™ Radio Show with WineGuyMike™  I’m talking about Lambrusco. Why you might ask?  Because today, June 21st, is Lambrusco Day in Italy, and Lambrusco is one of the best wines to enjoy with food. Simple, fun, fizzy, refreshing, inexpensive, need I say more?Lambrusco is one of Italy’s most popular wines. Do you remember one of television’s most famous of tag lines “Riunite on Ice, That’s Nice”? Yes that’s right your Grandma’s Lambrusco, Riunite, is still claiming to be the biggest selling Italian wine in history here in the United States.Riunite Lambrusco was launched in the late 1960’s and what now seem like cheesy commercials ran on TV in the 70’s.  Cheesy or not that famous tag line is one of the most memorable ever, at least for those of us old enough to remember.  But the truth is this brand enjoyed one of the most well executed marketing campaigns ever.  That was yesterday, today Lambrusco has come of age and I’m here to share it with you. There is not anything to complicated or technical that we need to know in our approach to buying, chilling, and drinking Lambrusco.  In fact Lambrusco is rather simple and ultimately the secret to a great Lambrusco is one that produces a great head of foam when you pour it, just like a great beer.  Selections will unfortunately be limited on your local shelves unless you live in an area that has a great wine shop.  If you live on the east coast you will have more choices better selections. Wherever you have a concentration of die-hard Italians like me that enjoy Lambrusco retailers will show this sparkling gem from Italy some love.More and more you will find Lambrusco lovers who are so incredibly passionate about this frizzante wine from the Emilia-Romagna region in the heart of Italy that you just have to give it a try.The Emilia-Romagna region is located between two of my favorite areas in Italy. Parma which is home to some of my favorite raw cow’s milk cheese Parmigiano-Reggiano, yet another wonder of the world I cannot live without.  On the other side of Emilia is probably one of the most iconic areas of Italy, Modena, and the birth place of Ferrari exotic sports cars.Italian winemakers produce a large range of Lambrusco wines.  If you shop at a nice specialty shop and they take their wine program seriously it is somewhat safe to assume they have chosen a good selection of wines for you to purchase.  The best Lambrusco’s are going to be dry and made in a frizzante style.  There are three colors of fizzy Lambruscos: white (bianco), rose (rosato) and the classic red (rosso) ranging from sweet to bone dry.Prosecco is another Italian favorite that is mainly produced as a sparkling wine in either the fully sparkling (spumante) or lightly sparkling (frizzante, gentile) styles.  Proseccos are labeled “brut”, “extra dry”, or “dry”, with the brut being the driest.  Ask you wine steward of the store you shop in for the driest Lambrusco in a frizzante style that they offer for sale.Lambrusco is made using the Charmat method rather than the Champagne method, the French method of making sparkling wine.  The Charmat method is a second fermentation in pressurized tanks rather than in individual bottles.  The shorter, tank fermentation is preferable for Lambrusco because it preserves the freshness and the flavor of the grapes.Unlike Champagne, Lambrusco does not ferment in the bottle consequently the wine goes off or gets old quickly and should be drunk as young as possible, preferably within one year. What I love about Old World European wine is that they are a function of necessity.  The wines in each area are made to work with, match, or pair with the foods that are grown and raised in the region or area.  Lambrusco is no different and in the Emilia-Romagna region their food tends to be rich, salty and that is why Lambrusco works so well with the indigenous foods of the area.Lambrusco wine is lively and bright with fruit, balanced out with naturally high acidity which pair perfectly with the rich salty food dishes from this area.  Lambrusco like all Old World style wines are not overdone, featuring lower percentage of alcohol which is also conducive to being a great wine to pair with food. The really terrific thing to note about Lambrusco is that you will be hard pressed to ever find one more expensive than $20.00 and many are $8.00-$10.00.  Wow that works in this economy for my pocket-book.Many bottles will list the Lambrusco grape variety from which it has been produced.  I’m not going to bore you with the 13-17 different Lambrusco grape varietals because there are only a handful you need to know.  Here is the short list; The most commonly found clones are the Grasparossa, Maestri, Marani, Monstericco, Salamino and Sorbara.  The rabid Lambrusco lovers, they love the Sobara version but any of these are ones that you want.  If you want to dig in a little deeper here is a link from my friends in Italy and their site which is solely devoted to Lambrusco; http://www.lambruscoday.org/facts-or-fiction.htmlHere’s what you should expect from a good Lambrusco; fresh, fruity, dry, tannic, nice acid, beautiful fruity nose, frothy, nutty, grapy, jammy, fun, and refreshing.  All this and it’s inexpensive too, really what more could you want?  This is a great wine to try that I whole heartedly recommend with all of my love and passion.  “Mikey likes it”, remember Mikey on TV?  I do if I had a penny for every time I’ve heard this in my life I’d be a wealthy man driving the Ferrari and drinking my dry frizzante Lambrusco on my way to get my fresh sliced hunk of Parmigiano-Reggiano to have with my Lambrusco. This particular Lambrusco is a fantastic example of just how special Lambrusco can be. The Cleto Chiarli E Figli is made from Grasparossa and Sorbara grapes resulting in an intense red Lambrusco with a delightful fruity bouquet.  This Lambrusco is produced in the heart of the best Sorbara Lambrusco region. My recommendation for the perfect pairing; if you haven’t had the pleasure of Lambrusco and pizza get on the phone now and order the pizza.  This Italian Lambrusco and pizza, well you will think you have died and gone to heaven.  Enough said…Visit www.WineGuyMike.com to learn more, please subscribe to my blog an newsletter while visiting my site so you get my weekly updates. From my table to yours,
