It's Monday and Lauretta has as her guest, Johnny Bertucci as they discuss the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement. Johnny Bertucci is the Chairman of the Board of Ark & Dove which is a global center for the information, promotion and missions in the power of the Holy Spirit. Johnny chats briefly about his background in the faith and how he came to be involved with Ark & the Dove and all he is doing. They discuss the Charismatic Renewal and their mission. They draw attention to Charis, the initiative of Pope Francis to unite the “family” focused on the Holy Spirit and the Renewal. Then Lauretta discusses the letter writing campaign regarding the Holy Spirit, to get letters to Pope Leo XIV as Saint Elena Guerra did so many years ago to then Pope Leo XIII. They relate the story of Johhny actually making contact with Pope Leo XIV and delivering the letters and Pixies to one of his Cardinals in Rome, it was a truly exciting moment. They chat about others devoted in the cause as well as events both historical and current on the importance of Pentecost. Lauretta and Johnny encourage everyone to get fired up with the Holy Spirit. For greater information on The Ark and the Dove please visit their website. The daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released her debut album. ‘Be Sweet To Me' is the first album from Violet Grohl, with a sound reminiscent of 1990s alternative rock. Though it's primarily rock, the eleven tracks do feature elements of heavy metal, folk, and jazz, Grohl citing the Breeders, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Soundgarden, and Cocteau Twins as her primary influences. Chris Schulz joined Jack Tame to share his thoughts on the album. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Song That Changed My Life is a segment that gives a chance for musicians and artists to tell us about the song that made them who they are today. This week, we talked to Joey Santiago, guitarist for the Pixies. Third Stone from the Sun by Jimi Hendrix helped him understand the guitar in a way he had never thought of before. Pixies will be heading on the road this summer.

Here Comes Your Man。Pixies - Here Comes Your ManPaolo Conte - Sotto le Stelle del JazzPixies - Mr. GrievesREM - 7 Chinese BrothersEugène Goossens - Variations on a Chinese Theme, Op. 1 Var. 1 AllegroPixies - DebaserPixies - Where Is My MindPixies - Dig For FireFrank Black & The Catholics - The Man Who Was Too LoudThe Modern Lovers - RoadrunnerThe Modern Lovers - Girlfriend
Playlist:FONTAINES D.C. - Boys in the BetterlandWUNDERHORSE - RainALCALÁ NORTE - Los llamados pitagóricos- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -[Diez canciones nuevas que tienes que escuchar esta semana]OLIVIA RODRIGO - the cureCHARLI XCX - SS26THE LAZY EYES - How Does It FeelTo Be In Love?LEVITANTS - SeñalesAMARAL - No quiero más canciones tristesNOTHING BUT THIEVES - EvolutionMUSE - HexagonsTHE WARNING - EgoECCA VANDAL - BleachBLONDSHELL - Heart Has To Work So Hard- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -TWIN PEAKS - Back DoorTWIN PEAKS - Making BreakfastFINN WOLFHARD - I'll Let You FinishBLEACHERS - Take You Out TonightBRIAN FALLON - Not Bad for New JerseyBRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - We Take Care of Our OwnELASTICA - ConnectionSUEDE - TrashPULP - Common PeopleRAYE - Where Is My Husband!SABRINA CARPENTER - Espresso (Mark Ronson x FNZ Working Late Remix)MARK RONSON - Ooh Wee (feat. For over 50 years, Saturday Night Live has been one of the most Important shows for rock music in the history of the nascent television medium. While, arguably, the most famous moment in the show's history (and Tony's favorite?) is RHCP's multi-key 1992 version of “Under The Bridge”, there have been others. (Musical Guest The Ting Tings ripping up a photo of Colonel Sanders comes to mind.) Fortunately, just in time for NBC's never more relevant, May sweeps season finale of SNL, they pulled in the big guns: RHCP! Oh s**t, Frusciante and Kiedis (LLC) are busy? Maybe (checks notes) Chad Smith is free? Might as well bring in noted Chad Smith lookalike Will Ferrel (“Elf”, Capitol One) to teach Chad how to host the show! Everyone knows Chad Smith's best friend is Paul McCartney. So Chad called Sir Paul to see if he'd learn the bass part for the AI generated RHCP songs “Funky California Space Cadet” and “Santa Monica Ding-Dong”, as onetime Macca drummer Chris Whitten beat Flea's ass in Hamburg. Where you ask? Why, under the bridge. When asked for comment, Flea replied, I don't ever wanna feel, like when Chris Whitten kicked my ass.” Later that week, as longtime Macca drummer Abe Laboriel JR was (Alonzo) mourning young mister Christopher's legal predicament and unable to travel, Chad Smith had an idea. He could play in Paul's band! On SNL! The very talented singer songwriter Ingrid Michaelson can even sing back-up, and perhaps even “Cook Of The House”! And Paul could completely ignore any lame Beatles music during the live, 90 minute broadcast, because nobody wants to hear that junk! (#Motorcars #Handlebars) Are you still with us? Da f is wrong with you? You already know Tony & T.J. will talk Macca's historic SNL performance and also hit you up with such mind benders as:

Kane and “dreampop”; The Smiths; Throwing Muses; Pixies; Dinosaur Jr; slackers and dole culture in the 80s; music journalism in the 80s; Sonic Youth and Daydream Nation; the popularity of MBV today and why shoegaze has survived. This week's Mixtape Rewind takes us back to season 2 when Matt and Sam put together a mix centered around songs that ask questions. We kick off with The Who asking the most direct opener imaginable, then slide into Third Eye Blind heartbreak, Snoop Dogg identity, and a newer Snoop cut that feels like confidence distilled. Along the way we hit War's endlessly singable “Why Can't We Be Friends,” A Tribe Called Quest proving some songs never age, and Joe Jackson's sharp little spiral of “Is She Really Going Out With Him.” The questions get bigger and weirder from there, with Pixies capturing that drifting, upside-down feeling that somehow still fits modern life. The back half turns reflective without losing the fun. We talk about how arrangement can change meaning in “What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love, And Understanding,” why “What's My Age Again” lands harder the older you get, and how the Bee Gees remind everyone they're more than disco. We close with Michael Jackson's “Will You Be There,” plus a heavy dose of 90s soundtrack nostalgia and the memories that come packaged with the music. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5oIgRs82dIJ9EURkgtkweB?si=e0e1135f2a224bf0Who Are You? by The WhoHow's It Going To Be? by Third Eye BlindWho Am I? by Snoop DoggWhat U Talkin' Bout? by Snoop DoggWhy Can't We Be Friends? by WarCan I Kick It? by A Tribe Called QuestIs She Really Going Out With Him? by Joe JacksonWhere Is My Mind? by Pixies(What's So Funny ‘Bout) Peace Love and Understanding? by Elvis Costello & The AttractionsWhat's My Age Again? by blink-182How Deep Is Your Love? by Bee GeesWill You Be There? by Michael JacksonGo to My.SuperAwesomeMix.com and start using our new app on any device - mobile or laptop. On The Scent Podcast Season 7, Episode 36: Classic Scents Remixed & ReinventedChanel N°5 Eau de ToiletteHoused in a redesigned, minimalist (label-free) bottle inspired by the original 1924 silhouette, the classic scent profile is absolutely there (bubbly aldehydes, light florals) but with a modern, more casually dressed feeling. Lighter, more intimate, but with a grounding depth beyond the beloved soapy floralcy, Chanel describes it as: ‘A woody abstract floral fragrance that is powerful and textured – an invitation to discover N°5 in a new light.'Chanel N°5 L'EAU Eau de Toilette‘Less abstract than its forebears, the composition of N°5 L'EAU radiates citrus like sun-drenched honey. Top notes of lemon, mandarin and orange soar skyward with the aldehydes. Like a second wind, you can hear the rustle of flowers. Rose melds with airy jasmine and a new fraction of ylang-ylang, more modern than ever.Behind this floral whirlwind, vetiver and cedar impart a novel dynamism, softened by white musks notes. Never has Nº5 been so natural. So fresh.'Chanel N°5 EAU PREMIÈRE‘A floral, luminous and airy interpretation of N°5. The voluptuousness of Ylang-Ylang from the Comoros blends into the harmonious and delicate facets of May Rose and Jasmine. Aldehydes grant it a unique presence, and the smooth touch of Vanilla and musky notes create an incredibly feminine trail.'Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau de ParfumThe quintessential sun-kissed, tropical blend now offers a more intense hit of sunset in a scent, via creamy coconut, tiare flower, warm amber, and vanilla. They say: ‘More intense. More glow. The unmistakable magic of notes of tiare flower and coconut, paired with notes of amber, sandalwood and vanilla, made even richer.'AERIN Mediterranean Honeysuckle Soleil (Summer Edition)This limited-edition 2026 solar floral fragrance is inspired by sun-drenched Mediterranean beach holidays. It features notes of neroli, monoi flower, and coconut milk, offering a warmer, creamier, and more radiant twist on the original. Founder, Aerin Lauder, says: ‘Mediterranean Honeysuckle Soleil is a radiant twist on our signature fragrance. This limited-edition was inspired by memories of sun-drenched beach days I have spent on the Mediterranean with family and friends. The scent reminds me of warm sun-kissed skin after a day by the sea with its notes of monoi flower, neroli and coconut milk.'DS & Durga Debaser In BloomReimagining the original fig scent with a brighter, creamier profile this version features top notes of raspberry flower and white currant, a heart of white gardenia, a base of musk and the highly intriguing grape soda-like ‘cassette tape' accord. Fascinating and resolutely modern!Founder David Seth Moltz explains: ‘Debaser is a cult favorite D.S. & DURGA fume inspired by my preteen years hanging out with cool older kids. Music was the binding force of the group. I was introduced to many bands, but the Pixies reigned supreme. I remember getting Doolittle on cassette tape. Back then, tapes smelled distinctly of grapey-orange blossom due to a mysterious mixture of polyester, magnetics, and lubricants from which they were manufactured. You would go to your local record shop, get the latest tape, and skate home fast to listen. When you tore off the wrapping, that familiar aroma was like an unconscious precursor to new music.Playing with a perfume formula is like reworking a beloved song. New elements emerge, this version of Debaser renders beauty from the mundane. The nostalgic aroma of tapes amplified with choice fruit and flower notes. It wears easy and gives a perfect spring-to-summer vibration, not unlike the music that inspired it.'Petit Fracas"Play the game of love with Petit Fracas de Robert Piguet eau de parfum. The scent has an audacious air, inspired by our iconic Fracas. Petit is fresh, youthful and feminine, with a playful innocence. Flirtatious and charming, Petit Fracas opens with notes of fresh citrus and pear. At the heart of the scent is a foral with a vintage edge: tuberose and white flowers. Sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy, the base is underscored by the elegance of musk and sandalwood sprinkled with a touch of chocolate."Don't forget it's the brilliant Barnes Fragrance Fair coming up soon! On Saturday 16th May the fragrance lovers will be gathering far and wide (we know four On The Scent Podcast listeners flying in to attend from America this year!) to sniff their way through the best independent fragrance houses in the U.K. With more stalls than ever where you can meet the founders / perfumers, there's also a whole timetable of fascinating talks to attend…Why not grab the last tickets for ‘Scent, Style & Self-Expression: Exploring how men can show up with confidence' with an expert panel hosted by friend of the pod, Haydn Williams @yousmellgreatwhatisit. For April's episode we discuss our favourite songs of 1987, including a lot of goth, some sparkly pop, industrial, thrash metal, hip hop, indie, and even a bond theme. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - a-ha, Anthrax, Rick Astley, Big Black, Black, Butthole Surfers, The Cure, Dead Can Dance, Death, Def Leppard, Dinosaur Jr, Faith No More, Fleetwood Mac, Front Line Assembly, Guns N Roses, Lubricated Goat, Negativland, The Pastels, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Pixies, Pop Will Eat Itself, Prince, Public Enemy, R.E.M., Sisters Of Mercy, Skinny Puppy, The Smiths, U2, Suzanne Vega, & The Wedding Present.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7H6ir9yRUIOmg1hrAhKtwu?si=423f30e293904a4fFind our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Stephen Frears is not an habitual purveyor of the sort of cult cinema we usually cover on this show. But we do love our noir, and Frears does have two outstanding neo-noirs in his filmography, so why not knock them both off the list in one episode? Bryce joins us to discuss The Grifters (1990), along with Frears' earlier effort, The Hit (1984). This is noir with an emphasis on existential. And his Oscar-nominated Grifters may have been an establishment darling, but adapted by Donald Westlake from a Jim Thompson novel, it has a hell of a crime fiction pedigree, and goes to some incredibly dark places. We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for The Grifters by skipping ahead to the 1:30:59 mark, and for The Hit by skipping ahead to 2:29:02. Oakland, California's Lethal Limits is the solo project of Jeff Corso, a Bay Area punk lifer raised on coastal fog, cracked sidewalks, and the kind of East Bay shows that smelled like dust, sweat, and wet concrete. Based in Oakland and hailing from Half Moon Bay, Corso has spent decades inside the region's punk and hardcore underground. Elevate, his new EP out March 13, 2026, lands like a familiar jolt. Four songs. No filler. Loud, melodic, and wired with the same nervous energy that once spilled out of basements, skate ramps, and all-ages rooms up and down the 510. Lethal Limits lives where punk crunch meets power pop clarity. The songs hit fast but linger, built on hooks that feel learned the hard way. There's a strong 90s backbone running through Elevate, the kind that recalls flyer-stapled lampposts, Gilman Street matinees, and the melodic punch of bands like Hüsker Dü and The Pixies without drifting into revival territory. Corso writes like someone who came up when melody mattered just as much as volume, and when songs had to survive blown PAs and half-attentive rooms. Arriving nearly four years after Lethal Limits' self-titled debut, a roughshod, self-produced full-length that quietly turned heads, Elevate shows a project sharpening its instincts. The edges are still intact, but new shades creep in. There's flashes of Thin Lizzy-style guitar swagger, heavier 90s grunge weight, and a thicker low end, all while keeping the choruses front and center. It sounds like the natural evolution of someone who grew up on punk, skate videos, and college radio, then kept writing long after the scene changed. Recorded between February and April 2025 by Corso at Vam Vam Studios in Oakland, Elevate was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden, giving the songs clarity without sanding off their grit. Corso handles nearly everything himself, guitars, bass, vocals, keys, tambourine, while drums from Aesop Dekker (Hickey, Ludicra, Agalloch) add weight and precision beneath the hooks. The result feels immediate and human, like a band playing live in a room, not chasing perfection but locking into feel. Ronnie Barnett was a rock journalist in Houston when he met Kim Shattuck, then bassist for the Los Angeles band the Pandoras, and their fates intertwined. Soon Barnett was living in L.A. and playing bass in the Muffs, Shattuck's new pop-punk band in which she played guitar and applied her impassioned vocals to her tight, tuneful songs. The band had a strong three-album run with Warner Bros., though its most famous song became its punked-up cover of Kim Wilde's “Kids in America” that played over the opening credits of 1995's Clueless yet never was released as a single. Amid more acclaimed albums, Shattuck took a brief detour as the Pixies' bassist. Sixteen days before the October 2019 release of the Muffs' final studio album, No Holiday, Shattuck died at age 56 from complications of ALS, news that shocked and devastated the many who loved her and her music. Barnett takes us through the thrills and heartbreak of his life with Shattuck and the Muffs—and offers some record-collecting notes because he's that kind of guy. (Photo by Tommi Cahill)
In which The Curmudgeons set the dial back to 1988, when grunge started to become a real thing with real buzz and found itself no longer contained to just Seattle. Mudhoney kicked ass and triumphed in the U.K. with the gargantuan single "Touch Me I'm Sick" and their awesomely heavy debut EP Superfuzz Bigmuff. Soundgarden released its full-length debut album, which, while badly produced, found the band slashing and burning through a number of supremely intense rockers. And Screaming Trees served up a super-loud but super-cool take on 1960s psychedelic garage rock. Meanwhile, non-Seattle bands like Sonic Youth, Pixies and Dinosaur Jr. released classic hard rock albums that would influence a certain talented little guy from Aberdeen, Wa., a few years later. Don and Dude crash headfirst into 1989's alternative basements and hip hop boomboxes, where quiet loud guitar nightmares share airspace with sample stacked punchline barrages and label side eye. One of us dives into a twisted surf rock carnival that helped teach the 90s how to go loud quiet loud, while the other rides a brainy, boom bap Def Jam debut packed with Beastie Boys disses, Hammer threats, and the first appearance of a future underground legend. The Albums Pixies – Doolittle (1989) Pixies turn their Boston art punk chaos into a tightly wound alt rock statement, mixing sugar sweet hooks, violent surrealism, and that now classic quiet loud dynamic. "Debaser," "Monkey Gone to Heaven," and "Wave of Mutilation" spin eyeball slicing cinema, environmental dread, and surf rock murder suicide into songs that feel like pop songs and panic attacks at the same time. 3rd Bass – The Cactus Al/Bum (1989) MC Serch, Prime Minister Pete Nice, and DJ Richie Rich plant a Def Jam flag with dense golden era beats and back and forth verses that blend jokes, battle bars, and real talk about New York and hip hop credibility. From "Sons of 3rd Bass" and its anti Beastie mission statement to "The Gas Face" and "Steppin to the A M," the record plays like a long, funny, aggressive brief on who gets to be taken seriously in rap.Diggin' Albums Zach Bryan – With Heaven on Top (2026) Raw, heart on sleeve Americana and country stories about love, loss, and faith, delivered over rough hewn acoustic strums and fuller band swells. Lenny Kravitz – Let Love Rule (1989) A retro soaked debut that welds late 60s and early 70s rock and soul influences into warm analog grooves and idealistic love and unity anthems. GUM – Blue Gum Way (2026) Australian multi instrumentalist Jay Watson drifts through jazzy psych pop vignettes, each track a little mood world of woozy synths and warped guitars. Katherine Priddy – These Frightening Machines (2026) Intricate modern folk songwriting about technology, anxiety, and everyday life, wrapped in fingerpicked guitar, immersive atmosphere, and literary minded lyrics.Follow & Support Follow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing.“Carpe diem. Andrea Foley is the definition of “don't put me in one box.” In this episode, she breaks down how she's built a stacked portfolio of businesses—from kids resale and retail, to real estate, to the car wash world—while keeping her eye on the long game: legacy. This conversation goes way beyond “here's what I do.” Andrea gets real about the pressure small business owners are under right now, how her consulting background shaped the way she thinks about growth and decision-making, and why financial planning isn't optional if you want to stay in the game. You'll also hear practical investing/operator talk: why house hacking is still one of the cleanest on-ramps for new investors, how underwriting a car wash deal is basically the same discipline as underwriting real estate, and why city regulations can quietly torch your budget if you don't plan for surprises. They wrap with real-life lessons that come from taking hits, rebuilding, and trying to leave something behind that matters—plus a straightforward parenting philosophy centered on responsibility and work ethic.Connect with Andrea Foley:Pirates & Pixies: piratesandpixiesomaha.comUndercover Kitchen: undercoverkitchenomaha.com Koala Wash: koalawashusa.com If you got value from this episode, share it with a friend who's building a business (or about to learn some lessons the hard way). The songs everyone knows from Only By The Night aren't the whole story. We set aside the monster singles and go searching for the cuts that turned a big rock record into a lasting companion—tracks with space to breathe, edges that scrape, and melodies that stick for reasons other than radio. From the haunted hush of Closer to the grit and drive of Crawl, we unpack why these performances work and how the band's family chemistry locks the groove into place. We trace the band's journey—early buzz overseas, the 2008 breakout, and the Grammys that followed—then zoom in on the parts often missed: Angelo Petraglia's production choices, the interplay of staccato rhythm and stretched vocals, and the fingerprints of influences like Pixies, Thin Lizzy, and the Beach Boys. Manhattan and Revelry get their due as mood pieces that ride the line between indie cool and heart-on-sleeve confessional, while Cold Desert closes the loop with country-tinged glow and a late-night confession that lingers long after the last chord. Our dark horse favorite, Be Somebody, becomes the centerpiece: a soaring chorus, a bassline that sings, and an arrangement that opens wider with each pass. It's the sound of a band stepping onto a bigger stage without losing its scruff or soul. If you've only met this album through Sex On Fire and Use Somebody, consider this your invitation to hear the rest with fresh ears. Hit play, tell us your top three non-hits, and if this breakdown made you re-listen, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a quick review to help others find the show.Send us a textSupport the show

By running Boston's Fort Apache studio with partner Sean Slade, Paul positioned himself at the forefront of the underground, indie sound that was suddenly above ground. His resume includes all time classics like Radiohead's Pablo Honey (featuring "Creep") and Hole's Live Through This, but also well-respected benchmarks by Buffalo Tom, Morphine, Pixies, Uncle Tupelo, Dinosaur Jr., and the Lemonheads. There are even fascinating outliers like Joe Jackson and Warren Zevon. We get into all of this and a ton more. He's still at it today too. Paul helped shape the sound of that pivotal time in rock history. We're lucky to hear from him! Paul Q. Kolderie | Music Producer, Engineer and Mixer The Hustle Podcast | creating podcasts | Patreon
